Subject: Major Seismic Event Shakes Ute Nation

San Juan County,
Ute Nation

A major seismic event shook the Abajo Mountains in San Juan County of the Ute Nation. Approximately 10 miles west of Montecello, near the Pueblo Border on Highway UTE-191, Abajo Peak blew its top in a sudden, eruption. A pyroclastic flow flowed down the mountain side and completely engulfed the towns of Blanding and Indian Hat.

This event had the tragic side effect of entirely destroying the White Mesa Anglo Reservation, located in that area. Casualties are expected to be light, given the low population of that remote reservation.

More news as it develops.
