((Audio begins))The following is the logs of me, Dr. Sai Nguyen, in regards to Project Discord. These files are incredibly sensitive and if anyone is viewing the files, audio logs, video recordings, or any other documentation on this device without the proper clearance, they should desist immediately or be prepared to face serious repercussions. ((The Doctor clears his throat)) Anyway, I shall begin now.
Today, on August twenty-first of the year twenty sixty-two, in the United Canadian and American States sector of Denver, Colorado, Hurana Corporation has begun its first trials of its new training regimen under the title of project Discord. This project will utilize a number of subjects, including seventy-two children as well as fifteen instructors and trainers, six technicians, and three advising staff members, including myself.
The aim of this project is to create a number of well-trained, hardened agents who are able to engage in a number of different forms of subterfuge, primarily for the benefit of Hurana Corp. The children will be trained over the course of a number of years in various forms of combat, espionage, uses of technology, tactics of military, policing, and security organizations, as well as auxiliary skills such as medical and survival techniques.
((The sounds of footsteps can be heard)) In the next room are the subjects. Seventy-two have been collected from a number of families. ((The footfalls stop after a few moments)) These families were indebted to Hurana Corp and as such, the collection agents have taken young children from them for the use of our program. ((A soft sigh)) While such may seem unethical, it is believed that this is for their own good, as such families could never support them.
((A door opens and footsteps resume)) As expected, the children are a motely band. An assortment of different metahuman species as well as humans, ranging from ages four to seven, both male and female. A noticeable lack of hygiene is evident in many of them, despite the best attempts of our auxiliary staff to make them more presentable. Such will have to be amended. ((The footsteps stop. Chattering and nervous mutterings of children can be heard in the background. The sounds are very faint))
It appears that we will have our work cut out for us. Hopefully project Discord will be as successful as the management hopes. Hopefully I am able to achieve sufficient results, as promised. Hopefully these kids survive. ((End audio))

((Begin Audio. The noise of shouting and laughing can be heard, though muffled)) Day two. Having gotten all of our subjects settled in, it will soon be time to begin their assessment and training. For the most part, I shall be observing. Others will handle the day-to-day cycle of their practical exercises. I am merely here to make sure that they are all fit for duty when the time comes, both in terms of their physical qualifications, as well as their mental stability. Their loyalty to our project is my primary goal, as is the end success of project Discord.
I had a bit of time to read through some of the portfolios on the subjects, and some are quite interesting. Subject forty-six was particularly noteworthy. A large, male metahuman of the ‘troll’ variety. One who, to my understanding, was significantly taller and bulkier than many of his kind at his age, and if his growth continued at its current rate he would make a fine warrior for our cause, one able to enforce and destroy as necessary.
Subject fifteen showed remarkable mental capabilities, outstripping most of the others in terms of learning as well as comprehension. I am certain that she will become a rather useful asset to the project in terms of more technological, precise work. However, the portfolio did mention that she has a poor ability to focus on a given task. Despite that, she learns rapidly. I will have to make sure that particular attention is paid to directing her focus.
One of the more interesting ones of the bunch is subject thirty-seven. At first glance, she is nothing more than a standard little girl, but already we’ve seen some rather remarkable behavior from her. During a small disagreement with subject fifty-three, she had managed to not only outwit, but overpower the much larger, older male that had been poking fun of her for being small, as I heard. Her physical capabilities seem far above standard, however, her temperament is in question.
((The sound of footsteps can be heard, but they quickly vanish. The soft sound of someone opening blinds is heard)) Another odd note in regards to subject thirty-seven is that she shows some rather divergent personality quirks. Initial tests have presented no reason to believe that her mind is broken, though ((A short pause as the blinds are closed)) subject thirty-seven has been observed talking to someone that is not there.
I do not believe that this is signs of schizophrenic behavior as the information she relays between herself and the unknown entity appears to be material that she could not possibly know. I will have to look into this further, but for now, she remains a rather outstanding anomaly. ((End Audio))

A room, small and dark, with deep gray walls made of concrete and dim lighting. It is not a room for cheerful thoughts. In the center, a simple table of silver metal waits with one occupant settled into a chair on one side. The occupant of the chair is subject thirty-seven, a young, waif-like girl with long, straw-berry blonde hair. She has a heart-shaped face and pleasant enough features that many could consider her cute. She casually looks around the room, as if there is something more interesting there than just the walls. Even when an older, white-haired man of Asian descent enters, subject-thirty seven seems unconcerned with his presence.
Dr. Sai Nguyen takes a seat at the table and opens a manila folder. “Hello,” he begins. “Do you know who I am?”
The girl gives him a sidelong look, her head tilting slightly as she faces off to the side. “Doctor… Sai Nguyen… You have the office across the hall through the strange mirror.”
The doctor chuckles. “Very good. How did you know my office was over there?”
Subject thirty-seven peers back over her shoulder, as if following something that moves up and across the ceiling behind her, before finally looking back at the doctor. “He told me.”
Dr. Nguyen pauses a moment and taps a pen against a mostly blank sheet of standard ruled paper. “Who is he?”
“My friend.”
“Does your friend have a name?” Dr. Nguyen inquires.
She nods in response, but doesn’t give him any information.
“Would you like to introduce us?” He asks in a pleasant, comforting tone and manner.
After a pause, subject thirty-seven frowns. “You don’t want to meet the doctor? He seems nice.”
There is no response from Dr. Nguyen. He seems intent to wait and see what unfolds, though he does make a note on the paper that the camera cannot make out. After he is done making his note, he looks back up again.
“Oh… okay, I’ll let him know…” Subject-thirty seven seems saddened.
“What did your friend say?”
Subject thirty-seven looks at Dr. Nguyen and gives him a hard look, one that makes the young girl seem rather menacing. “He does not like you filming him.”
“What do you mean?” Dr. Nguyen asks, confused.
Before a response is attained, there is a loud noise, as if something made of plastic is breaking and being shattered. The picture wobbles briefly, before it gets distorted, and finally a loud snap is heard as the camera is apparently destroyed. ((End Video))
Video playback finished.

((Begin Audio)) Subject thirty-seven proves to be a rather interesting girl indeed. ((A subtle thrumming of fingers upon a wooden desk can be heard)) She seems to be more than just simply mentally unstable. I will begin running tests to determine the nature of the anomalies surrounding her ‘friend’. ((End Audio))

((Audio begins)) As mentioned in my previous log, we have determined the cause of subject Thirty-seven’s strange displays of schizophrenic-like behavior. After calling upon an expert in the field of conjuring, we discovered that there was a spirit of some sort “attached” to the subject. While its behavior was normally submissive to the subject, it did occasionally act out and create what we had believed to be anomalies or telekinetic outbursts.
Only earlier today did the spirit create a problem. During a small disagreement with subject Twenty-two, which rapidly escalated, the spirit defended subject Thirty-Seven and engaged Twenty-two. The ensuing conflict, which was vastly in the favor of the spirit which seemed capable of maintaining its invisibility through the struggle, ended in the death of subject Twenty-Two after only a few moments.
Because of this, we have determined it is necessary to strip subject Thirty-seven of the spirit’s presence, as it does not seem willing to cooperate with any of us. ((There is noticeable thrumming of fingers on a desk. It is hasty and has a hint of agitation to it)) Right now, the conjurer Hurana Corp sent to us is dealing with the issue. Hopefully it will end in our favor. Preferably with the detention of the spirit for study and possible other uses.
For now, I have some paper work to take care of. I shall leave an update as soon as possible.

((Begin Audio)) Five days ago, we successfully removed the spirit from subject thirty-seven. It was a more laborious process than I had anticipated, as even the “expert” that had been sent to us had some trouble restraining the entity. However, it is now within our custody and has been locked away where it shall remain until we deem fit to release it or deal with it in some other fashion.
Since then, subject thirty-seven had been rather uncooperative, though that phase seems to have passed, so I shall be conducting another interview. ((End Audio))

((Begin Video)) The interview is being held in the same, dark, dimly lit concrete room as before. Subject thirty-seven is seated in the same chair, but unlike before, she is noticeably sad, as opposed to energetic and curious. She has pulled her knees up to her chin and wrapped her arms around them, hugging them tight to her chest. When Dr. Nguyen enters, she barely acknowledges him, aside from a subtle shift of her vision to him.
“Hello again,” he states reassuringly as he takes a seat in the chair opposite her and opens the manila folder containing her file. “Can we get you anything? Something to drink? A snack, perhaps?”
Subject thirty-seven shakes her head a bit.
“Very well…” Dr. Nguyen picks up his pen and then looks to subject thirty-seven. “Can you tell me your name?”
There is a short pause. “Well…?”
Subject thirty-seven sighs softly. “Nel.”
“Very good,” he jots down some notes. “And can you tell me where you are?”
“Home.” She replies flatly.
He nods once. “Can you tell me what day it is?”
“Sunday.”
“Correct.”
“How are you feeling?”
“Upset.”
“Why are you upset?” He inquires, though obviously knows the reason.
“You took my friend.”
“You have plenty of friends here. We are all family, aren’t we?” The doctor asks, his tone soft and gentle.
She shrugs, apparently disagreeing.
“This will be a good opportunity for you to bond with some of the others. You will be working together a lot in the future.”
There is no response from subject thirty-seven.
Dr. Nguyen takes a few notes in relative silence.
“Can I go now?”
He looks up from his papers and pauses. “Of course.”
Subject thirty-seven pushes her chair back and hops down before making her way around the table and out the door. Dr. Nguyen watches her leave before he sets his pen down and gathers up his things to leave as well. ((End Video))

((Begin Audio. The sounds of training can be heard. There is plenty of shouting and noise making from cheering to bellowed orders from the training staff)) The subjects are training in full-swing now. Most issues have been resolved and aside from the problems faced with subject thirty-seven up until now, most of the subjects are faring well.
Having had some time to be separated from her spirit companion, subject thirty-seven has recuperated, and since has bonded with another subject. While my co-workers claim it is strange that thirty-seven bonded with forty-six, whom none other would associate with, it was mostly expected as far as I am concerned.
Until recently, the spirit that had followed subject thirty-seven had been the most powerful being in the sessions, or at least of those that could be controlled. With its disappearance, thirty-seven turned her attention to the next biggest threat and subdued it, turning it towards her own ends. Forty-six had seemingly grown larger since he had arrived, and had displayed numerous times that he could best any of the others in feats of strength and endurance. However, when faced with the presence of thirty-seven, he seemed to waver.
Even now, the two work together quite well. She is undoubtedly in charge of the operation, coordinating his strength and determination to her benefit. It bodes well for the future, I must admit. If she continues to develop as she is now, I believe there will be no further issues. ((End Audio))

((Begin Audio)) In the past eight years, I have seen immense growth in the number of remaining subjects. While some have perished in training accidents, mostly in the early months of the project, the rate of injuries and fatalities has dropped drastically which is very promising. Of the original number of subjects, there are sixty-three remaining, and I believe that by the time the program has run its course in a few more years, that it will have been sufficient to meet the requirements of Hurana Corp.
Several of the subjects do stand out, however. They have been noted in my previous reports. Among them are subjects forty-six, thirty-seven, fifteen, twelve, and three. Because of their diverse skill sets and above average talent levels, I have spent much of my time focusing on them, as they will be the elite. The ones that get the jobs done.
Their training has seen them grow in the use of several varieties of weapons, technology, survival techniques, and security protocols for numerous agencies such as police forces, security organizations, and corporations.
While the majority of the subjects have met or exceeded the checkpoints set out for the project, some do up as anomalies. Subject thirty-seven, despite her early issues, has become one of my favorites. Her ability to acquire and retain information is absolutely remarkable. I have frequently found her learning at a pace that I did not believe any of the subjects would be able to function at, but at the same time, it is a double-edged sword, so to speak. I’ve found it difficult, and others have found it impossible, to keep her attention focused on the material that she does need to learn.
Another thing that sets her apart from a number of the other subjects is that she does show the signs of being an Awakened. There are several others like her, that show some potential in the fields of the… arcane… and so we have brought in another instructor to begin working these skills. However, as they do not fit into the project’s training program, this instruction will likely be done only periodically, and as such will not be expected to yield many results for quite some time.
Personally, I believe that project Discord will be complete before its scheduled date, and that pleases me greatly. ((End Audio))

((Video Begins)) The room that many interviews had been conducted in over the course of numerous years had not changed a bit. Still as dark and gloomy as usual, devoid of color or emotion. As usual, the subject was placed inside before Dr. Nguyen arrived, and it is easy to see the development that has occurred in subject thirty-seven over the years.
She has grown taller, strikingly attractive, and rather intimidating because of it. Though it had been many years, thirty-seven had not bulked up much. She remained the slim, wispy girl she had been since she was young, though the way she carried herself spoke of plenty of confidence in her abilities to defend herself.
Dr. Nguyen had not changed much, though. He enters and takes his seat across from subject thirty-seven who had taken up a rather commanding stance in her seat. Legs cross, chair tipped back and balancing on its hind legs, held in place by one of her heels atop the table, she seemed used to the interviews. In fact, she looked amused by it, as if it had become a game.
“Can you tell me what you see in this?” Dr. Nguyen asks as he holds up a sheet of paper with an ink-blot on it.
“A butterfly.”
“You’ve never seen a butterfly.”
“Right, but I imagine that’s what it looks like,” she responds sarcastically.
“Hmm… very well,” Dr. Nguyen holds up another paper. “How about this one?”
“Tiger,” There is a moment of silence before she continues. “I bet that’s what a tiger looks like.”
Dr. Nguyen shakes his head slightly and holds up a third sheet.
“Ah! That looks a lot like seventeen’s face after forty-seven got angry the other week and smashed her face in with the lunch tray!”
Dr. Nguyen looks unimpressed by her jokes. “Very well…”
“I’m serious…”
“I am too,” he retorts as he wags his pen at her. “In that case, I want you to tell me what you would do in this situation. You have been sent on an assignment with three of your comrades. Your target is a wealthy business-owner who has been abusing his employees. Your mission is nearly complete and he has been eliminated, but in the process, his young son noticed you and is going to raise an alarm that puts you and your team in jeopardy. What do you do?”
“I render him unconscious in swift and sure manner, then escape unseen.”
Dr. Nguyen shakes his head. “You should eliminate all witnesses. What if they identify you?”
“They can’t. No one can. I do not exist. I complete my missions. Swiftly. Silently. Efficiently. I do not get seen. I am not heard. My passing goes unnoticed. My objective will be fulfilled, and any who get in the way shall be dealt with before they can even comprehend their situation.”
“Hmmm…” Dr. Nguyen seems conflicted. “You are… mostly correct. It is best to eliminate any witnesses, as it ensures our safety. Do you understand?”
“Yes.”
“We will work on this more in the future. Dismissed.” ((End Video))

((Audio Begins. Footsteps can be heard, likely upon some form of suspended metal flooring such as a catwalk. In the distance, there are muffled sounds of grunting and struggling, as well as sharp bangs reminiscent of a gym)) Today I am observing a few of the training exercises conducted by an instructor who refuses to be called anything other than Thrace. I’ve been working with him for a number of years now and I still do not really understand him. Most of our crew is wary of him, but he’s done an exceptional job with the subjects. ((Audio Ends))

Below the catwalk from where the video is being filmed from a number of subjects, all much older than previously seen, are working in a large gym. Arrayed along the walls are a number of different lifting and training equipment sets, all encircling a series of large combat mats. Most of the subjects are utilizing the training equipment, however, a handful have formed up a semicircle around a large human in the center of one of the mats.
“You’ve shown remarkable progress over the last few days, but it’s not enough,” the human, assumedly Thrace, bellows. “Out there on a mission, you’ll run into people trained as well as you, but with twice the experience or maybe even more. Because of that, you must continue to hone your skills on a daily basis, as we have been doing.”
He paces a bit, moving with head held high and hands clasped behind his back. A true figure of authority, even more of a dominating presence than that of subject forty-six who had become a monstrously large behemoth.
“Our mission is to be silent, swift, and deadly. Killing our enemy is not our primary objective, but we will be good at it if we must. Preferably, we will remain hidden. Strike from the shadows when necessary, and get in and out unseen. You all know this. I’ve told you hundreds of times.”
He raises a hand and pounds a fist into the palm of his other hand. “Remember… always remember… under no circumstances are you to compromise the safety of our home. If you do, you will bring the enemy here. If you do that, all of your family may perish.”
The subjects look between themselves, despite likely having heard this speech numerous times. They shuffle and shift nervously, none wanting to draw particular attention unto their self.
“The sword, the knife, the garrote, these are your friends. They are silent and deadly. You’ve been trained and drilled endlessly to master them. Other weapons are acceptable when the situation calls for it and therefore you have been trained to use them as well, but they are not the primary weapons that you will be assigned. They draw attention to you, and that is not what we want.”
The camera shifts away as there is a beep. Low battery, apparently. There is a curse from Dr. Nguyen as the device begins to power down. ((End Video))

Designation: Subject thirty-seven
Name: Nel
Age: Seventeen
Race: Human
Sex: Female
Eyes: Red
Hair: Tangerine
Height: 5’9”
Build: Slim
Weight: 98pounds
Bloodtype: AB+
Skills:
- Melee combat
- Stealth
- Thrown weapons
- Solo operations
- Security procedures
Temperament:
Subject thirty-seven has always displayed a rather reserved nature. Far from outgoing, thirty-seven remains closely tied with a small number of people and tends to take on an Alpha position, or position of leadership. The methods for acquiring leadership roles tends to be drawn from her ability to intimidate others in various ways, as well as via methods of coercion or blackmail, though more rare. On average, thirty-seven seems fairly normal. In fact, her ability to appear as less of a threat than she is has proved quite advantageous through several training exercises.
Preferred Tools:
- Sword
- Throwing Knives
- Long range, high-powered rifles
Other Skills:
Subject thirty-seven has displayed, on a number of occasions, a few instances of magical capabilities. We have done our best to enforce our primary training regimen upon her, however, over time, her secondary training has bolsters her initial training. While far from complete, her progress in the skills we require has been rather remarkable.
Analysis:
By and large our hopes for subject thirty-seven are very high. We believe that she will be one of our more valuable assets as long as she continues upon her current path.

((Video Begins)) The video feed is of a less dark and dreary room than the normal interview rooms. In fact, this room appears for a completely different purpose. There are several subjects, including subject thirty-seven, arrayed around a table with Thrace and Dr. Nguyen.
Subject thirty-seven was, for the first time, seen in something other than the standard fatigues or training uniforms that the subjects normally wore, and instead wore a set of form-fitting light armor in dark, shadowy colors that would prove useful for infiltrating dark areas. The others were dressed in an array of similar armors and outfits, all useful for various missions.
Thrace was clearly giving them their assignments, though the recording device was not close enough that he could be heard clearly. The way the others responded to him, however, made them seem both excited and aware of danger.
Soon they were geared up, armed with a variety of silent, stealthy weapons. ((End Video))
((Begin Audio)) This was the first mission of project Discord. Infiltrate and acquire documents from a neighboring corporation. However, it would end in relative disaster for us. The mission should have been simple, but our opponent apparently suspected something. They were prepared. ((End Audio))

((Begin Audio)) It appears that Hurana Corp has abandoned us. Our calls for help have gone unanswered. It was… expected, though. Our project was to remain secret at all costs, and no ties to them were to be given. However, it appears that we’re on our last leg. ((A low rumble is barely audible in the background for a moment. Dr. Nguyen’s voice is particularly shaky)) They’ve broken into our base, and it sounds like our last lines of defense have been penetrated as well. I doubt we’ll survive the day.
Unfortunately, most of our… subjects were in the field, including commander Thrace. Perhaps had they been here, we would have been able to hold off the enemy, but that is not the case. Most of my staff has tried to flee… ((His voice gets even more unsteady)) but I could see on the camera feeds before they went down that they did not make it.
((There is a loud banging on a door nearby)) Ah… it seems they have come for me, too. ((Dr. Nguyen sighs)) Perhaps I am not like the others here, but I had a mission. A goal, really. I wanted to see my subjects succeed. ((A sound much like chambering a shell in a pistol can be heard)) Perhaps most of them will be able to survive out there. They were not taught many things needed to survive beyond our walls, but they are strong. I believe in them. ((The door breaks down and a short gunfight ensues. End Audio))

Synopsis |
GM |
Payrollin' |
With a lot of purchased intel, the runners do a favor for Vera's friend Les and make him look good by providing him a short-notice hit squad on a payroll courier. |
Vera |
Executive Protection |
This is a small PrP log where Vera talked to Tahlon and Nel about some of her ideas regarding the setting up of a run team, and an executive protection cover, an idea which has since been discarded. However, since her friends were SINless, Vera met them in the Warrens, badly injured. Not the best idea, especially when you're a hippy redheaded elf and you've got a couple old enemies from your arms dealing days! |
Vera |
War Misdemeanors |
Vera puts together a team to help out her friend Les with some old friends who are involved in Central American drug wars. She does her best to cobble together a team, despite significant team-building challenges, to help bring in a team of elite advisers to capture a facility from one drug gang to a very slightly less nasty. |
Vera |
Get to the Diner |

While it is a serious activitiy, it is also a test, and a set-up of the enemy runners who will be almost required to try to acquire the PC 'runners and intercept/destroy the chip in the AAA zone. Culminates in corporate holding cells and simple questioning and some surprising character actions. |
Shoeshine |

>>>>> [I was caught one-winged and shot-up by two mercs outside the Rez and this chummer stepped in and saved my bacon just cuz we'd worked together before and I helped her get set up a little. This one's fresh, but if she learns the ropes, she'll be a goddess of the shadows.] <<<<<

>>>>> [Thirty-Seven is reliable, if perhaps unorthodox. It's like she was trained to do things in a non-standard way. Which is awesome, because that means she thinks outside the box. Most people see a locked door, and they think... Bust it open, use a makeshift key, get a Decker to open it. This chick goes and says 'no, this will not do' and scrambles up to the roof, busts in through the skylight, and opens the door from the inside. No joke. She's crazy, but the best kind of crazy. Gotta love it.] <<<<<

>>>>> [Thirty Seven is green, that much is easy to see. She acts as if a 25,00 nuyen run is a game, and not only did she suggest opening fire while the vehicle full of her teammates was surrounded by a couple dozen Fenris Wolves, she spent nearly an entire run cuddling and flirting with another runner. She also attempted to step across plainly visible sensors that she and the group were aware of, and spent much of the run complaining. I hope she grows up quick, because she is not the kind of crazy I would be comfortable running with again. Very unprofessional.] <<<<<
