GM: Slinger
Players: Slinger (GM), Page (Johnson), Accelerate, Dane, Zoey, Air.
Synopsis: Page has his house all planned out. Unfortunately, it calls for a decent amount of radical iron — about 50 kilos worth. With a pretty significant street price. And more than he can afford the time to make in his shop. So he hires Slinger to put together a team to steal some from the only guy in town with enough of it: Topaz, a high-profile fixer and minor philanthropist in the FTZ. The group arrives, using a combination of magic, trickery, and matrix-style deceits, only to find out what Topaz has been using the iron for — he's constructed a golem! And even though Topaz isn't actually /there/ when all this goes down, the combination of his ally spirit (the (golem) and the elementals he sends, combined with his physical security, give the team a run for their money!

Part 1: The call
<Phone> There is a click as the call is answered on line 1.
(Directed into the phone) Slinger says, "Yo!"
<Phone> Page says, "I've got papers signed, delivered, and this time it should stick. Nice work. Up for some more?"
(Directed into the phone) Slinger says, "For you? Sure."
(Directed into the phone) Slinger says, "Should have some time. What's on your mind?"
<Phone> Page says, "Well, to start the construction, I'm going to need some special materials. I'd like to get those out of the way first, and my talismonger is completely out of stock."
(Directed into the phone) Slinger says, "I see. So you got the land, right? Got your permits and stuff? Or is the material goin' elsewhere?"
(Directed into the phone) Slinger hesitates. "Wait. How much material are we talking?" Maybe it's something small.
<Phone> Page hesitates for a couple of seconds, then says, "Fifty kilos of radical wrought iron."
Page pages: That's 100 grams per unit.
(Directed into the phone) Slinger says, "Slinger pauses. "Fifty… kilos.""
(Directed into the phone) Slinger says, "Radical. That's… 500 units."
<Phone> Page says, "That's correct."
(Directed into the phone) Slinger says, "That's worth a good 200K on the street. So where do we get this? And what're you willing to spend to acquire it?"
<Phone> Page says, "You'll probably need a team of 3 or 4. Call it 30k apiece. As for where to get it… there's only one person in the city who I can think of who would have that much on hand. Especially if the supply right now is as dry as it is."
(Directed into the phone) Slinger says, "I see. Whozzat? And why not just buy it from him? I /know/ there's a catch. Or we wouldn't be talkin'."
(Directed into the phone) Slinger says, "And… anything else you want us to grab while we're there? You know, to make it worth the trip?"
<Phone> Page says, "Totally up to you on that last part, I can tell you most of the good stuff he can magically track down. Bonded and such. Guy's name is Topaz on the street. He's one of the only enchanters dumb enough to live /inside/ the FTZ. No idea what he's doing with the stuff. Last I heard, he was trying to…" And Page actually chuckles at this. "Make a golem."
(Directed into the phone) Slinger smirks. "Really," the youth grins, stretches. "Right. Was just gonna ask about other construction materials you might need. Two hundred kay worth of stuff… you'll be paying 120 kay or so. Been tryin' to help you double your money, is all."
<Phone> Page says, "Well, if you can get more than that, I can find places in the substructure to put it. Just be careful, eh?"
(Directed into the phone) "Always, man. Always. When am I not careful?" he asks, as he lights up a cancer stick.
<Phone> Page says, "Ya, yah. See you soon, eh?"
Part 2: Meeting
Slinger knows Zoey, and contacted her for this job. And Zoey, it would seem, knows others. And Slinger also gave his friend Blindside a call… and notified Accelerate as well. Since deckers, he knows, never sleep. They just play different video games. So he's called a meeting, in the basement of the High Arcana. There's an Earth Elemental circle over there, as well. He even hooked up a camera and a display screen so Accelerate can be present — though it took about three tries to get everything to actually work, since Slinger and computers are not on speaking terms.
Finally, though, people hopefully start showing up, and Slinger already has a cancer stick burning. "Yo."
Blindside wanders on in, Bambi at his side. He pauses at the door, seeing Zoey… then he glances to Slinger.. then to Bambi… "Bambi, go wait in the car."
"But blindy! I can't protect you if I am in the car!"
"Slingers got my back, baby."

Air and Zoey are like, tight yo! So Air is here, yes! And he's smoking a cancer stick too, one of the rare few he gets when not spending time with the missus at home. He turns up in the basement of HA wearing his default black longcoat over casual with boots finsihing the look.
Slinger shoots Blindside a grin. "How's mah ride doin'?" he asks casually, before he drops down into a seat in the corner of the room — the area outside the Earth Elemental Summoning Circle. He already has an ashtray there, and offers it to other people. "Page has a job for me. You know he's tryin' to build a house, right?"
ZOOOOOOOEEYYYYYYY arrives uneventfully, and immediately upon seeing Bambi - and Blindside - her appearance darkens somewhat. She would develope an eye tick, perhaps.. then do her best to simply move into high arcana and lean against a wall and IGNORE the squat little man.. Air was here at least.. so if some sort of brawl broke out he would have her back. Good call on Bambi there, though.. She is happy to see her leave.
Zoey also was smoking a ciggy. Lotta smokers around here, smoking some fags. "Evenin'," she offers to the group at large, then resting on her part of the wall she half-lids her eyes and stays quite for the moment.
Dane decides not to shoot anyone, seriously, and he heads inside the yard and then to the basement where the earth circle is, being fairly quiet as he generally is before nodding to everyone he knows that has showed. Well, that was everybody, basically. Dane hangs out somewhere like a loner.
A bright light flashes on the viewscreen as Accelerate's matrix icon enters the host. As ever, his icon is that static man gig with the mucked up radio-esque voice. "Evening, everyone." he says.
In fact, looks like everybody's a smoker, except Accelerate. Nobody knows if he is or not. Well, maybe when he overclocks too much, he smokes. "Anyway. Page has the land, is workin' on the permits. One of the first items he needs, though, is some Wrought Iron radicals. He needs rather a lot of them… fifty kilos, to start with. Plus maybe a few other items if they're available. Trouble is, nobody has them in the proper quantities except for /one/ guy… and he lives and works in the FTZ. Goes by the name of Topaz. Pretty well-connected guy."
Accelerate looks around, notices a theme, and his icon pulls out an ancient looking pack of 'Kools' brand cigarettes.
Blindside eyes Zoey for a long moment, then gestures to Slinger. "This better be good." A gesture to Zoey. "I don't trust her. She's crazy. You? You got cred. You got my respect. My R-E-S-E-….pect…"
Blindside apparently couldnt' figure out how to spell 'respect'.
Dane raises an eyebrow and still smokes nothing but motions toward Zoey while looking toward her, "What's wrong with the Z-Doc?"
Air frowns at Blindside, "Zoey is trustworthy, you can't even spell respect." Then he turns back to Slinger, shit stirring finished, "Fifty kilos of iron out of the FTZ, mmm." He puffs on his fag thoughtfully.
Zoey is all too glad to correct Blindside here: "R-E-S-P-E-C-T," she says, SLOWLY.. almost motherese. "Perhaps a word that was omitted from your vocabulary?" she postulates with a smirk.. then goes back to her silent fag-smoking.
Slinger chuckles. And quotes.
Said the cat: "We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat. "You're here."
Slinger grins. "Let's face it. You gotta be a little crazy to do this job we all do."
Pulling a cigarette out of the pack, Accelerate lights it up with a quick lightning bolt, then procedes to start smoking. Where the cigarette is going, no idea, since his icon hasn't a face. It just goes where a mouth should be, looking totally out of place.
"Anyway. Enchanter's shop is… well, a pretty well-defended mojo-target. Anybody here do mojo 'sides me? Otherwise… this could get real tricky." He considers things for a moment. "Accelerate… willin' to cut you in for a full share on this one. If we do this right, there'll be plenty of cash. But Page has promised a minimum of thirty thousand each on this."
Blindside thinks that over for a moment, looking at Zoey. "I don't need the money." Says Blindside then, turning to Slinger. "SOrry man. Ms thang over there may go spastic if I have to use a drone." he says, then turns for the door.
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "Where is this magic shop we're hitting?"
Slinger nods to Blindside. "I dunno… is there some kinda history goin' on?" he asks, directing the question to both Blindside and Zoey. While he doesn't subscribe to the notion that all his friends must like each other, this is creating a professional problem. Albeit a small one. "Shop is down in the FTZ. Should be easy to get the exact address. Though if you could find us floorplans, security, anything along those lines. Maybe a schedule of when this guy will be out…"
Dane frowns and glances between BlindSide and Zoey but then goes back to being unreadable for now, just not saying anything and listening up.
"Talk about it later, Mojojojo. Do your work, drama-lamma free-arama." Says the dwarf, stepping out the door. "Hasta la pasta."
Without divulging too much or indeed bringing hers AND Blindsides business to the table, she merely says, "In a word, yes." She shrugs, and there is little shame or remorse in her voice over this.. which for Zoey to act this way toward anyone is rare, as most everyone here would know. As for what B-side does.. his business.
"Huh. Okay," Slinger says, drawing the word out. But since nobody seems to want to fill him in, he shrugs a shoulder. Blindside can be judgemental; he already has seen that in action before. "All right. Well, that means we're gonna need somebody to drive somethin'." He pauses. "This /is/ gonna be in the FTZ, which means everybody needs to have some kinda ID that'll get us into there and back out again, with the goods. Or we need a smuggler we can hire."
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "I believe that covers the guy's schedule if he doesn't live in the FTZ?"
You paged Accelerate with 'He's a level 1 contact. What're you giving him for that kind of info? And yeah, he does live there.'.
Air hmms, "I don't mind using my ride, it's got the untraceable mods all done, no armour or anything like that so no combat scenes but otherwise it's cool. I got ID that will probably manage too, since it's tied to my business and such." Air points out his options quietly, with the plain monotone accent that he adopts around new people.
Dane lifts one of his hardliner gloves from the edge of his deerhide leather jacket. You know, the one with the fringe. A slight movement is made to get attention briefly, and then the man says in a soft French accent, "I have a CAS SIN I can use, and I am good at driving. What kind of ride do you have?" He asks Air, "50 kilos iron is 110 pounds, " So says Dane's Math SPU3.
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "Anyway, I'll go ahead and search the Denver RTG for leads, TN is 3."
Zoey has no resources at her disposal that would help to that end, so she waits for someone else to speak up and offer an alternative before she starts thinking about alternatives herself. With luck, someone else here has a suitable vehicle.. "Border-check is no problem here," she offers.
"110 pounds is 50 kilos," she offers conversely, for the benefit of all the Europeans in the group!
Slinger nods. "All right. And 50 kilos doesn't seem like a lot, but it's… unwieldy. Normally, I'd have the Suburban, but it's sorta in the shop," he admits. "Gettin' some mods put in." He lights up a fresh cancer stick.
Air nods to Zoey and Dane, thanks for the conversions, I work in kilos so thats really helpful." He actually seems deadpan serious about that. "I have a Dynamite, by the way."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "Okay. This is going to be a fairly trivial search, so the base time is only 15 minutse."
Dane nods to Zoey, "That is right." and then to Air he nods, "Welcome." he says with a faint grin. Dane shuts up and then looks to Slinger again.
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "Excuse me for interupting, I need more information on this shop and the man or woman who owns it. Perhaps a name and address would make things easier, if you have them?"
Slinger nods. "Border check won't be a problem for me, either, as long as I'm careful what toys I bring. My Masking will handle most of it." He pauses. "This is going to be interesting." He takes a moment to scope the auras of those present.
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "Excuse me again, but boarder checks won't be an issue, I happen to know someone."

Slinger nods to Accelerate. "Fair enough. That'll work well, then," the youth agrees. "All right. So getting there won't be a problem, nor getting out. The next question is going to be, what are we gonna do when we get there? Any word on his schedule?"
«Plot» Slinger says, "Current time, by the way, is just after noon."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "If you do a search, you'll come up with a few interesting things. First, he's relatively well-connected. On the board for several charities. In fact, said charity is having an awards banquet this very evening… one in which he is a keynote speaker."

«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "5 successes in results, 4 in time, takes like, 4 minutes."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "He goes up to the podium at 7:30 PM sharp."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "Scheduled to speak for an hour."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "Biiiig fundraiser thingy."
Slinger grins, leans back in his chair, sucks down a draw of smoke while holding the cigarette up with a conspiratorial grin. "By the way, Page is a little jealous. So… he's thinking, if you guys wanna make it so this guy isn't /quite/ as powerful as he was, that'll be nice. Maybe worth a bonus."
Air hmms as he stubs out his cigarette into the ashtray, "Professional courtesy? Is taking 50 kilos of wrought iron radicals not damaging enough? Should we take a limb from him so he is not whole any longer?" Air steps back again after the stubbing out and leans up against the wall, creepy monotone voice and all.
Dane looks slowly toward Air momentarily before Dane encourages softly, "Could target any magical foci he has. Not sure delimbing is really needed."
Zoey raises a brow.. ".. How 'bout we just get the stuff and leave it at that?" she offers.. not angrily.. or anything like that. But she isn't especially hot on the idea of hurting someone just for the sake of jelousy. She shoots Air an 'Damnit stop being emo' look, though it's a look shared between friends, so it's also friendly in it's obvious sort of emnity. If such a thing makes sense..
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "Alright, so here's what I have so far. At 7:30 tonight he is going to be a keynote speaker at a big charity event. Speech lasts an hour. Apparently he's pretty well connected in the charity land."
Slinger nods slowly to Zoey's comment. "Yeah. Personally, I have to agree, but was just passing it along. We can grab a few extra things, perhaps, but be careful what you take… and for the Gods' sake, lemme look at it bef…" And then Accelerate announces his information, and he grins broadly. "Perfect. That means the guy will be elsewhere, up on a podium, where he can't exactly astrally project or call the cops or whatever. Even so, we'd have to work fast." He taps his chin. "What're the odds you can find the place, see if he has any security stuff you can deal with?"
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "This guy has a contract with KE for his building. Not platinum, bug Gold level."
Air glances at the screen for the first time and gives whatever the hell that icon is a nod, "Alright, so we need his location, how long it takes him to get from where he is to this charity event. They usually last longer afterwards so we have somewhere above an hour."
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "His shop has a Gold level KE contract."
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "Or more accurately, the building his shop is in."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger has no idea what that'd mean for his cameras and what-not. He does have Matrix-based physical security, though, connected back to KE to let them monitor things. Cameras and pressure plates and the whole nine yards. Though no magical security — he probably provides that himself.
Dane looks toward the screen as well, nodding a little bit before he says softly, "Probably, it would be good to get the initial run done, and then go back to handle his person if anyone really wants to take that part on."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "His shop is in the back of a relatively nice warehouse. He apparently rented the back part of the building, with the front three-quarters being used by a storage and shipping company."
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "Security on the shipping company?"
Slinger shakes his head. "No need. If he's speaking — that'll limit what he can do. If we can catch it right when he's on stage…"
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "Relatively minimal, actually. They have maglocks and cameras, sure, but this guy does his own security."
Dane shakes his head, "On stage is bad. After party, good sniping."
Slinger glances over at Dane, frowns. "Not sure you understand the nature of the mission? This ain't wetwork, that I know of. The guy isn't the target. The stuff in his shop is. This is a basic snatch-and-grab."
Dane says "gel of course, no need to be killing him." Dane coughs softly. "Yeah.""
Dane frowns and then shakes his head just a little, "I try not to kill people."
Air glances at Dane, "I think he just got a little carried away with the bonus you mentioned for making him less powerful. Anyway, timing will be important then."
Dane just nods once, "Misunderstood what you meant by 'on stage' my bad."
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "Can I snag a line to the matrix feed of the shipping company's cameras?"
"Very," Slinger agrees, leaning forward. "As far as mojo-stuff… frankly, we're gonna be dealing with elementals and other kinds of magical traps," he points out. "I'm… prolly gonna be stretched pretty thin," he admits. "So come loaded for bear. Specifically, Awakened bear."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "Yeah, that should be relatively easy. Not trivial, but easy."
«Auto-Judge[kn]» Accelerate (#748) rolls Computers + Task Pool: 3 vs TN 5 (to Slinger) for "Quick matrix rules.":
1 2 2 2 3 3 4 4 4 7 7 = 2 Successes
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "I'm just looking for employees. I want to see their uniforms."
Dane sighs softly, "Awakened rabbits, awakened bears… Hmm." he says but then nods and then glances around, "Alright, we got location, using his car." Dane motions to Air and then says, "Anyone got KE contacts in case of trouble?"
Slinger chuckles, shakes his head. "So far as I know, the cops don't even know I exist," the youth admits. "And I like it that way." The air is getting hazy down here, and Slinger adds to it as he rocks his chair back, resting the back of it against the concrete wall. "See, the thing about mages is, concentration. There's a limit to what he can do from where he is. He's a hermetic, I'm pretty sure. Most Enchanters are. If he were a shaman, he'd be basically powerless. Wrong domain. A hermetic, though, can send his Elementals to protect his place. But it'll mean stopping his speech, distracting himself…
Air quirks an eyebrow at Slinger, "I got about ten 'awakened bear' rounds. You got point on that." He gets hazy down here, damn Air. "So we need the location, the timing and to go over the route in and out beforehand to make sure we get it right."
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "If you'll take a look at the monitor, I have just aquired access to the matrix feed for the security cameras in the shipping warehouse he is located in. Apparently he rents the back third of the warehouse. The remainder of the warehouse does not have a KE account, and has minimal security. I am checking now to see if I can access the maglocks over the matrix."
Dane nods, and he glances toward the hazy Air and then to said monitor.
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "You can't access the maglocks. They're off-matrix. But what you /can/ get your hands on, with a few nice hacks, is the keycodes used to generate the maglock keys. It's childs play to make some of those and get them couriered to the runners if you want."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "That gets them into the warehouse itself."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "The actual magic shop, though, is not reachable from the warehouse. It has its own entrances and exits, though it may well share plumbing and HVAC."
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "I'll do so. The magic shop though… What are the walls made of?"
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "More specificly, the wall between the two."
The monitor shows standard security camera footage. This time of day, there are a few guys standing around smoking, and a forklift that is lazily moving through the aisles. There's the back entrance, just to the side of the magic shop — which is its own, enclosed space. Big roll-up door. There's another entrance with cars along it. There's another shot down an aisle. There's the guys and the forklift again.
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "Looks like brick from here, but it's hard to tell from just the camera footage. Could be brick facade with ferrocrete behind it for all you know."
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "I'll take the security camera footage and clean it up with the newsnet trideo processing applications on thier network, if that'll get me any better clue?"
Dane studies and commits these things to memory, and then he nods some. He glances to the others and then asks, "Well, alright, what comm channel would you like to use?" and he gets out his tactical comm from his pocket.
Air glances over the security feed on the screen. "Low security area next door, seems too good to be true, makes things a lot easier I suppose." He glances to Dane and the others and pulls a taccomm out of his backpack, reeling off a frequency.
Dane responds by setting his tactical comm as well, and then he slips a splitter cable into its jack, and then he puts it away into his sexy jacket. "Alright, we got everything we need?" he inquires softly, "Anything else?"
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "Not really. You just can't see much. It looks like brick."
Slinger sets his comm as well. "Right. So we get into the border. Accelerate, you got those frequencies, right? Link to our pocsecs for any other info?" He grins. "So who's drivin', and will we all fit? Or do I have to sit in Zoey's lap?" he asks, waggling his eyebrows at her teasingly.
Air chuckles, "The Dynamite's got room for five, but only two doors, and I'm the one legally licensed to drive it so, I guess I'm driving." He turns to head for the door, "Gonna need to change the paintjob on it, it's licensed as red.
Slinger nods. "What kinda cargo room you got on that thing? 'Cause I got some stuff I need to get across," he admits. "My armor to start with. And Zoey's as well." He takes a drag of smoke, and then grins. "Of course, as long as they don't search it /too/ heavily, we're fine…
Dane follows out, "I can take my car as well if needed, if there is not enough room for everyone and all the armor between the two vehicles." he offers.
Air shakes his head at Slinger, "Unless it's the small stuff it ain't gonna happen. It's a sportscar not a truck. Sorry, no hidden compartments or anything like that."
Slinger considers that. "Anything you can do anything about?" he asks Accelerate. "Damn. Wish my SUV was out of the shop." He mutters. "Hell… I'll just get through on my own," the youth comments. Dane, though, draws a lifted brow. "Whatcha got?" he wonders.
Dane pauses and looks back to Slinger, then to the others before saying, "Ford Americar, LoneStar style. You know, one of the patrol cars?"
To put it bluntly, y'all can make it across the border. Between Accelerate helping out, Slinger — as necessary — hovering above and Masking and being all stealthy, and using Control Thoughts on anybody who looks like they're getting too curious, and proper SINs, you can get across with your gear — within reason.
«Plot» Slinger says, "It's approaching about 2 PM by the time you get across, though. Having to wait in line behind semis."
«OOC» Air ponders if that means he can have his redline.
«OOC» Slinger says, "Slinger'll carry it across for ya :)"
«Plot» Accelerate delivers passcodes for the maglocks before you all leave.
«Plot» Slinger says, "All right. Poses one we get over there. We got 5 hours to kill in the FTZ. By the way, restaurants over here are 'spensive!"
Air gets on through with his Saab carrying various armours and passengers, whoever decided they wanted to ride in the sexy vehicle with it's plush real leather seats and ten speaker stereo system, it looks expensive in there. His ID with permits coming out of it's ears passes inspection, of course it does, just another small business holder going through into the FTZ for a nice dinner with a pretty lady (Zoey passes as pretty at a glance.) Dane gets the back seat, some sort of close protection or hang on, third wheel, who knows? The engine rumbles that quiet whine of a V12 that European engineering creates as he drives around the FTZ.
Commlink-Air> Air says, "Where do you wanna go?"
Commlink-Slinger> Slinger says, "At this point? Heading to the property on a drive by. I'm tempted to go inside, pay him a visit, but that might be a little suspicious. I might get away with it, though, but I got no idea this guy's power level."
Dane is quite happy to chill in the back, even if he is prettier than Air boy over there. He does not say much, though he does huddle up in the back and fiddle with cables while shadowing off his right side for some reason.
Part 3: Slinger and the Mage
OOC Note: This was not part of the initial log. I didn't want to make everyone else wait while I, in essence, roleplayed with myself, and they weren't there to see much or hear anything.
Once across the border, Slinger signs off of the comm, and then heads casually toward the shop in question. He has Physical Mask active, at the moment, and is of course using his ability to Mask himself. So far, it has yet to fail him. He pushes open the door to the shop, hearing the soft 'Ding' from an old-fashioned bell hanging above the door — those are hard to jury-rig, electronically.
The youth steps inside, appearing to be in his mid-twenties. One of his disguises, that of a relatively well-dressed young corporate executive type, and he has the wide-eyed gawking innocence of someone unfamiliar with magic, as he browses through the contents of the shelves, picking up items occasionally.
The proprietor appears to be busy with another customer, though he is keeping a casual eye on the newcomer as well. It is only when the customer and the mage finish their business that he turns his attention to this new customer. He stays behind the counter, but then eyes this youth. Something about him seems… out of place. "May I help you?"

What was, to the visible eye — and even, initially, to the astral eye — a simple mundane young man now yields to his closer scrutiny. The masking falls away, and Slinger is revealed in all his elfin, majestic glory, including his foci — all of them, hanging from him like a glowing Christmas tree. And the spell that he is sustaining — spells, really, plural. Including the armor spell, and the physical mask, that the youth has active upon himself.
The proprietor lifts a brow, gazing back at the young mage, and he curls his lips upward. "You have some power," he decides, regarding Slinger for a few long moments. Someone unfamiliar to him. The youth turns around, trying to maintain the disguise, blinks once, twice — though the mage can clearly see the small burst of fear that fills the yong mage's heart.
"Excuse me?" Slinger asks, hesitantly. Has he been found out? Ever since he learned this newest form of Masking, no one save Janie has been able to penetrate it — and she could not do so reliably. "I was just, you know, tryin' to find…"
Impatiently, the proprietor waves a dismissive hand. "You come into my shop under false pretenses. Perhaps hoping to get a discount?" he asks, with a curl of his lips. "Or perhaps scoping out the competition?" he guesses, with a sly smile on his face, a soft tap of his fingernail against the glass counter. "Either way, I prefer to see the face of those I deal with. The /real/ face," he adds, with a firmer, more demanding note in his voice.
Slinger takes a breath, lets out a slow sigh, and nods — defeated, his shoulders slumping. And with a gesture, he dismisses the spell. The gesture is, of course, unnecessary, but in this case it feels right. Revealed to the man is Slinger as he is, including the coat and his T-shirt and jeans. Accelerate will be wiping the logs, Slinger reminds himself, painfully aware that he is being scrutinized by at least two cameras right now. "Sorry. I… well, didn't want to be recognized. My usual talismonger… well, I have a project I'm not sure he's up for," the youth admits, glancing around, as if afraid of being overheard.
"Astral space is clear," the mage assures him, with a soft chuckle. Ah, business, and the opportunity for profit. "We are not being overheard. There is something you seek, then? Or something you wish to commission? Perhaps a custom focus — something to match your abilities?" His eyes flick to the necklace around Slinger's neck… and the unmistakable signs of greed show in his eyes as he realizes exactly what this young mage is carrying. And for just an instant, wicked thoughts cross his mind.
Slinger manages a small, nervous smile. "Indeed. My talismonger told me it could not be done," he murmurs. "I thought I would get a second opinion. He told me that Centering foci could not go above Force Level Six. I suspect that like most foci, they scale up to whatever force you are willing to afford, or risk."
Centering foci. So this is one who specializes in spellcasting, of course. Maybe a security mage. Perhaps. Though he doesn't work for KE, not with that haircut! "Well, of course they /can/ go higher," the man murmurs. "And I have the requisite skills. But of course such an item would be illegal without the proper permits.
Slinger smiles, shrugs one shoulder. "The proper permits are a matter of bookkeeping by the mundanes," he comments dismissively. "Men of magic know that there are ways of dealing with such things, given the proper incentives. And no, I'm not a cop."
Topaz curls his lips upward, already seeing nuyen signs. "Indeed. Do you have any specifications?" he asks the young mage. "I will need a deposit, of course. Half down, for custom work. Half when you pick it up. You're responsible for first bonding costs out of your own energies, so the more orichalcum you buy for me to use, the better."
"Oh," Slinger says, pretending ignorance. "I… uh… I see. That stuff is expensive, right?" he asks carefully.
Topaz can see he has a live one, here. Given the number of foci on the mage, he has purchased — or stolen — a lot of these before. He has money, or can get it. "Relatively, yes. A good estimate for the cost of this item — depending on various factors, of course, is about six hundred thousand."
Slinger winces visibly at the proffered cost. Six hundred thousand is a lot of cred. But even so, he does recover. "Might… take me a little time to get that together," he admits, though it clearly pains him to do so. "Once I find out how much I'm gonna have, I'll come back. And we'll talk more about it, perhaps?" he asks hopefully.
Topaz grins broadly. "Of course, of course! This is a big investment, of course. You can find cheaper," he adds loftily, "but you get what you pay for. I make everything myself, so there are no suppliers to worry about providing inferior goods. In fact…" And he's off, on his sales pitch, while Slinger stands mutely and listens, glancing where the man gestures — and in the process, gets a few moments to scope out the layout of the place. Cameras there and there. Maglock there and there.
Slinger listens, and then, after some conversation and a few questions, inclines his head. Topaz does not shake hands — it tends to break the whole mystical-aloofness image — and then Slinger departs from the store, breathing a little harder and heavier. The guy… saw through… his Masking. This unnerves the young mage more than he would care to admit.
Part 4: Lasagna
«OOC» Slinger says, "Anybody have any coments about Slinger going to scope it out?"
«OOC» Accelerate will clear the cameras of Slinger's presence.
Zoey says even less than Dane. She is almost suspiciously quiet.. She wonders about the power level of the mage though and whether he will be trouble.
Slinger: Zoey, what does the scouter say about his power level?
Zoey: *Crushes Scouter* It's over..
No sorry I couldn't finish that, it's just too horrible. I apologize. But, while we're on the subject of being accross.. what kind of gear did we smuggle on over?
«Plot» Slinger says, "Slinger will be using Physical Mask, so the cameras see nothing… at least initially. Though he ends up dropping it halfway through for some reason. No audio pickup in there."
Dane already has his browning and az-150 in his sexy fringed deerhide leather jacket thing. Yeah. He sockets the main end of the splitter cable into his head, on the right side, actually having a datajack somewhere under the rambo headband thing he always wears for -some- reason. Dane situates the small datajack -cover- over the engravings, ahem, and then he adjusts the headband slightly, though it is pulled askew due to the cabling. He turns back forward and then sockets the last line of the splitter cable into the pocket secretary.
Commlink-Joseph> Dane says, "Good luck."
Air just tootles around in the car, not wanting to drive by the place while it was all rigged up in legal mode. He looks about for an off the main street typeof restaurant or diner for them all to chill out in.
«Auto-Judge[kn]» Slinger (#69) rolls 18 vs TN 13 (to no one) for "Slinger trying to see through the guy's masking… need 1 success only.":
1 2 2 2 2 2 2 3 3 4 4 4 4 5 8 9 11 16 = 1 Success
Commlink-Air> Air says, "Indeed, we'll try to find somewhere nearby public to wait at."
Slinger comes back after a few minutes. He's disguised again, though he doesn't look happy. "Fragger saw through my Masking," the kid says. He looks… actually, he looks a little on the scared side. "But I got a look around the shop. Didn't see the iron, but it's probably in back, or in storage. The shop's got cameras, all kinds of fun security stuff," he comments, lighting up a cigarette. "Looks like a real simple layout. Pretty similar to the High Arcana — guy even lives on site, in an apartment upstairs."
Dane pets the leather seats a little back here where there was a lot of room, "Such a nice car. Where did you get it?" the rifle man inquires.
Zoey has to ask, "Wait.. You got seen? So they will be expecting trouble, then?" she wonders as they.. Are they lounging now at a restaurant? If so, Zoey opts in for Italian.. GOOD Italian.. If anyone suggest Olive Garden they are going to get a cold, British stare from her.. the kind that would turn babies to stone and kill kittens.
-
Air pulls them up to an Italian ristorante then, Pappagallos. Very good pasta. He's drinking a small Peroni and eating on a plate of your average penne pasta himself. "The car was given to me as a present," is his only reply to the question on where it came from.
Slinger shows up at the restaurant a few moments later, with his appearance as a relatively well-dressed young businessman. Or maybe a lawyer. He has that sly look about him, even as he lights up a cigarette and joins you at your table in the smoking section. "Fragger saw through my Masking," he says again, shaking his head in disbelief.
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "Well, KE is triggered via matrix, so it is an intercept data followed by a crash application opperation to disable the matrix alarms. Knight Errant won't be showing up."
Commlink-Slinger> Slinger says, "Gotcha. What about the cameras? You think you can own those?"
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "Note! Once again, the cameras in the shop are /not/ the cameras in the warehouse! Two different systems!"
Dane frowns slightly, "That means he can send watcher spirits to you, and that he is a masker, too?" he inquires, not quite certain about these things. He then glances down to the chicken fettucine alfredo he has eaten about half way through. There is filtered water with lemon in it beside the plate.
Slinger nods, sitting down at the table. He takes a hard drag of smoke. "Yeah. It means he could, potentially, yeah. I'm gonna have to be real careful on this one," the youth admits. "I came in, just asked a few questions, asked him for some pricing… but he saw right through it, dunno how much info he actually got. But probably a lot." The youth sighs again. "I saw right through his, of course. He's probably… two grades lower than I am. We do /not/ want to be there when he gets back… and I have to very carefully erase my signatures, because he will track us down."
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "Yeah, but I can just disable the entire system and feed the KE guys a loop of nothing happening. They are still communicating via matrix."
"One thing I did notice - he's got the place warded all to hell and back, except for the front area. But he pointed out I was Masking and told me to either drop it or leave. Wasn't rude — was nice and polite — explained it was something about his insurance."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "Yeah, if you can compromise it."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "I would guess that a KE-installed system at gold level would not be a cakewalk."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "Also, to clarify, the codes you got were for the warehouse, not his shop. You haven't penetrated his shop yet that I know of, any if its security."
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "I can compromise it anywhere on the datapath. A KE server, maybe not. But if a decker knows what he's doing, he can compromise it on the LTG level, which is minimal security. It's like instead of hacking a server, hacking the phone lines they communicate on."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "And what if it has some local place for storage of the data?"
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "If I went into the KE server, I'd just crash it and be done."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "Is there such a thing as a host you can't get into?"
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, " Some local place for storage? Well, I can't trace the physical location very easily in all realism, so the solution there is to find his matrix host and plug in a dataline tap once you get inside. I then have full console access to his files, and bam, I format the hard drive, so to speak."
Well, what Shadowrun is complete without complications, suppose.. Zoey munches down a small plate of lasagna while the discussion is being had. "Do you s'pose he could be.. distracted, or misdirected just to be on the safe side? IF he's as powerful as you say, then it would be best to keep him away from us."
Dane mms softly before taking in a few more strands of pasta, apparently having been taught good table manners by someone, he utilizes them right now.
Slinger is fairly shaken. Not often that somebody can actually /see/ his aura, and given what we're about to do, it's bothering him a bit. "All right. Well, here's the thing. I still think we stick to the original plan. If he's giving a speech, there's a limit to what he can do. He can send elementals after us, but that's about all. And that's assuming he has some way of knowing."
Dane says quietly, "Must neutralize all of the watcher spirits so that we are not given away as well." and then he resumes his noodle eatering.
Slinger wonders, "Who's good with Electronics?"
Dane glances over toward Air when that question is presented, and then nods.
Air nods to Slinger, "Well you got me beat on the magic knowledge so, whatever you say. We go in, get the stuff, leave. I know my way around electronics." He adds the last in reply to Slinger.
Slinger nods to Dane. "Yeah. Though, funny thing about it is, there's no way to actually /know/ an aura unless you've seen it. You can't write it down or take a picture. Even as Watcher spirit can't show you an aura it's seen. It can describe it, but that's not good enough."
Slinger nods. "Might be Accelerate can't really get us past the locks. Can you? Either way, I want to be prepared…"
Dane huhs softly, "I thought they took pictures. Guess I need to slap someone for telling me wrong." he makes a mental note to berate some people, then eats.
"I can get around a lock, too.. If need be," she offers. "Together, we should be alright," she adds, nodding to Air. Plus she had her deck with her, in case they needed an on-site hack.
Air shrugs, "I've got my kit with me in case of that, Zoey ain't exactly bad with electronics either, last I checked. We're covered. We going in, fully suited? I'm not sure it's a good idea for us normal types that can't… camouflage."
Dane hmms softly, "I have no power armor, just my regular armor bits." he confesses before taking a drink of the lemon water. Oh yeah. Good stuffs.
"Got good armor.. but are we really expecting that kind of potential resistance?" she wonders aloud, sipping on a bit of kiwi-lime spritz. "Considering we are in the fTZ.. Getting into a firefight would be …. Bad." Not just bad.. probably deadly.
Dane nods slightly about that one, "Probably not a good idea to get caught at all with anything." he says very quietly. He puts the water down.
"Hey, Accelerate. Can you get into the warehouse systems, check payroll, that kinda thing? See what they got after hours? If nothing else… sneak in there, hide out for a bit when they close, get our gear on, and then we can go where we need to. You pretty much own that system, right?"
"The trick is to do it quietly," Slinger nods, agreeing. "But yeah, once KE shows up, our goose is cooked. Which means we hit it hard and fast. Speed is gonna be a factor."
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "It would be my pleasure."
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "I think I can prevent the KE alarm from going out, but you will need to install a dataline tap into the console of his matrix host to clear the cameras. Apparently he has a dual feed setup and one of the feeds isn't accesible matrix side."
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "Lucky you it is just a recording system, so no need to worry about the cameras unless you can't find the host."
Over the comm Zoey says, "I do have a Data tap on me, so if we get the chance, that would probably be a good idea," she says. Good thing she remembered to bring all her decker shit, huh?
Air grunts, "I'm no slower armoured up, but it is rather obvious on the streets. I'll stick to the concealed stuff." He hums for a moment and then gets back to finishing off his penne pasta and small beer.
Dane finishes up his own food and water, even eating the lemon just because he can. He nods slightly, but has nothing else to add here really.
Slinger nods. "Right. So when the guy gets up to speak, Accelerate hits the trix stuff. We pick the lock… I sleaze through the ward if I can, and get inside. With luck… maybe he'll just have some Watchers guard ing it. I zot those, I'll have my elementals with me. That's when he'll know. He might send an elemental or two, then we'll be fine. Zoey puts in the dataline tap, rest of us grab the drek, and we get the hell out. I clean up my signatures, make sure nobody bled anywhere, and then we're gone, back out into the warehouse and then out the door before anybody's the wiser.
"That sound about right?"
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "You'll want to remove the tap."
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "Of course, there is the alternate plan B you might consider."
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "That's a shipping warehouse, correct?"
Zoey is mouthing down the last of her Lasagna as the conversation continues.. thankfully her comm system runs voicelessly. »Sounds good.. And yes.. I paid good money for that thing after all,« she says. Worse even if it could somehow be tracked back to her.. Zoey swallows. »What's that?«
Commlink-Joseph> Dane electronically transduces, "Oh?"
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "Could always jack a truck headed for the warehouse, move the items into boxes in the warehouse, and ship the items via matrix to wherever."
Air is silent as he finished his meal and sips from his beer.
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "All the same building, you wear uniforms for the shipping company, etc."
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "Then you don't even have to worry about getting the items out of the FTZ."
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "Not that we have to worry about custom checks, but I'm just saying, it's an option."
Slinger chuckles. "Nice," the youth remarks, lighting up another cigarette. He gets some chicken parmesan. Meat-eating elf! "Who needs to do what before we go in? And when do people typically leave the warehouse, Accelerate?"
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "The warehouse, people basically get off work at 5:30, and everybody's gone by 6."
Commlink-Air> Air says, "Seems to me that route means having the iron in the trucks waiting to go out and then we have to hope that the owner doesn't find his fifty kilos of iron missing."
Dane piles his silverware and other things neatly on his plate, so the wait staff would not have to. He quietly considers these things, and then he comms the party with the transducer, "I think the initial plan seems to fit the situation better. If we were hauling more, it might be a different deal."
Commlink-Slinger> Slinger nods. "And if it's got an aura, he can track it. I probably oughtta ward the inside of your vehicle," Slinger admits. "Or whatever we're using to transport it. Which is gonna have to be the Americar."
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "Apparently everyone in the warehouse gets off at 5:40, and are out by 6 pm"
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "Well wait a second, can you just steal the entire shop via trucks, and drive off?"
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "I know we weren't hired for that, but I would think it's worth more than just the iron radicals?"
Commlink-Slinger> Slinger chuckles. I dunno if I can drive a big truck. And I ain't gonna tool to the FTZ border with a forklift loaded with iron.
Commlink-Slinger> Slinger says, "I don't think we'd have time to load up everything inside the shop."
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "Gridguide, my friend. I can drive 6 trucks to the boarder at once."
Commlink-Joseph> Dane says, "I can drive. I don't work at the Mustang Ranch for nothin."
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "Is this even an option, though? I don't know if this has any magic implications."
Commlink-Joseph> Dane says, "I think it might if he's bound to any of the items? I am not certain about the details on these things."
Commlink-Slinger> Slinger says, "Well, there was a truck there when I was there… but I dunno if they have a fleet of trucks," Slinger admits. "I dunno — I'm afraid if we get too greedy, we'll end up screwing ourselves.""
Commlink-Air> Air says, "I'm driving my car for this. A single truck sounds good though, and would hurt this enchanting shop some too."
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "Don't chops like that pack up into moving van sized areas, though?"
Commlink-Slinger> Slinger says, "If we had unlimited time, perhaps. But it takes a while. Like a couple of hours. We are gonna be lucky to have a few /minutes/."
Part 5: Intrusion
After a little more time, we are off, heading toward the warehouse, just after 6:30 PM. It's still light outside, but the Saab easily cruises through traffic now that rushhour is past. The magic shop itself is closed… and Accelerate will catch sight of a car leaving with a single occupant just before the Shadowrunners get there. Slinger will arrive separately, powering up with his spells and armor, his weapon loaded, entirely ready to go. Luckily, there is little in the way of drone cover to investigate flying mage-tanks, at least right here. Most of them seem to be occupied with other matters, such as security for the big fundraiser.
It's easy to park the vehicle somewhere nearby, right in a blind spot covered only by cameras that Accelerate controls. The door to the warehouse yields easily to to the passkeys that Accelerate made for us, and Slinger slips inside. There is a chirp from the security system, which starts to demand an access code — but it quickly switches to 'disarmed' as the master Decker disarms it.
On the matrix, Accelerate starts his move against the cameras. He connects to the various hosts, makes an RTG loop, and starts his hack against the warehouse. He waits for a moment to get a shot of the empty warehouse to loop, then starts intercepting the data packets.
«OOC» Slinger says, "Pose what you're doing for prep as we get ready."
«OOC» Slinger says, "Somebody needs to open that big rear garage-door thingy — which is right next to our target. Remember, no actual doors from the warehouse into the magic shop."
«OOC» Slinger says, "There's no code or any rolls needed to open the garage door."
«OOC» Slinger says, "Use plot-page (=>slinger=…) to send me questions if you have them."
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "Will I ever get my pony?"
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "When you grow up."
Air parks the SAAB carefully in the right spot, and with his concealed armour on under his day to day clothes and his two pistols holstered beneath the longcoat. He makes sure the garage door is open for everyone before he does anything else, then he heads over to check out the entry into the shop itself, checking out the maglock and moving t pull out his electronics kit and get to work on opening that up.
Slinger shoots out the large garage door as soon as it is open, and he darts into the back parking lot, which is empty. He scans both the astral and physical realms, and shakes his head. « Coast is clear, » he says over the comm. « Nothing outside the shop, anyway. » He peers into the shop, through the glass window, eyeing it carefully. But so far, his Masking is keeping him safe. The actual storefront area is clear… with magical accessories and cheap items lining the shelves. The expensive stuff is obviously kept somewhere else.
The store, apparently, consists of the main front room where customers go, a back workshop area, and an upstairs flat, each with windows that are heavily alarmed. There's a maglock on the front door, with its own alarm system.
«Plot» Slinger says, "Maglock is Rating 5 card reader with biometric."
Slinger meanwhile checks all the windows, stealthed, invisible, flying. Peering inside through them carefully — though the ward stops him from seeing anything in the astral, he uses the cover of the corner of the window to help protect him. « Nobody home, that I can see, » the youth says firmly. Of course, there are no windows onto the back area, just a single door that opens outward. No handle on this side. Exit only. Leaving the front door as the only way in.
Continuing on with the plan, Accelerate moves out to the FTZ LTG, and then starts impanting a sniffer utility to intercept the datapackets moving from the Warehouse to the KE host. After setting that, up, he waits for the show to start, taking a moment to double check his work.
Dane slinks along after Air, and he has pulled his browning but does not intend to shoot his gunsmith in the back. Dane glances around just to stay wary of things like elemental guards or any other guards, if they should appear.

Air has trouble with the lock casing, it takes him a lot longer than normal to open up the case itself, a full minute. Then he has even more trouble with the lock workings itself, all the common work arounds have been eliminated on this lock, not to mention the anti-tamper system working against him. Especially not wanting to set off an alarm. Sweat beads start to drip as he finally gets the lock undone. Phew.
As soon as the lock is open, Slinger nods. « I'll go in first, scout it, » he offers. The door opens, and the youth darts inside. There's an immediate, insistent beeping, as a panel on the wall displays, "« Enter security code 58 »". And the number is slowly counting down. « Crap. We need to find that system, get the dataline tap on it! » He switches his vision to the astral realm, looks around swiftly. « Astral is clear, for right now. Back door! » There is indeed a door at the back of the room, leading deeper into the store.
«Plot» Slinger says, "Rear door also has a maglock. This one has no anti-tamper, and is rating 3. No biometric. Obviously just intended to keep customers from wandering back here."
Dane winces slightly but then waits for his more quick comrades to head in through the door before he does. He is definitely the slowest here. He keeps an eye on things around him, staying perceptive for where we need the tap.
Air packs up his kit and then heads in after Slinger, and sighs about the countdown, « Zoey, dataline! » He himself goes for the maglock on the rear door, « I'm on maglock duty. » He whips the kit open again and gets to work, feverishly now.

Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "It'll be big and hot."
While Air is working on the maglock with Zoey assisting, Slinger continues to monitor the astral. And that's when he sees a lowly Watcher spirit phasing down through the ceiling, going about its patrol blithely — until it sees the Shadowrunners. Air is /almost/ done when Slinger curses over the comm — and lifts his finger, sending out a spell — and the spirit fries instantly. "That's torn it," the kid mutters — just before Air gets the door unlocked and ready to be opened. « I'll head in first, same drill as last time. » Slinger comms.

«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "Back area is unfinished."
Air has a lot less trouble with the internal door, it's open in less than half the time it took to open the main door, bam and the electronics kit gets slid away again, the door flopping open limply devoid of it's locking mechanism for now.
The door is open, and Slinger darts through it. The room beyond is reasonably well-lit — too bright for 'partial light'. And it has several statues in it, around the walls. Various items in boxes, and a workbench with strange bubbling chemicals and swirling vortices of energy coruscating through the liquids. It looks like something out of the middle ages updated with the resources of modern chemistry, yet still bearing certain hints of antiquity. There are two statues made of stone — and one larger statue, in the center of the room, made of wrought iron. Perhaps that is the iron you were being sent to retrieve…
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "See if you can't just follow the fiber optics cable from the cameras. It'll lead you to a junction box. The junction box will then have two trunks, one leads out of the building, the other will lead to the matrix host. You want to follow it to the host."

«Plot-Page» (To: Zoey) Slinger says, "You can't get to the back of the room. Pose starting to head that way if you would, but you won't get all the way there."
Zoey, meanwhile, is briskly following the various fiber optic conduits running around inside the building, looking for a junction box which should.. yadda yadda.. the point is I find a thingie to put the tap into the thingie. She manages to find where it is, but it's somewhere in a back room which she can't get there. Yet.
Dane makes sure not to be in the way of things, and he hopes that Accelerate will have cams covered with the dataline tap, since his player forgot to put on his balaclava. Oops. Dane will move right after Air does, and he preps to move heavy things, or to hit any spirits that bother them. Dane gets a bit uneasy about the stone statues he sees in the room, eyeing them.
Part 6: Golem!
Slinger flies upward toward the ceiling, which is eight feet high in here, not reaching up the full two stories. And he's waiting, scanning the astral. « Oh, drek. That's not good, » he says — and that's when the wrought-iron statue… suddenly /moves/. The creature seems to awaken, creaking and groaning as it shifts — and turns toward the newcomers, with glowing read eyes in the center of its twisted, metallic face. "Holy frag, it's a golem. I didn't think those were /possible/ anymore! »

Dane shakes his head once and then goes to face off with the golem himself in spirit combat, giving it a cold stare and grunting softly, 'Be gone.'
Zoey, upon seeing the iron horror before them, does what any sane thirty-something woman with a mission does: She continues her original mission.. Dane, however, takes a hit from the sloshy being that tries to maul him against the wall in a Cable Guy fashion. He tries to defend himself with his stick, but it just does not work for him, and he ends up getting SLAMmed (just like Carman sang) into the wall with the elemental body crushing him. He begins to black out from the smashings, and the softest single word is spoken from his lips. Oh, yes, just like a picture show. Finally, he cannot hold on any longer, and he slips into the darkness, and his body slumps, losing his weapon to the floor where it drops in a puddle of water with no more charge in it.

Slinger lashes out with yet one more bolt, starting to get drained from the exertion of going after all these penalties. He's breathing hard in his armor, and he really needs a smoke. While all the fighting has been going on, Zoey has been tinkering with the box, sticking the com unit in there.. It's a frantic twenty second job, with chaos going on all around her as she does.. It's amazing the fight lasts this long however.. Even still, once completed, she immediately stands up from her kneel, aims up toward the golem in reasonable line of sight, and pulls the trigger of her aged M-23, letting the bullets speak for themselves.. She is surprised to find however, that even as she unloads fully automatic into the thing most of her bullets plink and ricochet off it's Iron body.. Okay maybe not surprising, but an awe to behold.
Dane wishes that he could have seen this.

Air watches as Zoey lights up on the pretty looking M-23 into the Golem. Which for some reason then charges him, he valiantly attempts to parry with his pistol, but those iron sword arms are vicious things and the golem manages to skewer Air for a serious physical wound which leaves him reeling in the doorway, almost collpasing over and bleeding everywhere.
The thing raises its sword-bladed arms upward, intending to smack Air one final, fatal time — when Zoey's arc of machine-gun fire lances into the thing intensely. It's physical body fragments, tearing apart into pieces… and it collapses to the ground, the spirit and animation out of it, disrupted, sent back to its plane…
Now it is a twisted heap of metal.
Part 7: Cleanup
Slinger is already moving, staring at Dane. "He's just stunned. Can you stimpatch him enough he can move?" the youth asks. And he sets about swiftly erasing his astral signatures, covering his tracks. "Gather all that metal up into a pile," he orders, over the comm, trying to make sure things keep moving. Time is ticking. "He's had about thirty seconds to respond, which means he's already told somebody to call KE, even from the podium. "Air, how bad you bleedin', man?" he wants to know.
Zoey watches as the construct horror is beating around her friend, and a sudden rage wells up in her.. and a panic.. not to mention Dane is out cold.. things looked back. As if in a wire-fu chinese motion picture, she runs in slow-motion around various cover and lines up a perfect shot, beading up and using all her intense training for a single attack.. Just a handfull of bullets, but the intense prescision of the attack strikes home, directly shattering into the horrors head and upper torso, causing chunks to fly off.. Soon after the thing lays down in a scrap heap. Zoey is breathing hard, and slowly lowers her assault rifle as she watches the thing collapse.. a moment later and she is running over toward Air to look at him.. "Hold still," she says.. And looks him over real quick..
Dane is a twisted heap of human after elementacular bashing. He does not move.
Air bends over forwards with his arms crushed in against his almost completely eviscerated stomach. "Uhh, pretty bad man, Zo, got my savior here…" The backpack slips from his back a little as he keels sideways into the doorframe.
Slinger mutters as he erases signatures. "How long does that thing take? We got maybe two minutes, prolly less, until the fuzz get here." Once he does that, he switches his vision to astral, and eyes that workbench. And his eyes light up — and he dives forward, grabbing two, three of the items from there, and tucking them away. Though there is one massive item, beautiful, ornate — it looks powerful. But Slinges leaves /that/ one alone…

Slinger swoops down, and places his ungloved hand on Air's shoulder. "Hold still, omae," he mutters. "See if you two can maybe gather up that iron… figure out how to get it out of here. There's a lot more than 50 kilos there, but we'll take what we can and hope it's enough… not all of that is iron."
Commlink-Slinger> Slinger says, "Yo, XLR8! You got the security system shut down? I bet KE's tryin' to access it about now…"

Air once saviored and then healed, gasps thanks to the pair and then bends down where he stands to start picking up iron, "Load me up already I can't pick all this crap up." He stands up and holds his arms out for iron.
Slinger grunts, sustaining the spell — and then narrows his eyes, picking off yet another damned watcher spirit as it pops into view. Luckily, those things are easy to take, easy enough that he can handle it even while sustaining a spell, waiting for it to become permanent…
While Slinger is doing this healy-bob flashy magical stuff of healing-ness wincaekLOLOLOLOLOLOL… I'm tired.. And Zoey is gathering chunks of iron and such or the occational bauble. Of course before that she rushes over and slaps a stim patch on Dane to rouse him from his stupor.. "Hang in there, mate.." she says.. Collect collect.. grab.. HMMMMMM. GOGOGO.
«Auto-Judge[kn]» Accelerate (#748) rolls Computers + Hacking Pool: 4 (to Slinger) for "Validate Super user account, TN is 10 to 14, at a -12 due to validate and console access, +6 for super user difficulty, end TN range is 4 to 8.":

Dane blinks his eyelashes until his eyes focus up toward the woman waking him and he smiles. He nods and then groans a bit but makes it up to his feet and puts away his weapons. A glance around through the drugged haze is taken before he moves to the pile of iron and starts to pick up pieces, "This stuff… right?"
Dane drops some iron and then goes to pick it back up. He's lookin sick, man.

Finally, at long last, the Heal is finished. Slinger works on erasing /that/ signature for a few seconds, and then he casts one more spell — and erases /its/ signature. "Just grab the loose stuff. I can get the main body… at least as much as will fit through the door!"
«Auto-Judge[kn]» Slinger (#69) rolls Sorcery + Sorcery Pool: 4 + 7 (power focus) vs TN 5 for "Megakinesis, F3…":

«OOC» Slinger says, "Wow. Slinger takes, in fact, L drain."
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "Host also thinks I am standing 2 feet away from it."
Luckily, it's a wide door. "Somebody grab the door for me," he suggests. And in very short order, Slinger will be able to move the main bulk of the thing out to the car, though it does smack into a few shelves on the way out, knocking over piles of trinkets. And when we get outside, there is already the sound of sirens in the distance…
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "I send the cancel alert signal from the host to KE with full administrative codes, clear the camera memory, and sit, watching."
Commlink-Slinger> Slinger says, "Accelerate — think you can get us clearance through customs for all this crap?"
Air loads up the damn door full of iron bits and orichalcum bits and whatever else went into creating a magical fucking GOLEM with SWORDARMS. Then he leads the way out to the car, opening up a door on his way to popping the trunk for all this iron stuff. Room for 3CF of iron in the trunk.
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "I also watch the broadcast for any sign of KE being sent on patrol."
«Plot» Slinger says, "With Air actually in full form, unless somebody does somethin' dumb, it's free RP from here."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "Oh, yeah. They're very much heading this way…"
Dane picks up pieces and follows Air out, grunting softly from the haze, but he makes it because he is just that damn good. He loads up the trunk, too.
Once it's all said and done, Zoey has stashed some largish chunks of iron in her backpack.. She DOES remember to go snatch her dataline tap back out once Accelerate is done doing trixy stuff.. That done, she goes and assists Dane in getting them the hell out of here, NAO. Plex. Kthxbai.. Cya KE, nice not knowing you. Please have the consolation prize of a room full of broken shit, spent casings. OH WAIT NO. HAH. Zoey collected those too so it sucks to be you.
YOU /LOSE/. Good DAY sir!
Commlink-XLER8> Accelerate says, "I will make my calls, beware KE is on the way, I'll hold them off for as long as I can."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "You actually found a trid signal. Of the mage standing there, giving a speech — and suddenly, he looked very distracted. Very, very distracted, fumbling with his notes… and then he staggered backward as if punched. "Excuse me for a moment," he managed to mumble. And then added, "Can someone please call Knight Errant? It seems my… my shop is being broken… into… "
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "I'll run interference with KE by putting Grid Guide cars in their path everywhere."
Slinger darts back inside… to do one more thing — and erase his signature after the golem is loaded into the Americar…
«Auto-Judge[kn]» Slinger (#69) has the Spell Sterilize with the following information:
«Auto-Judge[kn]» Slinger (#69) rolls Sorcery + Sorcery Pool: 4 + 7 (power focus) vs TN 4 for "Sterilize, Force 4… cleaning up blood from Dane and Air…":

Dane glances toward Zoey and then Air and then all around before, "Welp… thanks for saving me. Whoever did." in his soft French accented tone.
«Plot-Page» (To: Slinger) Accelerate says, "Then I'll call my contact. Have her be ready to let us through."
«Plot-Page» (To: Accelerate) Slinger says, "She's gonna want some cash for this. 10K prolly, total…"
Dane takes up a position by the Saab, ready to get in as soon as given the 'go'.
"You c'n thank everyone," she says. Everyone did their own parts after all. "Including yourself.. If you hadn't taken that fall, it might have been me, and KE might already be knocking on the door ruining the most GORGEOUS of days," she says.. And aptly goes with the rest to make their exodus. Away.. Away and away we go..
Air is just waiting for Slinger now, « In, in, as soon as the Elf gets here we're outta here. » He leans into the car and hits the control inside to change the clour of the car to a dull matte black, switching the plates and changing the transponder codes.
And once that's done, Slinger breathes hard and deep and runs outside, leaving the door locked behind him — and swats another pair of spirits that are trying to attack. He's fighting… and having a little trouble staying conscious, starting to actually take some drain from these… but fortunately, these are fairly low Force. And by keeping pursuers away from us, he is staying ahead of the game as he jumps into the car, trying to stay conscious and focussed. "Hit me with a stimpatch," he tells Zoey, firmly. "I'm serious. Do it."
Dane nods once to Zoey slightly but then is quick to jump into the back of the vehicle and drag all his datacables in with him. He stretches out in the back with Slinger, and then just closes his eyes tiredly, resting.
«Plot-Page» (To: Air) Slinger says, "You manage to escape the parking lot with a few seconds before a KE rotodrone moves in overhead… mixing in with evening traffic… lost in the crowd and the shuffle…"
Dane has the kind of stretching with arms out along the back of the seating.
Zoey, once in the car, is resting into the seat and checking to make sure everyone is seated and everything is going hokey dorey.. when Slinger asks for a slap patch though, she is a little taken.. "Slinger?" she asks, but the firmness in her voice assures her it is not a trifle matter, and does exactly as instructed, knowing full well the consequences and knowing Slinger knew them too.
«Auto-Judge[kn]» Slinger (#69) uses 1 of item 5: Stimpatches Rat. 5 from Equipment (#475).
«Auto-Judge[kn]» Slinger (#69) rolls Magic vs TN 5:
1 1 1 2 3 3 3 4 4 5 5 5 11 = 4 Successes
Properly energized, Slinger shifts his vision back into the astral… and zots the one final tagalong that we have… though this is enough to send him leaning against Zoey, nearly asleep, dizzy, out of it from the drain of that last spell…
Air merges the car into evening traffic, despite the crazy load on board of magic iron and magic people and other crazy people. He hits the control panel inside the car again, making the transponder flip codes for a mile or two and to change the plates to match the new code. «Alright, home time. I want a bonus for this, frag.» air's transduced voice eve sounds tired.
Zoey peels the plastic bit off the slap patch and quickly finds a bare bit of skin on Slinger to apply the thing.. she rubs his arm and applies it.. Then is surprised to see him FALL OVER immediately after onto her. She catches him and, gently, sets his head on her lap as the group hi-tails it out of there, where she will look over him and make sure no ill befalls him during their potentially though hopefully NOT bumpy ride HOMe.. Home and away from this incredibly dangerous, insane run.
Slinger leans against Zoey, trying to recover, shaking his head. He's still awake. "Need a cig'ret," he mutters, slowly sitting back up. And he looks around in the astral. "We're clear," he announces. And from here, it's a straight shot to the border…
Zoey produces a light for Slinger..and a cig if needed, and once for herself as wel..
"Damn bloody right," she says.
Dane is just tired, and he does not say much, being leant on the other side of someone in the back. Not sure who. He just closes his eyes and trusts Air to get them home.
