Uniforms

GM: Mr. Terrific
Players: Flint, Alyse, Stumpy
Synopsis: Flint and Alyse are hired through a fixer by Knight Errant to retrieve the stolen Knight Errant uniforms, badges, and so forth. They hire Mr. Terrific for questioning purposes and Stumpy for head-booting purposes, and carry off the mission in the Warrens against the Vory (Russian mafia) and their ork/troll minions.

«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "This plot, as you can tell from the rumors, is a part of a series of plots and tangentially related to other running Powerplots. While this is not an approval plot, the last one the series is supposed to be. And keep in mind that the armor rules have just changed and we will all try to be cognizant of that when twenty guys open up with assault rifles. So, given all that, I ask for consent to in character actions having in character consequences."

The call goes out from a fixer name of 'Kuryakin.' "Okay, guys. I apologize, I realize this may go against general runner ethics, but I gotta be straight with you. Knight Errant wants to hire some runners to get some stuff back for them. They pay good. But it's Knight Errant. You can do this one of three ways. You can tell me to fuck off, you're not working for the man. You can have me do all the go-betweening for you so you never see a Knight Errant guy. Or you can actually talk to the Knight Errant guy yourselves. Let me know what you wanna do."

«Plot» This is likely a good idea, because the Knight Errant fixer would have had an opticam and various other surrepticious evidence-gathering tools that would have made the meet kind of annoying and given Knight Errant a lot of evidence for later.

To a Fixer, Flint is just the name Sandman and several contact methods. A phone number that changes often, a trix address that changes often as well. When he shows up for work, he is big black bald ork, and not in his usual cowboy outfit. He tries to keep a strong layer of secrecy between himself and anyone he works with and for. To that extent, when the time comes to meet with the go between, he is in his disguise.

To almost everyone Alyse is 'Dr.Al' and nothing more, but that's part of what lets her move around so much. On the surface she's almost completely legit. It restricts some jobs, but only some. Coming to the meet she'll forgo her usual white jacket and pants for something more moddest and simple and her tied back hair is hidden under a simple beanie. Not a complex disguise, but enough that a casual observer wont recognise her.

'Kuryakin' sets up the meet at CHROME, in a standard way. Back room, electronically sealed, neutral ground, no more than a pistol. Kuryakin is blond-haired, blue-eyed, white, not real tall, intense-looking. Dressed in a well-made, well-fit suit, with a dash of high-quality cologne and a pleasant smile. He does have a jack in his head and a chip in it back of his ear - probably the data, info, and expert-system instructions that Knight Errant wants him to follow in the negotiation. Then he takes it out. "Good to see you. So here's the deal. A few nights ago, two Knight Errant patrolmen were knocked out by an ork and an unknown assailant wearing Ruthenium. Their uniforms, badges, weapons, and patrolcar were stolen. They were later used as a disguise to lure in a Mitsuhama courier. After that, they were used to break some prisoners out of a holding cell. Unsurprisingly, KE wants them back. It's 25k for each of you for the uniforms and integral badges. It's an additional 25k for each of you if you can get the vehicle.
«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "If you do a websearch on 'Ilya Kuryakin', the blond man you will see is a close enough depiction."

Flint nods his head slowly. "Any leads on these uniforms and truck? You said it was taken by an ork and someone in a ruth suit, got a photo?"

Alyse nods in agreement with Flint before frowning a little. "I've heard about this. Are they 100% sure there was only two attackers?"

Kuryakin says, "We only have a police sketch from the officers who were attacked. Unsurprisingly, they only saw him for a few moments." When Kuryakin provides the sketch, it's of a pretty classic rough-housing biker-type ork. He's pretty well armored, with a secure jacket, and cyber-armor underneath it (the picture shows bullet-wounds revealing metal.) "They're pretty sure they tagged him about three or four times with their standard sidearms, no real effect. The second assailant was, they believe, a dwarf, but they only saw Ruthenium fringe effects when it shot a taser from down low. No face or body sizes or anything."

Flint looks over the sketch for a moment, frowning. "Well, he could be several people I've met, it's not a great sketch. Any other leads?"

Kuryakin says, "The guys they broke out were a bruiser of an ork named 'Bartaugh," a russian human who didn't give a name and claimed not to speak English, and a troll named 'Reiger.' All SINless."

Alyse shakes her head too and looks back to Flint. "Not a great picture, I can't tell." she says slowly before turning her attention back to the Fixer and thinking for a moment. Has she heard of these prisoners?

«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "On those rolls: When you say 'russian' everyone thinks 'Vory.' A small but scrappy band of russian organized criminals who pop up here in Denver every so often and make a stink substantially larger than their size would indicate; until everyone else gangs up on then and puts them down and they run away. 'Reiger' is supposed to be a big troll with a japanese naginata he stole from the Yakuza."

Alyse whistles lightly and sighs. "Great, so they're busting mob types out. This might make getting the car back a little bit more difficult." she mutters and looks to Flint. "I'm not exactly the best shooter, so a snatch and grab might go astray."

Flint frowns slightly, still thinking on the subject. "Well, you don't want a stand up fight with anyone, too much risk, if you fight, always make sure you have all the advantages. The question is, where can we find these uniforms. The only ideas I have are to advertise a huge price for them and see if they wanna sell them off now that they have used them already and folks are suspicious."

Kurakin says, "One more thing. The two uniforms are for human males, moderate build, five foot ten and five foot eleven. Here's a picture of the original owners of the suit wearing them. When they came to do the prisoner transfer, they were wearing their helmets. Faceguards down." He shows a similar picture, where with the faceguards down you don't get much in the way of features of the impostors, save that they fit the KE-modified Light Security Armor pretty good.

Alyse looks to Flint then to herself and frowns. "Well i'm 5'10ish…but I don't think i'm going to get away with wearing one of those or pretending it's for me." she says with a little frown. "Still, playing to purchase them might be a good idea. It's still going to get us what we want in the end and even if we do buy them, we make a profit.

Kuryakin says, "So, you're interested?"

Flint nods "Yea, we are interested. Can you spread the word that someones looking to buy thos hot uniforms? I figure whoever has them will be willing to get rid of them for a price. Can't be pulling the same trick too many times after all. If the price is reasonable, then we simply pay for them, if they ask to much……well, we setup a meeting and then take them the hard way."

Kuryakin says, "I'm working for KE here. You know that. People have seen them come to me. I'm their go-between. If I could do what you just said, they would have had me do that themselves, right? And besides, I don't link up to the people who have the uniforms, or I would have just done exactly that already and taken the profit."

Flint grunts "We can try on shadowlands and see what happens."

Kuryakin says, "Do you need me for anything else, or is this where I give you my number and say, 'Call me when you got the stuff?'"

Alyse hmms a little and looks to Flint, "I think we're okay for now. We'll give you a call if something changes?"

Flint grunts "Yea, give us a contact number and we will take it from here."

Kuryakin gives you his ever-changing contact info, and disappears into the all-concealing shadows.

GM Note: Chummer's like Teeg are a diamond in the rough, a fixer that's willing to stick his neck out for his runners, go that extra mile, dig around a little and do what he can to keep the teams he finds work for from becoming next weeks special at the local chop shop. This comes from the fact that Teeg used to work the other side of the fence, was once the chummer on the other side of the table, getting paid to do the corps dirty work. He still does in a way, but as time wore on, his connections grew, and his age started to creep up on him, he decided it was time to sit back and pass the work forward. He's also sharp as a tack, extremely resourceful, and always tries to stay one step ahead of the game with connections that tend to give him the heads up on what's going on in the shadows.
Teeg's a human male in his early forties with short blonde hair that's starting to go white at the temples. A well trimmed goatee adorns his friendly face, which is often found wearing a smile. A pair of blue chrome cyber eyes harking' back to his days of runnin' the shadows, something that gives a striking contrast to his otherwise impecible dress and appearance. For all his boyish good looks, a few wrinkles have still managed to creep into his features.

Teeg instantly has the information on Bartaugh and Reiger. "Yeah, you don't know them? I thought you were better informed. Bartaugh that guy, you know, his thing is a clear riot sheild that he can look through, he fires around the edge of it with an SMG, he hangs around Orktown. I hear him and Reiger just got busted out, actually, they got caught drinking SINless uptown. Reiger has this thing, when he needs to sneak his Combat Axe around he hides it in a giant guitar case.. has a real guitar in it too, it's kind of like a magician's case."

Flint grunts faintly "I figured I'd need to look around orktown for the two. I just don't understand why someone would bother busting them out, doesn't make a lot of sense unless they are in tight with someone connected. Thanks for the information, two grand sound fair for the info?"

Nothing is immediately coming back from the posting to Shadowland. Except some wags who offer to outbid you.

Teeg says, "More than fair."

Alyse looks over the information and decides not to come along, "No offense, but i'm kind of noticable and less then popular there. I'll wait at the border or something."

Flint grunts in response to Alyse, then heads into the Big House to talk to Eddy the bartender, see if Eddy knows anything about the two guys in question.

Flint chuckles and nods to Eddy. "Alright, well I'll have to see if I can't catch them there." He drops two hundred to Eddy as a tip, always be generous to bartenders.

«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "Flint has not yet been to a titty bar to look for information."

«Plot» Flint says, "I wish to call in a mage I know who has some experience interrogating folks."
«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "Ah. If you are calling Mister Terrific, he will be a minion and take a fee, like a contact. You are asking him for a specialized skill. Is that what you want?"

Mr.Terrific picks up the phone with the hungry sound of a runner looking for work. "What's the haps?" he answers. Without too much difficulty he sets up a meet with you at a neutral location so as not to transmit insecurely, and you can tell him what you want him to do. (And he'll wave to Alyse, who can link up once the excitement in Orktown at the Big House is done.)

Alyse will meet with Mr.T, but other then that she's staying the hell out of Ork town. She's not suicidal, magic or no magic. Orks are big and most of them seem to have guns.

Flint waits to meet Mr.T at the proper place, and explains his situation. "I got a time sensitive problem here. I'm tracking down two folks, and I'm going to assult them in public. What I need you to do is get some information out of them before the police arrive to pick them up. I'm looking for whomever busted them out with stolen KE uniforms, I'm on a job to pick up those uniforms. I'll cut you in a fair share for your work of course."

Mr.Terrific oos. "Rush job. Are you going to knock them out or will they be conscious? You're talking minutes, here. Not much time to build rapport."
Mr.Terrific says, "And also, is this going to be in public?""

Flint nods. "Exactly, I'll try to take them down and knock the fight out of them, I've got a doc with me that can bring them around. Yes, probably going to happen in public, in a bar. If not the bar, when they leave the bar outside in a nice UCAS B zone. I'll take the heat from KE, I got permits. You can do your thing and then run."

Mr.Terrific says, "Then probably I should see if I can sneak the spell in on them ahead of time, before you trigger the attack. Obviously, I'll be casting it at an illegal Hept rating. Outside is easier for me, I have binoculars. I'm thinking this sounds like a 5k sort of thing. And I adivse you have stimpatches to bring them around."

Flint looks to Alyse "Can you bring them around then when the situation comes up, so they can talk?"

Alyse nods and tilts her head to the side. "I've usually got about four or five patches sitting in my bag just in case anyway. Luck favors the prepared."
Alyse 's not doing much of the talking, but when Mr.T mentions the bino's she gives a little 'hmm' noise. She really should get a pair of those for herself.

Flint nods "Alright then, I guess we are set. We are going to stakeout this bar that they frequent and hope they show up. Give it a day or two and see how it goes."

The two of you haunt Maya Palenque for two days. You take mental pictures of every ork and troll in the place. Every pasty-faced caucasian that might be russian. And while you discover that they have a wonderful mixed grill and these burritos with a mole sauce that are to die for (and the tequila is in fact top shelf) you do not recognize the fellows.

Alyse sighs as that turns to be a bust and shakes her head. "Well this is not going great…" she mutters and goes to make a phone call. She can only hope flint is having better luck then her in ork town.

A few people know 'of' Bartaugh and Reiger. Bartaugh is known as a pretty solid, dependable gunsel, surprisingly quick on the mental uptake. (They don't say, "pretty smart for an ork.") Reiger's a stylish physical adept - stole a magic naginata from the Yakuza, had it for a while until they stole it back from him. But he don't live here.

Keegan says, "Yeah, he was in here the other day. I could tell you what he was in here for, but I think you can guess." She gives you that look that says, 'Cross my palm with a silver credstick if you are stupid and can't guess from what I just told you."

Flint grins "Ahh Keegan, your discretion is legendary." He of course does produce a certified credstick totalling 1k.

Keegan doesn't say 'Duh' out loud, but it's implied. "KE took his tricked out Ingrams, his riot shields, his Exex and his APDS. He wanted a link-up to get re-equipped. He had the money for it socked away, but until the smith-work is done, he's stuck with off-the-shelf, and no APDS." By which point, she means that he'll have Exex. "He said to get it for him down in the Sunrise district. Los Reyes Diablos should know where he's at.

Alyse sits, thanks Chris, and hangs up her phone, another bust. Still eventually something's going to pan out, she only hopes it's sooner rather then later. Back at her apartment she's going to wait for word from Flint.

Flint nods to Keegan "Appreciate the information Keegan." He pats the bar, and then turns to head out, calling Alyse as soon as he is outside, and hidden away somewhere.

«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "To recap, our heroes were hired to recover some stolen Knight Errant uniforms, badges, and gear that have now been used as disguises twice. Once to intercept a Mitsuhama courier, and once to walk a couple of high-end thugs out of a corner lockup. Using the many resources at their disposal, they began tracking said thugs. After many travails, they finally caught word of them being seen down Sunrise way, in the territory of Los Reyes Diablo."
«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "In the WARRENS."

Flint heads to the Sunrise area with Mr.T in tow, probably going to have to pay him hazard pay for this one. Once in the district, he arms himself up for battle, cause that kind of stuff happens here. His clothing switches to an urban camo pattern, and he straps two SMGs to his tactical vest, so they hang down just in reach of his hands. He has some backup pistols, and currently he is loaded with Gel. He also has a few grenades on hand for emergencies. Now, it's time to see how greedy gang members are. He begins to look for a small crew of gangers, the smaller the better.

Alyse 's finally going along beside Flint. A medic's not much use if she's not actually around. Her 'medical bag' slung over her shoulder she'll meet Flint for the crossing unless he wants to go alone specifically. When you're going into a place that easily turns into a warzone, it pays to be standing next to someone bigger then you.

«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "Mr. Terrific is wearing his Secure Jacket (5/3) and his Happy Helmet (+1/+1). He is a shadow. A ghost. He is well back and away. Innocuous, breezy, oh yeah, he has binoculars."

And so it is that they came to the Sunrise District. Quiet, snoozy, with its fair shair of abandoned buildings, tinted glass windows (some shot out and some not shot out) and a good 80% latino presence. "Heya, chica," comes a call from a small group of guys over on a rusted-out car, but it's so perfunctory and lazy that he couldn't even think of a sexual appellation to add to it. And besides, you got a guy with you.
«Plot» Flint says, "How big a group of guys?"
«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "Three. Two young, in their teens, one maybe twenty. Gold chains."
«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "Secure jackets in garish colors."

Flint looks at Alyse. "Let's go chat with these fellas, I'll let you do the talking. We need to find out if our targets are protected here or not, and then ask where they are, rewarding proper information of course. I'll just look menacing."

It's nothing new and it's easily shrugged off. She's hardly going to be offended by someone saying 'Hi' to her without the usual sexual comment. Looking to Flint before they walk over she shrugs. "Alright, but i'm not the greatest fast-talker…"

Flint approaches the group with Alyse, making sure he is just a step behind her and to the side, keeping lines clear if he has to fire on anyone of course. Never know if the guy your talking to has just slotted the latest Action hero sim and thinks he is a bad ass.

The one who cat-called so weakly gives a lopsided smile, like, 'I got it so good I can pull them in even with something like that.' "What brings you here?" he asks, engaging with you. The older one seems to note that medical bag and makes a personal guess, but keeps quiet. (The third one mutters, "Nice legs. What time do they open?" as his personal smooth line, but you'd need enhanced hearing to pick it up.)

Alyse apparently either is just as good to wave off comments like that, or she can't hear it to begin with. Giving that same friendly smile that's not 'flirty' (although they probably wouldn't interpret it that way in all likelyhood). "I'm looking for a couple of friend of mine." she asks casually, "Bigger guys, an ork an a troll who would have arrived here recently. Think you can help me out?"

Person number three, the mumbler-to-himself, opens his mouth then shuts it suddenly, looking guiltily at the others. The one with the beaming smile says, "What'cha gon' do for me? Or us?" he says, under the meaningful glare of the older fellow, who appears to outrank them.

Flint remains quiet and calm, relaxed in fact, he is trusting to the magical energies in his body to deal with this situation if things go south, so for now he isn't too worried. He keeps an eye on the three, as well as occasionaly looking around the area, in case they are attracting anyone else's interest too.

Alyse just keeps that pleasant smile in the place and gives a little shrug, her hands by her side. "Well that entirely depends on how good your information is doesn't it?" she says pleasently. "I'm sure it's worth a few credits or something, no?"

The older fellow cuts to the chase. "Yeah, it is, because the ork and troll have already paid their dues. And you're just walkin' by."

Flint continues to let Alyse take the lead on this, he is just observing at the moment.

Alyse shrugs again and tilts her head. "Then it sounds like all things are right in the world. I'm sure you guys could buy a decent night out with say, a thousand nuyen? And I get to catch up with my friends. No fuss, no mess…"

The shock in their eyes at the number you've quoted indicates that you're probably overpaying, as does the broad smiles which indicate as well that you've probably overpaid so much it doesn't matter. Smoothie says, after a glance around at the other two to make sure they are sympatico, "It sounds good to me, chica." And after the money changes hands, he says, "Two blocks down, take a left half a block, go into the piss-alley. You'll see a building there with all the windows good. That's where they been hanging with the russians."
«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "It does seem as if they paid for 'passage' but not really for 'silence.'"

Flint does not change his neutral expression during the exchange, and waits for the information before nodding to Alyse, and moving to leave with her. He activates his subvocal.

Commlink-Sandman> Flint says, "Can you do an astral recon and get us a headcount?"

Alyse tilts her head to the side, letting that smile get a bit bigger. "Since we're all pretty happy with this, anything you'd be willing to tell me about the people they're hanging out with or the place?" she asks, hoping they're still a little 'wowed' by the money. If not she hands over the credstick and pats the guy on the shoulder before moving off. "You guys have a good time now."
Commlink-Witch-doctor> Alyse says, "I can, but make sure you look out for me. I don't exactly like the idea of 'sleeping' here."

They smile, and actually, without answering you, make themselves scarce. Not wise to stick around after you made a deal. Never know who might be listening. And they already said 'the russians,' which answered your question.

Flint decides the first order of business is to find a hidey hole and do an astral recon. Somewhere he can guard the body while she gets a headcount of the inside of the building with the russians.

Alyse goes along with Flint and makes sure to check the place out fairly well before she does her thing. Taking a moment to simply 'sense' and look around before she slips out of her body she'll make sure it's 'safe' before moving to do her recon, not exactly being fond of the warrens she's hoping it'll all go over with minimal fuss. Magic types are meant to be rare right? She shouldn't find another mage waiting for her there.

Let's just say that the 'piss alley' has an 'interesting' background count on the astral plane. But past it is a building that, strangely enough, is Warded. And that's a big-ass tip-off right there. Outside it is an ork sitting on the stoop messing with something in his hands (technological, it looks mostly like shadows to you), and a big troll playing with a big axe. Looks like he's doing kata or something. You can see their lips move from here, so likely they are having a conversation like something out of Pulp Fiction. The building has a door on the ground floor, and windows.

«Plot After The Fact» We have a lengthy discussion of what Alyse would have to do to break through the ward, get in, and search there. While a good learning experience, she decides it is unwise. What is in the building remains unknown.

Alyse returns to her body unscathed, sitting up and shaking her head before rubbing her eyes. More a habit then something actually required. "Well… The troll's an adept, polearms or something from the looks of it and currently holding a big axe. The other one's wired up to the eyeballs quite literally carrying a gun and a sheild of some sort. I think it it's our guys…but there's another issue. The warehouse they're at has a ward on it, a force 6. Whatever's in there, I couldn't see."

Flint listens to Alyse give her report and he frowns. "No sign of the SUV, so there is no guarantee the uniforms are even inside that warehouse or not. Odds are they are somewhere in the UCAS, not safe to move them cross borders, the car especially. Someone inside there will know where they are though, but I'm not about to assault a warehouse alone for possible information…..I guess we see if we can smoke them out."

Alyse moves behind cover and out of range, but she's still watching as best she can. Already she's mumbling about needing to get herself a pair of binos.

From a good ways away, Mr. T exposes only his binoculars. The deadly sammy is still intent on working with his weapons, and doesn't look up to zero in on him. After his mumbled words are done, he sinks completely behind cover, pondering how to spend his easily-gotten 5k.

Commlink-Mr.Terrific> Mr.Terrific says, "They can speak only the truth. They don't know it. They may figure it out eventually, after they slip some."
Commlink-Mr.Terrific> Mr.Terrific says, "They are able to shut up."

Flint steps out into pissing alley, and starts to walk towards the pair. He won't get too close of course, knowing that the troll with the axe would have to take a few seconds to reach him if things go bad. He does not try to hide, hoping that these guys would talk first instead of just shooting anyone out here.

They seem a little self-absorbed for guys who are 'on guard.' Flint almost has to get their attention. Bartaugh, the ork, is the first to look up, a little startled, and put his hand on the Ingram SMG still in its half-attached holster. Reiger is still dorking around doing katas with his axe until Bartaugh coughs, and he double-takes, then triple-takes when he recognizes not only Flint, but an up-weaponed Flint. "Oh, hey, dude," he says lamely.

Flint nods his head. "I don't want any trouble, all I got are questions. I hear you two got busted out, that was some pretty slick work, that why your babysitting these guys in there?" He gestures with his chin at the building behind them.

Bartaugh gives a nod. "That's part of the deal, yeah. You can assume we're gettin' paid, too."

Meanwhile, non-violently, Reiger draws a flashpack, the kind they sell to grannies, and loops it around his neck but doesn't trigger it.

Flint nods his head "Of course, wouldn't expect anything else from professionals. Those KE suits were a pretty tight score, either of you happen to know where they went?"

Bartaugh stands up and gets to where he could step half-behind the plastcrete cornice. "Exactly where you think it might be, upstairs. Gettin' worked on for the next job. You lookin' to hire it out?"

Flint nods slowly "Maybe, I'm not totally convinced it's still as valuable. KE isn't going to fall for the same trick too often, and it's already been used twice. What's to guarantee my investment pays off?"

Reiger cuts in. "That's up to you. You don't rent the suit, you rent the ops squad. After all, they only fit the guys they're made for. We consult on the op. If you think it ain't gonna go down and it ain't worth your time, you back out. We don't like it, we back out too."

Flint nods "Alright, what kind of time frame do I have available at the moment? I'll need to talk with my partners first. I'm sure you're booked already."

Reiger says, "Just shout out when you're comin' round the corner into the alley. Nothin's happening today."

Flint nods and starts to back up. "I'll be in touch." He walks backwards for most of the alley, till he can get some cover, then tries to get out of sight.

Flint is not attacked on his backout and can link up with Alyse to discuss plans.
«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "And Flint's earlier good deed of letting Reiger the troll go pays off! At least in avoiding violence right here."

«End of Session 2»
After lengthy detective work and wrangling with contacts, our protagonists trailed the missing uniforms into a quiet houseish-business down an alleyway in a fairly lame place in the Warrens. The house is Warded, and out front are an ork name of Bartaugh who specializes in SMGs and a troll-with-pole name of Reiger who is a several-times-initiated physical adept carrying a combat axe. They were slyly questioned under the use of a Compel Truth spell and partially due to it and partially due to Flint's past history with Reiger when he had the drop on him and let him run; our protagonists discovered that the uniforms were for hire for the right job. Obviously, you pitch the job to them, because it's a package deal - you get the muscle, you get the two guys (humans, five foot ten and five foot eleven) that the uniforms fit, you get all the decker support that goes into making it happen, and everyone together makes it happen. With this knowledge, our protagonists safely faded back to consider their next move.

Flint regroups with Alyse, and then speaks quietly to her. "Alright, we have two options. One, we can hire them to do a job and set it up to fail and get caught. Or two, we raid the place and take the uniforms by force. We might be able to hire someone to help us on the force situation."

Sitting and thinking on it Alyse nods and seems to be concidering it over. "Setting it up to fail has it's own risks, and a potential to make some enemies if some of them slip the net…but taking the place by force isn't something you and I can accomplish together easily.

Flint picks up his phone. "Let's see if I can find us some reinforcements."

«Plot» Mr.Terrific imagines the call. "Hey, wanna go shoot some dudes?" "What kinda dudes?" "You know, dudes! You, me, and the population of Murdertown USA."

Stumpy has arrived.

Flint phones up the dwarf he worked with a few days ago. "Hey, care to earn 15k with that shotgun and blade? I promise, I'll take care of all doors this time."

The dwarf has to fumble through a few loose piles of debris before answering the phone. He picks up and listens to the voice on the other line, "Er… okay. Just rememba da number of dat mage dat healed me up, just in case. Tell me where an' I'm there."

Flint chuckles. "I got two healing mages with me today, it's east Aurora, Diablos area. When you get here, hollar out on com channel 385.33"

Stumpy chuckles, "Dat's right down da street. Be there inna jiff." Stumpy hangs up the phone, gathers up his toys, and heads out. After ten minutes of packing and five minutes of riding, he clicks on his comm, "Er… I'm here."

«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "Warning: There will be combat and shootin' because that's what you were hired for. I request the obvious consent."
«Plot» Stumpy says, "I obviously consent."
«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "Oh, are you keeping Mr. Terrific on retainer or something?"
«Plot» Flint says, "Yes"
«Plot» Flint says, "I have two spells for Mr.T to cast"
«Plot» Flint says, "Armor for me and Stumpy!"
Mr.Terrific narrows his eyes at Flint with that, "I don't want to die before I summon my ally spirit" look. "Are you sure?" he asks. "The glow may very well mess with your stealth."
«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "And as was told me, the armor you get from an armor spell can degrade your combat pool." (a Force 6 armor spell will give -3 combat pool to both Flint and Stumpy, it is determined.)

Flint looks to Mr.Terrific. "You can stay back and use your binoculars, this is going to be quick and dirty most likely. Only me and the dwarf are going inside."

Alyse listens as the call is made and sighs. "I'm guessing that you're leaning towards the kick and storm idea?"

Flint nods "Exactly." as he hangs up the phone. "Your job is simple, you smash the ward and then watch for anyone trying to escape. You're not going in."

"And if I -can't- smash the ward on my own?" she points out with a frown. I'm more of a healer then a combat mage…"

Flint frowns and shrugs "If you can't destroy the ward, then we don't get the armor spells. Simple as that."

Mr.Terrific says, "It's a possibility they will make it through the Ward. But it should help you in the fight outside."

Flint shakes his head. "The fight outside is armorless."

Mr. Terrific says "So you guys imagine there's a fight outside, then I come in, armor you, and then you try and get the spells past the ward to go in and clean house?"

Flint points to the dwarf and himself. "We hide in the alley, and then gun down the two guards from a distance. Only one of them has a firearm anyhow. Then, Alyse hits the ward, while we move up to the building. Then, when the ward drops, T armors us up and we break inside."

Alyse looks to Mr.T, shrugging a shoulders. "Would you be able to back me up if the ward is too tough?" she asks slowly. She's already thinking she -really- needs to continue in her studies to get herself some more spells that leave bigger holes in people.

«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "Reiger has a heavy pistol. I'm not claiming that it is a thing of awesomeness in his hands, he just has one."
«Plot» Alyse has one too!
«Plot» It's 2071 and we're Shadowrunners! We've all got heavy pistols! (Shakespeare reference alert!)

Mr.Terrific tells Alyse, "Wards are kind of individual. One person doesn't really open the door for someone else, if I have my theory right."

Stumpy looks up at Flint, "Okay, so last time we kinda jus' winged it. We gotta plan dis time, or is dis anotha smash-n-stab?"

Flint nods to Stumpy. "You make holes in walls and doors with your shock lock, I toss in a grenade, then we move in after the blast clears the room."

Flint says, "No one's going to claymore a wall."

Stumpy holds up his shotgun, "Dis is for doors," He puts it back and pulls out his sword, "Dis is for walls."

Flint nods "Ok then, that works too."

Flint nods "Ok, so everyone understand the plan? We go in, we dont give them time to escape. I'd also love it if our mages could keep an eye on those windows, in case someone tries to jump out and escape."

Stumpy nods to Flint.

«Plot» The use of Spells against Wards is discussed. I reserve the right to use a simple form of spells vs wards in astral combat. Since it's a 50-50 chance when you use a Force 6 spell against a F6 Ward and the spell can't use karma, we will just roll a 50-50 chance to avoid unexciting spam.

Flint takes a few moments, switching out his clips of SMG ammo with some with red tape on them.

Alyse too packs her handgun, just in case. The heavy pistol loaded with a normal looking magazine of some less impressive ExEx rounds, just in case.

Stumpy is already in his gear, but double checks. Helment, yup. Camo suit, got it. Shotgun, oh yeah. Bag of goodies, ready to go. Sword, of course. This ugly little fellow is packed and ready.

Having set up their plan - pretty much Stumpy and Flint sneaking up on Bartaugh and Reiger - Mr. T ready to cast Armor when they are done and take their money and Alyse ready to take down the Ward for her own entry as well as watching all possible other exits in case other people get clever.. they approach. The house-business structure, a two-story kind of thing, is down an alley in sunrise referred to as 'the pissing alley' for obvious reasons. There's a concrete stoop with steps, there's mirrored windows, the place looks in fairly good shape. And Alyse has told you that there's a reasonably solid Ward on the place.
When last seen, Bartaugh and Reiger were at the concrete front stoop. They were kind of taken by surprise last time. Are they more alert now? We'll find out!

Flint moves against his cover, then raises his SMGs. He spots the look for his target, that knowing in the man's eyes as he realizes something is up, but it is far too late. Flint holds down the triggers and each one of his SMG's spews out armor piercing rounds. They take the ork squarely, riddling him. The lights start to go out of the ork's eyes before all the bullets have finished hitting him, and he falls backwards with blood spilling from all the many holes in his body.

Stumpy sees the shadowy figure at the end of the alley way turn to spot him. As he tenses up with fear, he jumps as Frost's full auto rings out above him. In a hurry, he sets the zoom on his goggles crank to maximum and points at the largest target available. His cyberarm vibrates his shoulder in a very uncomfortable way, as his deafening shotgun rings out two full burst at the large dark shadows. Red flashes out of the troll as he crumples to the ground, and stumpy is shaking in panic.

Flint steps out of his cover and starts sprinting for the building. He isn't going to rush the door, but he wants to get against the wall where they can't shoot him from a window. He moves fairly fast for a big guy.

They say the AK-98 has a distinctive chattering noise when fired at you. Flint has learned what it sounds like, and what it feels like too when the explosive bullets do exactly as they are advertised. Still, it isn't the first time he's been shot up and likely not the last.

Stumpy watches as Flint is gunned down just steps ahead of him… okay maybe just a bit further up. He slams back his left hand, forcing his shotgun to whip up and around, and catches it in his right cyberarm. He skids to a stop as he points up at the gun man. BLAMBLAMBLAM, his Black Panther unloads three very expensive rounds of APDS into the slit of the open window. The man with the gun is gone, and the gun wobbles to point uselessly up at the sky.

Flint stalks forward, some blood leaking out of his body, smearing on his clothes. His SMGs are up and ready. "Give up the KE uniforms, and no one else has to die….you got until we reach the building. You are in fact surrounded."

Stumpy looks a bit concerned, and hustles to get behind Flint and match pace with the heavily bleeding ork. He has his shotgun raised, and his zoom at maximum looking at the window.

It's really not a matter of 'stealth.' Either the door is closed or it is open. It opens, in plain sight, revealing stairs up to the second floor, and perhaps an alcove. (It's like one of those houses where the front door leads to the ground floor and the back door leads to the second floor.) And after a telling moment, eeeeeeeEEEEEEEEE! Zoom! A guy comes out, in underclothing, riding on a Dodge Scooter. With an AK-98 strapped to his back.
He is russian. Blond hair, blue eyes. five foot ten.
This is one of those electric scooters that you can put in the trunk of a normal car.

Alyse spots the guy zipping out the back and frowns. She's here to make sure people don't sneak out the back and she's sure as hell not going to get beaten by someone on a little electric scooter. With a little flick of her hand the man is suddenly yanked hard off his bike like he'd been snared by an invisible lasso. Spinning dizzyingly and crossing 14 meters in an instant she slams him hard into the ground, intending to either knock the guy out or stun him a little.

He fires wildly as he spins through three dimensions, his scooter sailing off crazily until it hits a wall. It really should burst into flames but it's too cheesy for that. The closest a bullet comes is about twenty meters from Alyse while she bounces him off walls. He has no armor of any kind for reasons which will soon become clear, and by the time Flint and Stumpy come by to see what's going on with gunshots back there, the man is unconsciously subdued.
«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "We are now out of combat and in an investigatory mode."

Flint groans faintly, and nods "Good job. Keep him handy, we can ask him where the patrol car is. Let's check the building now….carefully, they may have set up explosives, hence my need for the armor."

Stumpy nods to Flint, "And, we are still going through da walls." Stumpy moves up to the buildling, and begins working on slicing open a new door.

Alyse doesn't even have the classic hand raised as she plays TK tennis with the guy between the walls and the ground. Eventually as he's knocked out she keeps the man floating limp, only her focus on him showing what she's doing and she smiles at the pair as they come around to check on him. "Thank you," the doctor says with a simple smile.

Flint works with Stumpy to search the building for anything of value. Cutting holes in walls instead of opening any closed doors, open doors are fine.

They have set up locks, and tripwire alarms with ultrasound and laser eyes, but no explosives. But there are yet questions to be answered. Like why would this fellow ever dare come out of the building with no armor? Moving carefully, glowing, checking every corner (Stumpy has to deactivate his weapon focus to go through the ward, that or hack through) the Armor spells take some doing.

«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "Actually there is one thing: Reiger the troll. He is at D+M, which is very survivable for a body 12 troll. Save him, let him die?" (The essence of character is decision making. Flint and Stumpy discuss it - witnesses versus putting down a downed troll.

The bottom floor looks to be the living area. Troll-sized army cot, ork-sized army cot, living space for a few russians, pocsecs, your basic weapons (AK-98 with gas-vent 3, bipod, and shoulder brace, several of them, a decent quantity of ExEx ammo for it and for their Browning Ultra-Powers in their concealable holsters). The troll had a Combat Axe, non-magical, and a big Predator. The Ork had a large riot shield with a crafted quickdraw holster for an SMG, but his SMG was a stock Ingram. That's the bottom floor. The top floor is the techster's heaven, full of odd machinery that perhaps only Alyse, your actual doctor, will recognize. One of the KE uniforms is on the dead russian, shot through the heart APDS-style. The other KE uniform is stuck up in the machine labeled 'Scanning Tomography Emitter." That's why the guy ran out with no clothes on. That, and a cyberterminal, a turtle, with a chat window open, going, "Guys? What's going on? Guys?"

Flint sits down at the terminal, and cracks his fingers. «Someone tried to raid the place, we got them, going to have to move, someone's onto us.»

The chat window says, "Zdrastivootie?"

Stumpy looks at the screen and over to Flint, "You know russian?"

«Plot» Flint desperately gets his pocsec to translate for him - fast enough that it doesn't seem suspicious.
«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "He said, 'Hello?' in Russian, and is clearly testing you, to see if you can answer russian back. What say you next, as you desperately translate and hope it comes up with something decent, in Russian?"

«Plot» Alyse examines the machine with her actually appropriate skills.

While strange characters are coming through on the chat screen, Alyse checks out the machine. A 'Scanning Tomography Emitter' used to be used to look at very small things, but now it is used in active nanotechnology. The thing is, that there's no 'person' here to do nanotech on, right? They're doing nanotech, moving individual molecules around, ON THE SUIT. They must be doing it to alter the codes that Knight Errant puts in the actual weave of the suit at a molecular level. And once Alyse knows that, it's a simple thing to see that there's a fiber-optic wire going to the dumb cyberterminal.. ie, whoever you are talking to on the chat window is the person who is running the Scanning Tomography Emitter to change the codes.
Alyse explains what she knows about the suit and the machine before looking to the computer and frowning. "It might be worth trying to find out where they are, or at least copy from this computer to get a backtrace. Then KE can do the rest."

Flint grumbles, transalates as fast as he can, and replies, in russian. «How long do you need before we can move?»

The Scanning Tomography Emitter's hum dies down, and the lights on it start blinking and slowing. The chat window says, "It takes ten minutes to shut down. I'll call the crew to bring the tractor-trailer for it and the rest of the gear. You'll be ready?"
It sticks to russian, giving Flint's finges a workout on his pocsec keyboard. He's fortunate to have found a site that translates in characters he can type on the dumb cyberterminal keyboard.

Flint replies into the terminal, in russian. «Yes, the troll and ork got wounded, but it's nothing serious. Where are we moving to?»

The chat window says: 216.71.126:45:56:67.
(Obviously he's giving you a matrix address.)

Flint frowns, and disconnects. "Well, not a good chance of getting the car right now. I think I tipped them off, he stopped talking and ask for a matrix meeting. Let's just loot the place and get out of here."

Stumpy is standing there with armloads full of guns, stuffing what he can into his already full dufflebag, "I kinda figured. You got somethin else I can shove this stuff into?"

You have the uniforms. You have gear. You have the makings of a Firearms B/R kit. You have a Cyberterminal Turtle style. The Scanning Tomography Emitter is about 800 lbs. do you want to levitate it away?

Alyse frowns a little and tilts her head to the side. "I know a decker who might be willing to help us out. We should probably get KE to come here to watch for when they come to pick this thing up.

Stumpy gives Alyse a pained look, "Really? Can't we jus' leave? We killed da goons, got the clothes, not to mention cool toys. I don' wanna get shot up like Sandman. C'mon. Tell me where the evack vehicle is, so I can go load some of dis stuff up."

«Plot» Alyse says, "Right….well they decide, I might heal up flint >.>"

Flint shakes his head. "Scrap the emitter, if I tipped them off, they will be heading here with reinforcements. Let's patch me up and get out of here. KE is just going to have to deal with our hostage themselves to find the car."

Alyse nods and tilts her head to the side. "So trash the machine, take the unconcious russian and get out of here?"

Stumpy and Flint crawl through the house, carrying out armloads of KE equipment and placing it carefully outside. Finding some lighter fluid for barbecues, the two pour the fuel througout the house. Walking outside, one of them flips a lit match through the open doorway, causing the pool of gasoline to burst in a bright blue and red flame, then with a rush, spread across the interior of the door. Very quickly, smoke begins pouring out of the building. While the car is being loaded up, Stumpy wanders over to the troll, and bends down whispering into the trog's ear, "Nuthin' personal," as he slides his sword smoothly through the back of the troll's neck. Stumpy reaches down and picks up the Troll's ax, and walks back to escape with the others.

«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "You run like hell with your stuff. Do you want to take the time to have Mr. T question your unconscious hostage, or do you want to kill him or let him live?"
«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "Or cart his body around, make him do a little dance, I don't know."
«Plot» It is decided that they will anonymously turn over the unconscious Russian to Knight Errant, through their fixer.

«Plot» Since Flint is an adept, Alyse casually heals him to full with a F6 Serious healing spell in a combination of magical awesomeness.

«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "So it is written, so it is done. The Russians will be here long after you leave, and Knight Errant will be here well after the Russians leave - but they will have one of the two people who worked with their suit, and that will make them very pleased. Kuryakin, your fixer who agreed with you specifically to shield you from ever personally seeing the KE guys, might even get a bonus. As for you, you get exactly what's coming to you. And everything you picked up along the way."
