To Steal a Kiss

GM: Air
Players: Haken, Melani
Synopsis: Runners attempt to steal a cargo.
Date: Mon Nov 29 2070

So, the word is placed into the fixer market of Denver, that a reliable if somewhat low-working Johnson has a small job perfect for a rigger or two. The offered pay is low, twenty kay for the whole job, so obviously the intended respondants aren't meant to be high fliers. There is an address listed, a location within the Rez area of the Warrens, and useful fixers will be passing this along to their aptly skilled shadowrunner associates.
«Plot» Air says, "The location is a warehouse, somewhat abandoned."

Melani responded, after all, that was right up her alley. The black Bulldog taken to a meet, granted this was the warrens. So she kept the pump shotgun on her even as she went to the warhouse meeting place.

After hearing about the chance for some cred, Haken loads most of his gear into his Ares Road Master and head to the meet. He parks a few blocks away and sends in a drone to scout the warehouse.

«Plot» Haken says, "Nissan Roto drone Sensor 1 and a laser mic."

The warehouse is one of the many relatively squat buildings in the Warrens. The front doors are ruined, one hanging by a single hinge, while the other flaps open and shut. Oddly enough, the floor is covered in a layer of undisturbed dust, as if nobody dares head into and out of this place. The rest of the warehouse is in similar state of disrepair, with holes showing spotty in the roof and many of the interior floors having fallen in with the years of rot.

"Great, reminds me of fooking home." Her boots kicked up the dust as she took a much less cautious approach to the meeting point.

«Plot» Haken says, " In that case a send up all the drones in patrol mode. Park the van, Grab both of my pistols and head into the warehouse. I also bring a box to sit on."

Haken walks into the warehouse and glances around. "This is the part I always hate." he says to himself. He makes sure his Ares Pred and hold out pistols are sitting just how he likes then and finds a place to set up his box and has a seat.

Inside the dusty warehouse, made worse by Melani's kicking boots the Dwarf can quickly spot a couple of warm bodies up ahead. One brighter and hotter than the other, also stands taller in the centre of the warehouse's main room. To more normal eyed folks, the figures will be much harder to make out until closer, thanks to the murk.

Apparently the taller man has no such trouble, as he waves a hand beckoning and speaks up in a loud, falsely amplified voice, "Please, approach."

Melani cracked her neck, prolly one of those stupid knife ears. Still jobs are money. So the short one continued forward, almost calmly.

"Well, here we go." Haken thinks, noticing the Johnson and the dwarf. He gets up off his box and walk over to the meet with and even gate. "Don't let anyone thing you're nervous"

Haken approaches the Johnson. He gives a slight bow and says, "Good day." He scans the Johnson and his men up and down. Looking for any bulges indicating weapons just to get an idea of what they might have.

Melani noted more than one person, so her hands raised in front of her, away from her weapon. "Oiy, word on the street is your looking for some people."

Upon more intimate inspection, the figures resolve into… well, two figures. The taller of the pair is dressed in what is quite obviously a corporate style of body armour. Complete body protection, including helmet with darkened face visor. The man stood alongside turns out to be an ork, wearing a patch together of armour, a bandolier full of ammunition and grenades, and with an Ares Alpha slung across his chest. It seems the corporate 'suit' is the one talking as he lowers his hand. "Thank you for attending." The Johnson himself wears, quite openly, a heavy pistol at his waist. The helmet nods forwards after Melani speaks, "That is correct. I'm offering twenty thousand, total, for a simple theft."

Melani says "Well then, what are you looking to get your hands on?"

Haken looks at Melani as she speaks and then nods in agreement.

Air nods, "A shipment of vehicle parts destined for a vehicle plant located near Castle Rock. I require the contents of that vehicle. If you're happy to accept the job on these terms, then we can talk more detail."

Melani cracked her neck. "I could hear some more." Then she looked to the nip next to her, waiting for his consent or not.

The patchwork ork bodyguard grunts at the responses of the shadowrunners. His eyes burn holes into them as they talk— which is probably a welcome act considering the dingy environment.

Haken gets and idea that he might be able to squeeze a bit more cred out of this. He whips up a story for the Johnson. "Yeah I know about these smash and grab jobs. We can make this happen." Haken says. "But they never go quite as simple as the plan. Last time I lost two drones." he lies "Think you can sweeten the deal a bit?"

«Plot» Haken says, "plot Haken rolls his haggle skill TN 8"

«Auto-Judge[]» Haken (#11213) rolls 3 vs TN 8:

The helmetted head turns slightly, and inclines downwards to look at Melani and then nods. Then he turns to Haken and is silent for a moment. "You lost two drones? I would suggest then, perhaps don't use drones? PErsonally I feel that ten thousand is quite fair. If you run into anything particularly devestating, I will be willing," his tone of voice makes it clear that this is his limit though, "to neogtiate a little afterwards."

Haken is very pleased with himself for even getting that and nods in agreement "That will be more than fair sir." and ends his negotiations.

Melani gave a little shrug, looking back to the J. "Seems a little light on manpower for a grab, you not expecting much defenses?"

Air nods, "If either of you require, you can use the ten thousand as credit with me and my organisation. Or can take the money in certified cred. It will be provided upon receipt of the goods." He clears his throat with a quiet ahem and continues, "Now, the vehicle should be leaving from the warehouse in Denver at 0830 hours tomorrow. It will be heading south to Castle Rock, and then a short way to the vehicle facility there. It is a solid chassis truck, with a two ton carrying capacity. I wish to have at least a significant amount of that cargo. If not all of it, then at least most of it. The vehicle should be alone, it's not a high priority or secure cargo, there should be no worry beyond standard law enforcement response."

Melani says "Shouldn't be to hard then, I'm in. Certified credit on delivery acceptable?"

Begining to formulate a plan, Haken asks "Are we to know the nature of the cargo? I don't need the exact details. Is it delicate, explosive? Are there any special circumstances that we need to be made aware of?"

Air shakes his head in response to Haken, "It is not particularly anything but inanimate. It is somewhat fragile, but even so, it will be correctly packed, I have no doubt. These are vehicle parts we're talking about."

Melani says "Delivery point?"

Air says "Delivery will be taken next to the Bastille, in the Rez."

Melani says "Then I better get to work."

Haken says "Do you have a number that you can be reached at?"

Air shakes his head, "No, I can be of no help during the job. I will be awaiting your arrival at the Bastille."

Haken says "Understood. We'll see you there."
Haken gives a slight bow, turns, and walks back toward his vehicle.

Air nods at last, and he and his bodyguard simply wait in position, silently.

Melani cracked her neck, giving the J a wink before she started back for her van as well. "You grabbin Nip, or am I? I'm a control girl so don't know what much I can do ground side."

Air and his bodyguard head out the other way, climbing into a rather well appointed Land Rover 2046 model, and drive off.

Haken says "Suddenly I'm reminded why we kicked out choob's like you. Get serious or buzz."

Melani cracked her neck to the other side. "I'm gonna take that as you don't have a plan? Or do ya?

Haken says "Not yet. What kinda gear you working with?"

Melani says "As I said, I run control. C3ISTAR, means I get to play god. What I'd say is I can provide overwatch, give you pathing. You drop a bit of spikes in front of our target. When the fookin's driver gets out to change the tire, you let him, then knock him out. Grab the truck, and I'll path you out."

Melani pages: I think it's a pretty good plan outside of runflats.

Haken says "Ha. Exactly what I was thinking. Who'd a thought dwarf could ever think like a Nip?"

Melani says "It's nice to see ya fooks finally getting smart. Let's go then."

Haken says "You got a way for me to contact you?"

Melani says "Cellphone, harder to jam if we run into problems."

Haken says with a smirk. "I guess that will have to do."

«Plot» Haken says, "Haken exchanges numbers with Melani."

Melani achieved van, cracking her neck as she began to clamber into the non dwarf modded Bulldog. "Right, I'll meet you on point six o'clock tomorrow."

Haken says "See yah then."

«Plot» Air says, "Alright. You head home, state any plans you make overnight in plot. Otherwise, it's morning, go go go."
«Plot» Melani says, " I am going to give a call to Jean Valjean, my chopshop contact, but only because I am assuming we are going to have to get rid of the Duece and a Half after this."
«Plot» Air says, "Alright, roll etiquette at 4 and pose your conversation. Any successes and he's ok with it, no successes and he tells you to sling your hook."

Melani flipped out her phone, on the way home, dialing in a few numbers. "Hey! Jean, it's Mel. Look, I might have a hot truck for you come tomorrow. No charge, you interested in taking it apart?"

«Auto-Judge[]» Melani (#11271) rolls Negotiation vs TN 6 for "Defaulting to negot from etiquette.":
2 2 11 = 1 Success

The extremely well named Jean Valjean comes back with an easy smile. It's so easy, it even comes through in his tone of voice, "Sure, darling, sure. Bring it along any time."

Melani nodded. "Oiy, see you tomorrow then if it comes through."

«Plot» Haken says, "I call my fixer Charlie. "Hey Charlie, it's Haken." I say. "I am going to need a remote operated spike strip."

«Plot» Air assigns avail at 5. Roll Etiquette.

«Auto-Judge[]» Haken (#11213) rolls 3 vs TN 5:
4 4 7 = 1 Success

Charlie comes back to Haken gruffly, "Yeah, I can get it, but it's gunna cost ya, fifteen hundred on delivery. Scan?"

Haken winces when he hears the price. "Ouch, at least buy me a drink first!" Haken jokes. "When can you have it by?" he asks.

"Eight am tomorrow, an' you can collect it too."

Haken says "Done. See you in the morning."

Charlie hangs up with barely a goodbye and thanks for your business.

«Plot» Air says, "Alrighty, so you got a spot to chop the van, and you got a spike strip waiting for you at 8am at Charlies place."
«Plot» Air says, "Pose ahead."
«Plot» Haken says, "I then go to a tire shop and buy 2 tires that will fit the truck."
«Plot» Air says, "Ok, how do you know what tires will fit it?"
«Plot» Haken says, "I roll my car B/R to figure out what kind of tires the truck will most likely need."

«Auto-Judge[]» Haken (#11213) rolls Car B/R:
2 5 5 21

«Plot» Air says, "Alright, you know plenty about trucks. You know that each separate brand has a different hub, so no one tire will fit any brand. And you don't know what model the truck is."

«Plot» Haken says, "After realizing that I need to know the specific truck model, I head over to the warehouse and park somewhere out of the way. I launch a drone and inspect the loading dock of the warehouse."

«Plot» Air says, "Ok, the warehouse is a sealed thing, do you have a drone small enough to slip in somewhere? Otherwise you'll be trying to peer in through a window."

«Plot» Air says, "Roll whatever perception you get through the drone."

«Auto-Judge[]» Haken (#11213) rolls Intelligence:
3 3 3 5 9

«Plot» Air says, "Alright you spot their Nissan brand of truck. And no, this place is shut overnight."
«Plot» Haken says, " I recall my drone and head back."
«Plot» Air nods, "A pair of tires are gonna run 200 nuyen. Taking your total to 1700 spent up to now."
«Plot» Haken says, " Done."

Melani was already in posistion, bright and early, sipping her coffee in the back of her van. Airborne and ready as the leader cable came down from the back of her neck to the RC deck in front of her.

«Plot» Melani says, "Subscriber list is my Condor LDSD-41, and both my Strato-9s, all of them are equiped with RC encryption 6, autosoft interp 2, and I'm running clearishgt 2 on them via my RC."

«Plot» Melani says, "Time to observe a van."

«Plot» Haken says, "I arrive at 8 am sharp to pick up the spike strip. Then its off to a tire shop to get the wheels and tires. I double check my gear and find a spot along the route that will work for me."

«Plot» Air says, "Haken, you're going to be late to catch the van, basically, because of having to pick up the spike strip and the tires. You can figure that out."

«Plot» Air notes for the log that Adam and Air will be along the route somewhere, unknown to the runners. Observing.

After picking up the tires, Haken calls Melani and finds out where the vehicle is. He then hauls hoop to a point ahead of the target vehicle.

Melani pages: Do I have eyes on target?
You paged Melani with 'The van leaves right on time and turns to head south. As expected.'.

Melani answered her phone with a click. "Go ahead ground, this is control. Target is currently heading southbound on I-15, green Nissan Forager, license plate Xylophone, Three, Three Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo. Speed steady at thirty miles per hour, what is your posistion ground?"

Haken says "I am just leaving the tire shop now. Heading to I-15. I'll keep you posted on my position."

Melani cracked her neck idly, a mental command to send one of her Strato's to intercept Haken. "Set up well after the border checkpoint. Military doesn't play nice ground."

«Plot» Air says, "How close are you following Mel?"
«Plot» Melani says, "Safe distance, I only have my Blimpy following, so prolly pretty high. Strato's are my reserve, and everything will pull away at the border checkpoint just to be safe, and pick up on the other side."
«Plot» Air says, "Also, roll int."

«Plot» Air says, "Ok, you notice the truck is a drone, by the way. The van you're trying to stop, no crew cab. Also, your blimp gets a fly by from a strato-9."

«Auto-Judge[]» Air (#8050) rolls 1 for "Dice of Mystery.":

Melani grunted a little. "Ground, this is control, target is drone, I say again target is a drone, adjust accordingly. Looks like I picked up some company from the border checkpoint, three minuites while I switch survailance, stay alert." Another mental command and she started pulling the condor away, while sending her second strato to catch the van from the other side of the checkpoint. "Follow me tinkerbell, keep watching the drone."
«OOC» Melani says, "Drone=blimp."

Melani waited for re-established contact via her own strato down the way, before sending the condor to skirt the checkpoint to get around. Another sip of coffee taken. "Fooking Lone Star."

As Melani gets up to the checkpoint a border guard approaches her window and raps on it to wake up the dreaming rigger. Once the window is drawn down he languidly speaks, "Good morning citizen. Credstick with identification please."

Haken speeds down I-15. He hopes that he will be able to make it to the interception in time. His heart drops as he approaches the border crossing and finds himself in the bak of a large line of vehicles.

Melani simply rolled down her window with a smile, holding out a credstick to the officer. "Here ya go. Hey I'm going out sightseeing, heard some of the parks were really nice oot here, you got any suggestions?"

The border guard slots Melani's credstick and glances at his machine as he shakes his head. "Not paid to be tourist information. Check Castle Rock, I'm sure they have a tourism office." Then he falls silent as his machine ticks through. Shortly, Melani's SIN is passed and he pulls it and hands it back, "You have a -great- day now."

"You too, or as much as you can have one at work eh?" And she gave a little wave before moving through.

«Plot» Air says, "Alright, Melani is free to drive on, Haken has an approximate 20 minute wait before he gets seen by a guard. Pose on."

And finally it seems forever that Haken gets to the front of his queue, and the guard approaches his car window, repeating what the other did with Melani, rapping on the window unless it's already down, requesting ID in a bored voice.

Haken rolls down his window as the guard approaches. When asked for ID Haken provides it. "How are you today officer?" he asks.

The guard scowls back at Haken, thankfully in his job he isn't particularly required to be nice. Slotting the stick he runs it with a grunt, "Same drek, different day, citizen." The scanner bleep bleeps, and then the guard is handing it back to
Haken, "Enjoy your trip into the Cass." And he's waving Haken on.

Melani says "Ground, this is control, we're gonna be running a little short on time here soon."

Melani pages: How much time do I have before Target is just lost. IE: Until it reaches a point I can't dafely disable it?
You paged Melani with 'You've got a decent length of highway here now.'.

"Thanks." Haken says and drives on. relieved to be out of there. He puts in a call to Melani after he gets through the checkpoint.

Melani says "Go ahead ground. Target is still on visual, but it would be nice if you could hurry up."

Haken says "I'm through the checkpoint now. How far am I from the target?"

«Plot» Air says, "Gime an int roll each, this is for common sense, general knowledge, etc."

You paged Melani with 'You could play with the drone by driving on autonav and being slow in front of it.'.
You paged Melani with 'Assuming it's on gridguide.'.
Melani pages: Assuming it doesn't change lanes, it's been one of my options. Just was unsure of it working.

Melani cracked her neck. "Your a good bit of miles back ground. I'm Going to go slow it down." And with that she sped up her gas powered vehicle, to get ahead of the drone truck.

Haken says "Roger that. I'm going to speed up and try to get ahead."

«Plot» Air says, "Options, hit the speed limit and hope, speed, and catch up quicker, run the risk of the popo."
«Plot» Haken says, "Speed. 20 kph over the limit."
«Plot» Melani says, "I'm just going to try and get in front of drone truck, then drive like air's grandmom."
«Plot» Air says, "Alright, Melani is playing with slowing the drone down, and Haken is speeding to catch up."
«Plot» Air says, "Melani: Roll car at TN 6. Haken, well, you just hope."

«Plot» Air says, "You fail to convince your autonav to slow down in the highway."
«Plot» Air says, "Yep, the drone pulls out around you and overtakes when you slow down too much."

Melani cursed as the van passed, growling a little bit into her phone. "Ground, this is control. This things exit isn't very far off. If you ain't in posistion by then, I'm calling abort. Over."

Haken hears Melani as he begins to pass the target vehicle while speeding down I-15. "How far from the targets final destination are we?" he asks, hoping that he can somehow still salvage this thing.

Melani pages: How far are we from the point of no return? <.< >.>

You paged Melani with 'You've been driving for about 20 minutes, at the speed limit, you've probably got, 40 minutes before it's getting near to Castle rock.'.

You paged Melani with 'This would be a perfect time, since the ground around is farmland and otherwise dead ground, if Haken could catch up.'.

«Plot» Air says, "Int roll from Melani if she wants some GM suggested rigger ideas she might come up with."

Melani pages: And there is noone else on the road?

«Auto-Judge[]» Melani (#11271) rolls Intelligence:
1 2 3 4 5 5 5 10

«Plot» Air says, "Well, a good shot from a drone would take out a tire, or you could ruin the engine. That would slow it down. Of course, there are other drivers on the road. Mostly heading northbound towards Denver though."
«Plot» Air says, "And there might be emergency features in the van to deal with problems like that too."
«Plot» Air says, "You could put your van on gridguide in front of it and wrestle the autonav to slow down, thereby the gridguide would tell the drone van to slow down too."

«Plot» Air says, "Haken has approximately ten minutes to catch up, at his speed."

«Auto-Judge[]» Air (#8050) rolls 1 for "1 or 2 is bad.":

Haken gets an idea and picks up his com. "Control, this is ground. I don't think I'm going to make it in time to get up in front of it. We are going to have to box it in, I'll pull up next to it, you get in front, on three we both slow down and bring it to a stop." he says.

Melani growled again, looking to her side. "Damn Fookin' Nip, can't run on time, worse than trains." And with that, she disconnected herself from her RC deck for the moment, letting her drones go dog brained. Pulling the leader cable from behind her to jack into the Bulldog. She increased her speed a little, grid-guide wouldn't let that drone van go over the speed limit, and she only needed to keep it from passing her for a few more seconds.

«Auto-Judge[]» Air (#8050) rolls 1 for "1-2 is a complication.":
1

As Haken is pulling up behind the drone van, which Melani is currently hovering around in front of, he notes a complication: there is a civilian holding in at about the speed limit behind the van. Plain black Americar, he doesn't look eager to be overtaking either.

Haken punches his steering wheel in frustration. "Control this is ground. We have another problem. There's a slmo behind the target. I am going to move over a lane and get ahead a bit. I want you to slow down and get it to pass." he says quickley. "Then speed back up and ill slow down and we'll get it pulled off into the center divide. Yah scan there stuntie?" he adds.

In the meantime, Air and Adam cruise along in their Land Rover, keeping an eye on their prospects and how they handle things, chatting idly about this and that. The tan van doesn't really garner much attention, looking like a typical four wheel drive.

Melani just sighed, and hard breaker, ok time for that drone to start passing her, or the americar to rear end the drone…either one would work.

The drone smoothly moves out into the open lane and pulls past Melani at the speed limit. Once past her it slides back into the left lane.
The Americar does a similar move, pulling out into the open lane as Melani closes from the front, so it seems it is also on autonav.

Melani saw that one coming. Autopilots are fun. She waited until the drone vehicle had just began to pass on her left, then angled her Bulldog to give it a little tap right behind the rear tire. If all worked well, the van would spin out through her lane, go off the road, and loose connection to grid guide. And a spooked Americar driver, or one asleep for his communte would just pass on by.

«Plot» Haken says, "Jacks into his van in preparation."

Melani times herself just right, turning in, clipping the van right behind the tire. A solid enough touch to bend it off it's lane, and too much for it to compensate for before the front wheels hit grass and it spins off. The autonav manages to perform admirably in the crash however, preventing the van from flipping. Of course, it's now off the road so it simply comes ot a controlled halt.

Melani says "Ground, this is control, get that Americar out of here, I'm going to need five minuites."

The Americar is doing admirably at that job itself, it simply pulls into the left lane and trundles off at the speed limit.

Seeing that the Americar has kept going, Haken pulls over and parks his van in front of the target. He jumps out and runs over to the van. He looks for a way to either enter the van or jack into it.

Melani pulled over as well, dejacking as she grabbed a chip from her glove box. Heading for the off the road van.

Melani stopped, looking to Haken. "You or me? I can try to put it on my drone list and drive it out."

Haken says "Let's just get these open first. Then we can worry about who takes what."

Melani nodded, settling down with her toolkit, trying to keep this thing going at a good pace.

It takes approximately a minute for each runner to find a hatch they think is worth their attention opening. Then, both begin to feverishly work on opening said hatches. Within minutes the locks cases are both off, revealing plenty of inner electronics, unfortunately however, shortly after that the van's engine rumbles into life. With the wheels turning it pulls off slowly, heading over towards the road on which it was travelling before, leaving the runners with no chance to hotwire the locks open. Unless they catch it again, at least.

As the van starts, Haken pulls out his Ares Pred and aims a shot at one of the tires.

The runners have 18 minutes until LoneStar arrives in drone form since the rigger alerted the police.

The van with the now rapidly deflating tire makes it back to the road, just, and then parks sedately on the verge, maybe thirty feet away from the runners. The tire now totally flat.

Melani growled a little. "Less time….fook. Get a move on Nip." And with that she was moving back to the van, think Mel, think.

Haken follows her lead. "Nice pile of drek I've gotten us into." he thinks to himself.

«Plot» Haken says, "How is the cargo area locked?"
«Plot» LogBot says, "Same sort of lock as the hatches."

A tan coloured land rover van drives past on the road, and on the opposite side of the road, plenty of different vehicles buzz past.

"Fook this, firearms in play…damnit. Fookin make a decision, open it and transfer or drone it and change the fookin tire?" She looked to Haken.

Haken runs up to the now disabled van. "Why me?!" he shouts as he approaches the van. He heads back to 'his' panel and goes to work trying to jack into the vehicle. "25th times the charm.' he says sarcastically.

Melani says "Fook, fook, fook. Fook!"

Haken says "Open and transfer."

Haken says "Stay calm. the worst case scenario we die. It doesn't look like yah have much to live for anyways, now try to get the back door open while I try to jack in."

Melani shook her head, moving back to her van to back it up to the drone van. Nothing to see here, just some maintnance people working on a blown tired van.

«Auto-Judge[]» Haken (#11213) rolls Electronics vs TN 6:
3 4 = 0 Successes

Melani then she just growled, running through her options. "I need to get back to overwatch. Two vehicles here is suspicious. And my babies are crying." A hit of the accelerator to pull off, reconnecting to her RC deck as she did so.

«Plot» Melani says, "Pulling the Condor into overwatch, Strato's are going RTB."
«Plot» LogBot says, "May as well roll with the condor, see what it sees."

«Auto-Judge[]» Melani (#11271) rolls Intelligence + 2 for "Per+2 dice clearsight autosoft.":

«Plot-Page» (To: Melani) LogBot says, "That's a Strato-9 heading your way, and it's not one of yours."
«Plot» LogBot calls that 2 minutes have passed since the shot was fired and the van pulled off up to the road.

"Ground, I'd suggest hurrying the fuck up, or acting like a maintnance crew." There was a curse under her breath. A signal to the Condor to pull out as she made for the next exit at precisely the speed limit. "Operation is an abort, I say again operation is an abort. Lone Star is airborne." And that was that, she closed the disposable cell phone, removed it's battery and SIM chip. Throwing the case out the window.

It's around about this time that Adam and Air are pulling into Castle Rock, trundling off to inspect a building that's for sale. Fulfilling their cover for heading to Castle Rock today.

Hearing that, Haken decides there is no other choice. He runs to the cargo door and begins firing his pistol into the lock until it opens.

The lock shatters, and then the doors… stay locked. In fact, deadbolts slam into place very audibly.

Melani pulled off at the next exit, found a secluded spot to recall her drones, and pack them, before taking the highway back to Denver. Thats what she will be doing, so I don't clog up the rest of the scene.

«Plot» Haken says, "Haken runs back to his van, jacks in and speeds off."
