Log:The Past Catches
GM: Air
Players: Air, Echo
Synopsis: Air's past catches up with him, and he makes a quick call for backup to try to survive the night.
Date: Tue Jul 27 2070

Just over half the time has passed that the trip was though to take, meaning she's quite close already, Echo's voice comes over the encrypted channel: "You read me?"

Air is sneaking around an abandoned multistory building in the South Sunrise district as Echo comes in range of comms. «I'm here. Careful! I'm out of ammo, did you get anything from home? Best leave your bike where it is and sneak.» That's his advice, transduced over the waves as he keeps a slow prowl himself, somewhere on the third floor.

Echo transduces in reply, "I'll leave my bike in front of this self-defense academy place… update me your position. I have my own two guns… and… uhm… one of yours with one clip of ammo for it…"

Air drops down to the second level and glances around, the only weapon on him glinting in the dull light is his handblade. «Only one? Well, it's better than none. I'm in this building.» He fires a short databurst over the radio, with his very undetailed map of the area marked with his location. A building a couple of blocks away from the dojo.

Echo pulls her bike into the parking lot of the Aurora Academy of Self-Defense and kills the engine before it's even to where she's aiming to park it, letting it coast into place… and then she doesn't waste time with the kick-stand, simply laying the bike down to break off at a run in the direction of Air's latest position, per the transmition he'd previously sent to her, ducking into an alleyway across the street from the dojo. Once in the alley, she leaps up onto an old, overturned dumpster and from there up to grab, with outstretched hands, onto a windowsill. From there, she pulls herself up… then jumps up again to the next windowsill, and up again from there to the roof. Transducing over the secure channel she shares with Air, she transmits, "I'm coming via rooftops", including her location on a map, including her direction of travel and her best guess at her distance. Once on the roof, she gets low and slower, pulling out her silenced pistol as she starts stealthing her way closer to where Air's hiding.

Commlink-Lucky> Air says, "These guys will be scanning comms, change to the next freq."
Commlink-Razorgirl> Echo says, "Check."

Air switches over to the pre-arranged frequency as he says that, squelxhing out any reply. Even as he does he hears a boot scratch on the dusty, debris strewn floor behind him. His wires kick in and he flings himself sideways behind an old couch vbefore he's even registered what he heard.

Fully automatic fire rips the quietness of the night in half as the goon stitches his bullets -very- closely behind Air, and then another, shorter burst immediately after it.

Commlink-Lucky> Air says, "They found me, I'm going out a window."

Commlink-Razorgirl> Echo says, "sniper! am on him!"

«Plot» Echo says, "what kinda range is that for an ares pred 3?"
«Plot» Air says, "Long, TN 6."
«Plot» Air says, "Rangefinder is -1, SL-2 is -2."
«Plot» Echo says, "two shots. first at tn3, second at tn4 (recoil)"
«Plot» Air says, "Your rangefinder reveals he is 37.34 meters away."

Echo, as she spots the sniper and announces his presence, drops to a crouch and pulls the trigger on her silence pistol - twice. PUFF! PUFF! The two bullets find their mark, one going through the short wall behind which he hides, which slows it enough that the armor-piercing round pings off his armor. The second shot, however, goes over the wall and into his upper arm, cutting into the armor like it is designed to do.

Air takes two steps and leaps out of the second floor window justa s Echo engages the sniper above. Glass shatters and follows him out as he leaps, falling the five meters from the window to the ground. hitting with a grunt and tucking and rolling he jumps to his feet and slides around a wrecked car husk, panting heavily. «I'm on the ground.»

Echo transduces, "I've got the sniper's attention… get to my bike. The jack-start password is 'Asteroids'", as she prepares to try and /keep/ the sniper's attention.

Commlink-Lucky> Air says, "Toss me the gun!"

Air remains somewhat hidden behind the car in the meantime, eyes scanning the nearby rooftops for signs of Echo.

The goon that had found Air follows him quickly to the window, his form becomming visible as he knocks the remaining glass out. The dengerous looking assault rifle pokes out, aims down towards the car and starts spitting out rounds. One burst, two bursts, loud and echoing around the street, bullets pinging off the car forcing air to duck his head and crawl along towards the other end.

Echo transmits, "My Ares Pred coming down to you", as she moves closer to the edge and tosses the weapon over, so that it falls right down to Air. As she takes the two steps needed to do this, the sniper fires at her and the bullet hits the sleeve of her jacket - and the secure armor jacket stops it! She takes a third step and then slides on her the knee-guards that are part of her boots, ending up behind an air-conditioning machine, pulling out her little machine pistol as she does. "Taking fire up here!", she transmits.

Air scrambles on his hands and knees over to the Predator where it fell, scrabbling backwards after grabbing it. Spending that crucial moment to sync with the onboard smartlink-2, the reticle booting into hisn vision as he spins round. Laying his arm down over the trunk of the car he aims up, firing once at the goon in the window, who dodges deftly to the side, then re-appears and fires a quick burst at Air, the bullets pattering and piercing the car, but not hitting Air.

The sniper on the roof aims for where Echo's hiding, and fires at her as she pops up to take a shot. The bullet ricocheting off into the darkness and leaving a mark on her helmet where it struck its glancing blow. Echo pulls the trigger on her little machine pistol twice. The first burst traces across the sniper's armored chest, the bullets landing in a neat little group on his left side - which makes him spin around a bit from the impact. This has the unfortunate side effect of making Echo's second burst, fired into the same area, completely miss her target! The rat-a-tat of the machine pistol firing in burst mode is /easily/ heard - the weapon isn't silenced in any way!

Air pulls the trigger again immediately as the goon comes back into view. He may have dodged his first shot and fired back, but that was his error. Air had already killed two of this squad when he emptied his Cerberus and Thunderbolt. Now he has a pistol with ammo again, he looks keen to finish the rest off. The two shots hit the goon squarely in the chest, whose next burst goes off target.

Only one problem with that, his aim -was- off, Air hitting him put him -on- target and the burst fires right through the car into Air's chest, thankfully resisted by the armour he wears. Just as the assault rifle goon pulls back into cover the last remaining Yakashima goon appears at the ground floor, toting a heavy pistol which he immediately fires at Air twice, finding his target twice too. The Swede falls back behind the car as the two bullet slam high in his chest, knocking him over.

Air throws himself bodily against the car as soon as he can get off the floor again. His smartlink is telling him that his target has ogne out of sight, and also blinking up a new target. The goon at ground level, with a nice red highlight around him. The reticle is brought to bear over his main body mass, the silenced little pistol firing out the two hardened armour piercing rounds perfectly. His natural strength resists the recoil and the second shot lands a mere inch from the first, both penetrating through the security armour and slicing internal organs apart. The goon shudders, spasms and then falls to the ground, spitting blood from his mouth all over the inside of his visor.

Echo transmits, "Sniper wounded, bugging out. Getting to ground level!", and is up and moving, leaping out across the ally to a lower rooftop, landing, rolling, and back up on her feet to hop over an airconditioning duct to take two more steps before leaping off down into the street, below. She lands, tucks, rolls, and is back up on her feet, headed in the direction of her bike.

Air has his head over the car, watching, waiting. When Echo comms he jumps up and heads right for the building. «I can't let them get away!» He doesn't waste any time trying to explain, he just charges into the building after them.

Echo transmits, as she skids to a stop to go and help with this, "Sniper went down off the roof -here-", and transmits as good a map as she can, with the sniper's last known location.

Commlink-Lucky> Air says, "Standard operating procedure, they'll pull back to a known position and then leave."

Air dissapears into the building, having to jump over the now dead body of the pistol goon to do so. In seconds he's caught up to the sniper, who took longer to exit the building sinde he was on a higher floor. «Got the sniper, you keep going!»

As she runs, Echo swaps magazines for her machine pistol, so that she has a full load of ammo. She replies, via the cyberradio: "Check."

Air catches the sniper first, who seems to be pretty fast on his feet too. Unfortunately for him Air is still uninjured, if more than a little stressed and winded. His first shot goes a little wide, but the second pings solidly in the armour of the snipers back, digging in and drawing a trickle of blood.

The sniper yells out as he twists around, pointing his rifle vaguely behind him and pulling the trigger. He fires pitifully wide, and Air's return shot nails him in the back of the head, drilling his face forward, his still running legs piledriving him into the assorted debris on the floor. The body slides to a stop, a smear of red blood behind it as Air watches Echo speed right past.

Echo bolts around the corner and skids to a stop with her Steyr TMP extended in front of her. About fifteen feet away, the goon with the assault rifle looks up, eyes wide behind his helmet as he's caught totally by surprise as she unleashes a hail of bullets in his direction. The bullets traces a bloody line of pock-marks up the front of his body and send him reeling backwards, to fall to the ground!

Air skids around the corner just behind Echo as she does that, his boots not finding any purcahse on the rubbish strewn around the alley. He loses his footing, sliding down to land hard on his backside behind her. Reverting to his real voice he gasps in air as he looks at the stricken goon, "Good job…"

«Plot» Echo says, "what kinda assault rifle he carrying?"
«Plot» Air says, "Ares Alpha, pretty extensively modified."

Echo walks over to the goon… and pumps another, single, round into his chest from point-blank range - a 'make sure he STAYS down for good' shot. She then snatches up the assault rifle and turns to look at Air. "Get off your ass and let's get outta here in case they got backup coming!", she transmits on the encrypted radio channel, already starting back to where she left her bike.

Air waves his hands, staying put where he is. «They don't have any backup. Trust me. I know them.» Only then does he make an effoert to get up and turns to head back to the others. «Check that guy for his radio, anything valuable.» He himself heading in to check the others.

«Auto-Judge[]» Echo (#2477) uses 10 of item 1: ExEx Machine Pistol Ammo from Ammo (#10191).

Echo nods her head, slinging the rifle crosswise across her body after holstering her pistol. She does take a moment to hold out a fresh clip of APDS ammo for the pistol Air's using. "Here… just in case", she says, actually speaking it. Only then does she turn to check the body for valuables. Over the radio, again, though, she asks, «Where's your car? We'll need your trunkspace to get some of this stuff home….»

Air takes the clip and switches it for the mostly empty one in the pistol. Keeping it in hand he comms back as he heads into the building, «Chrome car park.»
