Players: Scurry
Synopsis: Scurry takes a journey to the metaplanes in order to make learning a spell easier. He ends up in the worst library I could imagine!

«Plot» PoshGM says, "Scurry, give us a pose of getting all comfy and projecting to the metaplanes. Include the name of the spell that you are researching."
Scurry has designed a spell, Physical Mask. Closing his logbook— it is a highly scientific document in appearance, reflecting his education— he sets it aside. Setting the windows in his bedroom to opaque, he turns off all electronic devices. Several candles are lit in safe places. Scurry is sitting before the mirror in the bedroom, several cosmetic items placed in front of it. He applies several of them: moisturizer; concealer; a shadowy smoke effect of eyeshadow. Afterwards, he inhales on a vaporizer, blowing the smoke into the mirror while he drifts off into space… Into the metaplanes.

«Plot» PoshGM says, "p. 94: Magic in the shadows: A successful quest reduces the Karma Cost for learning the spell by the chosen Quest Rating, and adds a number of dice equal to the Quest Rating to the test for learning the spell, under 'Learn Spell' catgory. R3 Astral Quest accepted."
You find yourself floating in the void, a bookish figure in an eighteen century frock coat with a quill pen just floating there in a desk. He's got, what else, simply a skull for a face, the grinning rictus focusing empty eye sockets on you. "Well! It seems you're -finally- projecting out of that comfy bed of yours in the search for knowledge. Well!" He nods to his desk and pulls out a library stamp, but with little spikes in it, dripping with crusted dried blood. "Your hand here, before you can proceed."

"Do you have a clean stamp or a sterile option?" Scurry asks, brow arched. His demeanor changes not a whit. His arms are folded as he regards the Outsider.

Though the skull faced library attendant, if that is what he be, cannot really change his expression, it appears that a touch of the wind has gone out of his sails. "Ah, a health and safety troll, it seems?" He makes an exagerrated, dramatic head sweep, and then reaches into a drawer, pulling out a sticker, which he proffers to you. "Place this on the back of your hand, then," he says. "And you may proceed."

Scurry puts the sticker on his hand. "Thank you," He says with genuine kindness to the skull.
As you place the sticker on your hand, it predictably glows with a flash, a door opening and then moving around you, placing you directly in the midst of a quaking, trembling nightmare of stacks of unshelved books, the earth moving beneath you. Book after book scatters down, flying open, the nightmare of book-based librarys presenting a deadly specter to you as the slings and arrows of the printed word assault you.

Scurry is predictably horrified, and for a variety of reasons: Pages! Unorganized! Deadly papercuts! Which are a serious matter, because Scurry absolutely can bleed to death. Taking a deep breath, he shields his face and runs through them.

As soon as you manage to sprint your way past the falling stacks of books, you quickly find yourself faced with the wicked spiritual form of someone who's got their headphones on in the library, so loud, so loud, the blaring of buttrock out from those ears making it seem like the speakers must be in. A few other spirits look up from their study places in the library, beseeching you for aid against this interloper.

And of course, as you advance into the next room, you are stopped by…yourself, already hard at work on the spell. "Oh," you say," your face taking on a bit of an unimpressed grimace for a moment, before it's covered over into a Mona Lisa smile. "Well, I suppose there are your materials. I imagine you stand little chance of completing this before me," he says, burrowing his eyes into the greatest doubts in your soul, if there are any.

You give yourself a scowl, and then disappear into ethereal nothingness.

When you enter in there, you find yourself at the dizzying maze that is the library's card catalogue. It appears that whoever created the reference and stacking system may have been an insane monkey whos primary concern was about extending the length of time he could tailswing between unimaginably vast bookscapes.

You find a hard won card, but its text seems to disappear in your hand. However, the form of the Curator appears in front of you, someone who's claimed an inappropriately lofty title for a long-service book-shelver. The ill-smelling shambling creature approaches you, demanding that you surrender any knowledge on your person.

The spirit seems to disappear, however, and one of the stacks suddenly falls over as there's the sound of a sudden rampage, a brutal brawl that seems to sweep you up rather directly, dozens of spirits and studiers enraged by the disruptions of the headphone guy and the curator, punching and kicking and hating - it's inescapable, even if it's not focused on you.

Scurry is a novice in physical battling, but a master of another tactic: toss up a quick elbow, drop, and roll the hell out of the way. This he does with success, slamming himself in the face with the elbow before running the hell out of dodge.

You manage to find a book labeled 'Physical Mask' in your hands at the bottom of the melee, and manage to escape. Now it's time for check out, only the line is -huge-. And it looks like it's almost closing time. Uh oh. The grim looking lady up at the counter is already reaching for the 'See you tomorrow!' sign.

"I have an organized card catalog, but I couldn't part with it if I have to return," Scurry says immediately to the grim lady. "Otherwise it would have to wait unless I get what I need right now."
It seems like the exit has changed, however - what once was the exit is clearly the door to the Citadel. The lady grumbles a bit, but nods, stamping the little card and giving it back to you. Though the pages of the book are empty, as you cross through the threshold into the Citadel you can see the text in it start to fill in, scrolling along in glowing text. The knowledge is there, awaits you…all you have to do is disappear down the long hallway to the Citadel, for it to unlock in your brain and leaving you sweating and awake…but unharmed.
Scurry smiles as he exchanges his organized account of the encounter with the card catalog for the text he needs. Then, turning around to find the exit, he instead finds himself wandering the halls of the Citadel. "Oh," He says, as if not realizing he was not about to be challenged further. This is it! The Citadel.
Scurry wakes up in his bedroom with an exhale of air, more tired than when he first began.
