Log:Small Town, Big Trouble Part 2
Hunni nods in agreement, although it might be hard to see from her spot and ashe looks between the others. "Well, question is now do we wait and heal up, which gives them a chance to prepare, or go in a little whoozy?"

Carpenter shakes his head a bit, and taps the side of his forehead, once, pointing to the room.

Commlink-Fusilier> Carpenter says, "Call me paranoid, but this was an occupied building. I'm worried about bugs."

Commlink-Longbow> Hunni says, "Unlikely, given they had to run down there rather then come up here. This is a mining town… but the question still stands."

Commlink-Fusilier> Carpenter says, "I'd want to hold up; we can take watches, but I'd rather not walk into that stronghold punch drink."

Commlink-Fusilier> Carpenter says, "Let's hold here until we have our wits, and scavengae; they had one grenade; they might have more."

Commlink-Broadsword> Boomstick says, "Loot th'bodies.. see if they got anythin' better'n -GEL- on 'em fer ammo… mebbe some 'nades… aid patches… fookin' booze…"

Commlink-Longbow> Hunni says, "Alrighty then, I'll stay up here and keep an eye on the mines with the big gun. Tell me what you find while we rest up."

Carpenter takes first watch, which means his a bit grumpy and woozy, but nothing that he was going to complain about. At least he wasn't bleeding. "Goddamn it, I though these bloody things were quick jobs. That one perk a' bein' out a' th' squeeze was sleepin' in somethin' with a lot a' cushion. Urban campin'. Bloody fraggin' waste a' a good night. An' it gets cold up 'ere, I'll bet." He says this while checking corpses, looking for IDs, gear, food, and ciggerettes.

Hunni had been hit hard by the motorcycle group and so she'd take the first nap. She'd earned it with her sniper support after all. Resting up with her big rifle curled close she'll snooze unless interupted, needing the most time to recover her slender self

Boomstick had curled up near Hunni, keeping herself between the resting sniper and the nearest entrance. She's still feeling woozy from the gorram concussion grenade, and mumbles something as she hugs her shotgun in the very same way Hunni hugs her rifle. Seems she's got her back gently pressed against the other woman, a team even in their sleep.

Carpenter pauses in his search, looking at the two woman, before pulling his PocSec out and taking a picture. "Bloody adorable." He mutters, before packing the PocSec back and resuming his search.

Brock also scavenges the bodies while keeping a look out for those resting. "This will teach me not go on a mission with out a mage or people who I never worked with before." He yawns lightly "Oh well live and learn." Once it is time for the next shift to take over watch he does sleep soundly.

«Auto-Judge[]» Argos (#11351) rolls 1:

«Plot» Argos says, "From your searching, you find quite a few SMGs, Sandler TMPs and a few Ares Predators. They're all packing gel rounds of course. You also manage to find 3 of those concussion grenades."

Boomstick mumbles as her PocSec buzzes in her pocket, her alarm going off silently. Slowly, she sits up, turning it off, and stealing a light peck from Hunni's forehead. "…y'stay restin', girl…" she mumbles and stands. A stretch here, and she looks at the stockpile that Brock and Carpenter had gathered. "Huh! Fancy that…" she smirks, then gently claps Carpenter on the back. "Aright, get yer rest, heavy weapons guy… 'm gonna see if there's a first aid kit or sumfin' 'round 'ere.. they gotta store stuff fer miner injuries…"

«Plot» Boomstick says, "And that's what Boomstick is going to use her half hour for. Between keeping watch, hunting around for medical supplies. Assuming there's like, a foreman's office or something."

«Plot» Argos says, "Not in the warehouse"

«Plot» Boomstick says, "Guess I'll still scrounge a bit… there has to be something. Wall-mounted kit in case someone drops a box on their toe…"

Carpenter nods at the clap on his back, bringing his own PocSec to connect to his datajack, and setting his timer for 30 minutes. "'ope I feel better after 'alf an 'our a' rest. Thanks for takin' th' watch." He notes, before moving toward a convient wall out of the field of fire of the windows, and leaning aganist it, closing his eyes to get what sort of catnap he could.

The sniper doesn't take watch, doctor's orders, but her weapon is prepped and checked while she waits, and she'll be ready in an hour unless they're attacked

«Plot» Argos says, "Ok, Boomstick doesn't find anything else worth anything and the hour is pretty much up now"

Once Hunni wakes up Brock decides that it is time for a little bit of me time. He sits against a wall "Just need about ten minutes or so." He now rest with a firm grip on his shotgun.

As Brock goes to take his break, Boomstick checks on Hunni, and then Carpenter. "Rise 'n bloody shine, huh? What d'ya think of all these el-tee-el ammunition? An' conc grenades? Unless that's all they'd been issued, ya would think they were tryin' ta take us out so they could eat us or sumfin'…"

Carpenter will snap awake as his alarm goes off, the slight pounding in his head replaced by the grumpy feeling of not enough sleep. He looks over to Boomstick as she gives the wake up call. "Well…" He says, shaking his head a bit. "Weapons looked like stuff ya would find on the street; some security class stuff, yeah, but that's a lot a' ammo they were burnin' through. My guess is someone shipped this stuff in; an' they were draggin' them off to somewhere; and, what do ya know, most of th' opposition used t' be townies."

Hunni gives a little groan of protest, the classic 'five more minutes', but she'll stand and pat Boomstick on the shoulder. "I'm up, i'm up…sorry I got so damn bruised…" she murmers and listens in, giving her rifle another once over

After about ten minutes Brock stands up and stretches a for a little bit. He then checks over his shotgun. "Looks like every thing is ok there." Brock does not walk to any one he keeps to himself waiting for some one to say it is time for them to go.

The shortest one is the fearless leader, then, and Boomstick whistles. "Alright… so.. we checkin' out th'factory 'fore we poke into th'mine? Or we gonna do a lil' recon first an' fuck th'factory, cuz it's probably clear they've gotten themselves all nice 'n fortified while we been lickin' our bruises."

Carpenter nods to Boomstick. "Th' former, I'd say; That seems t' be their other strong'old in th' area, an' I want t' make sure they don't 'ave any mobile components left; Keep our escape route clear, an' search for any gear they might 'ave left behind."

Hunni nods in agreement and readies her bigger rifle, obviously not in a good mood after being shot towards the opposition. "Well i'm adverse to more motorcycles and machine guns, so let's not leave anything at our back we don't have to…" she murmers and while things are being sorted, she moves to peer from her sniper position to see if anything's changed.

Brock cracks his knuckles then starts to slowly walk towards the door, "Sounds good." Seeing how no one has wanted to go with his plans he is not going to suggest any thing any more with this group.

Boomstick laughs softly at Hunni, nodding in her direction, and then Carpenter. "Aright, so we 'it th'factory, poke around, mebbe get a dune buggy an' crash their party, yeah?" she grins.

Carpenter nodnods, and points to his helmet, infrared flashlight attached. "Anyone else got a light? It's dark out there, an' I doubt an' a' these miners 'ave cybernetics. Besides, 'aven't seen an ork or a troll 'round, 'ave you?"

Hunni taps her scope, but other then that she shakes her head. "Torches tend to be adverse to the trade."

Brock looks over to Carpenter, "Present company excluded of course."

Boomstick snorts, then fishes into her pocket. She wiggles her own infra-red flashlight, "Gotta stick it in m'mouth if I wanna use m'hands, but… aye.." she starts heading for the door with Brock. "Aright, let's get this train wreck movin', 'fore it gets -real- late.."

«Plot» Argos says, "One exit and the factory is 60 meters away to the west"

Boomstick grins, "Aright.. Brock, wit me. We'll take point… Fusilier.. y'keep near Longbow. Y'both got range on us, an' can spot sumfin'… we'll move up, quick 'n quiet, leapfrog 'n shit… y'understand wot I mean? Like, Fusilier 'n I move, 'n then Brock 'n Longbow move…" she wiggles her fingers, like piglets chasing piglets.

Carpenter gives a not to Boomstick, and gathering up his gear. "Last time I checked, I wasn't some neophyte tryin' t' recall th' last simsense I saw. Team's a' two, leapfroggin' forward. Got it."

Hunni nods and pats Boomstick on the shoulder, expecting they'll be paired up that way so each pair has a light. "Alright then, lets get moving."
Brock rubs his chin "That is the best plan I heard all day, sadly Idon't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing."

Boomstick nods, "Aright, good, let's move our butts… 'fore th'sun comes up an' we gotta deal with LAVs an' gunships an' shit…" Not that she remembers what the deadline was. Off towards the factory!

Commlink-Longbow> Hunni shakes her head. "With the stuff in here, best I could manage is the old 'something heavy over the door' trick. Wouldn't do much anyway." she murmers. "Might be better to just move on."

Boomstick continues standing at her post in front of the refinery. She's looking around, towards the town proper, then towards the mine. She taps her foot, trying to listen for more engines, or anything else. Girl's got her shotgun in her hands, pointed slightly towards the ground as she begins to pace.

Twitch. Twitch. -BLAM!- Boomstick stares down the length of her shotgun, barrel smoking as she scowls. The short redhead stares into the blackness for a moment, squinting, before loading a replacement shell into her weapon. "…place fuckin' crawls…" she growls. "…we ain't fraggin' alone, an' I'm too sober t'be seein' pink ephelants…"

Hunni jumps and spins, looking in the direction of Boomstick's shot. "The hell?" she questions…but if anyone was to trust Boomstick wasn't seeing things, it's her. Hallucinations would not make her a good spotter.

Carpenter jumps at the shot that's made, turning to Boomstick with a shocked look on his face. "God damn it, woman, what th' blood 'ell is /wrong/ with you! Watch your goddamn fire!" He says, before swallowing a bit. "Sorry… sorry. Just warn us if you /see/ something to shoot at."

Brock looks over to Boomstick direction, "You saw the pink ones? That is ok, if you saw the red elephants then I would be worried about you."

The woman's still staring down the length of her shotgun, taking slow, deep breaths. Then there's a shudder, and she lowers her weapon, casting her head down along with it. "…there's sumfin' out 'ere fookin' wit us…" she says quietly. "…jus'… watch yer arses… s'jus' like that one movie, Aliens. Place crawls…" she repeats. "…nuke th'site from orbit, s'th'only way t'be sure.." she grumbles, but starts moving towards the mine, taking point.

Hunni moves with the others, but she's on high alert, eyes sweeping around as the group travels. She's keeping in their patten that means there's a minimal amount of blind-spots around Boomstick and her, a little team trick.

The entrance to the mines is rather simple really. Its a lift that leads down a long and dark shaft, supported by steal cables with a lever to activate it. As the group gets closer though, something stirs in front of the lift, taking shap. It looks like a bipedal creature standing on two legs… made out of bricks.
"That's far enough, you lot have killed enough of my men." The voice sounds familiar, only more… primal somehow. If they risk to look behind them, its Christian standing there, glaring at them… only its not Christian for much longer as white fur erupts from his skin and he seems to grow much taller, the canine teeth jutting out of his mouth and his hands sharpening into claws.

«Plot» Argos says, "Its dead"

«Plot» Argos says, "You removed the rest of its head that Hunni was so nice to work on for you"

Brock looks to finish off the damage that Hunni did. "Christian man… I believe you, I believed in you! How could youlie to me and be one of them?!" He takes a dead aim at the head of the werewolf then fires at it with his shotgun, his shot blows Christian head off of his shoulders.

Christian, or what was pretending to be Christian as that SO isn't him, is having a rather rough day. He had the drop on them, should have gotten them by surprise, but somehow they just DON'T spook like everyone else in the world does, they just react and fill him with large and painful holes! He's already planning his revenge on that asian bitch when the troll screams in betrayal and…. he looses his train of thought after that as his brain goes everywhere out the back of his head.
The Spirit takes a step towards them, and then stops… it starts to slowly fade away, no longer having any need of being here anymore.

Carpenter quickly turns to the thing taking Christians form, yelling out an order to fire that's… lost in gunfire as his helmet light bathes the body in IR luminensce as it takes massive amount of gunfire. His own trigger isn't pulled, and it takes him a second to register the dead one, before turning to the CIty Spirit just in time to see it fade away. He lets his rifle drop and rolls his eyes. "I'm gonna need th' name a' whatever doc shoved those wires int' /all/ a ya, damn it. Still. I 'ave t' think these sons a' bitches weren't expectin' professionals." He pauses for a moment. "Ammo check."

Boomstick mutters, staring at the vanishing spirit, and looking over her shoulder because she missed -all- of the awesome. "…fuck m'life…" she grumbles, nodding to Carpenter. "…reloadin'…." she grunts, stuffing three new shells into the body of her shotgun and smiling as the numbers in her smartlink light up happily to indicate a full load. "…so.." she points at the shaft, "…we goin' spelunkin'?"

Said asian bitch lowers her rifle as Brock finishes things up for her. Nodding her thanks to the troll man she exhales and looks down at her weapon. She'd opened fire long before Carpenter yelled, but still she's going to check her mag. "I've got four and one in the chamber."

Brock does not have to check his ammo, "I took two shots so far got two kills, I am fine on ammo." He now rubs his gun and says to it, "Keep this up baby and I am going to name you." Brock then returns the nod to Hunni.

Carpenter nods. "A number of clips; given th' opposition so far, I don't think we'll 'ave much use t' scavenge th' dead for guns. All right." He says, taking a deep breath. "There isn't anything above ground. Not at th' moment, anyway. We cleared their strong holds, wrecked their vehicles, an' that… thing is dead. We 'ave two options. We can either 'old this point at th' mine entrance with what fields a' fire we can emplace, an' prevent anythin' from leavin' while we want for a corporate force that's, frankly, much more expendable than I feel we are. Or we get on that lift, descend int' th' darkness, an' 'ope they speant th' bulk a' their forces out 'ere."

He reaches into his LBE again, quickly fishing out a cigerrete and lighting it. "I won't lie. I'm scared t' /death/ a' what might be down there, an' I'm begginin' t' think that it might not be worth my life. However, that is all balanced out by me likin' money. So. Thoughts?"

Boomstick grunts, "Y'think that cloud hoverin' over yer dune buggy is gonna let a buncha corp troopers in 'ere safely in gunships 'n shit? We already pissed off wot's 'ere, but… 'ey. Y'think th'stormtoopers'll be able t'get in jus' fine… we 'old 'ere. Otherwise, we finish th'job, an' go 'ome. Cuz it's either waitin' or goin'…" she looks to Hunni and Brock.

Brock cracks his knuckles "I will go with what ever the majority vote is, as long as it is reasonable." Brock has had enough of his ideas being ignored with this group so he is not offering any more.

Hunni frowns a little. "I think first thing to check is if those cloud things are still there. But we were here to find out what happened and this thing just told us. 'It's men?' this thing was running the show…on some degree."

Carpenter takes a deep breath. "Goddamn it to 'ell. All right. Let's finish this. I'll take lead. Shotgunners close up, riflewoman supporting th' rear." He moves to step into the lift, bringing up his M23, and loading in a fresh clip, before pulling the charging handle back to cycle a fresh round. "We get targets, we go t' ground, an' eliminate them. Keep th' route back clear in case we need t' egress. Clear?"

Hunni nods and does her 'triplecheck' of her large rifle. Not quite designed for room to room combat, but it hits like a cannon, so that's gotta count for something. "Sweep and clear, wilco" she speaks and takes a breath. This will likely get messy.

Boomstick nods to Carpenter, checking her tube and grinning. "…fully loaded, sugar… let's get this done 'n get our bloody pay… s'already been a night 'm needin' whiskey for…" she grumbles. "Locked 'n loaded, keep our butts clear, easy 'nuff… jus'… ain' looking forward t'wot's down there."

When the group finally starts the lift and heads down into the depths of the earth… it gets dark. It was already dark with just the night sky but now… the blackness is almost suffocating for those that don't have thermal vision. The trip down takes a little over five minutes, and the lift doesn't make much sound. If it wasn't for the sensation of being swallowed deeper into the earth, one would wonder if one were moving at all. Eventually though, the lift finally comes to a stop, the runners now on the ground with electric lights scattered about, though half of them look like they're gone.
Then the smell hits them… the smell of rot and blood.

Brock gives Carpenter the smallest of nods then walks into the lift after him. He knows how much ammo he has and is doing decently well in terms of bullets.

Hunni gives a little frown as the scent hits her, but she's lucky enough to have thermal vision -and- her scope to see with if she needs it. Mentally thinking back to compare this with a drainage ditch she once had to crawl through the sniper exhales and counts to three to let herself adjust.

«Plot» Argos says, "Light is partial"

Boomstick affixes her little infra-red flashlight on the end of her shotgun, clicking it on. She mumbles again, "..this sucks.. I miss th'urban jungle 'nstead… smella piss 'n smoke 'n booze… better'n…. fraggin' -death-…"

Carpenter looks a bit nervous… well, perhaps more than a bit, as they decend, a slightly shaking hand plucking out one of the few nicsticks he has left, lighting the glowpad and sucking it dow as quickly as possible as the elevator makes it's decent, before snuffing it out with a boot heel. "Christ, it's like th' bloody Underground." He mentions, before taking a deep breath as the elevator stops. A quick flick and his infrared helmet light is turned on, one foot placed in front of the other, as he advances… before halting. "Good.. God, what /is/ that?" He whispers to himself, before continuing the advance.

«Plot» Hunni says, "Would like to look and listen for any sounds or sights of movement, especially as those lights were turned on."

Brock does have thermal vision, comes with being a troll. He does not say any thing when he smells the rot, with Brock pissed off as he is he is not in the mood to say much of late.

«Plot» Boomstick says, "Does thermographic + an infrared flashlight cut the partial light penalty?"

«Plot» Argos says, "Increases it I believe. Feel free to make a perception check"

«Plot» Argos says, "Wait, it cuts it down, just not as much as low light does"

You paged (Carpenter, Boomstick, Brock) with 'Not to much worth seeing, just a path leading into the mines. You hear all sorts of… interesting sounds though, people moving, moans, even the occassional scream. Its all enhanced by echoes as well'.

Boomstick just maintains her position at Carpenter's flank. She grumbles yet more, "…man.. s'like… I saw this in a fraggin' movie once… there's gunna be… like.. critters… 'n.. mebbe a Nosferatu… or sumfin.."

The path from the lift is just straight on, no other passages that you can see. The supports are metal and seem to be rather well kept, or used to be. Still, they're sturdy enough to keep the place from accidently caving in on you so long as someone doesn't put to much stress on them.

Hunni 's staying quiet, because drifting into her hunter frame of mind is the way she deals with the disgusting things on the battlefield. She listens out and tries to spot any signs of movement before looking to the others. She sees nothing.

Brock tries his best to not let the sounds he hears distract or discourage him. He does shake his head when he hears a scream every now then. He mumbles under his breath upon hearing another scream talking to himself saying, "Down here that can't be a good thing."

Carpenter keeps coming forward, shaking his head and grumbling they continue on. "Goddamn site should be 'it with a bunker-buster from that air base th' Yanks 'ave that isn't getting any use. No mineral can be worth this bloody mess.

Boomstick grins, "…nuke th'site from orbit?" She shrugs lightly, but keeps her shotgun up, light facing her sweeps as she seems to be anticipating, well, anything at this point. "…bricks 'n yetis 'n freaks 'n… didn' Troma do a movie like this once?"

Twenty meters in and there appear a few differant paths. Two the left, two to the right, and the path continues on.

"It depends entirely if we are doing this as a rescue or not. Otherwise we could just collapse this mine on them and kill everything inside without going further. Even those creatures do no survive without air." Hunni points out as they arrive at the path-split.

Carpenter looks to Boomstick for a moment and gives a shaky smirk. "Know 'ow expensive that is? It's easy enough t' collapse a place like this without th' 'eavy weapory-" He pauses, looking to the paths. He grumbles, and makes a notation on his Orientation system: four paths; two left, two right. "I don't think we're th' type t' be rescuin', an' look at the odds. Place like this… rescues turn int' bloodbaths." He says, before pointing down the passage furthust to the right. "Anyone with Ultrasonics?"

When they get to the splits in the path Brock waits to see what the people in the group want to do. Brock shakes his head in response to Carpneter's question about ultrasonics.

Boomstick shakes her head, "Nuffin'…" she mumbles. "…we uh, mebbe jus' take one at a time? Man… figgers we didn' find th'fookin' foreman's office an' dig up a map…"

Hunni nods in agreement. "Splitting up would not be an advisable idea. Any signs which path might be the right one?"

Carpenter shakes his head. "I wasn't provided a map. I'm goin' off a' basic orientation, an' I'm not gettin' a lot off that.

Carpenter points to the furthest right one. "Will followo this one, an' make a mark of it; we do this systemically, an' keep our extits open,.

Hunni chews her bottom lip for a moment and looks down for cables, then up to see which is widest. "The most frequently used one is going to have power and be wider…"

Brock not much more Brock is going to do then play follow the leader. He will go down the path after Carpenter goes first.

Boomstick quirks a brow. "…why right?" she asks, curious. "Dad always had a sayin'… wasn' always right, but… let's go left. First left. Left is always right, cuz right is always wrong."

Carpenter looks to Boomstick for a moment. "Well, my father 'ad a saying, too. Always try t' make sure ya get in about mid day at th' 'opsital, because most wait afterwork. It makes as much sense in this situation as that sayin'. If left's a stickler, lets go left, but I don

Carpenter looks to Boomstick for a moment. "Well, my father 'ad a saying, too. Always try t' make sure ya get in about mid day at th' 'opsital, because most wait afterwork. It makes as much sense in this situation as that sayin'. If left's a stickler, lets go left, but I don't 'ave any way of tellin' what's down any a these paths.

Brock takes the time to stretch a bit and cracks his knuckles while Boomstick and Carpenter trade differnt sayings.

Hunni lets the pair talk it over while she reaches into her camo-suit and withdraws one of the reeled cables for her grapple gun and moves over the enterances. It should take her all of 10 seconds, but she's going to set up a very simple -trip- with the cable designed to hoist a large human's weight, pull out two of the spare mags for her pistol she stands them in the center balanced against each other. Hopefully it should mean that anything coming out of the other paths behind them will rather noisily trip and make the mags clatter, so they know something's behind them.

«Auto-Judge[]» Hunni (#12074) rolls Mechanical Traps vs TN 4:
1 3 5 = 1 Success

«Plot» Argos says, "Right, now where were you putting it?"

«Plot» Hunni says, "Down at ankle-calf level extending from enterance to enterance. If anything comes out of the other tunnels it could easily trip over it as it's probably invisible in all this black."

«Plot» Argos says, "Which entrance? You have the path behind you, two on the left, two on the right, and the one still going forward"

«Plot» Hunni says, "Extending around the one we're not going down, the main and the two on the right in a 'U' shape."

Carpenter looks on as Hunni sets the trap, before taking a breath. "Glad you're on our side. This would be amusin', given' my experiance with tunnels… ya know, if it wasn't for th' loud bloody screams and th' stench a' all things decayin'." He notes, before moving to step past the trip wire to the /left/ most passage. Might as well appease if it wasn't important.

Hunni just murmers something about explosives, screws and a rifle round before she makes a mental note to stop letting Boomstick make them watch 80's shows anymore. Mcguyver aside she makes a point to show -exactly- where the thing is to everyone else. If they trip over it it would be a 'facepalm' and a half.

Boomstick grins, "…yeah if'n all that drek wasn' 'ere, it might be kinna nice spelunkin'… mebbe find a nice underground pool 'n fish fer cave trout… or sumfin…" She blinks, though, feeling her nose itch before she sneezes. "…you talkin' 'bout me, Longbow?" she eyes Hunni, before falling into stpe behind Carpenter.

Brock follows after Carpenter to the left most passage, he of course avoids the trap that Hunni made.

Hunni moves last and steps into the path behind the others. Boomstick either in front of her or covering her rear as they look to see what they might find.

The path goes straight for awhile, before turning gradually to their left. Nothing much to see, some lights work, and some don't. Though that stench is getting rather bad… eventually they'll come out into a larger area, an area they were working on. Plenty of left behind equipment, though some of it looks like it was salvaged… and the smell is /really/ bad as there's a pile of bones and refuse in the center of the room.

Carpenter continues on point, heading down the passage one step after another, coughing a bit. "You'd think the smell would be somethin' ya get used to." He says, as they move forward, passed flickering lights, before Carpenter stops, as the passage opens up. He motions, "Clear th' entrance. We scan left, right, left, right, in order." and quickly moves forward, clearing the bottleneck and sweeping his rifle to the left side, then the front again, scanning for enemies, and only settling his eyes on the piles of bone once.

Boomstick snorts, then gags for a moment due to the sudden intake. "…makes me glad they never invnted fraggin' smell-o-vision… though BTL fucks ya up enough…" she grunts. Then she moves in, taking her zone, scanning and sweeping with her shotgun.

Carpenter checks his zone, before nodding. "Clear." He says, steppping forward, and poking a rifle butt into the pile of bones and refuse. "Miners, you think?" He says, breathing primarily through his mouth. "Or something else?" He checks through it some short time for clues.

«Auto-Judge[]» Carpenter (#3344) has the Knowledge Skill Forensics with the value '3 (4)'.

Boomstick grunts, "Clear," she moves nearer to Carpenter afterwards, peeking at the bones and such herself. "…mebbe it's uh.. some elaborate kinnda.. centerpiece fer.. a modern art exhibition…" she says, sounding hopeful. "…mebbe this 'ole thing's some kinna funky museum piece…" she grumbles, "..an' not some cult's playground or sumfin' worse…. but…" she slumps her shoulders, dejectedly, looking around the room for any side passages or shafts not immediately noticable.

«Auto-Judge[]» Boomstick (#12075) has the Knowledge Skill Art with the value '3'.

Brock just says, "Clear." He will let Boomstick and Carpenter handle the investigation part.

"Maybe it's their trash can." Hunni says bluntly. "Miners or citizens, either way we know they were wanting to take people alive, this must be where they put the leftovers…" she says before looking back to the doorway.

«Plot» Argos says, "Also note that the bones are picked clean. At least you guys won't go to waste!"

Carpenter pauses for a moment, before looking down. "Well… I don't see any obvious breaking, or gunshot wounds, though it's 'ard t' tell in this mess. I suppose there might be somethin' we're missing, but this doesn't look like a museum piece. These are meta'uman bones… mostly 'uman. An' it looks like they were… well. Eaten." He swallows. "Possibly alive. Which… might explain why they're capturin' them. This isn't the best place for grazin' cattle, 'owever." He stands up, and looks around. Was there a way forward, or did they have to go back?

«Plot» Boomstick waits for word on if there's a way forward, or if we're needing to backtrack.

«Plot» Argos says, "The room is open, but the only way out is the way you came in"

Boomstick grunts, and starts heading back towards the tunnel out, lingering at the edge of the threshold. "…aright… one down… four t'go…" she nods, pointing her shotgun down the passage. "C'mon, sooner we get this done, sooner I can start 'avin' nightmares 'bout fookin' caves…"

Brock follows Carpenter and Boomstick out of the passage.

Hunni moves up, but she leads the group back as far as the enterance, making sure they step over the trip wire.

Carpenter sighs, and continues back the way they came, moving in third behind the sniper duo. "You need t' get more experiance, dear. Ya should already be 'aving nightmares 'bout caves." He says, making sure to carefully step over the tripwire.

Boomstick shrugs, "Nah, I get nightmares 'bout sewers 'n buildin' lobbies 'n rooftops… no caves yet…" She nods to that far right passage now. "Ok so I was wrong. Wanna do yers?"

Brock avoids the trip wire and waits for Carpenter and Boomstick to decide where they are going.

The next path the runners decide to follow goes straigh for a few meters, nearly a dozen. Then it starts to curve to the right. Eventually it opens up into a large chamber, dimly lit. Most of the lights here don't seem to work. Further in, there's another passage leading further into the mines.

Boomstick doesn't like when things pop out of the shadows and fill her teammates with bullets. Carpenter looks okay, that armor clearly holding. But the impacts Brock takes are most certainly noticed. She swings her shotgun around, "Feck off!" Three bursts of light as three slugs stitch a neat line in her target, one piercing armor and slamming into his guts, the second cracking his sternum, and the third leaving a new breathing orifice in the center of his face where the nose used to be. Imagine what she'd have done if Hunni'd been the one tagged instead…

The ambush catching them makes Hunni clench her teeth, but it's handled. This needs to be over, now. Dropping her rifle and quickdrawing her pistols she raises them up and squeezes of a single shot, snapping the goon's head back and ending his part in this little drama.

Carpenter yells out as the shadows eurpt with two enemy targets, bringing his rifle around as the targets are swiftly dropped by the others. The shots bounce off of his heavily armed form, as he breathes heavily, before looking over to Brock. "Goddamn it. I suppose they're not playing for th' next course in th' meal anymore." He says, moving to look him over. "Fuck, I don't 'ave a medkit… Any a' you?" He says, looking toward the two girls?

Boomstick nods, lowering her shotgun for a moment, looking the bodies over before she racks five shells back in to reload. "Yeah I got one, lemme see if I can fix ya up, big guy…" she grunts quietly, looking Brock over and frowning.

Brock sits down trying to slow down the blood flow, when hit with so many bullets at once it is not an easy thing to do.

Hunni shakes her head, it's her spotters job to patch up the holes, she makes them. Holstering her pistols the asian woman looks to her barret. It might make her more of a target, but it leaves nice holes in people.

Boomstick pulls her tools out of their pouches, setting up the little monitor as she goes about providing rapid care. It's not exactly surgery, but with the troll's thick hide, the bullets are pretty shallow as she plucks them out as quickly as she can and sprays some Quik-Knit anesthetic on the holes. "…quick patch-job oughta keep ya walkin', sugar…" she looks her handiwork over.

Brock gives a nod to Boomstick "Almost as good as Naomi would have done, thanks, though I am going to need a few minutes."

Boomstick grumbles, "Walk it off, big guy. Longer we sit 'round down 'ere, longer they got t'set up sumfin' like that again. So c'mon, think 'appy thoughts an' I'll buy ya a beer once this is all over'n done with…" She keeps a few less encouraging words out of her little speech and gestures to the other exit in this room. "Goin' deeper or back ta crossroads?"

Brock looks back to Boomstick "I don't think you get it. I was lucky to survive that last shot and I am damn sure I will not be lucky enough to survive another. One thing I have noticed what ever these creatures are now, none of them used to be trolls. So for the human and elves they might look to capture, but for the trolls it is death and nothing else. I wish you guys luck." Brock now starts to walk out.

Carpenter hand twitches just a bit as her reflexivly reaches for a pack of cigerettes that aren't there, before looking over to Brock. "Oy. Mate. You think any a' us are survivors? Any 'a /us/ aren't feelin' fraggin' terrified on what's down there?" He approches him for a few steps. "We've got a job t' do. Get down there, an' end this. They're on board, and I'm close t' pissin' myself, but I'm on board. You run out on this, an' it's gonna dog you forever that ya left a team a' professionals t' die while you took th' cowards way out."

Hunni frowns as she looks between the others and chews her bottom lip for a moment. "If you're going backwards, rest, but keep your weapons ready and your comm on…" she says slowly. "We need to be fast and put a bullet in the thing responcible, so if you can't come with us…I hope you'll at least keep an eye on us."

Brock raises a brow to Carpenter "When all of you were too hurt to want to go on I took watch over each and every one of you while you rested off your wounds. Now that I am hurt has the favor been returned or even suggested, no. All of you are welcomed to come with me despite this one sided treatment. We are only being paid 35,000 thousand nuyen or less? That amount is not worth my life. So either come with me or go on with out me, if you go on with out me, good luck."

"Ain' sure they even 'ad any trolls employed 'ere," Boomstick shrugs. "Didn't see any among th'dead or livin'," she tries to recall. "An' I patched ya up nice 'n good. They're jus' done fuckin' 'round with us. Next burst at any of us I'll bet ya ain't gonna be gummi bears anymore. You walkin'? Fine, but watch our backs. Longer we piss 'round this barrel, more time's wastin'…" she growls, then looks to Carpenter and Hunni. "Forward?"

Carpenter pauses, before looking over to Boomstick and Hunni. "They'll be expectin' four guns down there. They'll lay their defenses, plan their entrances, and hit us with that power, an' we only got three. That bastard wants to be selfish, I'm going to end 'is goddamn reputation as best I can, but I don't feel comfortable goin' down there with three a' us."

Carpenter pauses for a moment, and rips open a bag on his webbing, before handing a patch over to Brock. "Stim patch. It'll keep ya up for th' next fight. I've got another one. How 'bout this. I run out a' these, you can bug out, an' we'll follow you. While they last, though, ya stay with us."

Hunni nods and looks to Boomstick. "It's either forwards, or we back up out into the town and wait for them to come out…" she says slowly and glances down the hallway. So if we're striking, we have to strike fast and now…"

Brock pauses and think it over for a moment "Not as good as resting but better then nothing. I can work with that." Brock is now willing to go with the group.

Carpenter nods, and moves forward, now, patting Boomstick on the shoulder. "I'll take point. Watch my back, all right?" He says, before bringing his rifle in a tactical position, and taking the front of the group as they head down the tunnel.

«Plot» Argos says, "Which tunnel, the one they came from or the other one in the room?"

«Plot» Boomstick says, "Pretty sure we were striking forward, yes."

The tunnel curves immeadiatly to the left, continuing on for a few meters before straightening out. It isn't long before the group is back in the crossroads. Seems both tunnels lead to the same spot.

Boomstick doesn't exactly have a degree in mine navigation, and her late nights recently playing Cave Explorer 4: The Creepening on the trideo have only led her to wonder where all the grues are at. Still, it's not too difficult to figure out, "…huh. Aright. That way's th'last way…" she points with her shotgun down the straight ahead path. Saving the best for last. "…never did write out m'will…" she grumbles.

Carpenter won't admit he's the confused one himself; he has the Orientation system in this group, after all. He manages to keep his mouth shut for some time as Boomstick manages to find the right way, before nodding. "Well.. glad ya got this worked out." He pauses. "Like ya even know a Lawyer.:

Well if I don't make it out of here, you take my stuff. If you take mine and I take yours. Otherwise we both die…the land lady can get the suprise of her life before she sells my rifles for bathroom mats and shower curtains…" Hunni mutters, following along.

Brock is hurt but follows the group he has his shotgun ready and is always on guard for a sneak attack.

The final path seems long. It might not /really/ be long, but it probably feels that way for the worried group. When they finally come out of that tunnel, this room looks more like a dungeon then anything that should be in the mines. And the smell… the smell of death, rot, fresh and old blood. There are a few rough manacle in the wall, and people are chained to them, a few still alive, if missing parts of their limbs and body and looking like they might die very soon. In this room… is another one of those large, furred humanoids, and there are five people, and they're wearing what looks like security armor… two of them have assault rifles, one has pistols, one has an SMG, and the other has a katana.

Commlink-Fusilier> Carpenter says, "Everyone, slowly, slowly, move toward the door."

Commlink-Broadsword> Boomstick says, "'e ain't shootin' neither…"

Hunni frowns and narrows her eyes as she takes something in, looking closer at the men no longer reacting. "Hold fire!" she yells, "They're out of it, possibly catatonic…" she announces. "Move slow, talk calm and if need be take their weapons from them. I think plugging this thing helped."

Commlink-Longbow> Hunni says, "Hold fire!"

Boomstick's ejection port is still smoking, the husks of the three slugs she'd fired not even having hit the ground yet. Carpenter's shouting stays her trigger finger, even if her eyes are on Hunni more than anything else. Maybe that's why she's so distracted, or perhaps the handful of small-caliber munitions that had pierced her armor and flesh beneath. She remains standing, breathing slowly since that kind of hurts to do, and blinks at her injured partner-and-more's outburst. "…fuck me sideways…" she grumbles and starts moving towards the man that filled her full of holes.

Commlink-Fusilier> Carpenter says, "Copy… All right. I've got one superflash. I'm setting it up for an impact deadman switch."
Commlink-Fusilier> Carpenter says, "They shoot, I drop it, and we run. This is bonus work. If there's any more of those bastards out there, I'd rather risk driving out than engaging them."

The five men just continue standing there, staring off into… probably their own thoughts if they can still process them. Their weapons are lowered, but not dropped. The room is still, even the ones chained to the walls not really stirring.

«Plot» Boomstick disarms the man that filled her full of holes, then tries to tip him over. <.<

«Plot» Hunni will do similar. But she'll take all the weapons, Katana too.

«Plot» Carpenter does the dsame; disarming the target.

«Plot» Argos says, "They have a firm grip on their weapons, but with a little insistance, they finally release them, still staring off into space."

«Plot» Boomstick waits 'til everyone's disarmed, then tries to tip her guy over. <.< Poke.

Carpenter keeps his weapon up, breathing heavily, wincing as he feels the armor he wears soak slightly with blood. After a few moments of no reaction, he takes one step forward, then another, slowly approching one of the rifleman, and griping his rifle. "Sir." He says, slowly. "I'm goin' t' need your weapon." He purses his lips, sweat dripping off of his forehead, before the weapon finally is pulled out, with a sigh of releif. He does the same for the other rifleman. "All right…" He says, before he wobbles a bit, putting a hand on the wall, and taking a deep breath. "All right. Oh, /God/, tell me this is bleedin' over." He looks to the others, then to the people chained up. "Lets… get everyone out there, and see if comms are back."

«Plot» Boomstick says, "OH. OH. I want to borrow that katana. And. Skin the wendigo. And make a hat."

Having disarmed her people the sniper taps Boomstick on the shoulder and then points to boomstick's own wounds. "Patch yourself up, then have a look at me?" Hunni says and then tosses the 'borrowed' weapons aside and out of reach in a pile. Although if that katana is dikoted she'll hand onto it and move to start checking the chained people.

Boomstick wobbles as she's patted, then shivers and sighs. "…lemme see yer katana real quick… 'm gonna… take it's 'ead an' bring it back wit us.. see if our Jay gives us a bonus fer it…" she looks at white wendy, as if it's going to get back up. "…an… I'll patch us up… upstairs. It's not sanitary down 'ere… bet they got an infirmary."

«Plot» Argos says, "Comms are still down. Two of the people shackled are still alive but in dire need of medical attention. The five men still don't respond, they're almost comma like. Christian… when you approach him, he looks up at you, right up into your eyes. His entire right cheek is missing, you can see his jaws. He watches you and almost seems to realize something… right before the light in his eyes dim and he lets out one long, last sigh."

«Plot» Boomstick takes monkey paws, gets us all upstairs. "Is there an infirmary?"

«Plot» Argos says, "More then likely, but you're not sure where it might be"

«Plot» Argos says, "Probably close by though"

«Plot» Boomstick would assume in the administration building. "Unless this place is built like a frontier town and there's a clinic."

Carpenter checks the men chained up for a moment, still wincing as the girls talk about first aid. "I'm fine. Bloody lucky, an' I've had worse. We've got badly wounded, over 'ere…" He says, before moving over to Christian, swallowing for a moment, fighting back the reflexive bout of horror and digust as he looks right back at the man… before that sigh.

He's silent for a few moments more, pausing, before calmly moving to help the others. "It is debatable, but there are two options." He says, almost to himself. "Either God has been banished from here, or 'e was never on scene in th' first place."

Commlink-Longbow> Hunni says, "Broadsword, see if you can patch or stabilize the most critical ones first, Fusilier? Can you get up stairs and signal our extraction? We wont get all of them out in our vehicle."

Commlink-Broadsword> Boomstick says, "I ain't treatin' anyone down 'ere. We're gettin' upstairs an' into fresh air."

Commlink-Fusilier> Carpenter says, "It's a large vehicle, but you're right. Not alive, in any rate. Belay that, 'owever. We get them out a' 'ere first. Too many suprises in this cave, an' I don't want to leave anyone down 'ere for th' creepycrawlies. Up we all go."

«Plot» Argos says, "So you'll be carrying the two barely alive people back up?"

«Plot» Argos says, "If so, then pose it! Back to the lift. Carp, if you want to signal extraction, you'll have to drive out a few miles to get a signal"

Carpenter would move to collect one of the chained men, leading another of the troopers up by the hand to the lift, before they can come up all at once. If they would take more than one trip, he wouldn't be moving until /everyone/ was up. After /that/, he's move to the vehicle, leaving the three in the Adminstrative Center, and driving out in nerve wracking silence, before he hears the carrier signal, and transmits. «SK Base, SK Base. Town Expeditionary Reporting. All team are alive, and all enemies dispatched. Heavy casualties among the town populace. Requesting Casevac and TRTs. Respond».

Hunni watches as the two wounded are unchained, she herself not seeming disturbed by Christian's wounds. Then again she's a woman who's seen most of her kills up close through her scope. Hunni won't carry the wounded herself, but she'll work to help guide the traumatized men out. She will however remind whomever goes first about her little trap.

Boomstick gathers up her monkeypaws and starts for the surface. "…gotta be a bloody clinic or sumfin 'ere…" She's in no shape to carry anyone herself, really, and probably shouldn't be administering first aid but here's hoping there's a cleaner place to work, and a stash of alcohol.

«Plot» Argos says, "Brock will carry one up as well. You eventually manage to find a clinic nearby, and its pretty much abandoned as its very close to ground zero. Most of the medical supplies have been looted as well. You're able to get everyone there, but unfortunatly, the person Carpenter was carrying in expired before you got to the clinic, her wounds were far to severe for the move."

«Plot» Boomstick says, "Does being in the clinic negate condition modifiers at least?"

Its about an hour before someone arrives to the call. A helicopter flies in (thankfully not struck down by lightning), touching down near the center of town. The door slides open and a few swat troops pile out, their weapons at the ready before their ranking officer steps out, looking around for the group. Once they're located, him and his escort approaches and looks over the group with just a /little/ hint of distaste. As with most people, he didn't see any reason to hire someone to do a job he could have done. Still, the look fades quickly as its obvious they've been through hell and back. "What's the situation?"

«Plot» Argos says, "It should, yes"

When the other woman expires Hunni seems to have gone back to her cold proffesional self. She closes the woman's eyes and then leaves her aside, unless there's a blanket to cover her form with. "Get our evac, get the team in here so we can go home…" she says slowly to Carpenter, and then leaves him to talk while she goes to assist Boomstick.

Carpenter drives in as he sees the helicopter come in, arriving shortly before, and stepping out as he's slowly bleeding. He feels the air of the rotors wash over his face as he looks at the ranking officer, quietly. "There are some ones alive in th' buildin's, sir. Last time we checked. Civilians scared out a' their minds. We've got armed corpses around th' wharehouse an' refinery, an' two dead furred creatures I don't know what in th' 'ell they are. Christian is dead."

Boomstick is no doctor. She's got enough trouble trying to clean her wounds, let alone fix them. She does a shitty patch job on herself, to staunch the bleeding, and hopes she doesn't cause more damage. She does what she can for Hunni, also. One of the two wendigopaws she'd recovered she tosses at the feet of the ranking officer, before slumping back into the seat she'd been occupying. Not a word is said.

Hunni stays quiet, seemingly off in her own world, checking her weapons, the impressive Barrett rifle having it's magazine checked, round by round to see how many she's got left.

The man glances down at the paw and frowns, a few of the men shooting a glare to the redhead. He returns his gaze to Carpenter and nods softly before looking at the dazed men nearby. "Well, now I know what happened to my men…" He frowns a bit and sigh, waving forward someone, a man that looks like a medic that starts to check the survivors and the soldiers. "We'll take it from here, you four can leave now." Seems they'll have to go to their Johnson to get their pay.

Carpenter gives a nod to the man, slowly, and stands, wincing from his own obviously patched wounds. "All right. Thank ya for comin' promptly. Tell th' survivors that we're always on call if they need… anythin'." He offers his hand to the commander, pumps it twice, looking at him with empty eyes, before he heads back to the transport with the rest of them, abaondoned what seemed like a month ago. A drive while wounded wasn't something he normally looked forward to.. but after this hell, it just meant it was over.

Watered down whiskey or not, it's still whiskey. Boomstick leaves one paw for the others to keep, holding on to her own in its sack. The same hand holds her shotgun, leaned against her shoulder. Her free hand? Flask. Open. Looks like one of the bullets that'd missed flesh had pinged the metal container, giving it a nice dent. She just chuckles, before taking a long, deep swig of cheap synthahol cheapened by water. But that burn going down feels good. "…heh… 'eadshot…" she has a stupid grin on her face, and looks to Hunni.

Hunni too gets ready to leave, her weapons slung and her pistols holstered she moves over with the others, just wanting to go home, get sewn up and have a very long hot shower. Boomstick's little snickering commen earns the -slightest- of smiles from the quiet woman.

«Plot» Argos says, "And suppose that's it unless any of you want to make any more posts"
