Nina and Vollo: Rat Rump

Synopsis:
Nina and Vollo are in the Souk marketplace when Terry Gilbert, the used cellphone vendor (Nina +sheet contact) cries out in horror… he's just been informed his wife/daughter have been kidnapped.

Turns out a runner team kidnapped them because they are publicly know to cavort with Muse (Nina).. they plan to lure Nina in, kidnap her.. learn where all her safehouses/stashes are and rob her accounts blind, then sell her to the highest bidder. The leader of this evil team is a rigger named Bazort (Nina +sheet enemy contact) that has returned to Denver to seek vengeance on Muse (Nina) for some previous carnage she brought upon his previous team.

Vollo spots a lookout, chases him… Morpheus and later with the help of trinity take out Bazort while Vollo breaches the back of the armored van via a sword and in combat stops a grenade from going off and knocks the cybered ex-military enemy unconscious.

Morpheus ends up taking Serious Physcial damage from a gunshot.. and Nina does an awesome full heal with a Treat spell. First time an Ally Spirit of hers has been injured and first time used the Treat spell all in one plot.

Vollo and Nina clear the van of a few drones for Vollo to keep and then after some hard work convince the locals to sell off the practically new GMC Bulldog (armored, rigger equipped, etc, etc) van to Nine Lives (fencing) and splitting the value among themselves. (Vollo and Nina get none of this.. it was a community service thing).

Vollo is a damn crafty guy and uses their commlink to trace the signal back to their location. Takes a lot of work but he does it. Nina Mind Probes into Ceil (the military enemy fella) mind to learn some details. Vollo uses a rat drone to gain access to the basement laundry room where the Troll phys. adept is with the hostages.

Some door chopping and kicking gets Vollo down into the basement for a head to head with a Body 12, Sword skill: 8, jacked up super fast 3D6++ Init Troll phys adept. The troll attacks with like 16 successes.. but somehow the bastard Vollo turns the ties and kills the troll. yee gads!

They get the wife/daughter back to the husband and Nina Alter memories on the military guy so she nor the family have to worry about vengeance. F6 Alter memory with like 16 successes or some craziness. Pretty much the guy will never remember and be a threat.

Nina gives Cain a kiss goodbye and then heads into the greenhouse, takes her Raven form (with Shapechange: Sustaining foci) and then heads up and out of the greenhouse glass ceiling via the escape route prepard there. Once airborn… Morpheus and Trinity join her in Raven form.. three ravens in the Denver dark night sky heading for the Warrens.

Partway to her stash location she reconsiders the foolishness of heading all the way to the far Eastern border where her stash is within the Warrens.. not that she knows the spell to create clothing for herself.. she banks to the right and makes a bee-line for the Souk marketplace.

Ten minutes later, three ravens circle the souk far above while two of them turn into dust and vanish, going back into the astral plane.

Nina(Raven) dives, heading down into a back alley behind the Souk Marketplace where she lands carefully after making sure it's vacant. Dropping the spell she becomes a naked human lady in sub-freezing temperatures and quickly works her magic to give herself some clothing… bra, shirt, wool seater, thick hoodie, scarf for her face, gloves, underware, pants, socks, combat boots.. ah… damn cold out tonight.

Nina comes into view aobut fifteen minutes after her call.. not anywhere near the 1 hour she said it was going to take her. Her eyes are visible over the scarf on her face and she shrugs while her eyebrows rise. Her smile can be seen affecting the glint in her eyes as she approaches.

Vollo doesn't have his stall stocked tonight, instead he's pulled back the tarps and cammo netting to just cover the two vehicles and leave a passage between the back doors of the Eurovan and the side door of the Land Rover. There is a pole with a lantern hooked to it that shows where the entry flap is. Vollo is sitting on a crate in between the two open entrances warming his hands over a small fire. The tarps keep the wind at bay somewhat. He is working on a modular piece of electronics.

Nina pokes her head in as she pulls off the mask over her nose/mouth, "hey there.. I figured forget the stash.. I got this new spell some months back that I rarely use.. it makes magical clothing for me… as long as I don't need cash, medical supplies or a gun and such… I can bypass going all the way to the stash."

Nina steps in and models her clothing, "Pretty good for molded and shaped mana eh?"

Vollo looks her up and down, setting his tools aside and motioning to a small drip coffee maker hooked to the suncell charger. "There is an extra cup. Pretty nasty soycafe but it wakes the bones up." He looks her up and down again as he gets the last of the instruments picked up. "So those are magic clothes? That is a neat trick."

Nina nods to the offered cup and takes it in gloved hands, heading to the coffee pot to fill it up as they chat, "Thank you Fuzz.. very nice of you." She looks at her clothese with a smile, "It doesn't make them last forever.. only sunrise.. or sunset. Sort of shamanic acutally.. so at sunrise.. poof.. they vanish. Also.. if I take off something now. .it vanishes too. So I can't create 1000 nuyen dresses and sell them off.. sort of keeps us finger wagglers honest."

Vollo smirks about the "finger wiggler" comment sticking. "So should I hold off giving the pocsec to you since none of those clothes and pockets are really real?" He sits back down after handing Nina the cup and pours his own. It looks like Vollo has not washed his tin camping mug ever. "I enjoyed that last job. It gave me some ideas on how to innovate some of my tool usage. Thank you for inviting me along."

Nina sits down on a crate near the fire across from Vollo, first things first.. a slow careful sip of the hot nectar of life.. then a smile, "You can give it to me in a little bag or something I can brab onto when I turn into a raven. Something I can get my talons around and grip. I can make off with a small cat if I had to." she offers a grin and another sip of the soycaf, "I think we worked pretty good together. You get that 20 G's I put in that coffee can in the alley this morning for you from Tony? (assuming ICly we got paid already) He was real happy with your work and how I said you worked things on your end." Another sip, "He gets me a LOT of work.. two or three jobs a week at least. Sometimes I have to turn them down because I have to remember to relax and enjoy life more."

Vollo nods, "Got the money. Thank you. It'll go to trying to get my first starter drone. I won't ever be a rigger but I want to be able to use the little metal critters on some jobs. Always good for me to branch out." He sips at his own coffee and then pulls out the pocsec. He fishes around in some of the boxes and finds a little mesh bag with a drawstring. HE slips the pocsec inside and passes it to Nina.

Vollo dropped Fried Pocsec.

Nina accepts the little mesh bag with a smile, "Perfect," and slips it carefully into a deep pocket of her hoodie at the front and then finishes off her first cup of coffee before talking further, "You know more about what's on it than we do.. but I'll have my man take a look and then contact you. Okay if I give him your txt number?"

About this time a loud crash is heard, someone banging/throwing something into some sheet metal and various smaller items falling and making noise, "Noo!" a man's voice in the marketplace calls out.

The Market's attention turns in that direction considerably.. a perfect distraction for something somewhere else? Or something to be concerned about?

Terry likes to ware an old Navy P-Coat of blue wool in the cool months and in the summer an old authentic looking UCAS Navy blue military shirt with Engineer insignia.

Terry works in the Souk Marketplace in the Warrens as a used cellphone salesman. He has a variety of electronics contacts but cellphones are the easiest items to move where he is currently living and thus his current items for sale for the crowds. He can get his hands on other electronic items through his contacts if needed.

Terry is a veteran of the UCAS Navy of some 5 years, tossed out with an "Other than Honorable" discharge for having an affair with the wife of an officer while they were in port.

Since getting out of the Navy some five year 13 years ago he has married a human lady named Molly Waysley (Now Molly Gilbert) and have had two children together. Renne, their 12 year old daughter (2075) assists Terry at the booth in the Souk Marketplace and with packing and unpacking their supplies at the beginning and end of the day. Renne is a helpful girl with light brown hair that also wares a baseball cap and a pony tail and tries to be like her father. Their youngest child is Terra, a 9 month old daughter (2075) that Nina recently assisted with when the child was dying of carbon-monoxide poisoning.

Nina aided the child with Nutrition magic and Oxygenate as well as got them to a clinic for treatment and then purchased the family proper ventilation and cooking equipment in their kitchen.

Terry's family lives on the 4th floor of an apartment building (Ghetto) near the Souk Marketplace.

7/23/2075 - Nina assisted Terry Gilbert at the Souk Marketplace. His infant daughter at home had carbon monoxide poisoning and Nina assisted in the child's care. Nina also provided money and equipment to redesign their kitchen so that the child would not get poisoned again. She used a Nutrition spell on the child and got them to meet up with the Warrens Shelter in their area for further treatment.

9/20/2075 - Nina by way of Trinity (ally spirit) was working in the Souk Marketplace area on this day. 5,000 nuyen became available and Nina instructed Trinity to give it to Terry Gilbert on her behalf to help out their family.


Vollo stands on reflex and his hand moves to an area of shadow that holds a weapon's harness with two sheathed blades. "Going to douse the lamp okay? Easier to see not coming stright out of the light." He moves and uses deft fingers to turn down the wick on the old hurricane lamp.

Nina nods immediately to the dousing of the light comment/request. She stands up as she diverts her eyes away, getting a jump on not looking at the light.

Nina adds, 'I .. I think that's a friend of mine."

Vollo cocks his head to the side, listening as he slowly shuts the back doors of the Eurovan and the side door of the Land Rover. This is accomplished quickly and he then moves out from underneath the tarped area between the vans, heading alongside the Eurovan in the direction of the noise.

Back behind the vendor alley, where vendors share soycafe, help each other make change when they have 20's and no 5's.. Vollo's route keeps him out of the normal crowd.

Nina follows behind vollo, reaching up and tying her red kerchief around her face again as the head that way.

When on scene, Terry Gilbert (used cellphone salesman) can be seen turning in circles randomly, reaching for things.. then pulling his hand back. He looks distraught beyond measure.

A kid takes advantage of the distraction and snatches a cellphone when Terry is not looking and darts into the crowd and soon out of view…. Little bastard. Nina decides to make sure it's paid for out of her own pocket so Terry isn't screwed on it.

Terry spots Vollo and Nina approaching from vendor alley and his expression freezes, worry, concern, relief anger.. all in one.

Terry calls to the two, "Muse!.. they took my wife and baby girl…. they…" he turns and looks at the gathered crowed, "Please… Um. .I'm closed for the rest of the night.. sorry."

Terry's teenage daughter/assistant is crying but has the sense of mind to start putting tarps over the inventory and closing up shop.

Vollo squints and scans the crowd quickly to watch facial expressions of people who might be part of what is going on or might know something. He's looking for some clue, nervousness, a facial tick, anything. He moves alongside Nina in Terry's direction.

Vollo notices a human male in a heavy looking black longcoat, black wool cap and a black scarf around his face standing a good distance off. The thing that draws attention is that he's by himself when the rest went to see the trouble he stayed in place at a high point that offers him a great view over the heads of the crowd to watch Terry's cellphone stall. A glint from his eye, teltale sign of very basic cyber eyes without the upraded pupil covers. He notes he's been spotted and turns quickly and starts to walk away.

Nina is fixed on Terry and doesn't notice the man yonder.. she approaches Terry, "Please.. tell me what you know."

Terry pulls Nina off to the side (Vollo if he wants to come), "They just told me.. that because I know you… you have a reputation and thus.. people think you've been around enough to have deep pockets. They've taken Molly and Terra.. kidnapped.." he breaks down, face in his hands as he sits down on a crate.

Vollo hisses under his breath, turning to Nina. "Do the link thing." He taps the side of his head with his finger. "I saw someone, gonna follow." He gives the man a thoughtful look but doesn't make any promises, simply turning and taking off at a dead run so he's not too far behind.

Nina nods to Vollo, quickly into professional mode as she reaches out and touches his shoulder, "Ivarathra Mosfala." (Centering).. F1 Extended Mindlink (Sustaining Foci).

In the astral, Morpheus zips on after Vollo.

Vollo uses the carabiner clips to get the blade harness strapped to his belt quickly as he moves, left hand side for a cross draw. His eyes take in as much detail as they can. He can move at a pretty fast pace and now he kicks his reflex trigger so the world seems to slow down around him and he can take in the details better.

Vollo clears the crowd and spots the flap of the man's longcoat and the back of his leg/boot as he slips into an alley down the side of Cybered Arms.

Nina's Mindlink, "Email sent to him on one of the cellphones he was selling.. they must have a decker or something.. cyber eye on that guy? Shat.. this might be a full on team trying to score off my bank account."

Vollo digs his toes in and speeds up, trying to close the distance. At the corner of the alley he pulls up for just a moment to scan the way ahead.

Vollo spots a GMC Bulldog stepvan down the alley, back doors open and the man jumping inside. A little bird flies from the rooftop area and into the back of the vehicle as well. Now that's not normal. Magic bird? Or drone?

The man makes eye contact with Vollo as he's pulling the rear doors closed.

Vollo sprints as fast as he can, tryin gto close the gap before the vehicle gets away. He makes certain his eyes for detail on the van are good so his ME3 might catch a license plate, or telltale clues.

Vollo gets to about 20 meters from the van when it starts to peel off.. he's still closing on it.. gaining.. the van starts picking up speed and digging in with its tires.. they're matching speed when he's about 5 meters from the van.. it looks like the van is continuing to pick up speed and this is as close as Vollo is going to get.

Vollo will just keep his pace, knowing the van is going to pull ahead, but hoping this will change very soon.

Morpheus, in the astral lets the cybered guy work to the front of the vehicle, holding onto the walls as the van is racing away fast. The cyber guy (Cecil) flops into the passengers seat up front and starts to buckle in.

In the back.. alone.. Morpheus begins to materilize.

He's leaning against the wall as he materialize so it doesn't throw him while he's pulling in mana to shoot the "sleeping" rigger in the back with a manabolt from the rear of the van.

Morpheus pulls the mana around him and lays a bolt of red invisible mana into him from behind.

The rigger's skin starts to boil and pustulate over his face and exposed skin (also under clothing), busting puss and ruptured skin spray in the van.

Trinity starts to manifest into her ghost form outside the front window of the van.. a great ghostly distraction. At the same time.. Morpheus in the back is taking his big blackman human form again.

He then kicks the man out of the open door and onto the ground.

Nina pulls in pure mana (filtering) from around her and moves to Morpheus, speaking in enochian as she reaches him and pulls his shirt open at the wound, touching his bullet hole area gently as he winces. As she chants in that weird language the bullet pops out of the hole in his stomach and the red and brusing starts to shring into the hole. The hole closes up like some creepy Windego healing and after some time (not an instant spell) the wound looks totally okay now.

It doesn't take too long and the sound of the Land Rover approaching is heard. it is driving slow and steady at safe advanced pilot speeds.

Nina nods with a grin, 'You sure are tough."

Nina has Trinity and Morpheus slip back into the astral world to become invisible again… there if needed.

Nina comes out of the back of the van, "Okay… we want to leave this for the locals to pick clean?"

Vollo nods, "I got all the interesting gear tranfered. I found a comm on the rigger, wire linked to a commlink. I think that is the best chance of finding them for a transfer." He looks at the vehicle. I could use some GMC parts, but I think this will pacify the onlookers and get them to maybe forget about what they saw."

They don't look so impressed.. hard telling what they will decide.

Nina gets seated and buckles up, "This is your work now Fuzz.. I don't know how to track by a frequency."

Vollo keys in several commands on a keyboard that is attached to the dashboard. He swivels a screen around to watch carefully. The vehicle itself pulls out and up the street to get away from the looting crowd.

Vollo parks a half block from the building and settles back for a moment, looking at Nina. "Well they are in there. Should I call them on the comm channel and work a deal? Or do we go in and just get them? I think it is safer for the hostages to work a trade."

Vollo nods, "I like it. So the back end is safe for them. Now we just have to pull off the trade." He rolls his shoulders and lights a cigarette, staring at his gear. He then looks at Nina, "I think that is a fine idea too. I am going to float a little drone up to take a look in through windows."

His control and knowledge of piloting the little mech creatures isn't the best and he has to finesse the controls.

Nina decides to leave the guy unconcious.. not necessary to have him awake to probe his mind.

The Rat, now named Oliver scuttles alongside the edge of the building and into the back alley. Vollo slips into the seat behind its eyes for a moment to look around for small rat-like access points into the basement room after finding the taped up window.

The surprise of a real rat confuses the hell out of Vollo and Oliver. He has to do some quick manipulations to scare the rat off. Oliver spins around and clacks little metal teeth, his metal claws scraping on the vent floor.

Vollo nastifies with his sword… pose it.

This is what Vollo does better than any other skill. His style is not so much traditional, but a mix of formal Japanese, Germanic and some dance. He judges the troll's advance. The sheer power coming at him is alarming. But he knows this sort of attack. He waits standing tall and then at the last moment steps in slipping to a crouch, one knee firm on the floor. He comes under the overhand blow and cuts straight across the troll's gut, opening him up grievously. His left hand blade comes down on the tendons of one of the trolls back legs and slices it clean off.

Molly takes comfort in both assurances from Vollo and the ghost and moves to go with Vollo, shaken.. stressed…

Nina's Mindlink, "Concerned what we should do with Cecil…. I could…. wipe his mind of any knowledge of me and Terry's family.. it would take some time.. not a simple event forget.. but a bit of historical wiping."

When Vollo returns to the van, Nina is in the back kneeling beside the unconcious Cecil (now blindfolded) working magics on his mind.. it takes her some time.. wanting to make sure she makes her and the Gilbert family as safe as possible.

Vollo watches Nina work and then after getting instructions from Nina drives over to Bascom's apartment. He drives slow and steady, watching for debris in the road or ambushes. He will park as Nina directs.

After the magic is done, Nina spends time on the ride to comfort Molly.. ensuring her that the rigger is dead, the troll is dead and she completely wiped the mind of Cecil of any knowledge or memories of their family or of herself. It takes the whole right.. but Molly is just mildly traumatized by the time they get her to her husband.. hugs are exchanged.. meals offered as way of thanks.. and vows of friendship forever are exchanged.
