Montoni's - Dining Room
The interior of this restaurant is clean and well-lit, with a high, arching ceiling above the patron's heads and hanging lamps at the right height so that tall trolls just barely have to stoop. The floor is made up of square ceramic tiles set in dark grout, with no carpeting to cover. The walls are painted white with red and white striped wallpaper at the halfway point, to resemble a pizzeria from the twentieth century.

The layout is fairly simple. From the left of the entrance, looking inside, there's a large, wide counter for ordering and picking up pizzas. The counter divides the room in half; behind it is the pizza preparation area, and the great convection ovens used to bake the pizzas to perfection. To the right are the booths — no tables — set up along the wall. In the center of the room is an antique Wurlitzer jukebox, with plenty of room in front of it in case anyone feels the need to dance.

Besides the front entrance, there are several other exits from this room: three obvious doors marked 'Men', 'Women' and 'Large'; an open archway leading to what can only be a party room; a second open archway with a neon sign above it saying 'ARCADE', and a door in the back of the room marked 'Employees Only'.

During business hours, there are always four to six cooks and prep people behind the counter, and the same number of waitresses bringing food and drinks to customers. Also present is one burly security guard who sits at the front door, keeping an eye on the place.

The lunch rush for Montoni's is fading, nearly all the booths are filled with pairs of people or small groups figuring out whether to share the last few slices of their pizzas or to get to-go boxes and eat the leftovers another time. Pop music drifts from the jukebox, and distant video game sounds come from the arcade room where a girl with bright crimson hair aggressively tilts the old pinball machine, triggering a small chime. She swears aloud in German and slots her credstick for a new game.

With an electronic bell clinging from the restaurant's serving counter, a tall and masculine Germanic man steps inside the pizzaria, giving a solemn gaze at the crowd. It felt like an entirely different place than in the evening, where most people are out partying in clubs in this sector. Reinhard scowled all the way over to the counter until the waitress smiled at his arrival, asking what he wanted.

"Just a burger to go," he ordered with little consideration to soy or real ingredients. He looked more on the tired side right now, yet something caught his attention through the many voices. Curiosity got the better of him and he followed the oddly happy electronical sounds and occasional score beeps.

Stepping into the arcade room, Reinhard noticed the woman cursing in German at some long machine. This got him even further fired up to explore what she was doing that made her so flustered at a machine. So… He calmly stepped up next to the woman and peered at the pinball machine over her shoulder.

The cashier puts in Reinhard's order, takes his payment, then moves on to the next customer, bringing two stacked pizza boxes to the counter for their pickup order. Customers are rising from their booths and making their way to the door, and the German girl pays no mind to the man watching over her shoulder — she's too fixated on the game to realize anything else. She's wearing cutoff shorts and a black tank top that looks like she just cut the sleeves off of a t-shirt herself. Each wrist has half a dozen bracelets, and there is a mismatched collection of necklaces around her throat as well. As she continues to play her machine, she stomps her ankle boots to celebrate both successes and failures.

Entertained both by the pinball plinging and shooting all over in a vibrant display of sounds, colours and rising multipliers, as well how the shorter, casually dressed woman acted, swore and danced on the spot. Reinhard also happens to be in a t-shirt, along this one still had its sleeves and was in white. On the other hand, it looked both cheap and a size too small from the way it was tightly hugging his strong torso like cotton spandex. No doubt it would rip if he flexed too hard.

He tried to remain quiet for a while. Yet the higher the woman got the score, the more intense it all became. When she would score an extra ball he forgot he was standing right behind her, cheering out loud for her. "Sehr schn!" The voice was a deep baritone and quite striking when bursting out from nowhere.

Just as the man speaks, the girl reaches a hand up to scratch at her tattooed shoulder between rounds, causing her jewelry to clatter as it slides down her forearm. Both arms are fullly tattooed with black linework all the way down to her knuckles which read 'A-L-P-T' and 'R-A-U-M.' Her hair is cut in such a way that the back is trimmed very short but the bangs hang past her chin, so her face has been hidden until she turns to look at Reinhard over her shoulder past dyed-red bangs that hang in front of her face…

«Plot» Simone says, "Simone is surprised, but doesn't overreact. She remains at the pinball machine, but is now self-conscious."

The girl doesn't reply. She simply turns back to the machine and sends the next ball onto the field, but her body language is much less enthusiastic now, standing still with her shoulders slouched forward and her head hung low to let her hair fall in front of her face.

As the woman's body language noticably changed after he had his outburst, Reinhard gave an apologetic nod of his head when she looked at him over her shoulder. Instead of being some creep, he stepped up next to the machine and looked more closely at the electronical doodads beneath the glass. "What is this machine?" he questioned in English to seem more of a stranger than being straight up buddy-buddy by going all German. He was a starnger after all. His question was genuine though and his deep brown eyes had a childish glow, as well an enthralled mystery regarding the pinball machine. Had he actually never seen one before, despite having grey stripes in his short dirty blonde hair?

Simone finally speaks, making it clear that German is her her native language. "…An old pinball machine…" The girl makes it a point to stare down at the table, her hips and shoulders moving as she leans into each hit of the flippers. She nearly makes a skill shot for multi-ball but fails and gets a game over. The high score list scrolls across the upper screen, offering the chance to enter her initials but she turns away from the machine with a grimace. "Shit. Oh well… It's all yours." She reaches for a leather jacket to the side of the machine and leaves the man to play if he wants. (German)

«Plot» Simone says, "I only walk as far as the entrance to the arcade."

Reinhard had certainly been intrigued by the machine, but only to the point that he noted its name to the more vague parts of his memory, stepping back when the tattooed woman did. She spoke fluent German which was the first case Reinhard had heard anyone use it. He stepped along back towards the restaurant, peering at the back of Simone, trying to figure out who she was just from the looks. Just from her appearance, it was possible to make a few assumptions that might come back to bite him later. "How peculiar to come across another German in a place as Denver, outside of Lofwyr's corps," he pointed out in German while looking over towards the serving counter to see if his food was ready.

«Plot» Simone says, "There are two thugs at the counter, an ork and a human. The ork is blocking the view of the other from Reinhard but Simone spots something and ducks back behind the wall of the arcade room."

Reinhard nearly stumbled into Simone as she had stopped so suddenly at the door, coming to a full stop himself as well. He furrowed his fuzzy large eyebrows and leaned in to look around the doorframe, spotting the ork. The husky German went quiet and waited to see what might happen, as he didn't see what Simone might have.

The German girl turns her head toward the exit as she gets to the door into the main room, then instantly backpedals, taking a position against the wall in the arcade and starts to slip her jacket on. She looks like her adrenaline is running all of a sudden, and once the coat is around her shoulders she waves a hand toward Reinhard as if to prevent him from going out, but both of the Germans have been spotted by the thugs.

The human remains at the counter, but the ork begins hurrying toward the arcade room — toward Reinhard. Simone waits around the doorway.

«OOC» Simone says, "The ork is coming right for you. He looks worried and angry — a street thug in a heavy vest (armored jacket with the sleeves cut off)."

Evidently not being as stealthy as he would like, Reinhard had come to stumble too far around the corner and now had an ork coming towards him, their eyes meeting and instantly locked on each other, trying to measure each other. He swore under his breath for not having his own armor-lined coat and gun with him, as he had only figured a drop in for a burger would take but a moment.

Simone would see how the tower of muscle spread his legs out, bend in his knees and went into a well experienced stance. He hadn't raised his arms yet though, waiting to see if the ork had actual aggressive intentions out of the blue. The shirt was getting tighter though as his muscles tensed ready.

The ork is about 6'8" — a few inches shorter than Reinhard — and is easily just as bulky. He seems to be intending to force the German back into the arcade, and since the restaurant is empty except for the cashier and the cooks he doesn't seem worried about being spotted as he pulls a knife from a sheath on his belt. He holds it close so that only Reinhard can see it, but it is definitely meant to be an attempt at intimidation. The other man remains at the counter speaking quietly to the cashier who nods with a fearful expression.

Reinhard does in fact not back off from the ork as he approaches with a knife. He steps right up to the challenge and makes himself appear even bigger, finally lifting his hands at a ready, now that he is well aware that a knife happens to be involved. He had failed at trying to scare the thug off, so he knew this would end up bad, especially without any back-up to also handle the second thug, were he to try and fight.

So instead he grunts and backs off into the arcade room, trying to ignore Simone as he walks back inside.

The ork follows Reinhard at a distance, letting the bigger man move back into the arcade before he approaches the door. "Get the fuck back in there," the ork growls. He holds the knife in a tight grip, keeping it close to his body so that a casual glance wouldn't reveal it if someone were to enter the pizzeria, but it's clearly visible to Reinhard. "Move!" He thrusts his chest out and keeps closing the distance as Reinhard moves back. Simone is just inside the door out of sight, and has pulled a small canister from a pocket of her jacket — a small black cylinder that fits in her fist, and her forefinger is positioned on the top.

Reinhard backs up all the way until the loud 'clunk' is heard from him backing right into the pinball machine, coming to a stop before tipping the whole thing over from tripping over it.

The ork comes up to the arcade door slowly, peering in without putting his head through the doorway. Once Reinhard moves past her to bump into the pinball machine, she jumps out of hiding and from just out of the ork's reach, she sprays a jet of liquid at the thug's face. She holds the canister in both hands, and it hisses as it sprays, while Simone tries to get further back into the arcade in the hopes of putting a few of the machines between herself and the ork.

«Plot» Simone says, "The kick causes the ork to lose his grip on the knife. It tumbles to the floor and ends up just behind Reinhard."

The sound of the cash registers is audible from the arcade as the cashier gathers the cash for the human at the counter.

With the ork thrashing in hopes of repelling the attack he had hoped was a fist, the kick struck the hand straight on and dangerously flung the knife into the air, struck its handle on the ceiling and struck the floor with metallic clatter.

From behind the arcade machine where she hid from sight, Simone hears the sound of the kick and the clatter of the knife tumbling onto the colorful carpeting. She takes the opportunity to peek out, then rushes forward, still crouched, to pick up the blade, but keeps moving until she's behind a different game. The ork still blocks the door, so the only way out is through him… She pockets the mace canister and readies the knife, wrapping her tattooed fingers around the handle in a white-knuckled grip. She remains silent, just hoping she'll get out of this uninjured.

«Plot» Simone says, "Simone moves, picks up the knife, readies it. End of her turn. Ork's turn!"

The ork yells in a painful rage as he tries to see through the flowing tears caused by the burning chemicals in his eyes, nose and mouth. Spit dribbles from his tusks and his whole face is beginning to puff up. "Rrrraaaaghh, get the fucking money!" He yells at his accomplice to finish their task here and tries to shove Reinhard before turning to flee.

With the knife gone, it became a far easier task to do unarmed fighting, letting the ork flee back out the door, however not without a good boot to the back, hoping to send him off to his friend twice as fast. If the Ork does get out of the way, Reinhard would step into the room and look to see if the human was still there - And if so, try to intimidate him after showing how sorely he had beat up the ork partner.

The ork's cohort stands at the counter with the cashier at gunpoint, waiting to be handed the cash and a stack of pizza boxes. He nervously grips his weapon while trying to keep it mostly hidden beneath his coat, and when the ork disappears to keep any customers from interfering, all he hears is the sound of hissing, then a few thuds…

…And then the ork comes sliding out of the arcade, sent sprawling on his stomach. The force of Reinhard's kick propels the thug all the way across the room to end up awkwardly curled up under one of the tables and between the two facing benches. He groans, barely conscious, and likely won't be causing any more trouble for a long, long time.

1 2 4 7 = 1 Success

«OOC» Reinhard says, "Ah, it counted as an open action? Or complex?"

«OOC» Simone says, "At the VERY least, it's a Simple action, just to balance out the fact that a successful intimidation could provide an advantage, so you won't be able to melee attack this turn. Still checking on an exact ruling though."

«OOC» Reinhard says, "Heh, don't know if I'd be able to get into melee range anyway."

«OOC» Simone says, "You would. This is a small place and you can travel 12 meters per turn, walking. You want to approach him? You can walk right up to him, sure, but you'll be limited to only Free and Simple actions. You have one Simple Action left, to be specific. (I'm counting the Intimidation attempt as a Simple as well)"

«Plot» Reinhard would approach the thug at the cashier.

Reinhard stomped closer and closer to the human by the counter, trying to scare the man off after having just put on a show of sending the ork flying to a table. The German towered over the other thug but without any visible weapon, the man seemed to stand firm as they came into melee range of each other.

Simone comes up to the door of the arcade and peeks into the main room, head spinning from the crumpled up ork who groans in pain under a table to the giant German just walking right up to the other thug. The gun in the thug's belt is the entire reason she ducked back into the arcade in the first place, so she watches Reinhard approach the man with some concern. "Idiot," she calls out to Reinhard, "he's got a fucking gun!" She grips the picked-up knife still, and watches from her hiding place, unable to take her eyes away. (German)

The cashier still has the register open and is stacking any corp scrip they may have gotten, though there is hardly more than thirty or forty dollars worth — just the minimum amount needed to make change since most of the purchases have been done with credit, obviously. He draws his gun and points it between the cashier and then Reinhard, the German giant and quickly leans over the counter to snatch a handful of the bills, sending the rest scattering to the floor. "I said gimme the goddamn money!" The cashier winces and squeaks in surprise, raising her hands up, and the thug then grabs a pizza box and begins running toward the door with a final glance at his downed buddy. He doesn't fire, he simply charges through the door, galloping sideways to keep his gun pointed at Reinhard until he disappears past the wall.

The cashier drops to her knees and just begins grabbing wadded handfuls of the spilled cash and slaps it up on top of the counter in case anyone else wants to help themselves. She's not willing to get shot for Montoni's.

The ork seems to be trying to crawl out from under the table, but one of his arms must be broken based on how much groaning he's doing, and his unwillingness to move it even an inch.

Once the armed thug retreats out of the pizzaria, Reinhard audibly rolls his neck in a tense crack followed by a sigh. The German began to pat his multipocketed pants down and produced a zippo from the regular upper pocket and an aluminium cigar casing from one by his left calves. "Take the day off, freulein…" he said to the cashier without looking at her, biting the tip off a long brown cigar and proceeds to light it. A metallic click and strokes from the zippo is heard and by the time Reinhard turns around on his heel, its embers were alive and being drawn upon. The German walked over to the ork and gave him a slight kick to his foot for attention, "Now, listen… Security vill be here any moment because of der alarm in den kitchen, so-" he let out a stream of smoke from his nostrils and kneeled down next to the ork. "Lets cut a deal. Du tell me vat gang du verk for und where dein fruend went… Und I will let you walk out of here."

«Auto-Judge[]» Reinhard (#8014) rolls Interrogation:

The ork's pride forces him to at least suffer the pain of rolling over so he isn't on his back for the German's interrogation, and he seems to be bracing himself for a worse beating, with one knee pulled up to his chest. He's literally just oozing from the face, drooling and sobbing, and his eyes have swelled almost entirely shut so he has to try to see through puffy eyelids. "Not in a fuckin' gang, man! Jes' tryin' to get some money!" He holds his broken arm with his other hand and his chest is racked with shuddering sobs from the effect of the pepper spray.

Simone takes the opportunity to creep toward the door, collar popped and head down to try to hide her face, and the scavenged knife either left in the game room or slipped under her coat.

«Auto-Judge[]» Simone (#7451) rolls Stealth:

Reinhard was clearly skeptical at the guy's words as first, shifting his cigar to the other edge of his lips. He shook his head and pulled the ork up on his feet, trying to steady the guy. "If du vas in a gang, du vould have mentioned der rival gang to me.. Mmh, good to tell the truth, even with der ork prides."

By the time he turned around with the ork lifted and guided to the door, Simone was already far out the door. Admittedly, he wasn't looking for her either way. He send the ork off by the door and went to his own car afterwards, smoking along as if it was another day at work.

Simone doesn't waste any time getting the hell away from Montoni's, first ducking through alleys to get back to her bike, then taking a long route in the opposite direction of her destination to eventually circle around before ending up at the place she calls home. She won't be showing her face at the pizza joint for a while, and that bothers her because she had just started getting good at that damn pinball game…
