On Dryads and Possessed Tailoring: An Astral Quest

GM: Walker
Players: Conchita, Walker
Synopsis: A synopsis of what happened here.
Date: July 11th, 2079

As always when she had decided to go on an astral quest Chita had prepared the inner sanctum of her lodge with soft sheets to lay down on. Incense was spreading a sweet scent inside the place. And Kay was, with quite practiced ease preparing the candles inside that inner part of the Mouse shamans lodge. Clearly they didn't do this for the first time. Everything prepared the latina asked Walker to join her, having let him wait up in her living room up until then. He might have wondered to have been led to her bedroom, but as that bed proved to be a trap door, some things might have become more clear.

Picking his way carefully down the ladder, Walker examines the room with an expression close to awe. "Holy shit…" he murmurs with a nod of acknowledgement, "Nice place you got here."

He removes his jacket and boots at the base of the ladder and enters the lodge proper in bare feet, undoing the top button of his shirt before sitting down cross-legged on the ground.

"I think I know the way," he says with a glance at Conchita, "Like projecting normally, but in a slightly different direction, right? I've felt a pull that way a few times."

Conchita nods, "It was quite a strange thing when I first was able to project. But I was not able to go that other way I had felt…" She giggles. "I will guide you, if you want. But make sure you are comfortable…", she then says. "This might take some time…"

Walker nods, and exhales to relax his entire body. "So I've heard. See you on the other side." With that, his breathing slows and his body becomes oddly still as his spirit floats free to the astral realm.

Conchita grins as she lies down on her own sheets, looking to Kay, "You know what to do. Keep a good eye out on us." She smiles and then leaves her body behind with, by now, practiced ease. Floating first into the astral realm, just to move on from there, floating into the by now familiar darkness she shares with Walker today.

Chasing along behind her, Walker's astral form glows with a bright golden light, the elf dressed in nothing but a pair of old-fashioned native style breechcloth and leggings.

Floating in darkness, a voice issues from behind the pair, "Hello Kylan, I wondered when you'd drop in."

Walker whirls around, an expression of shock on his features that quickly turns to rage as he confronts the figure: an unremarkable human male in early middle age wearing a very sharp suit. The only distinguishing feature is the blood dripping from his hands, apparently from nowhere. At least, he has no visible wounds.

"Real funny spirit," the elf spits, eyes blazing, "What's this? Some test to see how well I can keep my cool?"

The figure shrugs, "Maybe, or maybe it's to see what you want." It stares intently at the elf, "What /do/ you want?"

«Plot» Walker says, "Since I don't know Conchita's story very well, you can pose your interactions with the Dweller as you like, including the traditional dirty laundry. ;)"
«Plot» Conchita says, "Sure"
«Plot» Walker says, "Also, Sorcery Test for Conchita, Magic Test for Walker to pass the Dweller."

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls Magic + Astral Pool: 1 vs TN 4 for "Passing the threshold":
2 3 4 5 5 10 17 = 5 Successes

«Plot» Walker has two extra KP for this quest, putting him at 11/11.

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls Sorcery + Astral Pool: 7 vs TN 5 for "Test of the dweller at the threshold":
1 1 1 2 2 2 2 3 3 4 5 5 8 = 3 Successes
«Plot» Conchita says, "Chita has 3 successes bringing her KP for the quest to 30"

Conchita smiles as she watches the exchange, "Always a pleasure to meet you…", she mutters as the dweller seems to change in a difficile way, "Do you think?", a strongly hispanic tinted voice tells her, "You never cared for what happened to your mother until you fled from me, didn't you… silly girl, to think you could outrun me…" She narrows her eyes, but a spell of silence thrust at the shape stops the words, "You have no idea, father…", she mutters… "If you /were/ my father, that is…"

For a moment, Walker glares at the spirit, eyes blazing with gold fire as he seems to tense to leap for the figure's throat. Then, something changes in him and he straightens up, "I want power, spirit. I'd love to rip that body you're wearing apart too, but I can wait and make do with the real thing after I'm done here. This is more important." He swipes an arm in a dismissive gesture, "Now let me pass."

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 1 for "First place":
3
«Plot» Walker says, "Place of Destiny."

Conchita moves away from the spirit that, at that point simply moves away to let them pass.

As the pair cross the threshold, the darkness around them is transformed into a kaleidoscope of whirling colours, which slowly come to rest revealing an enormous hall made of what looks like glass. Reflections are everywhere and as the pair wait a reflection each forms from the floor and stands facing them.

Without warning, the doppelgangers eyes snap open to reveal inky black pits and the pair of shamans are attacked with black energies that seem to emanate from everywhere around them.

«Plot» Walker says, "You know the drill, Magic Test to resist (Rating)S Stun."

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls Magic + Astral Pool: 7 vs TN 5 for "5S Stun to resist":
1 1 1 1 1 1 1 2 2 2 2 4 4 5 5 5 5 5 5 = 6 Successes
«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls Magic + Astral Pool: 1 vs TN 4 for "Resisting 4S Stun":
3 3 4 4 4 5 5 = 5 Successes
«Plot» Walker has a sneaky trauma damper, which handily eats the remaining L stun.

For a moment, the black lightning coruscating around Walker seems to press inwards, but as it starts to lick against his shining form he looks up, a crazed grin on his face. He throws out a hand and a stream of brilliant flame licks out, funnelling into his reflection's black eyes until the entire entity seems to glow briefly from within before shattering, a myriad of shimmering shards tinkling to the ground.

Conchita simply disables the magic shooting at her with an easy gesture. Instead of something deadly searing, healing light emanates from her, her mirror image crying out, then melting away as she is touched by that light. It seems almost too easy. But the latina seems to be a bit unhappy. "Hmmm… not really as good as I had hoped. I barely managed to get her down." She looks around, then sighs and moves on.

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 2 for "Second place":
1 3
«Plot» Walker says, "Place of Spirits"

As the reflections are vanquished, Walker glances to his companion. "Perfectionist." he accuses playfully, still panting a little from the effort of his own struggles. He is about to add something further when the entire glass room shatters around them.

Where the space before the threshold was a black calm, this new place is a howling tempest. The pair float in the heart of a storm, and from the clouds nearby a pair of spirits rush forth.

«Plot» Walker says, "Initiatives for astral combat against the spirits please."

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls Initiative with a modifier of +22 with a result of 29.
«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls 1 for "+26~Astral init":
4
«Plot» Conchita says, "30"

2

«Plot» Conchita says, "Chita goes first, as she clearly is the stronger reaction-wise"
«Plot» Walker nods, "Conchita on 30, F5 spirit on 30, Walker on 29, F4 spirit on 26."

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls Sorcery + Astral Pool: 7 vs TN 4 for "Attacking the spirit":
1 1 1 1 2 2 2 3 4 5 7 8 11 = 5 Successes
«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls Sorcery + Astral Pool: 7 - 5 (successes) vs TN 4 for "Attacking the spirit (KP:1)":
4 5 5 5 7 7 8 9 = 8 Successes

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 7 (F5 Storm Reaction) + 7 (astral combat pool) vs TN 4 for "Defense":
1 1 1 2 2 2 3 3 3 4 4 5 5 7 = 5 Successes

«Plot» Walker will lump for KP=Force. Seems like the theme for AQs.

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 7 (F5 Storm Reaction) + 7 (astral combat pool) - 5 vs TN 4 for "Defense KP1/5":
1 2 2 3 5 5 9 13 16 = 5 Successes
«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 7 (F5 Storm Reaction) + 7 (astral combat pool) - 5 - 5 vs TN 4 for "Defense KP3/5":

«Plot» Walker says, "Conchita has 1 net success."

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) has the Attribute Charisma with the value '6'.
«OOC» Walker says, "6M damage."

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 5 (F5 Storm Willpower) + Karma Pool: 1 vs TN 6 for "Trying not to die too much…":
1 1 4 4 4 22 = 1 Success
«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 5 (F5 Storm Willpower) + Karma Pool: 1 - 1 vs TN 6 for "Trying not to die too much… KP5/5":
1 1 2 5 8 = 1 Success

«Plot» Walker says, "Spirit takes a light wound."

The latina uses her skill at shaping the mana to form a sharp magical blade she sends at the spirit. The shard shooting at the spirit with lightning speed, just to be deflected mostly by the spirits wheeling arms. Merely a tiny shard of it hits the spirit into it's mystical body. Lightning crackling around the small wound.

«Plot» Walker says, "Spirit throws a F5 lightning bolt at Conchita (Innate Spell)."

«Plot» Conchita has her spell defense up. All dice on it. Socery 6 + SP 5

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 5 (Essence) vs TN 5 for "TN+1 from L wound":
1 3 3 4 11 = 1 Success

«Plot» Walker says, "No KP left, so not much action there. ;)"
«Plot» Walker says, "Just need a single success on your spell defense."

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls Sorcery + Spell Pool: 5 vs TN 5 for "Spell defense.":
1 1 1 1 2 3 3 5 5 9 10 = 4 Successes

Still disoriented from Conchita clipping it, the spirit attempts to throw a lightning bolt at the mouse shaman. The electricity arcs towards her, but is almost effortlessly deflected by her magical defenses.

«Plot» Walker will attempt to banish the other spirit.

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls Conjuring + Karma Pool: 1 vs TN 4for "Banishing KP1/11:
2 2 3 4 4 4 5 = 4 Successes
«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 4 (Essence) vs TN 6 for "Spirit resisting banishing":
1 2 2 5 = 0 Successes
«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 4 (Essence) vs TN 6 for "Spirit resisting banishing KP1/4":
2 3 8 11 = 2 Successes
«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 4 (Essence) - 2 vs TN 6 for "Spirit resisting banishing KP3/4":
1 13 = 1 Success
«Plot» Walker says, "Spirit has its force reduced to 3, Walker elects to continue banishing so spirit doesn't get an action and Conchita is up!"

Sighting on the smaller of the two spirits, Walker flings out his hands and lines of mana spring out in an attempt to tear it into astral pieces. The spirit manages to resist the worst of the shaman's ravages, but still seems to shrink a little…

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls Sorcery vs TN 4 for "No AP no more, but well …":
1 1 3 3 4 4 = 2 Successes
«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls Sorcery - 2 (successes) vs TN 4 for "No AP no more, but well …(KP:2)":

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls Sorcery - 5 (successes) vs TN 4 for "No AP no more, but well …(KP:7)":
5 = 1 Success

«Plot» Conchita says, "Stand. ;)"

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 7 (F5 Storm Reaction) vs TN 5 for "Defense, no pools left":
1 1 3 3 3 5 10 = 2 Successes

«Plot» Walker says, "Damage is 6D."

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 5 (F5 Storm Willpower) vs TN 6 for "Damage resistance":
1 2 3 5 14 = 1 Success

«Plot» Walker says, "Spirit is destroyed, pose the carnage! :D"

Conchita is not letting up, the lighting bolt the spirit sent at her simply sizzles away on her skin as her spell defense makes short of it, hell, even just standing there she would have been able to take on such a weak spell. It was total overkill. Still, the latina didn't allow her opponent much time to think about it's dilemma, she simply blasted the next mana shard it's way. The spirit, clearly still distracted by it's recent mishap, was hit straight into it's chest and started to dissolve.

The situation allowed her to watch Walker take care of his own opponent, though. Leaning against a wall, tree or any other suitable surface to watch.

«Plot» Walker continues banishing…

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls Conjuring vs TN 3:
1 1 4 4 4 5 = 4 Successes

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 3 (Essence) vs TN 6 for "Spirit resisting banishing":

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 3 (Essence) - 1 vs TN 6 for "Spirit resisting banishing KP4/4":
3 3 = 0 Successes

«Plot» Walker says, "The other one bites the dust."

As Walker's spirit shrinks, the bonds around it tighten, and this time the shrunken spirit can do little to defend itself. With his eyes blazing, Walker pulls the bonds tight and the lines of magical force contract and then snap shut, reducing the spirit to nothing.

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 2 for "Third Place":
1 8
«Plot» Walker says, "Place of Magic: Sorcery test to resist (Rating)S Stun."

As Walker vanquishes his own spirit, the storm around the pair seems to quieten, falling to a deathly stillness. Without the howling wind, it takes a moment for their senses to make out the motion of the air around them, and the faint outlines of land below, growing rapidly more clear by the moment as they fall towards it.

Conchita is surprisingly calm at the sight of that land growing closer, but then … she has been a few times out here in the metaplanes. She closes her eyes and starts to summon her magic to fight the force of gravity.

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls Sorcery + Astral Pool: 7 vs TN 5 for "Working a spell… test. Resisting 5S Stun":
1 2 2 3 3 3 3 4 5 5 8 8 11 = 5 Successes
«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls Sorcery + Astral Pool: 7 - 5 (successes) vs TN 5 for "Working a spell… test. Resisting 5S Stun (KP:8/30)":
1 1 2 2 3 4 5 5 = 2 Successes
«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls Sorcery + Astral Pool: 1 vs TN 4 for "Resisting 4S Stun":
3 3 4 4 4 5 17 = 5 Successes
«Plot» Walker says, "Reduced to L Stun, which trauma damper eliminates."

Conchita slowly breaks the momentum of her fall, almost too calmly doing it. The floor down there comes closer and closer, but at the same time she decellerates steadily. In the end she lands softly, not even a sound heards, but then … she is an adept with the traceless walk power. She never makes a sound walking.

"Shitshitshit!" is all Conchita hears from Walker as her magic bears her safely down. Lacking her experience of the metaplanes, the elf reflexively attempts to levitate himself, which works reasonably well but results in his levitating form careening through the branches of a nearby tree. The shaman doesn't seem overly bothered by the couple of scratches he picks up on the way through however, and grins giddily at Conchita as he brings himself in to land nearby.

"Gonna need some practice doing that trick here," he remarks, "Doesn't seem to work quite the same way."

Conchita nods, "Certainly. The laws of magic work differently here. Try to conjure for one…" She winks.

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 2 for "Fourth place":
3 11

«Plot» Place of Knowledge.

Walker lets out a hollow laugh, "Hard pass. I don't know much about wherever this is… if it even is a 'where'. But I know enough not to try that." He grins for a moment before casting around for the next challenge, looking slightly puzzled.

"No walking trees? Living rocks? Sudden earthquakes?" He glances to Conchita with a puzzled look, "Did we get stuck or something?"

«Plot» Walker says, "Knowledge skill to resist (Rating)M, something appropriate to figuring out this riddle if you would oblige. ;)"

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls Magic Background + Astral Pool: 7 vs TN 5 for "5M to resist with knowledge… interesting.":
1 2 3 3 3 3 3 4 4 5 8 = 2 Successes
«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls Magic Background + Astral Pool: 7 - 2 (successes) vs TN 5 for "5M to resist with knowledge… interesting.(KP:8/30)":
1 1 2 4 5 10 10 13 13 = 5 Successes

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls Wilderness Survival + Astral Pool: 1 vs TN 4 for "Resisting 4M, "Where do we go?"":
1 1 2 2 4 4 5 = 3 Successes
«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls Wilderness Survival + Astral Pool: 1 - 3 vs TN 4 for "Resisting 4M, "Where do we go?" KP2/11":
1 1 2 4 = 1 Success

Conchita feels the floor, then the smells the air by deeply inhaling. It then moves towards one of the trees, actually the one besides the one Walker crashed through to start stroking it's bark. A giggle emerges as the dryad, that posed as a tree starts to wiggle as she is tickled. The little crossbow in her hand dropping to the floor.

Walker starts a little at the sudden movement from the tree, and then stares at the crossbow on the ground.

"Sorry about your friend," the elf manages as a bashful apology, "Didn't have a lot of time to think of something." The dryad huffs at this feeble excuse, but leaves the shaman unharmed save for a quick kick in the shin.

Wincing a little, Walker scans the surrounding landscape for an indication of where to go next, and eventually points down the hill, "There: a bunch of small streams meet up to become a small river down there. I'll bet we need to follow it?" He glances questioningly at the dryad, "That about right?"

The willowly female grudgingly nods at length and the elf grins before heading off down slope.

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 2 for "Fifth place":
1 7

«Plot» Walker says, "Place of Fear!"

After following the river for a short while, the rushing torrent plunges into a cave. A rough path has been hewn from the stone at its sides however, and the pair of Wardens can pick their way down.

As they follow the tumbling water into the bowels of the earth, sunlight fades and the deafening noise builds, becoming an assault on the senses. Without warning, the stone beneath the pair crumbles, dropping them into inky black, icy water that seems determined to drag them down to a watery tomb.

«Plot» Walker says, "Willpower test to resist (Rating)D Stun."

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls Willpower + Astral Pool: 7 vs TN 5 for "5D stun to resist":
1 1 2 2 3 3 3 4 4 4 8 8 11 = 3 Successes

2 3 3 3 4 9 10 = 2 Successes

«Plot» Conchita says, "Soaked to nothing"

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls Willpower + Astral Pool: 1 + Karma Pool: 3 vs TN 4 for "Resisting 4D Stun, KP 5/11":
2 2 2 3 3 3 4 4 5 9 = 4 Successes
«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls Willpower + Astral Pool: 1 + Karma Pool: 3 - 4 vs TN 4 for "Resisting 4D Stun, KP 6/11":
5 8 9 9 10 13 = 6 Successes

Conchita for the first time has to fight a bit for self control, drowning is something she is not used to. She never lived close to big waters and though she can swim, this currentl was far more than she would have imagined. Then, remembering where she is, she starts to calm and with the calm comes strength, not the kind of strength to fight against the current, but to 'sidestep' the current into calmer waters where she finally lifts back to the surface. She still grumbles. Clearly 'not amused'.

After a moment of panic, Walker realises the current isn't as bad as it seems. He might have even swam worse before. Then he remembers his astral body is considerably stronger than his physical one, and the elf glows with an inner light as he strikes out towards Conchita with a series of long, powerful strokes.

Coming up for air nearby, he shakes the water out of his hair with a grin, "OK. That one was fun! Like a water park almost!"

Conchita coughs over to Walker, "If you like that… want a repeat?", she then asks.

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 2 for "Sixth place":
4 7
«Plot» Walker says, "Place of Charisma… Gonna have to get creative here…"

Walker chuckles, perhaps a little nervously, "What? You don't like swimming in cold water or something? It's been ages since I've done this!"

No sooner have the words left his mouth than the waters swirl around the pair and suck them down into darkness, but towards a light which rushes up to meet them. As they pass through they are dumped out, still soaked to the skin, in the middle of an extremely fancy restaurant. All stripes of metahuman, as well as a few figures that are foreign entirely, and all impeccably turned out, turn to regard the pair with naked disdain. A group of uniformed wait staff approach the pair, looking as though they intend to throw the pair out.

«Plot» Walker says, "Social skill test to resist (Rating)M Stun: don't let the evil butlers throw you out!"

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls Etiquette + Astral Pool: 7 vs TN 5 for "5M Stun to resist.":

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls Etiquette + Astral Pool: 7 - 2 (successes) vs TN 5 for "5M Stun to resist. (KP:12/30)":

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls Etiquette + Astral Pool: 1 vs TN 4 for "Resisting 4M Stun":
1 3 4 7 10 = 3 Successes

«Plot» Walker says, "Dirty, dirty trauma damper takes care of the rest. ;)"

Conchita looks down on Walker like he was an idiot, "Mister Walker!", she speaks in a scaldingly cold voice, "What did I tell you about making sure that we have an umbrella with us at all times. This downpour was deadly!", she then turns to the wait staff, "I am so sadly sorry. We had prepared nicely for this dinner and then this downpour ruined all our wardrobe. Would there be a place for a woman to … refresh herself?", she then asks the next waiter.

For the briefest of split seconds, Walker shoots a glare at Conchita before falling quickly into the role of a foppish idiot, "Oh Miss Conchita I do most unreservedly apologise!" He turns to the crowd and executes a creditable bow, "Ladies and gentlemen, please do excuse my profound stupidity! I foolishly thought that on such a lovely evening we should not require one, and look at us now. I do not know why you put up with me, it must be your saintly patience."

The combination of Conchita's charm and Walker's self-deprecating humour seem to break the icy atmosphere, and the room bursts out laughing, or in some cases as close as the entity can get. In the ensuing uproar, the staff see the two initiates into an antechamber with a cloakroom.

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Walker (#12094) rolls 2 for "Seventh place":
1 3

«Plot» Walker says, "Place of Battle"

Conchita starts to rub herself clean at first atop her clothes, to get those a bit dryer, then unashamedly strips in front of Walker as she rubs herself dry. She would then start to redress.

Walker wrings the water out of his hair, attention elsewhere as he talks. "Interesting con," he remarks casually, "Been a while since I've had to act like that much of a…" he breaks off as he glances over to Conchita and raises an eyebrow. "buffoon."

He rubs himself down, keeping his clothes on for now, but seems to get tangled in his towel. His startled cry is the first warning Conchita gets that the towels and coats have animated and are attacking the pair with all the ferocity of a go-gang.

«Plot» Walker says, "Melee Combat skill to resist (Rating)S: stop those crazy cloaks!"

«Auto-Judge[1729]» Conchita (#1601) rolls Capoeira + Astral Pool: 7 vs TN 5 for "5S to resist":

4 5 = 2 Successes

Conchita growls as she fights back, the towels ripping at every touch of her killing hands as she fights back against the attempt to embrace her into death. Don't mess with /this/ mouse.

With the towel now firmly lodged at his throat, Walker gets his arms free to defend himself from the other possessed garments. A particularly nasty great coat gives the shaman a little trouble, but he manages to impale it on a coat hangar before ripping the towel from his neck and stomping on it with considerable relish.

Glancing back at Conchita, Walker makes for the door and finds that the antechamber has been replaced by an enormous vaulted cave covered with shamanic markings by the thousand. At the far end of the chamber, brilliant light pours from another archway.

«Plot» Walker says, "Welcome to the Citadel. All done! Free posing to wrap things up as you like."

The mouse shaman walks out, "I always forget how wonderful the citadel is…", she mutters. "But that might be due to remembering how I got there…" She sighs as she walks out to have a through look around. She smells, and feels air in here like she has never before. Clean air, cleaner than anything can be on earth. There is a small whirlwind blowing above a small pool and she wanders over, magically attracted to the being that can certainly tell her more about the things she needs to know.
