Plot Room #1(#452RJ$)
Warehouse on Hard Times
This Aurora warehouse still technically counts as a building, but it's seen better days. There are gaps in the walls where starlight seeps in and heat leaks out. Or it would, if there were any heat in here. At least there's enough wall left to block out the wind. It looks like the crew is more squatting here than paying on a lease, with just some scattered folding tables and chairs, camp stoves and coffee pots, and the like. There's also a big transport truck parked behind one of the rolling doors.
«Plot» Kylie says, "Ok, Frankie is not coming, too many people for her. I think I can manage 6 ok though. Let's get this show on the road. For starters, I can't think of any real content warnings for this, except crime and possibly violence. That part is up to y'all. Basic premise will be getting a message to meet as an Aurora Warehouse to discuss a job opportunity. I will not be spending a lot of time haggling and going over lots of details before moving to the heist scene though. Any questions so far?"
Kylie is waiting at the impromptu job HQ, along with the rest of her core crew. She's in a chair at the card table with her feet propped up on it, chugging a soft drink. Greta the Ork and Gustav the Troll are in the back by the truck messing with the cargo bay. And Hugh the dwarf is hovering near Kylie, looking maybe a bit nervous with all these new faces around. It's his job to be a bit paranoid, he's a muscle/bodyguard type.
Shoeshine is happy to show up, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, in his chunkyburly dwarf gear! He has an el cheapo Americar with more in case he needs to go hardcore, but as it is, he is locked and loaded with various gimcrackery - to say nothing of the cyberdeck all loaded up in the shoe shining valise.
Oswald shows up, a sharply dressed titan but sans Heavy Weapon based on his conversation with Kylie the other day. The first thing he looks at when he arrives is the resident Troll who he gives an up-nod of greeting before settling in.
Meztli is looking a little bulkier than normal. That can probably be chalked up to the fact she's wearing her coat and some loose clothing over the top of basic camo. You might notice if you get really close and stare the muscular elf in the face, trying to see what her undershirt is made of. She arrives at the job HQ right on time, lugging a reasonably sized webbed backpack along for good measure. Her beloved bow is not in evidence yet, but there's a vibrosword under her coat. Hopefully that's meant for if things go sideways. Those can be pretty messy.
Macro comes driving in on his Scorpion, dressed for discretion rather than violence — nondescript duster, only his pistol and staff, both in their holsters and out of sight. He circles the warehouse once before going in; this didn't smell like a setup but paranoia is a survival trait.
Kylie raises a hand in a wave as people roll in, dropping her boots off the table to the floor and rising to her feet. Business time. She downs the rest of her Shinobi Cola and tosses the can into a bin before clapping her hands together with a little crack. "Well, look at how many people didn't have Friday night plans. Kinda sad for your love lives, I guess. But we're all here too, so we're all in it together. Besides, it just means it's a good night to make some NuYen, everyone needs that, right? Especially if you want to impress a date. So, ok then, down to the issue of the night. You've all heard of the memory chip shortage spiking prices, right? Well, I just happen to have intel on a particular location that's overstocked on goodies of that nature. It's a seller's market right now, and wouldn't it be better if we got to be the sellers? So, if you're in, I need a crew to help liberate the goods and get them from their place to ours. I've got the truck for the job, and a driver, but I need the security specialists. That's you guys."
Macro listens, then nods. "So ya need us ta get in, snag the goods, haul 'em to the getaway truck and get out?" he summarizes. "Sounds straightforward enough."
Shoeshine demonstratively rummages into his valise, and what do you think he has under there? Why, it's a cyberdeck! Just the thing for getting into the kind of all-together networked security systems. And underneath there, there's some electronics microtools, a lockpick set if someone goes dreadfully low tech, you know the stuff. "I think I'm equipped to open doors."
"That sounds like something I'm prepared for," Meztli agrees easily, looking between those gathered. "My dance partner was supposed to be here with us, but she had another engagement. So my Friday nightt is sadly empty. Maybe I'll take her to a nice dinner afterward, hm?"
Meztli just grins, nodding at Kylie before turning her head to scan the rest of the runners gathered around her with slightly more than professional curiosity. "Mask up if you've got it. If you get busted on camera robbing the Best Buy no one will let you live it down."
Oswald nods as he considers, pulling out his Balklava as well at Meztli's prompt "That makes sense. And moving a lot of cargo with quickness I'm good for that. Can do a reasonable impression of a forklift."
«Plot» Kylie says, "Ok, I'm thinking smash cut to the scene of the crime, just to keep things moving and get this wrapped up tonight. I'm going to update the room desc and do another plot pose, but go ahead and speak up if there's anything you need to backtrack on to ask or prepare."
Plot Room #1(#452RJ$)
Suburban Strip Mall (Security Rating B)
This area is off to the side of the suburbs in the CAS sector of Denver, a commercial strip that includes this little strip mall area. The main spot of interest for tonight is the Matrix Shack, an electronics store sandwiched in between The Gorge, a discount clothing store, and a Burger Fortress, a fast food joint that sells soy burgers and noodles. The parking lot is nearly empty now, with everything being closed at this time of night. There is a security booth with guards in it watching the lot though, the glow of screens displaying the security camera feeds illuminating it. Light poles illuminating the lot leave the area in what counts as Partial Light.
All aboard who's going aboard. Greta drives the truck and Gunther rides in the back, along with anyone else not taking their own set of wheels. Good thing it's a big truck, but there may have to be some lap sitting once the target cargo is on board. Greta stops the truck and kills the engine, and points down the road and across the main street here at a strip mall housing a Matrix Shack store. "The goods are in there, just offloaded this afternoon and they should still be in their shipping crates. We'll need a way around the guards and to the the loading dock if we're going to use this truck to carry them out. But security needs to be handled first. Let us know when you're ready, and where to meet you."
Shoeshine totally steals Macro's idea and while he's wearing a facemask, he also rustles his coveralls and jacket around to look janitorial - he's even got cleaning supplies! But he does find a coffeeshop to jack in and see if he can get into the strip mall's camera system to loop the cameras. Gotta hope that there's no PANICBUTTON - those are hard wired, but if they went cheap, he has a chance.
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Does the strip mall have a back entrance and is it similarly personally guarded?"
«Plot» Kylie says, "Yes, there is going to be a back area, you just can't see it from here yet. When you go look, I have an update for the room desc prepared."
Meztli is wearing her camo and face mask. She's not posing as a janitor, it seems, but planning to sneak around the outside on her own. "Double check your comms are on the right frequency." A beat. "I can hop out and take a look around for any security measures. The janitorial crew can draw security's attention if they start patrolling, but I should be fine. Check for any alternate routes inside and circle back. Anyone else feel like prowling around?"
«Plot» Kylie says, "Also, I'm calling their matrix system a 5(Green), to match the ratings of their maglocks."
«Plot» Kylie says, "Did you have a list of objectives, besides looping cameras?"
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "1. looping cameras 2. interdict anything that calls outside to get more cops on site."
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls Computers + 5 vs TN 5 for "green 5,threshhold 2, hacking pool 5.":
1 2 2 2 2 2 4 5 8 11 15 = 4 Successes
«Plot» Kylie says, "Ok, you got two successes over the threshold, so that's enough to cover both of those. There is a PanicButton hookup here, including a wireless receiver for a remote."
Shoeshine pages: So have I interdicted the panicbutton, or should I warn the gang that there's an active panicbutton?
You paged Shoeshine with 'You can tell them you disabled it for now. Set it to test mode for 20 min or something, you can explain that however you like.'.
Macro has shed his duster for a scruffy looking generic grey jumpsuit and cap, and is carefully weaving a fiberoptic wire through his cornrows to conceal the lead going into his ear. "Gimme a minute to snag a janitor cart and I'll take a look around on the ground. Place like this, nobody looks at an ork with a mop."
Oswald nods at Meztli and pats his coat where a cable runs from his datajack to an inside pocket of his secure longcoat. His Darkhorse Balaklava and his Goggles are the only 'disguise' elements he's got as he says »Jotunn online. I can try to stealth but I'm not a specialist. I can check for Ultrasonics with my goggles though«
«Plot» Kylie says, "For Macro, relying on a disguise to just wander on past the rent-a-cops? If so then give me that open disguise test and don't forget any gear bonuses if you have them."
Meztli removes her bow from the holster in her jacket and begins to quickly assemble it. She checks her arrows- gel-tipped hammerheads, for the most part- adjusts her face mask, and takes a deep breath. "Alright. Just keep in touch. good hunting."
Commlink-Dogface> Shoeshine sends, « All right, I'm in the system, and how can they live in something so small? They do have cameras, and they are looped, so tomorrow they shouldn't be able to see us when they check the tapes. The guards have a PANICBUTTON(tm) (how does he say that in all caps?) and a remote wireless activator for it - but they went cheap on it so I can put it in 'test mode' for twenty minutes where the activation doesn't go to the Star, it goes to a trash folder. When it's go time, I trip the trigger on that and we move fast." »
«Auto-Judge[]» Macro (#5668) rolls Stealth for "Just another face in a grey jump suit…":
1 3 3 3 5 5 8 10
«Auto-Judge[]» Kylie (#13911) rolls 3 vs TN 11 for "Rent-a-Cop Perception +1 TN from Partial Light":
2 3 11 = 1 Success
<Plot» Kylie says, "They got one success, but that does not yet mean a blown op. It does mean Macro is gonna get a second look, and an interaction as they come out to check on him. There is time for others to intervene if they want, or wait to see if he can bluff his way out of it. And by intervene I do not automatically mean start blasting. :)"
«Plot» Meztli says, " I will not start blasting, but I am going to have an arrow ready just in case. >.>"
The guards look up from the post, spotting the hard working man doing the late shift. But one of them narrows his eyes and taps his buddy on the shoulder before exchanging some words. Then the one comes out and starts walking over while his partner watches.
Macro mutters a quick request into his comm and then smooths his face into the bored and vacant expression of someone working a crappy job for crap pay because he's not qualified for anything better.
Commlink-Sticks> "… Crud. Rent-a-cops on the ball tonight. Can someone make a noisy and /messy/ mess that needs cleaning up in… oh, thirty seconds from now? Preferably somethin' smelly."
Commlink-Jotunn> Oswald sends, « A mess? I could knock over one of the trash cans from elsewhere in the parking lot maybe. Not the usual use case for a grapple gun but I could make it work. »
Commlink-Sticks> "Somewhere visible an' audible from the main area, preferably. I need it to be not worth his time ta keep the janitor from cleaning up the mess."
Commlink-Sticks> "If this goes loud, take out his buddy. I'll handle him. Dogs, be ready to cut the security. If I say 'hell with it' that's your cue. Now hush, need to talk to Officer Friendly…"
Macro continues muttering to himself as he diligently mops the floor, seemingly unaware of the rent-a-cop's approach until he's in his personal space.
The 'officer', Mr. Blart Junior, makes his way over to Macro, stopping several meters away. He is armed, with baton and revolver. He looks Macro over, for a moment before pausing his gum chewing to ask, "Alright there bucko, weren't you supposed to be here like, hours ago?"
«Auto-Judge[]» Oswald (#14956) rolls Stealth:
3 3 9
«Auto-Judge[]» Kylie (#13911) rolls 3 vs TN 15 for "Perception on Oswald, base 9, +2 Partial light without low-light there, +2 distracted by Macro, +2 cover from cars and bushes.":
2 8 8 = 0 Successes
Macro looks up and visibly cowers in the face of his worst nightmare — someone with authority who has an excuse to take his job. "Uh, sorry suh, ma car broke down an I had ta find the right bus line… Look, I'll work late ta make up fer it, I swear…"
«Auto-Judge[]» Macro (#5668) rolls Etiquette for "Please don't fire me, please don't fire me…":
1 4 4
«Plot» Kylie says, "Calling it an opposed test, vs Security procedures. With a bonus from Oswald's distraction he's about to pose."
Oswald gets clear from the truck and makes his way with as much care as he can manage from cover to cover, getting a shot lined up with his grapple gun on one of the trashcans. On Cue he hooks it and pulls over the as yet still full trash can, scattering grossness everywhere.
«Auto-Judge[]» Kylie (#13911) rolls 2 vs TN 5 for "Copper Security Procedures, Opposed vs Etiquette Value 3 + 2 for Oswalds's distraction.":
2 4 = 0 Successes
Macro looks up at the noise with dismay. His shoulders slump as he sees the toppled trash can and the garbage flowing out of it. "… Aw, man…"
Mr. Blart (Junior) gives Macro a look that's a bit more disgusting than pitying. "Yeah, I'll bet you don't make enough for a good car, do you n-"
Then there's a big crashing noise and he looks across the lot at the noise, hand going to the butt of his pistol. "Aw, fuck… It better not be those devil rats again… Aw, fuck it. You go handle that shit. Good luck."
With that, he moseys back to his nice sheltered guard shack.
«Plot» Kylie says, "Ok, Complication averted, what's your next phase?"
«Plot» Macro will be cleaning up the dumpster and then resume "his" round, verify the location of the goods and also getting a feel for the rent-a-cops' patrol pattern.
«Plot» Kylie says, "The cops are mostly taking turns staying in the comfy shack, a total of 4 of them. Every now and then a pair draw the short straw and do a little walk around. But it's lazy looking, a look in the windows with a flashlight and a quick poke around the back of the building too."
Oswald waits for the guard to leave before reeling his grappling hook back in so the movement doesn't pull attention. Staying in concealment he waits to see what's called for next.
Commlink-Dogface> Shoeshine sends, « If we want, we can trigger the 20 minutes, they open the door, I shoot a neurostun 'nade in there, we knock them out as they run out? »
Commlink-Jotunn> Oswald sends, « Follow the patrol back to the shelter and engage when the open the door to go back inside? I dig it. »
Commlink-Meztli> Meztli sends, « Just say the word. »
Commlink-Sticks> "Do they have a way to call for backup inside that shack, or can you disable it from where you are?"
Commlink-Dogface> Shoeshine sends, « Except I can't find my neurostun grenades so it would be a concussion grenade and that's too loud. They do have a way to call for backup - but I can disable it for twenty minutes. When I hit the button, the clock starts. »
Commlink-Dogface> Shoeshine sends, « And we have 20 minutes where their button doesn't work. »
Commlink-Dogface> Shoeshine sends, « They could still call out on their pocsec. Actually, how about this. The door opens, and you shoot your grapple gun into the door and lodge it. Now they can't close the door, we shoot out way in and knock them out. »
Commlink-Meztli> Meztli sends, « Darts and arrows. Clocked two guards, right? We can take care of it before they can scream if that's the play. »
Commlink-Dogface> Shoeshine sends, « The clock is ticking and we proceed. Exactly. And nonlethal bonks. »
Commlink-Sticks> "It comes to a fight, we won't need twenty /seconds/. Let's get a look at the patrol route. Betcha we can ambush one pair while they're outta sight."
Commlink-Jotunn> Oswald sends, « Lets roll. Defeat in detail seems to be the order of the day. »
Commlink-Dogface> Shoeshine sends, « Alternately, we take out two of the roamers, I should be able to cut our way into the shack pretty quick, and we take out the ones inside. Hey, what's around back? »
Commlink-Meztli> Meztli sends, « I can prowl around back and tag the roamers, see what we find. »
Meztli checks her mask again, shoulders her bow, and heads out in her camo, prepared to circle the building and see what she can find. Hopefully without getting spotted by the guards.

Around back there is a loading dock area, closed off by a chain link fence topped with concertina wire. There is a gate for trucks, which is currently maglocked closed. To the left and right are other neighboring strip mall type plazas, and behind it are the backyards of residences. This area is also in Partial Light.
Commlink-Meztli> Meztli sends, « Got a loading dock back here. Chain link with wire on top. Gate has a maglock on it, but nothing stops us from cutting our way in. No sign of the foot patrol yet. »
Commlink-Dogface> Shoeshine sends, « I can do the maglock, but it takes a minute. »
Commlink-Sticks> "Optimum play would be ta get in and out without the guards even noticin' until we're already good an' gone."
Having seen the loading dock, Meztli creeps a little closer, hoping to find the foot patrol as they too circle the mall so that she can relay their position to the team.
Commlink-Dogface> Shoeshine sends, « We can always just time it RIGHT after the foot patrol goes, and do our job before they come around again. »
Commlink-Dogface> Shoeshine sends, « Alternately, I could just go crack the maglock, and when they naturally pick the worst possible time, that's when we crack them. So yes, Macro's plan. »
Shoeshine and Oswald wait for the guards to finish a circuit. Meztli is hiding and ready. Macro is cleaning up the overturned trash. Shoeshine and Oswald sneak up and crack the maglock. Then, if no combat ensues, we open the loading bay and call in the truck.
«Plot» Macro says, "Basically, we scope the patrol route, then once the current patrol moves out of sight of the doors, Shoeshine and Oswald go jimmy the lock and get inside to collect the goods and get them to the truck, while Macro and Metzli make sure they're in position to intercept any guards that show up unexpectedly."
«Plot» Kylie says, "Ok, just to be clear, you're not attacking the guards this time, unless they come back sooner than expected? And also to clarify, there are two mag locks to beat for this, one on the fence and one on the loading dock door. All good?"
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "That is correct!"
«Plot» Oswald says, "Yep"
«Plot» Kylie says, "Ok, skipping initial perception checks for guards. We've already done that part. You will have 10-15 minutes between patrols. First step is the maglock on the fence gate. Maglocks are Type II (R5) card reader types. So two rolls are needed, Electronics B/R TN5 for the case, and Electronics TN5 for the bypass. Both have a base time of 60 seconds. You have tools, correct?"
«Plot» Meztli says, " I have tools if no one else does."
Shoeshine trips the trigger for the 20 minutes of no PANICBUTTON. They are on the clock! Hush hush move move!
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls Electronics B/R vs TN 5 for "The gate!":
1 2 3 3 4 5 11 = 2 Successes
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls Electronics vs TN 5 for "The bypass on the gate!":
3 3 4 5 8 8 11 = 4 Successes
«Plot» Kylie says, "45 seconds down! Gate takes a few to open, gotta get to the loading dock. Call it 2 minutes total, I don't think you're all fast runners."
Shoeshine leaves it to Oswald to open the gate and moves to the loading docs! There's a ticking clock on his cybereye visuals, yes, a literal ticking clock at 45 seconds!
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls Electronics B/R vs TN 5 for "The loading gate!":
1 1 1 1 3 5 5 = 2 Successes
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls Electronics vs TN 5 for "The bypass on the loading gate!":
1 2 2 4 5 5 9 = 3 Successes
Shoeshine isn't quite as clean on the loading gate as he was on the gate - probably because he had to run there on his stumpy little legs! But first he listens with his super hearing - are there guards inside? And then opens!
Oswald follows along with Shoeshine doing his brute squad best. Heavy lifting and gate opening galore.
«Plot» Kylie says, "And another minute to open the docking bay door! So fast! You can see the prizes inside, several large heavy crates of valuable electronics. Six total, at least 50kg each. Which is why it's good to have a truck."
Shoeshine looks… for a hand truck or dolly cart or similar thing!
«Plot» Kylie says, "There can be some tools like hand trucks to aid movement, but the main point is that they are heavy and cumbersome. You don't want to walk all the way to the delivery point with them, or get in a fight while carrying them."
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "We begin moving quickly! Both Oswald and Shoeshine can take 2 boxes and move, and if combat ensues then Meztli and Macro handle it the first round while we put down our boxes!"
«Plot» Meztli says, " Shoe can grab two? Okay, yeah. Staying put and covering them!"
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "We'll be done in two trips!"
«Plot» Kylie says, "Are you calling in the truck then?"
«Plot» Meztli says, " Get the truck in here!"
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Yes. Tell them to drive casual and not in front of the guards. :)"
«Plot» Kylie says, "Ok, truck on its way. But time for another complication. Can I get a perception test from Mez, who was on the gate watch when this mattered? Anyone else outside on the dock can also roll, but at a +2 TN penalty. Don't forget Partial Light penalties for some of you."
«Auto-Judge[]» Macro (#5668) rolls Intelligence for "Low Light vision, Vision Magnification, both innate.":
4 4 5 5 14
«Auto-Judge[]» Meztli (#15286) rolls Intelligence vs TN 4 for "Perception test, ignoring Lowlight penalties!":
3 3 5 5 = 2 Successes
«Auto-Judge[]» Kylie (#13911) rolls 4 for "Stealth for mystery approachers":
1 1 1 3
Ok, so these chucklefucks over here, thinking they're so goddamn slick are cutting in from the residential backyards. But y'all spot them coming wicked early as they commando roll like idiots though some suburbanite's background playground. They're dressed to match, in denim and yellows, and are packing some firepower with them. Up to and including shotguns. And they are coming your way.
Commlink-Meztli> Meztli sends, « We've got incoming from our 8 o'clock. Five idiots with the same idea we had, matching gear, and shotguns. »
Commlink-Dogface> Shoeshine sends, « Wow. I have a paint grenade we could try on them to scare them off. But they're already dressed in yellow. I guess we could take cover and snipe them nonlethal. »
Commlink-Sticks> "Shotguns? Saints alive, spare us from idiots… Right, new plan. Ambush this bunch before they get to the rent-a-cops because if those groups clash it'll be a bloodbath an' the actual cops'll be here way too quick."
Commlink-Dogface> Shoeshine sends, « But if they shoot they'll draw the cops. »
Oswald at the heads up about incoming he sets the crate down and takes out his collapsible staff and cracks his neck.
Commlink-Dogface> Shoeshine sends, « We could hide and let them get in the door of the loading dock and then trigger our ambush. »
Commlink-Jotunn> Oswald sends, « Then we start knocking folks out till we run out of targets, lets get to bonkin. »
Commlink-Meztli> Meztli sends, « That would help diffuse the noise. It's our best bet. »
Commlink-Sticks> "Agreed. Close quarters'll favour us. I'll be comin' in behind them, hit them from both sides once they're inside."
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "So that is the plan. We hide and let them come into the loading dock area; that is when we trigger our awesome ambush."
«Plot» Kylie says, "Ok, I'm going to at least give them a chance to notice. Who's hiding on the outside that they need to go past? Those people roll stealth."
Macro continues doing his janitor amble until he's out of LOS of the guards, then does his best to all but literally vanish as he makes his way to intercept.

Oswald steps into the gangers formation from the side with a big ole two handed base-ball swing of his telescoping staff. CRASH to the temple and down one goes.

A blunt, gel-tipped arrow whistled out of the dark from a hidden spot. It clocked one of the gangers in the head and set her sprawling across the pavement.
Chippy watches in shocked horror as his gang get bounced off the walls like ping pong balls. He drops to his knees, hands up, shotgun still slung over his shoulder where he never got a chance to even grab it. "Whoah, chill bros, chill! I don't want it that bad, I swear!"
«Plot» Kylie says, "We can exit combat and narrate at this point. Dominance was established."
Shoeshine raises a fist; then removes Chippy's shotgun from him gently. And the shotguns of his palsy-walzys. "Hey pal. Nut up. You're gonna have some work getting your chuplings outta here. You ready?"
«Plot» Oswald says, "is the truck here yet?"
«OOC» Meztli says, "Meztli is gonna go back to watching for the guards."
«Plot» Kylie says, "And for clarity, we're on the downslope here. You ended this without a shot fired, the guards won't be here in time to stop you, we're on a smooth sailing course to conclusion. And I thought these guys might actually cause you trouble. Ambushes suck."
«Plot» Kylie says, "The truck will be here in about a minute."
Oswald is going to move the crates to the loading dock, getting everything staged for a quick departure. Giving Chippy and their pals the stink eye every time he passes them.
Shoeshine , after the truck is loaded with the 6 crates (and 5 shotguns) will turn his medical skills to rousing the 4 unconscious gangers to the point where they can stagger with the help of Chippy. Oswald gets to play 'bad troll runner' and Shoeshine is 'good dwarf runner' who's letting them out with their lives.
Finally, on the way out, Shoeshine will re-lock and re-shield the loading bay door and the gate, so as to leave zero evidence of their passage! Well, just the tooth of that one guy who got hit in the head with a hypersonic gel arrow.
