Players: Chiron, Sassori, Eshe, Jo, Karl.
Synopsis: The group was hired to investigate why the building where a stash of goods was hidden was surrounded by a bunch of activity. It turns out that the building was now a ghoul nest, and the Laymen Gang was waiting for dawn to burn it out. So they went in to clear it and recover the goods.
Date: February 6th, 2086
Warehouse on Hard Times
This Aurora warehouse still technically counts as a building, but it's seen better days. There are gaps in the walls where starlight seeps in and heat leaks out. Or it would, if there were any heat in here. At least there's enough wall left to block out the wind. It looks like the crew is more squatting here than paying on a lease, with just some scattered folding tables and chairs, camp stoves and coffee pots, and the like. There's also a big transport truck parked behind one of the rolling doors.
Kylie is hanging out at the 'clubhouse', which still looks like a temporary setup but not quite so temporary that they've ditched it since last week. They have added a portable heater since then at least, which helps a little. She's stretched out into a fabric camp chair, boots propped up on the corner of the card table while she futzes around with her PocSec. Probably trying to get a high score in Snakes or something though.
The others, being Hugh, Greta, and Gustav, are chilling back by the truck.
Chiron will have offered Sassori an introduction to a new employment opportunity and a ride in his Roadmaster if she needs a lift to the meet. Kylie will have been called about bringing in someone new in advance. Heading in once he arrives he comments "This is only my second winter in Denver. I'm pretty sure I don't like it very much."
Karl heads towards Aurora, having got the message from Kylie that she'd like to meet. It's cold, but not as cold as it was in the mountains at night, and the warm jacket cuts the wind chill. The grinding poverty and lack of care for, well, anything, is more of a challenge.
Another day, another questionable location. This one is at least a vaguely familiar questionable location, with familiar faces within. Jo has her jacket snugged up tight against the cold and she glances sidelong to Eshe as they arrive to the 'clubhouse'. "I always feel as if I should pack a poncho or something for you." She notes with a laugh. "Especially in these temps. For later." She's offered the dryad her hand, an affectionate gesture.
In all honesty, to suggest a sidelong glance to Eshe would involve some kneeling down, since the small dryad stands at a grand 3' tall, however the little redhead doesn't appear to hold it against the taller one, accepting her hand with a laugh, "I mean, it'd be handy, but I'm mostly fine. It's everyone else that seems to have the issue. So, maybe we should carry around a heap of blindfolds?" Shrugging, she offers her free hand up in a wave, "Hey everyone!" Subtle she is not, at least not among friends.
Sassori is dressed rather well, for such a location, but maybe that's the point? It's hard to say… except she does, "If you had told me Chiron-san, that we would be coming to such a location, I would have dressed differently, hai?" She did ride along with her friend, rather than take her own vehicle, this time.
Upon arrival, she looks around at the individuals present and even if there is some recognition there, she has her game face on. The slightest bow of her head, ponytail swaying behind her, as she does so.
Karl comes into the warehouse, seeing the Roadmaster parked outside, and feeling the welcome heat of the space heater. The dwarf, dressed in a bulky jacket and non descript black jeans over boots, looks across to Kylie, waiting for her nod of recognition.
Kylie swings her head around a the people start showing up. Such punctuality! Which is nice to see sometimes, in this biz. She raises a hand to wave, then pauses as she does a double take at Sassori. She had been expecting a new face, but is caught off guard anyway by how red it is. And then Eshe comes in, and her eyes flick up and down between the size mismatched pairing until she has to shake her head to avoid going cross-eyed. She drops her feet off the table to the floor with a thud before standing up to greet the runners more politely. Which does indeed include a nod down to Karl. This group does have quite the height and build range. It's a good thing Gustav is behind her where she can't see him at the moment.
"Alright, welcome, everyone. Most of you I know, except for you, Miss Chiron's friend? And I hope everyone's ready for work tonight, we're on a bit of a clock again tonight, unfortunately."
Chiron nods and shrugs at Sassori "I'll be more specific next time. It'll be fine though." A greeting is nodded at the others and then when Kylie starts talking he settles in to pay attention.
"More that I'm cold enough dressed, I can't imagine baring it all in this weather." Jo comments to Eshe before turning her attention to Kylie.
"Evening. What fun and excitement have you got for us this evening, Kylie?" Jo asks with a flash of a smile. She is, after all, one of the token boring human types.
"I'd say you get used to it, but everyone would know I'm lying my head off." Eshe notes with a grin, "Hey Kylie! Wouldn't have it any other way." Another wave is given, the gesture though pauses upon seeing the taller red woman, and her eyes go wide with recognition, no game face here. "Oh hey there! I remember you! I fell on your lap an— and that's probably not something everyone else here needs to know, right? Right. So anyway… Hi!"
Sassori bows her head politely to Kylie, but remains silent other than that nod that she is ready to work. She glances at Eshe, and Jo, and Karl, then back to Chiron briefly but the first three get more of a once over from the tall horned Oni. Eshe's comment gets a brief faint smile, a curving of her lips at the corners of her mouth, but it is more a polite response. Jo gets a longer look and then she turns her attention back to Kylie, "Biz is good, hai." She murmurs in a surprisingly soft voice, given her size.
Kylie waves an arm at the seating area, such as it is. Camp chairs, coolers, crates and such. She moves back to her camp chair and plots her long frame back into it, keeping her feet on the ground this time. Manners, for company. Kind of.
"Alright, so here's the situation I needed you guys for. We've got some goods stashed in an out of the way spot. Shitty neighborhood, crumbling building, nice place to hide some stuff for later, right? Well, maybe not. Because tonight there's something weird going on over there. A bunch of guys are staking it out for some reason. So I need you lot to get in and haul the stuff out to move it somewhere else. I'll give you the address, but I think you won't be able to miss it from the activity going on there. Any of you know the Fox Hollow area? Southwest of here?"
Karl keeps quiet, thinking that Fox Hollow is within the Warrens, but seeing if someone with more local knowledge speaks up.
There's an elegant flop onto a crate for Jo and she looks over to Kylie. "Define weird?" She asks with a quirk of a brow. "Like.. weird because it's being staked out? Weird because there's stuff going on in the yard? Weird because there's twelve foot tentacles and sparks?"
There's a shake of her head at the question about the neighborhood, not one she's familiar with.
Chiron listens and nods along with Jo's questions and adds one of his own "And staked out by who? Do we know? a rival organization gets a different response than a Knight Errant Detective van."
"Is there any information about whom is staking out your stash?" Sassori asks after a moment, "Any gang or corporate signs?" She considers, "Then there is the cargo, what is it, does it require special attention or procedures to be moved. How big is the cargo, what will we need to transport it?" She nods at Chiron in agreement.
Eshe, for her part, sits on the floor, legs crossed, canting her head while the brief is stated. She then proceeds to stare at everyone asking questions, especially Jo, "That's a lot of questions. Very important questions, but still a lot. So, yeah… extra emphasis if there'll be 12 foot tentacles!" She beams a smile towards Kylie, but otherwise seems unbothered by the answers.
Kylie looks first at Eshe, with a raised eyebrow. She brushes loose strands of green hair back behind her metal filled ear and plants a fist on her hip. "Twelve foot tentacles? What have you been getting into lately where that came up as an option? But no. And also no, I don't know. I just got a phone call reporting that a bunch of people in black trenchcoats are crowding the area, maybe throwing a weird party or something? But it's fishy, and too close to our stuff. You'ew gonna need to check it out to get more details. And let me know, of course."
There's a flash of a smile from Jo as Eshe gets blamed for the tenticle comments. She ndos a little. "Alright then." She looks around at the other folks. "So anyone know the neighbourhood, or are we just wandering in and hoping for the best?"
Karl says "Am I right in thinking that weapons fire and screams in Fox Hollow will not attract Lone Star or similar ?"
Eshe just stares in response, wondering how in the world things got to be as they are.
"I am not a connoisseur of the 'Rens." Sassori admits with a little shrug, "However, we would need to scout regardless since there are so many unknowns. We will have to clear a path for a vehicle large enough to transport the goods." She smiles a tiny bit at Jo, then asks a most important question, to her, given the gravity of her expression as she looks back to Kylie, "Time limit, destination, and payment?"
Chiron nods at the other comments and grins at the idea of transportation "I imagine the stash won't fit in my Roadmaster?"
Kylie scribbles out an address on a scrap of paper, then steps over to hold it out for the taking. "The time limit is… soon. Probably. Wait too long, and the goods will probably be gone if they get found before you get there. Payment depends on recovery, let's call it 10 percent of what you manage to recover. It's a few big crates, it might fit? Roadmasters are pretty big… Unless yours is already full of tentacles?"
Karl takes the bit of paper and says 'Well. We should be moving, then. Ten percent, bringing it back here and then doing the split ?'
Chiron grins and shakes his head "It'll be an Ambulance some day but right now there's some bags of medical supplies and some spare gear. Almost entirely empty." Then to the others "We can roll out and discuss on the way? Scouting seems to be in order. I can cover the Astral in that regard."
"Am I the token mundane one again?" Jo asks as she stands and then gestures. "You're driving, Chiron."
"Hey!" Eshe finally states to Jo, "What do you mean /you're/ the token mundane, I was a cow last time!"
"Not to my knowledge." Sassori murmurs in her soft voice to Jo but nods at Chiron, "I will ride with you today." She determines, "And two to three blocks away from the destination, let me out, and I will scout. My encryption frequency is…" She rattles off the frequency she will use for this run, "And I will need to pick up a few things real quick." She has to get ready for work.
Karl gets out of the vehicle, but stays near it.
Abandoned Building
This used to be an auto garage, but it looks to be long abandoned. The windows are broken, the doors are jammed and rent open, and parts of the walls are crumbling. It doesn't smell great either, old garbage mixed with an extra chemical stink. It's all dark inside too, no signs of electricity.
There are currently a bunch of people around it, standing watch or vigil near burning oil drum fires for warmth and using battery powered lights to illuminate the outside of the building and its surroundings. They're dressed in dark clothes, mostly long coats.

«OOC» Cyrrius says, "Ok, not calling that good enough to spot you, especially with lighting and distance mods."
The building is surrounded, watched from all sides by groups of men and women dressed very similarly. Looks like it could be a local gang? They do have a sigil on the backs of their dark long coats, a cross over three slashes. They have the area around the building well illuminated with portable lights, as well as some fires for warmth. And they are armed, too. Baseball bats, handguns, and shotguns. They appear to be alert, but mostly watching inward, not out.
Karl hasn't heard gunshots or screams, so it sounds like the recon patrol are good at what they do.
Commlink-Sassori> Sassori sends, « There are a number of hostiles, they appear to be pretending to be a gang at least. Perhaps they even are. Either way, the entrances are covered. It will be impossible to sneak the cargo in or out without a distraction of some length. »
«OOC» Jo says, "I do have gang id as a knowledge skill."
«Auto-Judge[]» Jo (#15165) rolls Gang Identification:
1 3 4
«OOC» Cyrrius says, "That's not a great Gang ID roll, but it'll tell you something. The symbol is for a gang in the warrens. Some sort of wiz gang in the south, you think? They're reputed to have magic users, anyway. And the cross is an intentional Christian thing, too."
Sassori slips out of the vehicle and heads in to scout, sticking to the shadows, her urban camo flipped to the night pattern. She doesn't tell anyone what to do, letting them succeed or fail based on their own efforts as she tries to circle the target building, and see what numbers they're up against. Bats and such, not a concern. Shotguns, a bit more.
«OOC» Chiron says, "I am gonna leave my body in the truck with those not scouting and go have a look around"
«OOC» Cyrrius says, "Ok, first thing you're gonna need to do is make an opposed roll. After I roll this to see what you're rolling against."
From afar, Eshe will save her potentially catastrophic drain effects for more useful stuff, then!
«Auto-Judge[]» Cyrrius (#12262) rolls 4 (Gangers doing magic!) vs TN 4:
1 2 5 11 = 2 Successes
«Auto-Judge[]» Cyrrius (#12262) rolls 3 + Spell Pool: 4 vs TN 2 for "Gangers resist drain":
1 2 2 3 4 4 4 = 6 Successes
«OOC» Cyrrius says, "So you need to roll willpower, TN6, vs those 2 successes. They are defender and win on ties."
«Auto-Judge[]» Chiron (#13400) rolls Willpower vs TN 6:
1 2 3 8 8 10 = 3 Successes
Chiron heads in, and immediately bumps into a wide spread magical effect that tries to repel him. He beats it, but something is coming from some of those gangers that gives him the goddamn willies and is trying to drive him off.
Commlink-Jo> Jo sends, « It's a gang that's got magic users, but I dont know a lot about them. I dont think they're from around here. »
«OOC» Cyrrius says, "Karl can do his detect magic now."
«OOC» Karl says, "TN of what ?"
«Auto-Judge[]» Karl (#15180) rolls Sorcery + Spell Pool: 2 vs TN 6 for "assume tn6 on detect magic":
1 1 1 2 3 4 5 9 = 1 Success
«Auto-Judge[]» Karl (#15180) rolls Willpower + Spell Pool: 4 vs TN 3:
1 2 3 3 3 3 4 4 5 5 11 = 9 Successes
Karl gets a feeling there is indeed some magic there, but isnt sure how much.
There are no active foci in the area, but many of the gang members have cast an area spell on themselves and it's radiating an effect outward. It looks to be the use of the spell Exorcism, a spell meant to ward off spirits and other presences on the astral plane.
Karl waits for the scuting group to come back.
Commlink-Sassori> Sassori sends, « Unless we wish to use a large scale distraction, I can begin to remove them, or we can go in guns blazing. »
Chiron sits back up in his body to participate with the conversation and planning
Commlink-Jo> Jo sends, « I am starting to think distraction. I just haven't decided what yet. »
Commlink-Doc> Chiron sends, « They have an exorcism effect warding them against astral interference. I resisted it but I don't know how that would interfere with my elementals. Trying to knock some out a few at a time till we have to go loud could work or we could go for a diversion. We could get bull to lick their windshield but I don't think that would go as well this time. »
Karl has a think and explains, showing off all of his high int and low etiquette 'They are absolutely magical, and the astral has been very badly disturbed from the Calamity Shard and so on. But their focus is inward. I do not think they are our enemy. There is a risk if we were to go in guns and spells blazing a thing could *escape*'.
The little red haired Dryad runs a hand through her tresses and makes a face, "So…" She begins, sniffing a moment later, "We have a cargo to pick up from a building that's guarded by people with shot guns and magic users. It's a heavy cargo, so we can't just run in and grab it, and it looks like they've got the entrances covered." Canting her head, she blinks a couple of times, licks her bottom lip, then nods, "That's about it right? That sounds like more than a distraction is needed, these guys might need taking out."
Commlink-Doc> Chiron sends, « If they're looking to contain something that isn't our cargo maybe we could do a deal. »
Karl says "They are absolutely doing some sort of ritual magic, and it does not smell like blood magic or toxic magic."
"You can smell that?" Jo blinsk and then shakes her hea.d "That's.. besides ht epoint. This feels like a very different conversaton than just 'get my stuff'." She nods to converstion over the comms. "We might manage a deal. Do you want me to try?"
Sassori is still posted up after scouting, close enough to engage quickly if she needs to but using her sub-vocal to comm quietly. « If someone wishes to talk, then I will wait, but with how they are spread out it should not be too difficult to disrupt this. I think if something was here, then our employer would have noticed, no? »
Karl says "Yes. I think we should try."
Commlink-Doc> Chiron sends, « None of our employer's group are Awakened as a matter of fact. If it was bound and sleeping they'd likely not even notice. »
"It'll probably mean giving away why we're here, but, eh, probably worth a go." Eshe notes to Jo with a shrug, "Want me to go with you? Not saying I'll be able to help much, but company can be its own reward."
"Any bullstupid reason we can think of that doesnt leave Kylie hanging in the wind?" Jo asks, looking around the gorup and nodding to Eshe, "Please. I'd appreciate it."
Karl says "If they seem like they want you to establish your bona fides, mention the Calamity Shard, and say that it is now in the hands of the Sioux."
Eshe rises to her feet, a short trip in all honesty, "Well we could just be honest… I dunno, I'm drawing a blank on this one. But…" She notes after hearing Karl speak, "I'm not going to mention that. I don't know what that is, I don't want to know what that is, and I don't think they would either. I don't think simply asking them would help in any way, and I don't think a distraction would work given they seem so organized… but, hey, lead on Jo! I've been surprised before!"
Karl says "We have no quarrel with them, or what they are doing. We just want to remove certain of our employers property from that building wihtout violence."
"I.. am not going to talk about something I know nothing about." Jo shakes her head to Karl and then nods to Eshe. "So if asking nicely doesnt pan out, and it might not.. what's plan B? Violence?"
Commlink-Sassori> Sassori sends, « If it comes to violence, I would prefer to take the initiative, and not let them know we are coming. »
Commlink-Jo> Jo sends, « If we're doing violence, you are welcome to surprise the hell out of them. They should only know about Eshe and myself. »
Karl says "Violence from surprise, when they do not know our numbers or location, and they are looing inwards and outwards."
As Jo and Eshe make their way into the circle of light, heads snap around to regard them. One of their number makes a soothing gesture to those near him, and then steps forward to meet them. He even brings up a smile to his face, raising his empty hands in greeting. "Well, hello there. I am Brother Bruce. Sorry friends, but you're walking into a dangerous situation here, it's better if you keep back a bit."
"Alright m'dear, shall we go chat?" Jo asks and then steps out towards that circle of light with Eshe.
"Brother Bruce." Jo glances to him first and then beyond him to the rest of them and then back to Bruce. "Dangerous?" She glances quite pointedly at the building and then back to Bruce. "I think we might have.. mmm… a conflict of interest going on right at the moment, Brother Bruce."
Brother Bruce looks to Jo, still a smile on his face and his hands away from the shotgun hanging from his shoulder. "A conflict of interest? How do you mean, miss? Did you already know about the ghoul nest here?"
With an easy shrug and an easier smile, Eshe moves to follow Jo and ends up by her side once Brother Jo introduces himself. The smaller redhead offers a little 'Hi!' to the man but otherwise just watches the TALLER FOLK communicate.
"I.. did not, no." Jo has to admit to Bruce with that easy smile. "But you see.. I've some /things/ that need to come out of that building." She gestures at it. "And apparently that's a problem at the moment."
Looks down to Eshe with a friendly smile, then back up to Jo. He nods at her. "Yes, that could be a problem. Whatever else is in there, we also cornered a pack of feral ghouls inside too. We're just waiting for sunup to burn the building down, we don't want any getting away. What do you have in there that's more important than the safety of this neighborhood?"
«Auto-Judge[]» Chiron (#13400) rolls Magical Background:
1 5 5 8
«Auto-Judge[]» Chiron (#13400) rolls Medicine:
2 2 5 7 9 9 10
«OOC» Cyrrius says, "Ok: Magic background with 3 successes. Ghouls are dual natured, active astrally. They can see on the astral plane, but they don't like the sun. They are blind, but their other senses are pretty good though. They also eat sentient flesh, and need to for survival. Medicine with 5 successes. Ghoulism is created by a virus, which is communicable. It can also drive them mad, into an animal state ruled by hunger. It is the same virus that creates vampires and wendigo."
"Hmm." Eshe offers thoughtfully, "You know, that's a really good question Mr. Brother Bruce!" She glances to Jo curiously, canting her head slightly, "Ghouls don't sound nice at all, though I gotta say, I've never met one. You think that stuff is fire proof, or, you know, worth it?"
"I'm afraid I'm not at liberty to say what, exactly." Jo's smile is just the right sort of apologetic on her lack of straight answer. "But burning the place down would be a problem for me." She ahs softly. "Any hope we could clear them out enough to get a few crates out and then burn it?"
Commlink-Doc> Chiron sends, « Do we know how many ghouls? We could probably solve their problem for them »
Commlink-Sassori> Sassori sends, « A pack is typically 4 to 12, any more than that would be a colony in my experience. »
Brother Bruce strokes his late night stubbled chin, looking back at the building. "I don't know… I mean, no offense, but there's at least 5 of them in there that we know of. It's just not a safe situation. And you know what can happen if they infect you, right? We have a sister now that we're standing vigil with, hoping she doesn't succumb. It's not a pretty thing."
"I appreciate your concern." Jo answers sincerely, a light touch of her hand to her chest. "And I have no plans to go in alone, but I do have some associates that I'm sure I could call to give me a hand. I've no deep desire to join their ranks. I dont even have a shallow desire to join their ranks." She considers him. "It just seems as if we are generally working in the same direction here. I just merely am asking for a bit of a side quest, so to speak."
"I appreciate your concern." Jo answers sincerely, a light touch of her hand to her chest. Commlink-Doc> Chiron sends, « I could even send my Elementals in first »
Commlink-Sassori> Sassori sends, « These ghouls may not be feral at all, it could be that these are simply zealots. Either way, they make a deal, or we take them down. No other options. »
«Auto-Judge[]» Jo (#15165) rolls Negotiation:

"I'm a healer." Eshe notes as the truth and seriousness of the matter comes out, "While I don't have anything that could help with curing, I could perhaps help heal any injuries that are complicating things? Would that, perhaps, help ease this along?"
Brother Bruce takes a deep breath, then lets it out into a long sigh. "Actually, yes, all right. But we will need to check you for signs of the virus afterward. We're trying to stop the spread of this terrible disease, and we can't take chances. You understand that, right? I can't really approve of it, but I won't try and stop you. I even wish you luck. But if you don't come back by sun up… Well, our plan will proceed."
"Thank you." Jo nods to Brother Bruce. "And checking for virus afterwards seems a reasonable precaution. It's not something that we want to see spread. If we're not back by sun up, assume the worst." She turns, looking down to Eshe and offering a smile, and leaving back the way she came.
The Dryad returns the smile and moves to follow Jo, her brows raised, "Well, I didn't expect /that/ result. I'm gonna assume they're infectious to me as well, so, even as an animal I'd be pretty useless." Offering a shrug, then a grin, "Wont be earning my pay this time that's for sure!"
Karl says "Chiron, if you have elementals in support, sending an Air elemental inside may be a worthwhile service"
Sassori rises from her hiding place, red skin hidden completely by her urban night camo and helmet. She walks past the others and then to the garage, over the comms she says in her soft voice, « After me. »
Reaching down, she grabs the garage door that's stuck, and then /yanks/ upwards, using her legs, core, and arms.
«Auto-Judge[]» Sassori (#14046) rolls Strength vs TN 5 for "Wrench!":
1 1 2 3 3 4 5 9 11 = 3 Successes
Sassori shoves the jammed door upwards, and it gives way with a protesting screech of abused metal. The bay door opens wide, rather impressing the brothers and sisters watching from out front. The light of their lanterns leaks inside, showing a mostly empty garage bay area.
Chiron pulls up closer in his roadmaster and then hops out to follow the group in, he nods at Eshe "They'll be able to see it but you're not wrong." And he concentrates to call up his 'friends' to be on standby.
Karl is impressed by the strength of the Oni. There are some jobs you just want an Ork for.
Sassori moves forward, presumably with some close back up. She opens the door in the back of the bay, heading to the northwest corner. It is dark as fuck in here. But the room beyond is a cluttered mess. Rubble, detritus, just shit everywhere. But the crates should be back under that rubble?

Commlink-Sassori> Sassori sends, « They are. »
Commlink-Jo> Jo sends, « Keep an eye out for a a bunch of little things in there. That's what I can pick out. »
Sassori doesn't immediately go the rubble, she instead looks towards the other doors. « Cargo can wait. Check the corners and watch your six. Prime ambush location. » She subvocals. She turns to see if there is any other doors to check.
Drawing a pistol, she uses her smartlink to turn on the low-light flashlight atop the barrel and sweeps the area of the garage. Turning, she starts over towards the closest door (To #2), then gestures towards the other door (#1), « Watch that entrance. » And she is going to, quietly, see if the door to #2 is locked.
Karl follows the motion of the Oni, and watches door 1, ready to meet anything that comes out of it with a blast of arcane energies.
Whatever's behind door #1 stays there. Door # is hanging on its hinges, not locked and barely an impediment.
Sassori comes back south a bit to check the rest of the building. She pushes the door there open, and reveals humanoid forms squatting in the dark of the room in front of her gunlight. The beam of the light flashes off milky white eyes, and they look up and screech in unison at the smell of fresh meat. Tonight's gonna be ugly, chummers.
Karl is three paces behind Sassori, turning to the sound of the screech, tomohawk already out but waiting to act.
Sassori takes a step back, using the doorway as a choke point so that they can't all rush past her. She lifts her pistol at the screeching and begins to open fire, suppressed, it's still got sound *thump-thump* rather than loud booms of noise as she opens fire on the two front ghouls in her flashlights aim.

Two shots fired, two ghouls go down. In her offhand she reflexively gets ready to pop her blade as well, but for the moment, Sassori is a wall giving some lines of fire to the others while hopefully being a roadblock for the ghouls trying to get out.

Chiron is staying well back from the scrum, letting his eyes shift focus to the Astral to make targeting the dual natured ghouls easier. He calls out "Somnus, per voluntatem imperatum." and sends a ghoul, if not to sleep at least for a loop.

Karl says "Sassori, would you be good enough to back away from the ghoul nest"
Karl backs further into the main room.
Karl casts a Purely Precautionary 'Cure Disease' spell on Sassori, spending all spell pool on drain resistance.
It's all over in less than two seconds, after firing two pistol rounds, gunfire goes off around her, spells are launched, and then there is a guy with a small axe swinging in. The first ghoul clips her with his claws but it doesn't get past her armor and she takes no damage in the slightest. The next ghoul that comes in, she casually drives her fingertips into it's throat with enough force to break it's neck. As one tries to flee, she steps close and with a blur of foot, knee, elbow, and the sound of breaking bones, the last ghoul here crumples in a bloody mess.
Her helmeted head turns to look at Karl and if one could read her expression it would be quizzical, but the visor blocks that. "Recover the cargo. I am unharmed." She says in her soft voice.
Some gunfire, and some blade-i-cuffs later, and things quiet down. Not counting the shotgun fire from outside. But there are other noises. A chittering from the north, and… What sounds like a gasp and some rustling noises from the south.
Karl shrugs and goes to where the boxes are.
«OOC» Sassori says, "Would the chittering be recognizable to the parazoologist?"
«OOC» Cyrrius says, "Roll it!"

«Auto-Judge[]» Karl (#15180) rolls Parazoology:

«OOC» Cyrrius says, "Oh, yeah, the room with the crates has Devil Rats in it."
Karl swears. Devil Rats.
Karl keeps the axe out and waits for the inevitable pile of claws, teeth, grey fur and a surprisingly long list of diseases and toxins.
(At this point it had gotten late, and the fight against Devil Rats got handwaved. The Ghouls were the real problem anyway.)
