Losing Gracefully

GM: Shoeshine
Players: Shoeshine, Simon, Savannah, Kismet
Synopsis: The group is hired to 'play the villains.' Some rich kids are wannabe shadowrunners and a Draco Foundation fixer hires them through Shoeshine to take the part of an imaginary executive, bodyguard, secretary, and wizard so as to give them a real 'adventure' in a little-used Draco Foundation office building that they clear out for the weekend. Their job is to lose gracefully so the kids don't get killed trying anything dangerous for real but make the rich kids think they've been on an actual shadowrun. Simon also correctly discerns, during the meet, that the secondary purpose of the mission is to get the illegal adventure on the security cameras so as to have a blackmail hold on these kids and their families in the future.
Date: Dec. 2, 2072

It's actually Shoeshine who contacts all of you for this run seeing as he has a little knowledge of each of you from various adventures. "So, like, I have a run for the Draco Foundation, very hush hush, tell no one, you want in? We'll go to the main Draco Foundation building, get you visitors badges, you can come in to see a 'friend of mine.' He said that he can comp your parking and treat you to lunch at Big D's Diner whether or not you take the job."

Simon is curious of course, and manages to have a little free time between projects. He heads downtown with his usual legal gear, and a low end physical mask spell altering his features. Along with a regular disguise under that, so even if you see through one layer, there is two! He enters the Draco building and goes to get his visitors pass and all that jazz.

The Draco Foundation? Goodness! Savannah will dress for Downtown and head out. She'll park her own vehicle in a secure lot and take public transportation to the Foundation; no sense getting a parking ticket. Plus, she doesn't run the risk of having to put her gear elsewhere. Shoe is a pretty good guy, so the run probably isn't something about killing babies or whatever. She'll make her way over to get her visitor's pass as well, but without the layers of disguise that Simon has.

Lunch at Big D's Diner? Fuck yeah! Sign a girl up and call her Sunshine. Kismet spends a bit of time picking out the clothing for this one. A pale yellow dress suit, snug fitting but not quite a curve hugging cock-tease. Golden yellow hair, dark green eyes, faintly tanned skin - a healthy color, someone that gets out. Daily practice makes adopting a role, a headspace and new personality a breeze for the magical adept as she shifts her melanin and alters her features. Heels clicking, the chic' business woman makes her way to the rendezvous, smiling faintly with the tightlipped mannerism of someone always in a bit of a hurry but too polite to make a fuss about it.

Shoeshine , like, may pretend to 'have an in' at the Draco Foundation, all pretending to 'help' the security guards who are clearly waiting for you find your appropriately assumed names on their list. They treat him about the way you would expect them to treat an eighteen year old kid dwarf acting in such a fashion. Interestingly enough, their attitudes change slightly when Simon comes in, as they look appraisingly at him and touch a hand to their earpieces, muttering something about talent. Together or separately, an elevator is made available to take you to a certain floor and only that floor where, amidst wonderfully clean art deco stylings, a conference room is found. A vaguely russian man with straight blond hair and brillian blue is there to meet you, wearing a tailored shirt and tie but looking more like he would like to roll the sleeves up and get to work.

"Pleased to meet you all. Call me Konstantin. Konstantin Kuryakin if you have to dial in to the building. Shoeshine here has mentioned that your skills might go for an.. interesting mission. We have some friends of friends who are.. wealthy, influential, and have layabout kids who imagine certain things about their skills. And we would like to encourage these children in their beliefs without them coming to harm. They also have certain beliefs about what the Draco Foundation really does and we would like them to continue to misinform themselves. So here is the job.
We, by which I mean you all and myself if appropriate, will set up a building with appropriate security guards who are all in on the gag. You all will be the 'executives' and the 'bodyguards'. Your job will be to lose convincingly to these children, who believe they will be hired to infiltrate the building and steal valuable backup datachips which, of course, you carry on your person due to their value and need for security."

Simon smirks a bit at the pitch and then speaks. "That's an interesting offer, are these 'kids' going to be carrying lethal weaponry? It sounds like a very complex problem that could be solved much easier than all this. A few implanted memories saves everyone the 'risks'."

Listening, Savannah huhs softly and then nods along with the idea behind it. She starts to speak and then stops when disguised Simon remarks about it. She shrugs a little and says, "As long as they aren't shooting too live of rounds, it would be like paintball."

"How many bodyguards and executives do we need to mock up? I can do quick costume changes, if need be." Simon wins a smile from Kismet aka Sunshine and she tilts her head. "That might work as well. Probably."

Kuryakin says, "They will in fact be carrying lethal weaponry. Not necessarily the most impressive weaponry - I believe one favors the Ares Viper slivergun and another prefers the Tiffany Needler. And yes, I do actually expect implanting memories to be a part of your scheme. However, implanting memories alone is not enough. They have to end up with a datachip. They have to expend the proper number of rounds for when they get back home and look at their weapons. Their armor has to be mussed and smudged with respect to what they remember. So it's a tougher problem than all that."

Shoeshine pipes up and says, "I'm obviously the hand-to-hand bodyguard that they beat up along the way in a miniboss fight."

Simon reaches up to scratch his beard. "This seems to have alot of variables that will bring about failure, in the sense that unless they are idiots they will see through this. I'm not sure how to muss thier armor without risking killing them by accident."

Kuryakin says, "Yes, this is why we are hiring skilled, innovative individuals," and beams brightly at you. "Some risk is acceptable. They do have medical kits and one of them is a Cat shaman with healing spells."

Spreading her hands, Savannah says, "If they are not quite on the ball, we let then "win"," and with that she'll make quote fingers, "and do just enough to make them think they are being pressed. Seems pretty easy, although I am not at ALL on board with altering memories and implanting chips."

Kuryakin nods to Savannah, who seems to have the gist up it, and Kismet as well, whose disguise and dress and style skills are clearly in order.

"Use holdout pistols and aim for center mass. That should give them the shake-up they're expecting." Kismet suggests, crossing her legs and getting comfortable in her seat.

Simon frowns "Ok, so run over the general plan for me. How are they going to infiltrate, steal and escape, if we have to pause and alter some memories in the middle?"

Kuryakin says, "Okay. We haven't had their initial meet yet. I'll be playing their Johnson. We do have a lightly used arcology building that we'll clear out for the weekend. Like many people of your station, your characters will actually live on site. You'll have a few security guards carrying Cerberus pistols loaded primarily with Gel. We'll set you up with the security systems." (Here, if none of you look to know anything about security systems, Shoeshine also raises his chin to show he can cover that part.) "We will make it clear that it's much easier to get into the place at night. And then it's up to you to set things up to guide them appropriately."
Kuryakin adds, "Also, I'm going to suggest a 'security decker' for them to work with to 'control your system.' I can't guarantee that they'll actually use her though."

Holding up a hand, Savannah says, "We are not altering memories are we?" She glances to Simon and then to the Johnson, "I've got something of an issue with that; if that's the course we're taking, I completely understand. I just have to remove myself before any finalized plans are made so that I don't know anything."

Kuryakin looks around. Simon's the one who suggested it after all.

Simon shrugs "If we are going through all the trouble to set up this expensive display, messing with the mind is not necessary. So there is not much need unless the kids go off script."

"What do we know about the kids? Are they the sort that are inclined to go with a 'plan', or do they like to… improvise?" Kismet asks softly, thinking.

Satisfied, at least for the moment, Savannah sinks back to listen as questions are asked.

Kuryakin breaks out the folders with the dossiers. "So. We have 'Cat' as she likes to be called, the cat shaman. Real name Katherine Chambers, so she has an excuse. Favors the Tiffany Needler as her hold-out weapon. Probably the most random of the bunch. Frederic Ludovic, I suppose you would call him the fixer-face. Athletic rich kid, looks good, educated in the best schools, just recently got some light wiring. He uses the Viper slivergun. Then there's Alexia Wallace. I suppose you would call her the hand to hand specialist. She's won a few forms competitions in tae kwon do, and recently got herself wired up too. She might have a weapon, I don't know what it is."

Simon arches a brow. "What do you mean by wiring. What did they get installed? Is it illegal?"

Kuryakin says, "Says here Frederic got himself low-grade wires, eyes, headware memory. When you say 'illegal'.. it's entirely possible he has a permit for it, given his parentage. I think Alexia got a higher grade of wires out of her daddy. She might have a permit too."

"Probably should keep the hand to hand person back; easier to fudge getting shot than a broken neck." Savannah drums her nails a moment and says, "So we let them break in, spooky lights, pop a few security folks, find us somewhere and they get the drop on us, take us out, get the chips and run away?"

Shoeshine says, "I like it."

Kismet listens for now, nodding slightly here and there as the ideas flow and begin to gel into a solid plan.

Simon sits up a bit. "I understand normally not to ask too many questions like this, but in this case the situation seems….dodgy. So, why are you helping these kids?"

Kuryakin says, "Let's say it's not in anyone's best interest to have them going down to the Warrens to meet up with ex-military mercs, or worse yet the ghouls in Tinkertown, and get themselves killed."

Simon scratches his beard as he thinks for a moment, then smiles. "Blackmail? Is that the real goal here?"

Kuryakin says, "Let's just say I suggest that you all disguise yourselves at all times."

Savannah watches the back and forth between Simon and Kuryakin, tenting her fingers and peering over them.

Simon nods "Alright. Sounds reasonable then."

Kismet nods a few times. "What's the pay looking like for these shenanigans?" she asks, glancing to the others before falling silent, curiosity on her face mixed with a clinical type of boredom.

Kuryakin nods a little curtly, and takes out a bright-looking plastic credstick that shows it has a credit line that can only be used for a truly dragon-sized meal at Big D's Diner. And he passes over a chip. "Here's the address of 'your' building. We can arrange a meet with 'your' security guards and you can go over the security set-up. Our decker, Jennifer, will set up your identities when you have decided on your disguises unless you would like to do that. And we have budgeted 40,000y per person for the mission."

Whistling softly, Savannah remarks, "That's a sizable budget for waving the flag. Not to mention a food budget!" She'll glance to the others but doesn't seem to be turning it down.

Simon smiles "That is a sizable sum, while this all reeks of suspicion, perhaps because I think I can understand it actually scares me even more. Though…..I guess I'm in."

"Think of it as a big dress up party with real bullets and ketchup for blood." Breaking her outer appearance of a corp wageslave and trading it for a Barrens-style quip and crooked grin with perfect teeth. "Let's go get lunch on the fly and cozy down to solidfy things." Kismet suggests, brushing at invisible lint on her lapel and slipping back into her facade.

Kuryakin says, "A pleasure doing business with you." And from there, it is easy enough to get down to Big D's Diner and order the best things they have on their menu (which are all real beef).

Beef? Pfah! Savannah orders salad and a thick shake as they settle in downstairs to prepare for this little event. She'll busy herself getting her food just right, looking to the others, "So. This is interesting, eh?"

Simon nods, and mentally sends a message to his ally spirit back at the shop. Grab a pocsec and text Merlin, run data profiles on the names of the three kids, especially who their families are. "I'm going to dig just a little on this, to verify my suspicions. It's all rather shady, but our part seems innocent enough."
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls 6 for "Computers for Merlin, the decker contact":

"Forty grand for innocence seems a high price to pay." Kismet comments, totally going for the beef, extra rare and in a thick slab. This is accompanied by a salad of greens.

Simon shrugs. "Depends on how connected the kids are, and what trouble this brings. My fear is that they want to pin murder on them, ours probably. So we need to watch for that, a bullet in our heads helps the Jay do his job this time. Remember that."

Simon grins "And saves them 160k."

"Perhaps so. Then again, maybe the Foundation just likes to overpay." Savannah shrugs and digs into her salad, glancing to Simon questioningly. "There could be that. Or maybe these are someone's kids here at the Foundation or friends of theirs and they want to give them a thrill without letting them get hurt."

Merlin texts back, "Dumb rich kids," in about ten seconds. By the end of dinner he will add, "They post on shadowrunner fan sites. The cat shaman calls herself Cat7099, Frederic calls himself Ascot, and Alexia calls herself Thylacine. Extended families of old money."

Simon shakes his head. "No, likely it will cause them to act again and again. This has to be a one time thrill and punishment at the same time. If the kids pull this off and no one blackmails them, they just later get into something and die."

Shoeshine says, "I know Konstantin pretty good.. and not to say something stupid, but if he was gonna kill them or us he wouldn't do it this way. But yeah, you're right, if they hire Jennifer to 'deck the security systems' that means the security systems will be recording them the whole time. Jennifer will have it all on film."

"Could be the end goal. Build their confidence so they go in on a job arranged by the Jay and go out in black bags and ruin their family name at the same time." - "We could spend forever trying to sort out motives, though. I can heal and throw down some armor upgrades. Sustaining it will be a bear, though, on top of trying to do costume swaps if needed." Kismet says, outing herself as magically active.

Simon has his ally text Merlin again. «Thanks, I'll transfer some cred for this.» He looks up at the crew, "Our targets seem to be what we are told, old money families, and the kids are 'fans'. As far as what we are going to do, we are going to play dead. The problem is it has to happen while the shaman is busy, probably with spirits. She will see your auras are alive."

Shoeshine says, "I can set up the security systems and stuff, and give them a good hand to hand fight to enjoy." He hms. "Can you tell when someone is conscious or unconscious with astral sight, if they're faking it?"

Simon tilts his hand side to side. "That requires a really good look."

"Knock out the kitty shaman and that will fix the problem." Savannah shrugs, waving a fork at the problem. "Or give her something else to consider, like a pack of spirits howling for her blood. The idea is to let them win, but to make it convincing."

Shoeshine says "So if we pretend to be unconscious, we have a pretty good chance of fooling that… and yeah, might knock out the shaman in the dramatic final fight. But if they all get knocked out too fast…"

Simon smiles "That's a good tactic right there. No….we wait."

Simon nods "Ok, so, they get their target chip right…just then, we swarm them with elementals, they shoot us, elementals go 'berserk' and start attaking everyone. On our command of course. They will use this distraction to get away, without making sure we are dead."

Kismet pops a bite of meat in her mouth and starts to chew, then has to stifle a soft giggle that is unbecoming the outer appearance. "Mm, I can, I can intoxicate her. Hard to cast when you're drunk."

Shoeshine says, "Which one of us is the 'end boss' and carries the chip?"

Savannah points a fork at Simon.

Simon shakes his head. "I vote for the dwarf, he can take a bullet a lot better than I can."

«Plot After The Fact» We look at Simon's description. It says it all:
The human before you is fairly pale, his skin contrasted by his dark hair and beard. The beard is neatly trimmed and his hair is short. His eyes are dark as well, a deep brown, and he gives off a sorta sinister vibe until he talks. His accent is fairly muddled, a little boston, a little european.
He is dressed in a tres chic suit of a dark hue, often black is his prefered color. He wears a light overcoat, something more for the rain and pollution than any sort of protection from anything else. He wears a pair of nice comfortable shoes, they look to have been recently shined.

Shoeshine says, "Oh, come on, you look way more like a corporate villain than me!"

"He's the head bodyguard I thought to take on Little Miss Kung Fu." Savannah sips her shake and says, "And that way she isn't karate chopping your head off and you only get shot with a small calibre round."

"I'm not a fighter. Never used a gun or my fists. Well, not more than once or twice, and it ended badly both times." Kismet says, turning back to her meal as she listens. "So wherever you want me to be, I'll do it, just keep that in mind."

Simon smirks. "Alright, but we have to play this out properly. Keep them from realizing its all a fake. I do have a few spells that will definitely char their armor, but should leave them alive. Very theatrical. So, me and the dwarf together, dwarf charges their fighter while I deal with the shaman I suppose and get shot by the last. That means we need a role for the ladies here to play….any ideas?"

"Well .. if she," and with that Savannah indicates Kismet, "isn't a fighter, she could be your Executive Assistant or lab researcher or something techy. I can play a security guard or magician or whatever and get shot dramatically."

Shoeshine says "I was kinda thinking maybe I could trick little miss kung fu into a one-on-one fight just like on the trid. She could tie me down and shout 'Go on, I'll finish him here!' to her pals while they go on ahead to finish the mission. But I like the Executive Assistant idea."

Simon shakes his head. "No, she gets her ass kicked. But, while your distracted with her, I go down, and you come back to fight, causing them to flee with the chip."

Kismet mms around a mouth of food. "I can do a great scream. But mostly if one of us takes a hit that's spewing real blood and not ketchup, I can throw down a patch job to hold us together." Not a -great- one, but it's better than bleeding out if shit slides sideways.

Shoeshine says, "So, are we all going to be together, or will I, like, be just outside, or what?"

"Doorway, you bumrush Kung Fu Barbie. The other two get by you and shoot up the Corp Suit and his screaming Assistant. I can drop elementals onto them and see how fast they can run with their chip they get off the corper while the remaining conscious guards chase them off?" Savannah looks to everyone to see how that flies.

Simon frowns, "I want this to be quick. If we give them time, they may put extra bullets to make sure we are down. Thats why I want the shorty here to be a real threat to them. Keep them from sticking around after they get what they came for. I suggest a simple office setup." He points to Kismet, "Secretary screams when she spots them." Then he points to Shoe, "Bodyguard runs to check, gets in a 'delayed' fight." Then points to himself, "The shaman and other one come after me, defeat me and get the chip." He then points to Shoe. "When I go down, you knock down the girl and come to check on me, pull a gun or something and shoot the wall. Miss on purpose." He points to Savannah. "You, will be our first line of defense. I'll keep an eye on you with my ally spirit, you will engage them early on as our measuring stick. If this is some crazy setup and they turn out to be an elite squad, we pull you back and we all run."

Kismet thinks on it, and then nods. "Keeps me close to the main tussle and out of the main skirmish, and gets the heavies where they need to be. Sounds as good as it's going to get. We'll know more as it spins out."

"Oh sure, sacrifice the elf." Savannah shrugs good naturedly and says, "Me and some of the security guards will give them what's for I guess and see what happens."

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "All right! We have a plan, we move forwards to implementation. Disguises! You design your disguises and submit them to Jennifer, the decker, who devises all the back up data. Feel free to describe your disguise… now. (If you don't have the disguise skill, Shoeshine will help, he has spare Polymasks. If you do yourself, you rock!)"
«Plot» Simon says, "Corp Villian: I'll use my Ed Dillinger disguise (Old Tron villian)"
«Plot» Savannah says, "I do not have a disguise skill. Savannah will disguise herself as Evil Corporate Magician complete with dark gothy wig, clothing with unique strange mystical symbols and heavy make up. Disguise Name: Morganna Darkmoon, Mage of the Third Order and member of The Coven of the Dark Mother"
«Plot» Simon says, "Good, as we all know from movies, all great villans are Euroepean"
«Plot» Kismet says, " Skilled Secretary: Using voice control, melanin control, facial sculpting, makeover, fashion knowskill at 3 and disguise skill at 6 to become the perfect boardroom bombshell named Felicia Baggins. Red hair, 5'6", blue eyes, burn-to-a-crisp pale skin, black skirt suit."
Shoeshine will have a polymask on, that's a given. But his disguise will come in his dress, a Secure jacket made of subdued synthleather, ribbed where the forearm pads go and so forth, intentionally a size too small. He'll exercise before they come to get a good pump so his muscles really strain the kevlar. Physical acting will carry it from there, although the color of all exposed flesh is changed.

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Would you like to excite us with a Disguise die roll, Kismet, for to be awesome?"
«OOC» Shoeshine says, "Oh, I'm certain you get a +4 for all of that, and I'm likely going to use your roll as a baseline to help out Simon and 'Morgana'."

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Next: You go to the building, a three-story office with labs, cubiciles, a heavy loading elevator, a normal elevator, a 3d printer, executive offices. You meet with the guards who will be assigned to this mission. "Hi! We've been orderd to fire a bit, and miss a lot! I just want you know, we'll have Cerberus pistols loaded with gel ammo and real ammo. We'll start with the gel and switch only to the real if something strange happens.""

«Plot» Savannah says, "I'll get to know the layout before our little friends are set to arrive. I want to get a good idea of where to run and what bottlenecks we can make."
«Plot» Simon will be masking of course.
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Savannah, and you all, achieve appropriate building knowledge. Shoeshine goes over the security system and learns it."

Kuryakin calls. "Good news everyone! They took the offer to have me provide them with decking services. So Jennifer will be able to tell you exactly when they're coming." Soon enough Jennifer will call and say, "Okay, I have 'decked the security systems' and I will be 'turning off the alarms on the doors' and 'intercepting the PANICBUTTON.' They're planning to go in late Saturday night when they expect you to be asleep, but they do know you live on site, in the living quarters off of the executive offices.

"Excellent!" Savannah seems excited as they get prepared, acquiring a genuine Evil Magician Staff to go with her disguise and maybe a wand. She'll pace out the building with the security guards, working on her evil laugh. "I never get to see the jobs from this angle, this is great!"

Simon grunts, "Well, that adjusts the plan slightly. I'd rather not get shot in my sleep, so I suppose I'll be up late night working. But where do I put my bodyguard?" He frowns, then looks at Kismet, "And you…..gah, I suppose I'm sleeping with my secretary too." He rolls his eyes.

Kismet says "I wouldn't call it 'sleeping."

Shoeshine hms. "I was thinking I might shoot a gun out of someone's hand or something. Would that be all right? To set up the whole kung fu thing."

Simon frowns "But then you're a crack shot, and less likely to miss. No, let's leave your gun…unloaded, somewhere a little distant from you. You're caught off guard and charge them. You can take a few light pistol shots if you're wearing armor. That should scare them."

Shoeshine says, "That's okay too - I was going to shoot a gun out of their hand and then like, toss my gun manfully aside because hand to hand is so much more fun. But all right."

Simon smirks, "We aren't doing Sapphire Shadowrunner for hire here, yes, yes, they watch trids, but I think a little realism would be more effective."

"Loose tie, after hours, bottle of good scotch on the desk. Up late working a tricky political angle." Kismet muses, looking over the quarters they'll be using. "Order some take out, I'll kick my heels off somewhere, Shoe can be on a chair nearby, maybe with your overshirt off so your armor is hanging out, all relaxed like?"

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "You set up the executive office as you desire. It has a water-wall, big doors, there's a conference room close to it, a waiting room with secretary on the way to it. It has room for small meetings in and of itself, with chairs and so forth, so it could easily take place in the executive office, with the kung-fuing partially in the secretary's waiting area."

«Plot» Savannah says, "Savannah will have a full assortment of Watchers on hand for this. All F1 of course. don't want to frighten them"

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "And so we begin."
Jennifer has let you know the time. She is for real decked in to the building security systems, as well as available to them on their commlinks. Shoeshine has a patch in to the security so he can see through the cameras on his pocsec but otherwise is in place. Kismet is 'working' at the secretaries' area, and Simon is in the Executive Suite, the door there between them unlocked. Savannah is with two security guards in the general area of the laboratories on the first floor, where she has a variety of escapes to emergency exits and stairwells, but is also quite likely to be able to encounter the people as they come in due to the building just not being all that hideously large and she knowing when they are coming in. But will she know where?

Commlink-Sunshine> Savannah says, "Affirmative. Security is ready to go!"

And there's the slightly audible >click< of the door unlocking and then they crouch-walk through….

Commlink-Turtle> Simon says, "Leave it for now, you can pursue when they run, keep them from thinking too much."

So, un-engaged, they proceed to an emergency fire stairwell, with which this place is well equipped as per standard building codes. It will take them to the third floor, a ways away from the executive suite. It's a good choice by someone who mapped out the building actually, it avoids a lot of stuff.

Commlink-Dogface> Shoeshine says, "Hey, he's got a shim or something, to slide between the doorjamb and open the fire door. Not bad, it looks like it was made exactly for this kinda door. Might be a special cop tool for emergency doors. Frederic has it."

Savannah will make a patting motion to the guards and a just a moment motion. She'll sidle over and tell them, "We'll give chase if they get loud, but otherwise let's build up some confidence."

«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls 4 for "The intelligence of their clever plan":

"Hi-YAHHHH!" shouts Alexia Wallace, also known as Thylacine. Just barely clever enough to have ascertained that the door swings inward and so she can actually dramatically kick it in, she rushes in first with a Narcojet dart pistol. "Freeze!" she shouts, but shoots anyway. Because she's excited, is why.

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Inits for people up here: Kismet, Shoeshine, Simon"
«Auto-Judge[]» Simon (#6474) rolls Initiative with a result of 11.
«Auto-Judge[]» Kismet (#4647) rolls Initiative with a result of 10.

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Shoeshine 23, Thylacine 15, Simon 11, Kismet 10, Cat 9, Ascot 8. Thylacine has busted in the door and is about to rush a few steps in, shout, and shoot.
«Plot» Shoeshine! Shoeshine could theoretically go first but he is not supposed to, so he delays."
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Thylacine thusly completes her action to shoot Kismet. Kismet, are you behind a desk?"
«OOC» Kismet says, "yus."
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls 3 + Combat Pool: 3 vs TN 6 for "tn 4 close range, -2 smartlink2, +4 cover from desk":
1 2 3 4 5 8 = 1 Success
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "one success over to you, it's a tn 4 with combat pool only and you need 2 successes to fully dodge - if you want to."
«Plot» Kismet says, "Ducking!"
«Auto-Judge[]» Kismet (#4647) rolls Combat Pool: 7 vs TN 4:
1 3 4 4 5 9 14 = 5 Successes
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Fully dodged, and second shot!"
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls 3 + Combat Pool: 3 vs TN 7 for "same as before but +1 recoil":
1 2 4 4 5 13 = 1 Success
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "again, you need 2 combat pool successes to dodge fully"
«Plot» Kismet says, "No more cp :p sucks to be me."
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "So, at the end of pass (so you will get an action) you will resist 6D stun with body."

Isn't it every shadowrunner's dream? Every cop's dream, evryone's dream. Kick in a door, shout "Freeze!" take aim, and shoot when your commands aren't instantly obeyed! (Instantly obeyed faster than humanly possible to obey, in fact.) Thylacine is so excited that her first dart sails wide when the innocent secretary ducks left - but a little smartlink correction and smack on! Hey wait, why isn't she falling down? Damn, these wired reflexes are confusing, why is everything so slow?

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Simon. Shoeshine is still delaying."

Simon stands up and moves to open the door. "What the hell is all this yelling?" He gives his best suprised expression when he spots the commotion.

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Kismet, 10, you have a dart stuck in you."

Click, zip, /OW/. The yelp that comes from the busty redheaded secretary is real, followed by a screaa that isn't wholly contrived. It takes a moment to realize that she's not got a huge hole in her, but a pointy tipped dart of, aww crap! Pivoting, she bolts for the door to the office, scrambling on stocking clad feet and attempting to put distance between herself and the assailants while triggering her sub-v mic.
Commlink-Sunshine> Kismet says, "I'm hit. Narcos, I hope."

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Shoeshine comes out of delay."

Shoeshine , having been triggered by hearing the secretary screaming as per the plan, comes out to 'rescue' her. It's really more of a swagger, given the too-tight Secure Jacket he's wearing. Still, he makes it up to the darting woman and says, "Bah. Puny toys," and attempts to ripswat it out of her hand with a disarming maneuver. (You knew he was going to do some kind of disarm, right?)
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls Escrima + Combat Pool: 1 vs TN 4 for "I just need to beat her on successes":

«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls Escrima + Combat Pool: 1 - 7 vs TN 4 for "I just need to beat her on successes kp1 because nuking the site from orbit is the only way to be sure":
1 4 17 = 2 Successes
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls 6 + Combat Pool: 2 vs TN 4 for "TKD 6 - she's actually pretty good, and the last of her combat pool":
1 1 1 2 3 3 5 5 = 2 Successes
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "7 successes means the gun flies 3.5 meters away, with 1 being back towards Simon on the scatter chart"
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls 1 for "scatter":
11

Shoeshine 's first hand comes up from below, pointing the gun upwards and making it loose in her hand. His second hand slaps it, hard, so it sails against the wall to Simon's left and bounces into the corner. Now Shoeshine is squared off with the woman, who is naturally, reflexively, getting into her TKD stance, light on her feet, all kicky. And just because he has to, even though it may spell doom and destruction, Shoeshine has to do it. He cracks his neck with a raspy popping noise as a means of slablike muscular intimidation.

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "9 is Cat, right? She peeks around the door and drops a Stunball into the office, placing it so that the backfill swoops through the door hitting Simon and Shoeshine. but not Thylacine."
«Auto-Judge[]» Simon (#6474) has the Attribute Willpower with the value '6 (8)'.
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls 5 + Sorcery Pool: 5 vs TN 8 for "Shoeshine is also at wp 8 so that means Cat can KP against TN 8! No background count here in this office for some reason. Draco Foundation must have had it cleansed or something, makes sense given the labs downstairs.":

«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls Willpower + 2 - 2 vs TN 6 for "now at kp4 (2 successes so far)":
1 1 2 2 2 4 8 9 = 2 Successes
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Shoeshine and Simon both resist. You may pose dramatically if you like."

Cat, like many cat shamans, is dressed for drama. That's why she carries the Tiffany Needler, it goes with the gypsy-like ensemble. Well, what she imagines gypsies wear. It's colorful and not very sneaky, truth be told. But she can channel the mana, for sure!

Simon grits his teeth as the magic washes over him, but if he falls so easily it won't give them any reason to run away. They need a little fear, so he manages to stagger a bit, making it look like he took some damage.

Shoeshine also looks buffeted, putting a hand to his forehead as if sleepy. But he uses his gritty dwarven willpower to muster through.

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Ascot: He busts out around the corner, pointing the Slivergun (which is, gasp, a heavy pistol). It crosses both Shoeshine and Simon. "What if I hit the chip?!?" he says, and chooses to shoot Shoeshine as his dossier, given him by Konstantin, told him that Simon would always have the chip on him. He actually takes a few more steps around and into the room so that Shoeshine doesn't get any cover from Thylacine in HTH."

«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls 4 + Combat Pool: 4 vs TN 2 for "Slivergun shoots a 9s flechette burst against double impact, first burst":

1 1 1 4 7 13 = 3 Successes

1 2 2 4 5 5 5 9 9 29 = 9 Successes

His combat adeptness isn't lacking. His fashion sense, maybe - he's terribly dapper for a man in a combat zone, wearing an executive suit and cloak with a bright red ascot.. maybe if he was older he would pull it off a little better. His aim isn't bad, riddling Shoeshine with needles, and in fact making him jump and pay a heck of a lot of attention to the guy because that could actually put him down if he let it. But with Shoeshine's arms up he takes most of it on his suit (and on his orthoskin).

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "End of pass. Kismet, roll body against 6D stun."
«Auto-Judge[]» Kismet (#4647) rolls Body vs TN 6:
1 3 3 4 = 0 Successes
«OOC» Kismet snerks.

The running and the screaming are just such hard work. Exhausting. Eyes grow heavy and limbs start to get wobbly. It's a short trip to the floor, and a few more crawling feet to the wall before Kismet's eyes roll back in her head and she faceplants with a soft 'thud'.

«Plot After The Fact» We determine that Kismet's magical Adept disguise powers turn off when she is unconscious. In any case, she's out of easy sight of the gang, so the changing of appearance is unnoticed. Simon and Shoeshine might get to see what Kismet really looks like though, and maybe Savannah later.

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Second pass, Shoeshine could go first but it wouldn't make sense, Thylacine. She will kick! Shoeshine will Close Combat, but full defense so as not to do any damage if he wins."

«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls 6 vs TN 4 for "boot to dwarf head! I spend so much time learning high kicks and this is what I have to deal with?":
2 3 4 4 5 9 = 4 Successes
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls Escrima vs TN 4:
2 3 4 4 5 5 5 7 9 = 7 Successes
Shoeshine makes a show of taking her flippy dippy jean Claude Van Damme kicks on his upraised arms and looking battered back. He's actually making a show of being injured now.

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Simon, on 1, I think?"
«Plot» Simon says, "F1 Flamethrower on Ascot!!"
«Plot» Simon says, "Light Damage"
«Auto-Judge[]» Simon (#6474) rolls Sorcery vs TN 4 for "Casting F1 Light Flamethrower….let's cap at 4 successes max. (pulling my punch :)":

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Ascot has 3 impact and no fire resist. That's Tn 2 to resist."
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Ascot used up all his combat pool earlier, so:"
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls 4 vs TN 2:
1 4 4 5 = 3 Successes
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Ascot takes a Light flame wound."

Simon sneers, as per a good and proper corporate villian. "Pathetic!" he calls out, and raises a hand, a Jet of flame shooting out to wash over Ascot. Boy, perhaps this will inspire the mage to do more, or for someone to shoot him.

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Shoeshine has an action left, which he takes by covering up and acting more wounded than he actually is from the kicks and the flechettes, ripping them out of his Secure Jacket."

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Inits for the new Round"
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls Initiative with a result of 19.

1 1 1 3 4 5 5 7 7 = 5 Successes
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Now, the amusing thing about Thylacine here is that she only has STR 4. So in terms of damage, not too impressive. If she went on the Newbie Channel people would tell her to get shock boots for her kicks. But it's still 4S."
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls Body vs TN 2 for "need 6 successes":
1 2 2 3 3 5 5 = 6 Successes

Shoeshine may advance punching, but he walks into a kick to the head that arcs over his shoulder and into his temple, knocking him aside. He resettles himself, only to recieve an axe kick. "Get him! I got this!" shouts Thylacine, as she unleashes an ever more brutal barrage of kicks on the poor riddled dwarf.

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Now Thylacine:"

«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls Body vs TN 2 for "against 2D, so shoeshine will actually get hurt here.":
1 2 3 4 4 8 9 = 6 Successes
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Shoeshine takes Light stun."

For Thylacine, it's the best day of her life. This is, in fact, living the dream. Here it is, the real fight she's been training for all of her life, and she's making solid hits and rocking the guy. And then blammo, the fake, the switch-up, and a front thrust kick that knocks even a sturdy, massive dwarf back! Oh, she hopes Ascot is watching this on the Opticam!

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Simon on deck."
«Plot» Simon says, "Delaying, pretending to be slow"
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Ascot goes, rounding on Simon!"

Ascot steadies his aim, taking a two-handed stance, stepping a pace towards Simon for the most optimum, no-cover situation. "Drop the chip, or I shoot your eye out next time." Apparently he liked that whole 'tell them to do something, then shoot them as motivation' kind of idea. After all, if the guy goes down, mission accomplished.

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "He's at Light, he aims for a simple to reduce TN."
«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls 4 + Combat Pool: 4 vs TN 2 for "9s burst flechette against double impact to Simon":
1 1 4 4 4 4 8 9 = 6 Successes
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "9s +6 successes to you. It's a three round burst, so dodge is TN 5."
«OOC» Simon says, "My double impact is 4, damage is 9S, so TN 5 either way huh"
«Auto-Judge[]» Simon (#6474) rolls Body + Combat Pool: 12 vs TN 5 for "9S + 6 successes, So need 12 for no damage. wow, this might actually wound me, god damn it!":

«Auto-Judge[]» Simon (#6474) rolls Body + Combat Pool: 12 - 9 vs TN 5 for "9S + 6 successes, So need 12 for no damage. wow, this might actually wound me, god damn it! KP:4":
1 1 2 4 4 5 22 = 2 Successes
«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Light wound."

Ascot shoots body center, grittily aiming through the pain, and is rewarded by a smidgen of blood peeking through the executive's armor. Yeah, that'll show 'em!

«Plot» Simon comes out of delay.

Simon reaches into a pocket, grabbing the chip and….throwing it at Ascot. Then….he flees!!! Simon runs into the next room quickly, cause villians always retreat to fight another day!

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "Cat."

Cat comes up behind Ascot, shimmying her hips (it's how she runs.) She lays her healing hands upon him, casting a Light Treat spell at F1 like a good backpack healer.

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "I'm going to move out of dice now as we have passed the critical juncture."

Shoeshine says, "No, boss! You can't let them have it!" He goes for the chip, trying to get around the bootmistress, but receives punishing blows that stagger him into the actual executive office, where he goes down on one knee and looks bleary. Ascot grabs up the chip while Cat holds the spell on him. They do that jumping-up-and-down-in-place thing as they are trying to decide where to move and 'away' becomes their decision, leaping back and running. They're all the way to their fire stairwell before any thought of stealth comes and they say things like, "The cops will be here any minute!"

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "And over to you, Savannah, on the first floor."
«Plot» Savannah says, "As there were screams and shooting, two Watchers will zip up and do their little Alarm feature to put the pressure and time constraint on the runners."

EEEEEEEEE! go the watchers. Thylacine says, "Dammit, take care of that!" And Cat, while she holds up the spell on Ascot, manages to stunbolt the puny weakling spirits… but at what cost! She's staggering now, bleary, but makes it through the critical 15 seconds of holding up Ascot's spell making him unwounded. He shifts to get under her shoulder, earning glares from the other leg of the love triangle on their team.

Savannah the Evil Corporate Mage will lead her security goons to a likely place to pressure the runners on their exit, her quarterstaff rapping hard against the floor. She glowers appropriatly.

Ka-BLAM! Ka-BLAM! go the security guards' Cerebus pistols. Splat, splat! go the gel rounds against the wall (don't want any property damage.) Ascot, the only unwounded one with any appropriate skill, does a running burst fire shot at the evil mage to keep her head down.

«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls 4 + Combat Pool: 4 vs TN 7 for "medium range tn 5 -2 smartlink, +4 tn running, dramatically holding up the waiflike cat shaman evens out in bonuses and penalties":

«Auto-Judge[]» Shoeshine (#844) rolls 4 + Combat Pool: 4 vs TN 7 for "kp 1, he hasn't spent it yet":

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "9s flechette +2 successes to you, tn 5 with combat pool, 3 successe for the full dodge."
«Auto-Judge[]» Savannah (#1218) rolls Combat Pool: 8 vs TN 5 for "Dodge":
2 2 3 4 5 10 11 15 = 4 Successes

Savanah waves her staff threateningly as she ducks from the gunfire, her horned hat falling to one side. She promises dire retribution against these intruders. She rails at her troops to 'get them!', waving one hand dramatically as she summons forth The Dire Flood! The astral plane will open and disgorge a liquid mound of animated fluid, its sapphire eyes balefully looking for foes.
«Plot» Savannah says, "I shall bring forth a Water Elemental with the command to materialize meanacingly"

They shoot it desperately as they run. Ascot's gun, actually, is capable of injuring it but that would take time to really lock on and he's not doing that. He's running out the door (you can hear them calling out to Jennifer on their commlink to make sure the door is open) and they all bust out for their car. They totally abandon thoughts of cover in their escape, looking for speed. The water elemental looks soulfully back at Savannah, kind of like a dog that you put ballet clothes and a scarf on.
«Auto-Judge[]» Savannah (#1218) uses 1 of item 1: Services for Force 3 Water Elemental from Services (#1242).

Savannah giggles at the elemental once the runners are out of sight and bows a little to it, "Be with harmony, my friend, and be released. Safe journey." She'll unbind the being and let it go home, its services to her done. She'll fix her hat and glance at the guards. "Well. That went swimmingly I think!"

One of Savannah's guards says, "Yeah, always a hoot! We usually don't get to do the fun stuff like this in our department!" The other guard says, "Ayup. Time to call the cleaning crew." He likesly means what with all the flechettes around in and the walls and the expended shells and narco darts and stuff.

Simon is busy casting Sterilize on his own blood and casting an awaken on the narco'ed girl, what was her name? He shakes his head. "This doesn't feel like that much money, seems far too easy. Then again, the job did call for intentionally getting shot."

Shoeshine gets up too. "If you called it right at the meet, forty k for each of us is cheap to get this kinda dirt on those kids. And their families."

«Plot» Shoeshine says, "And indeed, Kismet can sleep off the narco and all is well."
