Laser Focused Determination

GM: Pith
Players: Renegade, Dalton, Daniel, Chaz.
Synopsis: Renegade continues her pursuit of the Laser in McAffrey towers and calls in the calvary.
Date: Oct 2070

When last we saw our heroine she watching over the entrance to McAffrey towers like a hawk.

Rena idles from just the inside of the building while in her street clothes. The attempt to sneak in via window was met by failure and she's had some time to think about things after calling Chaz. Silently she studies the doors while flicking back and forth from thermal vision. Occasionally she looks at the various people walking through the lobby, especially the trolls.

Trolls are an uncommon metatype, especially in the high end and luxury apartment buildings, but a few come and go. Most looking to be the security types for folks that figure when you're going to have a meat wall to suck up bullets for you, bigger is better. There are a few that look like they'd be tennents, but it is a rare few.

«OOC» Pith says, "roll perception please."
«Auto-Judge[]» Renegade (#5854) rolls Intelligence for "Perception rolling. High and low sound freq hearing with therm vision":

After a short while, Rena moves over to catch one of the tenants attention. "Excuse me, sir." She's still watching the elevator from the angle that she catches the tenant at.

An older human glances over at Rena looking a bit shocked that she'd move close to him let alone speak to him, "What is it, girl? I'm very busy." He doesn't look particularly busy but his face has that sort of pinched nervousness found in people that always seem to have too much to do and not enough time, no matter how little responsibility they're given or how much time they're granted.

«OOC» Renegade says, "I'm in my usual white sweater and jeans"

"My friend was going to meet me down here to bring me to his brother's party but I've been waiting for thirty minutes… I didn't know if you maybe knew if there was a party happening on floor eight or four?" Rena says to the tenant.

The older gent blinks, "I don't have time for that sort of nonsense and there better not be any floor wide parties or the management will hear about it. Good evening."

Rena sighs and goes back to sitting down and watching the doors. "Good evening."

«OOC» Renegade says, "Well, not much else I can do. Are there datajacks in the building near me?"
«OOC» Renegade says, "Just for public trix? Maybe even a turtle?"
«OOC» Pith says, "There are several public terminals available, this is a high class place. Though they're all fairly exposed to the view of security and passersby."
«OOC» Renegade says, "Do they have ports for a cold assist interface?"
«OOC» Pith says, "Absolutely."
«OOC» Renegade says, "Neat."

Rena continues to watch the door for several more moments before moving over to the turtles for a quick plug. She turns to continue watching the doors but displays the data on her image link while she does a little digging to see if there's a publically accessible listing of guests on the 4th or 8th floor. Or any other info that may be useful.

A quick dip in the trix turns up the hotel's site with information about available rooms no rooms are showing available on either of those floors at present but rooms are expected to become available on the 8th floor in two months. The lease will be available on a first come first honored basis and you can reserve the room by putting down the first and last month payment (though they call it a security deposit.)

«OOC» Renegade thinks 8-floor then

Renegade pulls out her cellular phone and dials a number.
(Directed into the phone) Renegade says, "Hey, this is Rena. Is this Dalton?"

(Directed into the phone) Renegade says, "I'm in a jam here and need some help. If you wouldn't mind giving my some help, Omae, I'll owe you one and we can discuss it later."

(Directed into the phone) Renegade says, "McCafferty Towers, I'm in the lobby by the turtles."

(Directed into the phone) Renegade says, "Shiny. Thanks, chum."

Dalton has arrived.

With a flip of her cellphone, Rena goes back to dealing with the ultra-slow dealings of the turtle. It takes her a couple minutes to write a significantly broad message which she then sends off to an address that she believes will eventually get the message to Daniel. It basically entails that she needs some help and in exchange for a future favor, she would like to know if Daniel would help her out at the Mccaf Towers.

Rena never stops watching the door or the elevator either.

It's late evening at McAffrey towers, up at Stage Perilous things are just kicking into Nova-high gear but down in the loby the kinesthetic sculpture spreads it's message of fluid change and peaceful transition and grace. People come and go, some dressed for the club heading towards Tower A, others looking a bit tired coming home from work heading to tower B.

Dalton hasn't gotton his new shiney shadowrunner car yet, so he decides to fly tonight, with a stop off to walk through the border checkpoint. Once in the UCAS he starts flying again, fairly rapidly with the help of a sky spirit. He dismisses the spirit and lands near the towers. Shutting down his unnecessary magics, and masking all the rest. He makes his way into the place dressed in his usual attire, that which makes him look like someone who just walked out of a bad trid movie. He looks around the lobby, trying to spot Rena.

Daniel sighs and picks himself up from the small table set up in his lodge where he is working. He heads out to the coat closet and, after thinking about things, puts on his duster. Given the fact that he'll be meeting in the lobby, he opts to leave his machine pistol behind, though he does slip his shock gloves into the duster's pockets. He steps into the hallway, knowing that the door will lock behind him as he walks to the elevator The elevator from Tower B opens, and the shaman steps out of it, giving a slight nod towards the security while he looks for the elf who gave him a call.

Rena doesn't immediately recognize Dalton, being in thermal at the time. Once she switches back over, however, she gives the man a wave over to the terminal and begins having small-talk with him until Daniel arrives and she waves him over too. "Hey, guys." She smiles.

Dalton speaks with Rena politely until Daniel arrives, and nods to the other shaman. Then he waits paitently for Rena to either move them somewhere more secure, or simply tell them what she wants.

"So," Daniel says to Renegade, "What's up? How's work, and all that?" he asks, specifically avoiding questions that might link him to illicit activities here in a high security area.

Rena is already sitting down, a small optical cable running from the back of her head. Nervously, her gaze flickers back to the elevator and doors now and then. "Work is good, lately. I'm just really bummed because I was invited to a party here and my friend ditched me, the Trog." She frowns, "There's a surprise gift up in his room I left there that we got while at that auction, but I don't even know where his room is."

Dalton arches a brow, not saying anything, but just listening to the story, he nods a bit as he listens, trying to show his interest in the story.

Daniel frowns a bit at that. "They've got auction items here?" he asks. "This isn't exactly the best place for a… collector to keep items. You wouldn't happen to have a name, or perhaps something to use to find him?"

Rena takes out a notepad and scribbles something down before handing it to Dalton, "I know his apartment is on the fourth or eighth floor." The note on the paper basically says, 'I need this Trog killed, I know what he looks like, he has my laser rifle. The party is a lie.' Rena then looks to Daniel, "I don't know what to do anymore. If you can think of a way to do it, I'll do whatever's needed."

Dalton folds the piece of paper up neatly, and then hands it over to Daniel. He frowns slightly, and nods "Well, I'm sure we can help you make it to the party."

Daniel shakes his head once he catches a glance at the notepad and sees the word 'kill' on it. "Nope, sorry. I don't know of any party around here that's not up in Tower A," he says, slowly inching his way away from the pair. He makes a quick glance to see if there would have been any cameras to see the word, and starts working on reasons why he didn't know he was talking to someone planning to kill a resident.

Rena glances at Dalton then Daniel again, "That's your decision, but I'm sure you know who he worked for." She frowns slightly then looks back towards Dalton after taking the folded note. "Like I said, I'll owe you a big one, chummer."

Dalton shakes his head "Don't count on anything yet, the party is probably private, and I'm not even sure we can find it. Odds are, your better off waiting a day or two to meet with your friend again and make the next party."

«OOC» Daniel will note, that he's not touching the paper which mentions needing someone killed.

Dalton hands the paper back to Renegade.

"It's also possible to just take back the gift without touching him, but I don't want to risk losing it. I already lost him once. Whatever we need to do, we need to do before he leaves." Rena frowns.

«OOC» Daniel has an arangement with security folks here. I help them (for free)… when they ask, they look the other way when they notice my high-force lodge. Also, I let them make sure I'm not hiding milspec stuff behind said lodge.

Dalton smiles "I'm sorry, but what you ask just seems too much of a headache. I mean, finding a single party in this massive tower, and getting inside to find your gift. Its just not really possible. You need to find another way."

«OOC» Renegade says, "Could always call the police. :) KE, man has been shot in this hallway! There's blood everywhere! Suddenly the building is under lockdown."
«OOC» Renegade says, "He's not going to walk out the front door with milspec weaponry."
«OOC» Renegade says, "He'll likely bring it out via the loading docks later tonight with luggage or something."
«OOC» Renegade says, "One of us could loiter in the docks and the other watch the door."
«OOC» Renegade says, "Then comm when we see the trog packing / moving."
«OOC» Renegade says, "There's no other exit for this building save for the roof and that's way too high-brow."
«OOC» Daniel says, "There's a parking deck below ground."
«OOC» Renegade says, "Oh. Well. I screwed up, then."

Daniel nods in agreement. "Your better off making sure you get an invitation to the next party, I think," he says with a shrug. "Sorry I couldn't help you out any further." And with that, he starts to walk past the table, making it seem as though he was just making small talk with some people while he was on the way out for a bite to eat somewhere.

«OOC» Daniel knows the crazy security of his apartment. "I've got to get more than just the head of shamanic security on my contact list."
«OOC» Renegade says, "The craziest part is how they got a laser rifle into this building."
«OOC» Renegade says, "What's crazier is how they plan to get it out."
«OOC» Renegade says, "It must be in his cake."
«OOC» Dalton says, "If you can hit them on the move, outside, you got better odds"
«OOC» Dalton says, "I do have a spell that might work, but its very limited"
«OOC» Renegade says, "Then we should give it a shot."
«OOC» Renegade says, "This is my last resort kind of business."
«OOC» Dalton says, "And I'd have to do it when I can see the trog, and then I'd risk being spotted by the magical security"
«OOC» Renegade says, "If we can just identify him and his vehicle I can stop him."
«OOC» Dalton says, "Alright, that we can work on."
«OOC» Renegade says, "Can you drop me on his vehicle?"
«OOC» Renegade says, "I'll stick, I'm like tape."

Dalton smiles at Rene "Your best bet is to just wait around for your friend and hopefully run into him again, then you can just ask him about the gift."

Rena nods towards Daniel and then Dalton, "We should have one of us wait in the parking garage then and one at the loading docks to catch him, yeah?"

«OOC» Renegade says, "Ready for some time acceleration, Pith?"
«OOC» Pith says, "Braces for reverse bullet time."
«OOC» Renegade attaches bracers to teeth. Go!

Time begins slipping by agonizingly slowly punctuated by panicked scans of faces and bodies of the folks going by, minutes pass and still no sign of the target. The future becomes the present becomes the past and yet still neither hide, nor hair, nor tusk, nor horn of the target appears.

«OOC» Pith says, "How long will you wait?"
«OOC» Renegade says, "If it takes forever I will wait for you"

An hour rolls by, then the turn of another but still no sign of the target. Midnight will be rolling around sooner than later.

«OOC» Pith says, "Actually security gives you another 2 hours at which point the bar upstairs closes and they start looking /real/ hard at folks hanging about. They're used to folks wandering about waiting on their chance to get into the club, but with the club excuse gone…"What are you doing here?" is about to become a very serious question. She'd have given you as good a desc as she could."

Dalton calls up Rene "Hey, looks like the partys over, so I'm going to head home. Not much going on here anyhow. Sorry we didn't get a chance to party together."

Renegade answers her phone as she begins leaving her post to walk back into the lobby, "Very well. Thanks for your help, omae." Her next target is the clerk's counter.

Dalton heads out of the towers parking garage, and starts on his way back home, because he aint going to get in trouble here.

The small kiosk has 3 security guards dressed reassuringly in bleded security armor. One is jacked into what looks like a cyberterminal but the other two are there to direct visitors to their destinations.

Renegade answers her phone as she begins leaving her post to walk back into the lobby, "Very well. Thanks for your help, omae." Her next target is the clerk's counter. (Repose for Chaz)

Chaz, living in the Towers approaches from the elevators, looking around with a bit of a smirk. "Well now," he says softly, "This could be fun." Fishing out for his phone, a messenger bag slung over his shoulders as he walks, getting into his speed dials. "Come on Frankie, I know you're in here."

-----> Contact for Chaz (#4325) <------
Contact Name: Franklin Romano
Level: 1
Type: security
GM Note: 'Frankie' is one of the shift supervisors for the McCaffrey Towers Internal Security.

Rena is just about to hit the counters with a question before she notices someone come out of the elevators, having been watching it like a hawk for so long. "Nevermind." She says, without actually heading towards Chaz. She instead moves for the door to step outside.

The phone goes straight to voicemail, but that's because Frankie isn't allowed to have it on him when on duty, and that's where he is, sitting at the kiosk directing folks here and there.

Chaz doesn't bother with Rena as she moves away, instead heading towards the kiosk, waiting for his turn to come up in line. He slides the cellphone back into his pocket and mmms, just waiting for his turn in line, turning his senses on in case the guy happens to try and sneak past.

«OOC» Renegade says, "Pith: Where is the nearest IC coffee shop?"
«OOC» Daniel says, "There's probably one in Tower A. Not that it's on grid."

Frankie looks up, "Oh, good eve…well morning Sir." He chuckles with the long practiced good nature of a professional guard. "Is it a late night or an early morning and what can we do for you today, sir?"

«OOC» Pith says, "Within spitting distance Rene, there's one on every corner."
«OOC» Renegade says, "Cool."

Rena texts Chaz, "bbs coffee shop." Then proceeds to leave and go to a late night coffee shop. It's probably for the best, considering she's been there for almost eight hours.

The coffee shop doesn't serve coffee of course, it serves things that are similar to coffee in certain ways. For instance it is hot, it is brown, it is full of stimulants, and it is nearly undrinkable until one adds generous quantities of sweeteners, cream and flavoring.

Chaz sighs slightly as he approaches the booth. "Late night I guess, but I think there's a problem in the building. As I was riding on the elevator, I heard someone saying how they would make everyone pay once they finished setting up his special package," he offers, "I don't know exactly what his intentions are but it all seemed pretty shady."

Frankie nods slowly, "We'll look into it immediately sir, how long ago did this happen?" His fingers are alread moving over the keypad in front of him and the security rigger at the terminal beside him nods though his eyes do not focus on the scene.

"It was probably about what, twenty to twenty five minutes ago. Problem being the guy was like cloaked in this whole thing of like invisibility, I only really saw his face for like a second," Chaz says, "But when a friend of mine was saying they saw a similar looking person walk in here earlier with a large box about three or four hours ago… well, that made me think it might be something to it, when I thought it might have just been a trick of the light."

Frankie taps a few more keys into the system, a few heartbeats tick by and the rigger shakes his head slowly. Frankie glances down as the screen flickers displaying information. "Sir, our playback has no record of that event. This normally indicates an astral entity manifesting. I will alert the on duty magical support division who will scan the building immediately." The speech sounds a little rote but he delivers it in a caring fashion.

Chaz nods his head lightly. "Thank you, I just figured I should make you all aware of that," He says and then turns to walk away, as if his job was done, heading towards the door to the street.

There is motion but not a commotion as the security forces go on alert on the tip. Tapes are reviewed, spirits move quickly through the building, and the mage performs an astral sweep. It is done professionally and thoroughly but above all quietly.

Renegade pages: I'm going to use my deck at this coffee building to get onto the LTG
You paged Renegade with 'Easy enough.'.
Renegade pages: Can I find the node for the towers, though?
You paged Renegade with 'Sure you were on there earlier looking at open apartments. Nice site, lots of information about events happening in the towers.'.
Renegade pages: I want to deck in and tap the video footage.
Renegade pages: Their security system is private.
Renegade pages: I assume.
You paged Renegade with 'Indeed it is.'.
Renegade pages: Is it connected to the internal network of the building?

«OOC» Renegade says, "Yo, Pith, is there a plastic bag somewhere?"
«OOC» Renegade says, "ICly around the loading dock? And do I remember seeing a data jack out back?"

Renegade pages: I'm just diving in to get the video footage of the troll and which room he went into it.

«OOC» Pith says, "No dataports outside the building, and there's always plastic bags floating about."
«OOC» Renegade says, "What about downstairs in the parking garage around the elevators?"
«OOC» Pith says, "There's the terminals in the lobby…it's a secure building, they don't leave loose ends."
«OOC» Pith says, "Well not open datajack style loose ends at least."

Renegade pages: While I'm at the coffeeshop I'm going to deck out a floorplan of the system.

Renegade pages: I'd also like to see if there's sub-basement access via the sewers.

You paged Renegade with 'The basic floor plan is readily available. No sewer access.'.

Renegade pages: Display it 3D, can I cut through to the sub-basement access?

Renegade pages: Also are there any electrical access points from the roof that I could rig into data jacks?

Renegade pages: The tool laser I have can cut a 5cm line through mat with a barrier rating of 10 or less per combat turn.

You paged Renegade with 'The parking garage is belowground. Access from the parking garage up goes through the lobby. There are stairs and the Elevator. There are several access points you could use from the roof including the security cameras.'.

Renegade pages: There are points on the roof. I am guessing there are also cameras. That's fine.

«OOC» Renegade says, "What's the wind like tonight, Pith?"
«OOC» Pith says, "7 mph from the south"

Chaz mmms as he reaches to pull out his cellphone, tapping a reply to Renegade. "Building astral scanning for Trog, starting new plan." He sends off the message as he steps out into the street.

Rena takes a few minutes at the coffee shop before returning to her bike to swap gear. On the way she checks up on her phone to reply with a message "Meet at bike". That same bike she awaits at until Chaz swings by.

Chaz nods happily and moves towards the bike, adjusting his case as it sits on his shoulders, sighing slowly with that, his senses going fully on in case the trog tries to make his escape.

Rena gives a half-hearted wave to Chaz, "What do you need me to do? I've had some soycaf and I'm ready for anything."

Chaz mmms slowly and tilts his head. "Probably going to need to review the security footage to find the guy you're looking for, since we can't do door to door search," he offers. "Need to find a spot to tap in and then you can do a trix search of their database."

Rena shifts to lean against her bike a small bit. "That's a great idea but they've got this place locked down tight. I've got a kit but no tap, so no booze as far as that goes."

Chaz nods slowly and chuckles. "Be prepared," he says and raises his hand in the scout salute. A bit of a smirk as he fishes into his bag and nods. "Got one in here that should work for that, though you'll need to find or make a blind spot for that."

"A blind spot, huh?" Rena takes the data jack tap when offered and nods, slipping it into her FFBA suit's pocket. "Don't worry about that. It'll be like in and out, chummer." She smiles, "I'll text you when I've got the footage."

«OOC» Pith says, "Ok, where will you be attempting to place the tap?"
«OOC» Renegade says, "The roof. :)"
«OOC» Pith says, "Ok, and you're getting up there how?"
«OOC» Renegade says, "Me? I'm climbing."
«OOC» Pith says, "Roger that. It's a very, very tall building."
«OOC» Daniel says, "26 floors!"
«OOC» Daniel says, "Floors A-Z!"
«OOC» Pith says, "Let's call it that as I don't have an official count."
«OOC» Daniel says, "Possibly 27."
«OOC» Renegade says, "I'm fine with that."
«OOC» Renegade says, "If anyone can climb it, it's me."
«OOC» Pith says, "Oh, climing it isn't really the issue, just want you to realize how high it is."
«OOC» Renegade says, "That's fine."
«OOC» Renegade says, "I could actually survive a fall from a few stories granted I land on my feet."
«OOC» Renegade says, "This is a lot more than a few stories."
«OOC» Renegade says, "But still."

High atop the McAffrey towers the massive light collectors that funnel sunlight down to the garden inside the building are pointed towards the moon, gathering it's faint light until they'll turn to catch the rising sun. Several security cameras keep watch on this area.

Rena takes a few moments to grab a couple plastic bags before mobilizing. Again she moves towards the loading dock in her ruthenium cloaked suit as she begins scaling the side of the building in a bit of a rush. Not carelessly slow, but she is really making that bioware work as she begins climbing all the way to the roof.

«OOC» Renegade says, "Are the cameras watching each other?"

«Auto-Judge[]» Renegade (#5854) rolls Electronics + 2 for "Open test!":

«OOC» Pith says, "You believe you could access one of the camera linkages."
«OOC» Renegade says, "I'm not looking to interrupt the camera feed if possible."
«OOC» Renegade says, "I'm looking for any access points independent of the camera systems."
«OOC» Pith says, "The only systems you'd imagine that would tie into the security systems from here would be the cameras."
«OOC» Renegade says, "Very well. All the cameras watching each other?"
«OOC» Pith says, "1 camera that you suspect you could get to without being seen."
«OOC» Pith says, "The way the light collector is turned shields it from the other cameras."

Rena produces a plastic bag from her pocket and lets it expand from the winds from the south. With some stealth she moves over to the isolated camera before pulling the plastic bag over it gently as if it were just blown onto it. Then she immediately goes to work with disconnecting the cable to the camera to begin tapping it.

Matrix work to come…
