Log: Interdiction
GM: Vera
Players: Double Tap, Baron, Vera.
Synopsis: Three runners interdict a drug shipment in order to support a new gang's rights to that route. The opposition is stiffer than anticipated.
Date: March 1, 2071

«Plot» Vera says, "Welcome! I am not on the plot room channel; please use it among yourselves. Vera will attend, but as a backup combat player, not as a 'director.' This plot may hurt you or kill you if something really bad happens, but I won't overtly /try/ to do so, but instead just pose fun challenges. Do you both consent to that?"

«Plot» Double Tap says, "Sounds good to me."

«Plot» Baron says, "I consent to ICA=ICC"

The little bar in the CAS sector that you have been invited to, in order to meet a J, is a dirty old hole, one replete with dark wood and seediness. A ridiculous painting of dogs at cards, of course, hangs behind the decrepit barman, behind which an admittedly poor selection of evilly dusty bottles holds liquors of various shades of amber. There are a few dirty taps too - just three, in a row. There are a couple of patrons, but apparently no 'Lady J,' who had of course been self-described as a 'redheaded elven bombshell'

Baron grunts as he enters and looks around. A datacable trails from his head and into a pocket to connect to his remote deck and feed him information from outside. If drek goes down, he wants his drones to come in guns blazing, while he hides under a table. Since he fails to spot the bombshell, he finds an empty table and sits down, glaring at anyone who gets too close.

Double tap makes her way into the bar, and she glances about for a moment, before she makes her way to the bar. She spends a moment, before finally ordering herself a glass of water while she waits for the person she's supposed to meet.

A small door opens, and the clink of pool balls can be heard in the next room of the bar. A redhead appears…built far more…sturdily, that the sylphs that grace, but the ears at least give the rest of the game away. She might be wearing the sunglasses you'd see on a J, but the rest of her outfit is all leather jacket and jeans, close fitting 'I Love Rock 'N Roll' type stuff. She sets a half-empty pint glass on the little table next to Baron and waves Double Tap over with a polite smile, and settles herself into the booth. "Nice to meet you both," she says, after both enter the booth. "I'm Posh, although known on that far too official sounding message as Lady J. That's my business name, the one I use with the corps," she says, flipping her hand away, then taking a nice big gulp of her beer. "I found a great opportunity, I think, a chance for us to make a lot of money. Or a little bit of money, for those saving the world types among you. Just a quick nip onto the highway, a little smash and grab, back out."

Baron reaches slowly into a pocket and pulls out….a candybar. He unwraps it, and takes a bite, chewing for a moment as he listens. "Alright, you got my attention." he remarks. A hand dips into another pocket and comes out with a bottle of coke. He opens it and takes a sip. The man comes prepared!

DT nods her head a bit at this, as she approaches, and she listens to what she has to say. "I'm always interested in paying work." She comments. "I'd like to know more, though."

The redhead, Posh, offers a smile to the others at the table. "Good to know we're all starting on the same page." She smiles again. "All right. Well, through one of my friends - I always like to keep an ear to the ground - I heard that the Vogels were offering a job. It seems like they're declaring war on one of their local competitors." She takes another sip of beer, and then reaches for a cigarette, which she enthusiastically lights. Seems like the redhead is quite fond of vice. "They want a shipment interdicted, but they don't want to risk their resources. They're a bit on the old side - the meanest of aged ex-corp types, one who like stable business, planning, and tactics, and are glad to pay out for a risky job. They mainly want the shipment destroyed, but they're willing to offer a little extra if we deliver it to them." She smiles. "Now, I'm thinking that we take the job. I do some arranging sometime, but I had a look at what little I could cobble together from handles and reputation." She smiles, puffing on her cigarette. "Numbers, though. The job pays ninety thousand just to destroy the shipment, with an extra ten thousand each to deliver it. I suppose the Vogels will be making a move, trying to take over that route." She shrugs, and smiles. "Probably the distribution network for Denver."

Baron takes another bite of candybar and a sip of coke to wash it down. "Alright, so the important questions are where this shipmant is going to and from and the route. Alot of variables depend on where we can hit the shipment. I'm not going to do work in the FTZ, its just suicide."

Vera nods. "I doubt the opposition should be too difficult - the gangers will have a Brinks truck, probably two guns, and motorcycles, at least another two. That's just a guess at least, but it's pretty standard for mid-level shipments," she replies to Baron. "I can't tell you much more, but I can tell you it's not the FTZ, and it's not the Warrens, so there's an amount of legal risk. We'll have to be damn fast. If I told you more than that, though, maybe you cut me out, undercut the shipment." She smiles. "Now, that's not to say I don't trust either of you…but I'll at least need a handshake. I was saying that we all go, we all share the risk, and split everything three ways."

Double Tap nods her head thoughtfully as she listens to the description of the job. "Sounds simple enough. Hrm…" she thinks to herself, as she wonders how she's going to be able to get her guns through the borders.

Baron grunts "I can stop the truck no problem. Got me a special tool for that. We move in, we grab the cargo, we go. Fast."

Vera nods at Baron. "Well, why do you think I called you?" she says, with a grin. "I was hoping that you'd do the driving, at least based on your reputation. My plan was to secure us a Brumby if you didn't have a specialized tool for the job, and ram it, but that's a really basic plan." She smiles. "Getting through the border is probably not going to be a problem - I figure we can use whatever fake papers they were intending to use, somehow. We'll be able to nab any appropriate colors, though we might have to John Wayne our way through a check. Regardless, though - this is cheap and dirty, and it sounds like we'd have to go live on the opposition." She smiles. "But that's not my area of expertise. I'm good when it's dangerous, and I'm quite the social butterfly, but I've got nothing beyond what I've seen in trid movies to help with planning the op. But hey, I bring the information, and I bring my own weapons." She smiles at Double Tap. "I was hoping one of you might have some ideas about that. I mean, I'm not bad with my fists either, but I'd prefer to carry if I'm going up against four guns," she says, taking another puff of her cigarette, her words crisply separated by her RP accent.

Vera offers her hand to each of you in turn. "By the way, should I assume we're all in, and we all are also willing to try to deliver the shipment?"

Baron grunts "Yea, I'm in. I can get us past any borders you want, I know all the ways around them, its easy when you got the right contacts. I've got a drone that can discreetly disable the brinks, the trick is getting it open after that and getting the cargo fast. How much cargo are we talking about?"

Vera glances to Double Tap, waiting both for agreement and for her insight.

Double Tap nods her head briefly, "Well, I have a contact who might be able to get them out of the city for us- our guns that is. But I'm not sure if he'll be able to do it on such short notice." She informs the others. "I'll… see what I can do." She adds, and gets out her phone out.

Baron shakes his head "I used to be a smuggler, I can get you anything you want, anywhere you want. Leave that to me."

Vera nods. "If there's a problem, I know a good lawyer, too," she says. "You can refer him as a backup. He won't do anything illegal himself, but it's always nice to have a cover," she says with a smile. "After all, everyone needs legal advice, those who flirt with the law most especially," she says. "But if you're going to be smuggling things - and I dare say the cargo would take a while to completely load and unload - I imagine the Brinks is completely full - then I'm all on board." She beams. "Now, I'm good with a rifle, and have a decent one, and I'm also qute effective up close - fists, knife, or firearm."

Double Tap ahs, and nods her head, putting the phone back away. "I am relieved to hear that. I was not sure I would be able to." she informs him. "I have… several weapons I would like to bring… but if it is easier, I will simply pack my assault rifle." she informs him.

Baron grunts "I need to know how much cargo we are talking. How big."

Vera shrugs at Baron. "Enough to fill a small armored car. Not a military armored car, but one of those boxy things that banks and such use, if transporting not huge amounts of bullion," she says. "I'm afraid I can't really give more information than that."

Double Tap nods her head again. "I'll pack a bag to bring. Where shall we meet back up?" she wonders, "I store them all in my apartment in Orktown. Can you pick them up fromt he Rez?" she asks Baron.

«Plot» Double Tap says, "I'll be packing: My Ares Alpha, My Morrisey Elite, Ex-Ex and Gel Ammo for both, Some Smoke Grenades, Some Concussion grenades, Some Offensive HE Grenades, and my Hardliner Gloves."

Baron grunts "I'll be in the Rez, in a big black RV. You come and knock and I'll let you in."

Double Tap adds, incidentally, "I… also have a rocket launcher I could bring. Just incase." to the other two.

Baron shakes his head "No, thats too obvious."

Vera nods. "Just to agree in advance - are we going hot or not?" she asks, as the group leave the bar into the relative anonymity of the world outside.

Double Tap nods her head again as she ehads outside. "I think we should. It'll probably be the fastest way. If we catch them offguard, they're less likely to be able to call for help, too." She comments.

Baron grunts "Its not cops, its not corp, its thugs. Kill em and grab the loot. So, again, how much loot? Can we move it from the brinks car ourselves? or What?"

Vera smiles at Baron. "A van's worth, pretty much. The back of a Brinks truck-type thing. Do they even drive Brinks trucks anymore? Maybe I watch too many old movies."

Baron frowns a bit and shrugs "You know, we might as well just destroy the truck and the cargo. Sure, we don't get a little extra cash, but its safer and keeps us free and clear."

Vera shrugs. "I'll go along with however you approach the situation." She smiles at Double Tap. "Have you got any ideas, or are we just saying, screw it, let's light 'em up?"

Vera ponders for a moment. "I do have some anti-vehicular rounds. The good stuff. A depleted uranium penetrator capping a high explosive round. Only for heavy pistols, though, but we could certainly pierce an armored car's windshield. Thing is, then we've got a van with busted windows. As we said, I'm along for the ride. After all, we've still got to worry about those bikers. Maybe Baron and I could take care of them?"

Baron grunts "I could handle the escorts, but for 10k, I'm not driving a bullet ridden van through Lone Star territory. Its just asking for trouble. Lets just nuke it and go home."

Vera shrugs, and smiles. "As I said, I'm not the expert. If you think thirtyish kay apiece is a better value curve, and you both agree, by all means, let's do that."

Double Tap nods her head again, "Yeah, it seems like a missile through the windshield would be the quickest way to do this. So long as you're sure you can get us out of there."

Baron grins "Not a problem. I'll stop the van with a sniper round. You aim and blow it up with a missle. We drive away. Simple."

Vera nods. "Is there a seat or back door for your van or window that I could tag the bikers with the sniper rifle? After all, I doubt we want a hectic close chase." She smiles. "It's silenced, too. Of course, if one of you thinks you could do the job better, I can just…ride shotgun.

Vera nods. "Well, it's up to you, then, whether we confine the noise to the…missile," she says, with a little twist of her lips. "And, I suppose, when you stop the van with a wheelshot."

Baron grunts "Wheelshot? I'm crippling the engine first. Its coming from above. I'll nail it, then let the missle do the work. If the guards give chase, I'll shoot them too."

Vera raishes her eyebrows, and then smiles. "Consider me wherever you want me, then," she says, glancing over to Double Tap. "And we should meet at the Rez, when agreed. I'll keep you updated if there are any emergency changes, but we do have a little time."

Baron nods "Alright, give me the route, and I'll plot our ins and outs and where to hit them with good visibility."

The shipment is coming from the west, around a particular time. It would probably be a bigger job, but apparently the clients do some of their own legwork. It's reasonably precise; giving a range of hours later the next day, and there's a good, long stretch of highway.

«Plot» Vera says, "This is smuggling some heavy gear. I'm going to say TN 6, Threshold 2.

Double Tap points at a location on the map. "This stretch of the Highway is fairly low on traffic- and it's fairly far from the city proper. We'd probably be able to take the van out without people hearing too quickly. If you could position your sniper drone here." She points about half a kilometer down the road, "You should have time to take the van out and bring it to a stop in range of my missile launcher. I'll fire the launcher from the vehicle, and then we'll proceed this way- return through a different checkpoint to where we left, ideally into a different sector. If we are being pursued by security forces at this point, the borders will slow them down, and they're unlikely to find immediate cooperation."

Baron grunts "I can change the paint scheme and transponder a few times, to throw off pursuit."

Vera shows up at the meeting point. In order to be able to discuss with any potential police presence, she is dressed much as before, her top a little lighter, her jeans a little darker. Same leather jacket. A large, boxy case is packed into a duffel and slung over her shoulder. She nods to Double Tap as the plan is laid out. "Right," she says. "Anything you'd like me to do, or just…cover us, if necessary?" She nods to Baron.

Baron grunts "I'm covering." He points up, at, well, nothign. Its a ruth blimp int he sky, you cant see it!

Double Tap nods her head, "You'll keep an eye on the shipments' escort, and help deal with any pursuit."

«Plot» Vera says, "Baron, what's your vehicle?"

Vera nods. "All right. Let's lock and load." She smiles. "So can I open the back doors and shoot out, then?" she asks. "That's probably the best spot for me. Open the doors if there's trouble, though there probably won't be. All right. Let's get moving."

«Plot» Vera says, "Any objections to fast-forwarding to the 'battle' site?"

«Plot» Double Tap says, "Fine with me."

Baron settles down in the bed in his RV, driving the thing remotely. What you will notice, is there is a turret INSIDE the RV. Armed with a dart rifle to shoot anyone that gets inside and not mess up the upholstery. The back is full of drones, minus the blimp thats following above.

It's a long, lonely stretch of highway. The Bison is there early; there's a few minutes to prepare, certainly, and driving towards where the little biker convoy is approaching from, no doubt the distance would close quickly. Cop coverage has been minor, or present - the occasional car visible, a speed trap every forty miles or so. It's not a totally out of use highway, after all, so at no point is it ever totally empty.

Double Tap works on setting up her great dragon in the back of the van. She deploys the built-in tripod of the device near the doors at the back. She loads a missile into the launch tube and then picks the whole thing up, ready to jump out and deploy. After all, the blowback would probably not be pleasent if she fired it inside of the vehicle.

Vera glances at Double Tap. "What, you can't shoot it from in here?" she asks. "I thought the initial blast was just small, to eject the missile - that's why you can set it up on a tripod and stand behind it," she says. "It's not like it's a bazooka. But…I mean, should you really get out with that thing alongside an in-use highway?" she asks.

Baron grunts "Your not firing that thing in here. The backblast will burn up my stash!" He points to crates of candybars and MRE's.

Double Tap nods her head at Vera then, "I'll have to, or I could kill us both." She comments. "It won't take me long to insish off the van."

Vera shrugs. "I can't claim expert knowledge on this subject," she replies. "I'll cover you either way."

At that moment, the sight of a truck…with two motorcycles running before it, comes into view. What may come as a surprise is two more motorcycles behind it.

Baron watches the scene through his sensors in his blimp drone. Hovering above the situation and letting his RV run on autopilot at the moment. He tracks the Van, preparing for the right moment to send an AV round through its engine block.

As the van and motorcycles come into full view, engines blaring, greasy biker hair trailing in the breeze, a clear shot does indeed present itself. Vera's muscles tighten, holding the Walther WA-2100 loaded with APDS she had extracted earlier, and she smiles tightly, ready to aim for the motorcyclists. "All right. I'll kick the door open on Baron's signal, then. You hop out, set up, and then shoot a couple seconds later. I'll be taking out those bikers."

«Plot» Vera says, "Double Tap's pose, then inits. :)"

Tap nods her head then, and she unfolds the Bipod legs ready so that she can jump out and depoloy as quickly as possible. She also puts her sunglasses on which in combination with her helmet help protect her identity at least a little bit.

«Plot» Vera says, "Order: Baron, Vera, Double Tap, Biker 4, Biker 3, Biker 2, Biker 1, Van"

Baron starts to take aim at the target van, lining it up in his virutal crosshairs. A mental thought is given to his Bison. Stop, open rear hatch. That done the vehicle starts to slow down rather quickly, and the back hatch begins to lower down to provide a ramp.

Even at this range, Vera is able to sight in one of the bikers. She holds her breath a moment, firing a single silenced APDS shot from her rifle directly towards the head of the nearest biker. There is no scope, Vera's augmented fire control systems marking range and firing with assistance from precision algorithms.

«Plot» Vera says, "Takes D."

The big rifle bullet from the Walther spins one of the bikers immediately from his bike, his lungs blown out his back. One down, one van and three to go. The three bikers rev their engines, moving to charge the direction of the shots! They can't see or hear them, but they did see a van suddenly screech to a halt and its back door lower to a ramp.

«Plot» Vera says, "Double Tap, you can move enough meters to be away from the inside of the truck, set up your tripod with a simple, and fire once with a simple, then."

Double tap bursts from the back of the van before it's even completley stpped moving, and drops down onto one knee, deploying the tripod. She looks down the imaging scope of the Great Dragon ATGM she brought with her, as little diamong crosshairs dance about over the various vehicles moving through her field of view. "C'mon… c'mon…" she complains, as the diamonds begin converging on the van. Eventually she pushes a button on the scope and, they switch from white to red as a lock is acquired. Double tap squeezes the trigger an instant later, and a plume of exhaust gasses pour from the back of the launcher before the missile- painted to look like its namesake- flies from the front of the launcher.
It flies aimlessly for a moment, before beeping and finding it's locked target. The missile hurtles towards the van, in particular towards the nice heat-generating engine block it's locked onto. The targetting computer has a bit of trouble with the speed the van is moving at, though, and it soars past the vehicle, slamming into the ground to the side of it as it passes by- the resultant explosion rocks the nearby area and blows a smoking crater in the road.

«Auto-Judge[]» Vera (#11342) rolls 4 vs TN 8:
2 3 3 4 = 0 Successes

The van is not struck by the missile, but the vicious crater blown nearby as well as the concussive impact of the warhead shreds the van's tires and wheels, knocking the vehicle over on its side. There's no way anyone could have survived inside the driver's compartment, judging by the stone and fragments that had nearly misted the man within it. The bikes had been scattered around the van, but none are caught within the explosion - each bike had been about ten yards away. Vera whoops in delight as she sees the work of Double Tap. "Wow! Hit it with another one!" she says, not knowing whether the ork has reloads!

Now with nothing left to them but revenge, the three bikes roar to advance, submachine gun fire spitting out in a hail of fire towards Vera and Double Tap!

Vera knocks back as she sees bullets tear into Double Tap and feels the thump as her ribs crack from the impulse of explosive rounds hammering her chest armor. Seems like exposing infantry to these combat bikers is more dangerous than expected.

«Plot» Vera says, "Biker 2 dead."

Vera sucks in her breath sharply as she sees one of the bikers picked expertly from the bike by the heavy 'SPRAK!' of the sniping drone. The two bikers get closer, as Vera refixes her sight, firing off two quick shots at the nearest biker.

Double tap is jsut getting ready to pack up the launcher and get back into the car when three rounds tear across her chest and drop her back down into a kneeling position. The greys of her camo gear quickly begin to turn red as blood pours from the wounds- gaping as they are, despite the impact of the explosive rounds being dulled by their colision with her armor. Instantly, the world seems to dull around her, her ears still ringing from the missile explosion- and now pounding with her heartbeat. She tries to shake the dizzyness, and haul her ass and her launcher back into the van. Once in the van, she collapses against the side dumping the launch canister on the ground, and she hauls her ares alpha into a firing position out the back door. "Close the door halfway- give us some cover!" she yells into her com so the semi-comatose rigger can hear.

The next biker swerves as the sniper bullet catches him in the chest. He's not going to be able to fire anywhere /near/ as steadily. Only consummate skill by its rider keeps it from going out of control, but the two bikers approach, submachine guns up at the ready. One fires again at the offending vehicle, while the injured biker takes a shot at his redheaded tormentor.

«Plot» Vera says, "Vera takes D."

The explosive bullets rip into the cabin of the van and knock Vera to the ground, slumping backwards with jagged, sucking wounds torn out of her chest, one out of the side of her jaw. She's dying, consciousness slipping away as she spills claret on the floor of Baron's van.

«Plot» Vera says, "Okay. Vera has taken D+2. She'll need first aid to survive."

Double tap hisses as Vera is knocked back, "Scratch that! Get us out of here!" She yells, and then she dives into the back of the van next to Vera. She reaches into one of the various pockets on her vest, unrolling a trauma patch, and she bites one corner, tearing the wrapping open. She reaches down and tears open Vera's shirt, before slamming the adhesive patch down over her chest. With her other hand, she holds her hand to the wound on her face.neck, trying to stifle the bleeding.

Baron growls "Frag that!, hide behind the drones!" Suddenly a hum comes from the two other drones in the back of the RV, one of them is a troll sized airsled, its like a flying tank. The other is a humanoid drone lined with armor, and with an assault rifle on its arm.

Baron raises the back just enough to cover the wounded, and switches to command chair mode. At that point, he orders all his drones to fire on the target. The Sniper blimp tries to get a lock and fails, the Servitor drone tries to get a lock but fails, the PAC cannon on the airsled roars in the confines of the back of the RV, but the cannon shell goes wide and misses the target.

The third of the bikers is spiked down from his bike, as the last one suffers significant damage, smoke gouting up from the vehicle. The engine spouts black oil, and it can almost be heard that the last one is cursing, raging as his weapon is not as useful against the van as he'd hoped.

«Plot» Vera says, "Baron's up. :)"

The bike is hit and the biker is also shredded, the panther assault cannon causing a massive flare-up, destroying bike and man. Surely there will be sirens again at some point, but, for now, Baron and Double Tap are masters of the road. Vera, for her part, bleeds.

«Plot» Vera says, "Okay. Double Tap, you could demolish the van, or you, Baron, could probably destroy it permanently with a series of assault cannon rounds. Either would prevent the shipment from being retrieved before the cops come on the scene in a few minutes."

«Auto-Judge[]» Baron (#3002) uses 5 of item 1: Panther Assault Cannon Ammo Belt from Big Box (#1374).

Baron growls, the PAC roars again, and again, and again. Shell after shell is sent downrange into the van, ripping it to shreds and causing massive damage to both vehicle and cargo. There is little left of the vehicle by the time the cannon goes silent.

Vera, thanks to the trauma patch and her vicious wounds, is still completely unconscious. She will be in a coma, but safe, until she reaches medical attention.

For her part, the Hobgoblin msotly acts as a humanoid shield to prevent any more harm coming to vera while the Rigger finishes off ther pusuers. "Know a good doc?" Shje asks him, "Posh is bad, and I'm about to puke or pass out or both."

Baron quickly shuts down everything and starts the Bison going. Sure, he could salavge the bikers, but hell, cops are going to be coming soon. His blimp changes back invisible and slowly heads off to meet him in the Warrens at a preplanned destination. The Drones in the back of the RV shut down as the RV starts up and moves down the road. The paint changes, the transponder codes and tries to vanish.

Baron grunts "I used to know the best damn mage in denver, but she left town a while back and I aint seen her since. I hear the Bare Knuckle Gym has a clinic an doc on staff. You could always call any magical people you know too."

There is the faint sound of a siren as Baron chooses the prudent path and escapes the scene, mission accomplished to the minimum parameters. Perhaps the bikers have valuable ware to ghoul, but it will never be known. Regardless, though, the runners escape with their skins (barely) and another notch on the win post!
