Log: Inspector Deck

GM: Posh
Players: Air, Posh
Synopsis: Posh convinces Air to help her out, in exchange for some work later on some of his vehicles, to deck into a system and insert inspection reports. He does so, flexing his decking muscles, and Posh pays him out of a few side jobs she’s doing for her contacts.

Posh chuckles," she says. "I'd love to come along to watch, in fact," she says. "Do you have one of the slave ports?" she asks, reaching up and opening the datajack port in her arm. "You know, I was thinking of going to back to my neck. A datjack in the arm is rather inconvenient," she says, also getting a datacable.

Air reaches up and points at his head, "Not likely to fit under my hair, yours perhaps. What did you want me to do again? File an inspection report with… someone?"

Posh shakes her head. "No, no," she says. "It's a little better advised than that," Posh explains. "There's two types of inspections I have to deal with, both anually, plus a business license renewal," she says. "I don't want to bother with dealing with the latter - I'll go in and get my SIN checked. It's a great way to get data for it on, but it's a little risky, you could say," she says. "But the other's an on-site inspection, to make sure the tools are in working order," she says. "And that the connection that determines the emissions testings is also in working order, that there are no spoofs in the system, and such," she says. "A lot of folks get around this - after all, think of all the customized engines out there," she says. "So what I want you to do is break into the host of the local Department of Emissions Control, and separately, into the Department of Health and Safety, and insert copies of these inspection reports," she explains. "That'll require you to post two separate file operations in two different Hosts," she says. "Dirk MacDougall, my Sinfo dealer, though, told me that the hosts are linked, since DHS inspections schedule-share with the emissions control folks. There'll be a mild gateway between them," she says. "Still, we're talking about a green system."

Air nods, "Alright, you need the inspection report to be generated as well, or do you have that already?"

Posh shakes her head. "No," she says. "I already was able to get copies of them from Dirk Macdougall," she says, handing across a chip to you. "They've been prepared and both are for an inspection about a month and a half ago. I figure that it would be beyond the short-term memory horizon if it ever happened to be cross-checked, which seems unlikely.

Air takes the chip and slots it to his deck to load into memory. "Alright. Lets see what we can see then."

«Plot» Posh says, "Okay. Let's begin! Access rating is 9."

«Auto-Judge[]» Posh (#11342) rolls 6 vs TN 11 for "Vs DF":
1 1 1 2 2 9 = 0 Successes

«Plot» Posh says, "You have Deception-6. The TN is 3."

«Plot» Posh says, "Roll Computers + Hacking Pool vs TN 3."
«Auto-Judge[]» Air (#8050) rolls Computers + Hacking Pool: 1 vs TN 3:
1 1 2 3 3 5 = 3 Successes

As you managed to log onto the RTG, concealing your identity, Posh gets an uploadeded feed of what you are doing. Wide snakes of tube tunnels let you take a tram in any direction towards the inspectional services host - which by comparison is a somewhat shabby, formerly grand edifice, its utilities looking like workers in a vast government office, guests waiting for files to download waiting for their number to be called like in an RMV of old. Very 'government office.'

«Plot» Posh says, "Index to find the file. With your utility, Computers + Hacking Pool vs TN 4"

«Auto-Judge[]» Air (#8050) rolls Computers + Hacking Pool: 1 vs TN 4 for "Index to find the file":
1 2 4 4 10 20 = 4 Successes

Air isn't into waiting, queueing or anything else to do with being a cog in the machine. Well, at least he isn't in his decker guise. Who is extremely punky and anarchist. When in Rome you know.

The number of your persona is suddenly called, and you approach the counter where there is a very, very bored looking lady there. She holds out the form. "Form please," she says, not looking up. You were directed to the Inspectional Reports counter.

«Auto-Judge[]» Posh (#11342) rolls 6 vs TN 11 for "Vs DF":
3 3 4 5 8 11 = 1 Success

«GM Note: Security Tally: 1»

«Plot» Posh says, "TN 5."

«Auto-Judge[]» Air (#8050) rolls Computers + Hacking Pool: 1 vs TN 5 for "Something something.":
1 1 1 2 3 8 = 1 Success

You deliver the form to the bored looking inspectional services lady, and she accepts it without question, apparently filing it away, as Posh had asked. That was relatively quick.

Now it's just to take the side door that you can see over to the health and safety inspectional services system.

«Plot» Posh says, "Access: TN 9. (Roll vs 3 with your Utility)"

«Auto-Judge[]» Air (#8050) rolls Computers + Hacking Pool: 1 vs TN 3 for "This can't be worth 10k":
2 3 4 5 5 5 = 5 Successes

«Auto-Judge[]» Posh (#11342) rolls 6 vs TN 11 for "Vs your DF":
2 4 4 4 5 10 = 0 Successes

Here in the last host, relatively simply, you take another number. You'll have to both index again and then save the file before you can gracefully logoff.

The line counts down, slowly…it seems like the host is not ready to serve you either.

«Plot» Posh says, "You must take a wait action, then index, then file to save."

«Plot» Posh says, "Computers + Hacking Pool vs TN 4 for the wait action."

«Auto-Judge[]» Posh (#11342) rolls 6 vs TN 11 for "Vs DF":
2 4 4 5 7 11 = 1 Success

«Auto-Judge[]» Air (#8050) rolls Computers + Hacking Pool: 1 vs TN 4 for "Wait.":
1 1 3 4 5 10 = 3 Successes

As your number is called, you must, however go to the correct line, and your ticket doesn't say which one that is, unfortunately.

Well, this must be why there happen to be so many illegal chop shops that can be found, it seems. Vehicles just aren't given the same attention as guns.

«Auto-Judge[]» Air (#8050) rolls Computers + Hacking Pool: 1 vs TN 4 for "Indexing your face.":
1 4 4 7 7 11 = 5 Successes

«Auto-Judge[]» Posh (#11342) rolls 6 vs TN 11 for "Vs DF":
2 3 3 4 5 10 = 0 Successes

The last thing you must to is to deliver the file to the bored man now sitting at /this/ deck, the representation of a utility that handles the scheduling for the health and safety inspections.

«Auto-Judge[]» Air (#8050) rolls Computers + Hacking Pool: 1 vs TN 5:
1 2 4 5 5 11 = 3 Successes

«Auto-Judge[]» Posh (#11342) rolls 6 vs TN 11 for "Vs DF":
1 4 4 4 5 5 = 0 Successes

With the data inserted you may depart now, mission accomplished. Of course, it might be worthwhile to check the Host for paydata, but that, of course, is up to you.

«Auto-Judge[]» Air (#8050) rolls Computers + Hacking Pool: 1 vs TN 5:
1 3 3 4 4 7 = 1 Success

«Auto-Judge[]» Posh (#11342) rolls 6 vs TN 11 for "Vs DF":
3 4 4 4 4 5 = 0 Successes

Air completes the most mundane of decking tasks, twice, sneers at the utilities which were even designed to look bored and then gracefully logs off. Opening his eyes he looks over at Posh and arches an eyebrow questioningly.

Posh gives you a bright smile. "Fabulous!" she says. "I think I certainly learned a lot," she says, tilting her head, hopping forward to give you a quick, rather blowsy hug. "Well, I'm sorry that was rather bored, but, at least you know you're a real decker. I can tell by the sneering look on your face."

Air accepts the hug before he's even unjacked, which means when he returns it, the attache case gets yanked off the coffee table due to the wire becoming wrapped around them. It hits the floor with a bang which Air mostly ignores, only pulling the cable out of his sleeve and dropping it. He quips as he does, "I've always been a real decker, it's just that I recently learned how to deck."

"Well, thanks for letting me ride shotgun," says Posh, looking a little sheepishly there. "I…" She chuckles. "I think it was nice to learn something," she says. "I imagine if there were any valuable paydata, or really anything other…" She shrugs. "See, these inspections aren't a big deal. It's rather paranoid to even go this far, so that might be why it's not so rough," she says, thoughtfully.
