The Rez - Haven Island Compound
The small islet inside of Quincy Reservoir holds a single house and a handful of landmarks. The southern shore anchors the tether for a barge which ferries people across the water to the mainland. The loose soil on this island is cleaner than the rest of the Rez and devoid of the random debris one usually sees. There are no plants. The only stamp on the land here is a bonfire campsite set in the northwest of the islet that is continually burning as if like a lighthouse for the ferry.
The two-story house takes up the majority of the islet, set in the eastern half of the land here. The walls resemble industrial era brick and mortar that has bland brown stucco pasted over it. In patches the stucco is worn off, revealing the brick lacing. It has no windows and a single, large metal door on its southern face. Next to the door is a large metal sign that is bolted to the wall and has words faded by years of abuse written on it that say 'Quincy Reservoir Water Processing Station'. Above it, the word 'Haven' has been spray painted in White.

«Auto-Judge[Mew!]» Nine (#10584) rolls Athletics vs TN 4:
2 4 4 4 = 3 Successes
Nine never seems to sleep here at Haven for some reason. She leaves and then eventually returns, in a hurry to get things done. She is rushing rushing till life's no fun. All she really gotta to do is live and die… but she's in a hurry and don’t know why! — She appears after riding the ferry across, doing that hopping up and down thing that little kids do when they want something to GO FASTER. Finally, while holding onto the end of the mooring rope, she leaps from the ferry before it has touched land, landing on the shore to run over to the pole and tie said ferry to it!
Some people sleep in beds, some people sleep in caves. Today, Selerik slept on the universal shipping container. It isn't a glamorous place, but it has an excellent view of the stars and all the points of entry to the island more likely to be utilized. He must've been half-aware a while, because when Nine comes out his head perks up and he watches the display with amusement.
Nine finishes mooring the ferry to the island and then turns and glances to the right and then the left. Then, the front and then the back. Then, finally, after she has assessed that they are currently NOT being invaded, she moves toward the shipping container. She smiles to Selerik and then says to him, "Hello! How have you been? Is all peaceful today?"

Selerik gives Nine a somewhat silly looking salute. "Eye eye, cap'n. All clear on the southern prow." A half second to shift, and he leaps down off the container over to Nine.
Nine smiles and salutes back, calming down just a little. She sure needs to. Looks like she has been letting things get to her mentally and emotionally and thus are running her out of physical steam. She smiles as Selerik comes her way and offers out open arms for some snuggling! But…?

«Plot» Nine says, "No one sees anything at this range! Proceed!"
Selerik parts his arms, picking up Nine in a brief hug. It is fairly evidence he could throw her around like a fancy rag doll, but he isn't inclined to any such thing. "So I've been meaning to ask, what happened to this Adam fellah?"
Nine is very happy to be picked up and hugged! She loves it, much like a cat, and then purrs as she snugs back. But, then turns a little sad, "He claims that he is on vacation. But, I dunno. Probably taking care of bidness."
Nine misses him very much!
Selerik sets Nine back down, looking out at the Haven facilities a few moments before tilting his head. "Well, I certainly know what it’s like to have a wanderlust. I'm sure he'll come back if able, once all his matters are done." He gives Nine a grin. "'Course, knowing I've got the meta advantage for aging and all, well, the time between visits seems less somehow."
Nine smiles and then glances in the direction Selerik did for a moment before looking back to him. "Ah, perhaps! Do you know that I am a half elf?" Curiously, she inquires to him. She's got none of the perks that they get, other than maybe looking quite a bit younger than she actually is.
Selerik gives Nine's ears a thoughtful look. "Interesting to know. I'm a night one, technically." He waves his hands over his eyes. "Bit sensitive to the sun, and I have to shave in the most awkward of places. I'm fuzzy enough to pass for a cat when I don't." A small nod of his head, before he glances over the area. "You know, its been quiet since I got here. Who are we worried about attacking you, exactly? Other than the occasional nutter toxic shaman."
…
Beyond the waters of the Quincy Reservoir, a stealthy man has chosen this day and set up his sniper rifle in a derelict building. He had his fixer convince a brand new gang to help fund his cause… one where he randomly snipes the Haven residents from afar until there are no more left to defend the place…
It took some climbing to get up here, what with floorboards being misaligned, as well as the fact that he has some gear with him. Like a Colt Equalizer, as well as some secure armored clothing… and money! that his teammate conned out of the gang with reassurance that they would get a piece of the pie. Some of them are in a van out back, waiting for him to finish up, so they can relocate him.
…
Nine smiles brightly, "I know a night-one, a cat shaman. She drives a Harley!" but then goes quiet and listens to the rest of it before saying to him, "Th—"

«Plot» Nine says, "Selerik @ 31, HomeBoy @ 16, Nine @ 11!"
Selerik is not a doctor. He isn't an munitions expert, able to identify a silenced weapon's retort and impact. What he is, is a runner who has been doing it for ten years without dying. More often than not, for fun rather than payment. You hone certain reflexes in that line of work, and those reflexes kick in before he asks the obvious questions. Hands reach out for Nine, and with all the care of someone cradling a rugby ball to get down field, he ferries her to the nearest cover available at a sprint. "Are you alright?"
…
The fellow uses a SmartLink system, having fun like on a video game as he zeroed in on Nine, but she shifted slightly before the shot hit her, and then he curses at not having killed her. Perhaps, she has Cat's luck? And, he goes to trail her again with the Colt Equalizer, but Selerik grabs up Nine and moves her behind the cover of the haven house. Now that they have complete and wonderful cover, the attacker readjusts his position instead of taking another shot just yet. He might have to circle around, but he is far out, and it will take some time.
…
Nine grits her teeth, and she decides to cast a spell to speed up her reflexes as she is brought into the cover, her emerald sash about her waist line glows. Makes her wonder why she did not have herself boosted beforehand. Silly woman. Shoulda woulda coulda.

Selerik looks over Nine's leg once they are behind cover, a hand slipping to his back and revealing the savior medkit he keeps there. Must double as armor or back support, it fits in the jacket rather snugly. "I do seem to remember that. Looks like you've been punctured. Should be able to wrap that and fix you up, a few painkillers and you'll be operational enough."
Nine sighs but feels better a bit due to Selerik being here and helping her, but is also dually afraid that he will get hurt and that they will both die. "Uhm. Yes." She glances around with scrutinizing green eyes at the area around them before whispering, "Will you please? I will keep watch and stun bolt anyone that looks like they have a gun!" She does not want to be looking down when she might have a shot to cast something. Nine gets out the binoculars from her greatcoat!

Nine scans the area near the buildings out in the beyondness, but she does not look up in their tops. She looks at the ground near them, because the guy is going to have to find a new roost if he wants to shoot now that they are not in line of sight with his original one. Her lip twitches a little as the work is done on her leg, but she does not move it at all, being a good patient!
You say "I don't see him yet, he might move to shoot again, or he might bail and wait for another day."
Selerik grunts a bit. "So we've got a shooter. Based on how it hit your leg I've got a decent idea of what direction they were coming from, and now we've got a bullet. Bad idea, giving a mage a bullet."
Nine nods a moment and then says softly to Selerik, "Maybe, If you point, uhm, and if you want to watch over my body, I could go astral and try to find them that way, based on their aura?"
…
Of course, by this time, the sniper gathered up his gear and then moved to a window in the back of the building in which he roosted and rappelled down to the van awaiting him.
…
Let Nine get shot at twice? Nope. "Lets move you inside. Go astral, do your thing, I'll go outside and make a nice big target for him. Give him something to shoot at, make it easier to locate him."
Nine goes wide eyed at the idea of Selerik being bait, but she knows that he is very experienced. Very. She hugs onto him, and then she moves to get up and collect herself. She seems to have pain in the gut area for some reason, a hand always going there before she moves to change positions vertically! Nine did not get shot twice, but it just seems to be something that she does these days! "Ok, thank you… please, don't get hurt!"
…
And, thus, the sniper does things that we cannot see from our vantage, but it involves an argument with the van driver, getting in, and moving from there.
…
Selerik nods a bit to Nine. "Yeah, yeah." He wishes he had his helmet and security armor for this, but what can you do? "I'm sure I'll be fine. The guy shot you in the leg, I'm fairly confident the worst he'll do is make me dance. Go on, and give me your gun. Helps with the idea that I'm trying to actively shoot back."
«Auto-Judge[Mew!]» Selerik (#3004) rolls 1 for "Medkit check for nanites":

Nine blinks, "I only have 2 Morrissey Altas." She has two but draws and gives over one with the gel rounds in it, "That one has gel." and it has a laser, and is in the heavy pistol category at least… She pulls out the 2nd, "And, this one has APDS in it…" but she waits to see if he wants it or not.
Selerik takes the first gun offered. "Oh, I can't hit shit with a gun, I'm just going to wave it around and look angry." He grins at Nine, giving her a wink, and then he is off to play bait without another word said.
Nine ohs softly before nodding and remembering how it used to be for her when she was just like that! But, she had some ex fiance at one point who run a gunsmithing shop, and so she started doing the pistol thing. Another story for another time! She holsters away the APDS Alta before casting yet another spell, this time, improved invisibility, before scurrying around to the door of Haven.

Selerik runs over to the cargo container and leaps up, climbing on top. Can't get much less stealthy or more obvious than that. He aims the gun out over the water, firing it once where the worst it'll do is daze a passing awakened catfish. "Alright, asshole! You want to take another potshot? Test your damned luck!" He is moving while saying this, pacing back and forth on the container and scanning the general area the shot must've come from. No reason to give a stationary target.
Nine can be sensed moving to the couch finally after entering inside the walls of the Haven house. She drops her invisibility spell, which Selerik could have sensed with his magic sense, too. She then flops down onto the couch where she tries to will herself to relax. She rests her hands on her tummy and then…
PROJECTS!
In the astral plane, she rises up as a figure not too much different than the one that she looks in the normal world, except for a few color differences and a few accessories. Her skin tone is completely silvery in reminisce of her time spent living in an asylum building. Her big eyes are still green here, too, and her hair black with grey stripes. Though, she does have cat ears poking up above her domed human ears on the astral plane, and her aura also seems to be sporting a dark-grey greatcoat, an exact replica of the one that her physical body is wearing right now while appearing asleep. Also, the emerald sash follows her in its essence to this plane, keeping her well up on the boosted reflexes.
…
Well, the van parks and the man goes up through another building, getting to a middle level in its stories, about 3 of them. It takes a bit more climbing and athletics due to the fact that many of these Warrens buildings are Hell holes.
…
Selerik can't see the astral yet. One of those competencies he is yet to develop, what with slacking off all the time. "What, one shot and you run away? Are you getting paid to be annoying and incompetent?" Selerik moves back and forth with a slight irregularity to his pacing. His reflexes are on edge for signs of an attack. Shifting out of the way of a bullet might be movie stuff, but perhaps he believes he is really that good.
(Astral Plane) Nine zooms away from where she rose up from her body, blasting off and landing out on the bank of the island where she watches her friend Selerik for a moment and the kinda attention he might be paying to any particular direction. Nine calls out to the beyondness, "Donna!" and then in zooms a water elemental of force 6 that looks like a naked woman. Yes, too bad that Selerik cannot see the astral plane. Donna is like the female version of Liquidator from Darkwing Duck, except with cat ears and not loppy dog ears.
Sexy. Selerik continues his shuffling step, scanning the far shore for signs of the person who took the pot-shot at them. "Really, do you even know who you're messing with? If you're getting paid less than fifty large, you need to go find your Johnson, get him to buy you dinner. Because he just ab-so-lute-ly fucked you."
«Auto-Judge[Mew!]» Nine (#10584) rolls 12 (to no one):

The sniper fellow peeks out a bit from a broken window, its glass but shards in its pane. He glances at the scene below and scoffs about Selerik, and he decides that he just might end this person. Show him what is up, yo!
«Auto-Judge[Mew!]» Nine (#10584) rolls Intelligence for "Scanning the astral from here!":
2 2 3 4 4 4 10 14
Nine catches sight of the aura in the window, but also spots all the auras that go up to windows to see what the hell is going on out there. It will take her a moment to discern just which one it is that has malicious intentions at Selerik: likely when they arm themselves.
The sniper guy backs away from the window and goes about readying his weapon.
Ah, one of the spectators backed away. But, the rest did not! Hmm! Nine squints, and then she starts to move away from the clean astral space of Haven Island into the murky and nasty… and… which kinda makes her astral vision blurry as she leaves the scope of the island proper. "Donna, if anyone attacks my friend, Selerik, go to the attacker and engulf them."
Donna looks to Nine and then looks all around like Nine, scanning the astral, too!
Selerik dips a hand into his jacket pulling out his flask. It’s a small plastic thing, so as not to set off MADS. He unscrews it as he paces back and forth, taking a sip before giving out a small sigh of satisfaction. For some people, a drink just puts them in a good mood. For Potluck, it does something entirely different. His aura shifts beneath the masking, going from frantic and carefree to a sort of focused and playful joy that one might find in a small child. Or in a cat as it removes the legs from a grasshopper. He continues to pace, though the movements are a little more erratic now. "If you don't come down here and stop being a bitch, I'm going to be forced to go to where-ever you are and make you cry. Now, I know what you're thinking. Me, a big bad man with a gun, cry? Yes, like a little girl."
The sniper fellow has enhanced hearing, so he can hear everything that Selerik spouts his way. It makes him rather irritated, but he keeps calm, and he brings his weapon up into the window.
Nine and Donna scan, noting a few people who are armed, too, but their auras reflect defense rather than offense… until the one appears in the window again that Nine noticed had backed away just seconds ago. She uses a gut instinct and turns quickly, zooming that way, covering distance at an amazing astral speed as a 4th grade initiate.

Nine does the only thing she can do right now, having already given Donna orders to engulf the attacker on the physical plane. Nine cannot do the same. However, she can make herself visible and become creative cover distraction. She presses her astral body right up in front of the broken window, manifesting intangibly around the sniper rifle that sticks out and in front of the broken glass shards on the physical plane. It makes a foggy and silvery something… something that Selerik can see: Nine in her astral cat mage form, plastering herself against the exterior window frame of the derelict building. Through his sniping window, the fellow can see her silvery glow, but he does not know what the hell it is?!

Selerik dusts himself off, picks up his fallen flask to take another sip, and looks generally disgruntled that any of it was spilled at all. "You made me spill my drink. Is that what you're being paid for, wasting perfectly good scotch?" He resumes his pacing, looking over the nearby buildings. "I'm giving you to the count of ten to come out here, or I'm just going to have to find you myself."
Donna assumes her physical form, becoming a puddle in the middle of the floor. Despite being a metaplanar being, she is very intelligent at her force and also has been around long enough and doing things like this with Nine for some time. So… she makes herself be water on the floor, ready and waiting for the man.
Sniper guy decides to pull his gun out of the window with a jerk as he sees the cat mage body that causes the silvery strange stuff before his window. "Frag." he says and then picks up his case and moves to leave, stopping though when he notices the water before him on the floor… wondering how that got there?
Nine moves in after the man and hisses at him while in her manifested form!

Selerik is still there, alive, and apparently no worse for wear. He looks around, the gun at his side being lifted to sit on his shoulder as he takes another swig of the scotch in his bottle. Seven toes that are off to market. Eight seconds ago you shouldn't started running. Nine." A smirk, another swig, and a sigh. "Ten seconds ago you should've started running, moron."

Once the sniper escapes what might well be a watery tomb, he rushes over to the sniping window and hooks onto it with climbing gear. He is already wearing an ascent/descent harness in preparation for get-away moments. He busts through the remaining glass shards before trying to rappel down the side of the building… with a big crazy lady made of water appearing in the window trying to get him!
Selerik drops his flask and the gun, planting one foot on the edge of the container and taking off immediately towards the shoreline when he spots the guy leap from the window. There isn't a handy jet ski and he can't fly, yet, so one hand fits on his respirator as a minor protective measure while he prepares to dive into the murky craptastical waters. Its gross, disgusting, toxic in all likelihood, but damned if it'll stop him.

Selerik hits the water. It almost looks like he is walking on it he is going so fast, but it soon becomes apparent he is not yet /that/ epic as he falls in and begins swimming. The respirator keeps any of the fluids from reaching his nose or mouth, though it does nothing to protect his garments. The form fitting armor under it all at least protects his personal crevices. Ick ick ick, swim faster swim faster.
Donna speaks Sperethiel, "Come back here!" almost like Nine might say it, if Nine was to ever say something like that! Donna assesses the situation and then grabs ahold of the rope that the man is trying to use to climb down the side of the building and starts trying to reel him in! She is taking up more and more of the slack as the guy is sliding and climbing down the side of the building!
Nine gets herself fit back into her body and then stands up, moves to the door, opens said door, and steps outside: just in time to see Selerik take a swim in the horrible nasty… water.
Can we really even call it that? Is it water?!
Nine looks on in horror at… not the man running out of rope on the side of the building where Donna is fishing him in. Or even the crazy lady made of water. But… at Selerik who is in the drink. It's… it's… It’s… "Oh, Cat!"
«Plot» Nine says, "Cinematic Time!"
Yes, the water is nasty, but Selerik might realize that, while down in it, there are actually some objects in the water. Obscure as they are, under the surface that he can maybe climb onto, if he wants to. Some of them are not as anchored though, and might make him swim more.

Donna is a smart woman. And, she evilly pulls up all the rope until the man has reached the very end, clutching onto the last bit for dear life. He is far up the side of the building… so it is either face her wrath or face falling, or maybe try to drop down and catch the next window ledge! Decisions. Panic!
«Plot» Selerik says, "Selerik is using a mix of short-distance shit swimming and leaping off of stranded objects of sufficient size to cross to shore in two rounds. This is made possible by the letter P, Q, and the number &(!."
«Plot» Nine says, "That is not a number. :P"
Nine almost wants to cry after realizing the state of affairs in which Selerik is right now. She glances up to the building, scanning the situation in detail before scurrying over to the ferry. She has no faith in her ability to save him from his swimming via swimming herself. :P So, she will go ON THE BOAT!
Selerik finds a mucky crate. You know, the stereotypical canister that held something unsavory that just happened to float. This one hasn't yet ruptured, which is not reassuring. If not for his gentle feet and the way they don't disrupt things, it might sink when he leaps. Instead, he scrambles up, removes a condom from his shoulder, and leaps without shifting the box in the least. He lands on part of what might've once been a troll's jacket wrapped around something unidentified - perhaps the troll, and leaps again to splash short. More crappy water, only to scramble onto a floating and bloated dead fish.
Why does it have three eyes? He doesn't know, isn't hanging around to find out, leaps again…

The sniper fellow decides to push off of the wall with his feet, swing once, and then let go of the rope at the same time in an attempt to time dropping down and catching the 2nd floor window ledge below. He whaps against the building but manages to grab said ledge and pull himself up with a groan into the building.
Donna becomes furious. She throws down the rope with an aggravated huff before she backs away to slosh down the stairwell after him!
Nine busies herself with the ferry, doing so frantically and getting it untied before sailing! …at a much slower rate of travel than Selerik is moving!
Donna and the Sniper chase each other like a couple horny people who are playing cat and mouse. Only, Donna is trying to eat him. Literally. Just, they are both at the same skill level, and the only thing that is working for either of them is that the man knows if he lets her… she could suffocate him.
Down to the first floor they go!
More sludge. More pollution. Another questionably floating body-shaped object to leap off of. He hits the shore and has another fun adventure of weaving through the thicker layer of debris there, instantly thankful for the padded protection of the soles of his shoes. He tears off his respirator, holding it in one hand as he takes a moment to gasp some fresh air. "Jeeeeeesus." And that’s all the time he has for bitching, as he is running after the bastard sniper with whatever slime and grime he carried along for the ride.
The Bastard Sniper can be heard crashing up a storm inside the first level of the derelict building through which Donna relentlessy chases him, trying to grab ahold of him and suck him inside of her like the horrible woman that she is.
Finally, the commotion seems to near a raggedy door that is barely hanging on its loose hinges. Perhaps, sniper guy has a comm that goes to the dudes in the van behind the building… for while this was happening, the van rolls around and into sight of the ferry that Nine can see. She grumbles, wishing that the ferry went faster, but at least she has her binoculars, watching!

From the sky, lightning comes forking down, intending to hit the van, but the aim is not good… the driver swerves in just the nick of time to avoid it!
It’s impossible not to leave a dripping, rancid trail on the ground as Selerik makes his way at a sprint towards where the vehicle just got nailed. Quite a visible signal, hard to miss! His approach is also hard to miss, and he looks pretty freaky right now.
The sniper exits the through the dilapidated door with Donna hot on his heels. It seems they are also trying to head for the van, likely because the sniper wants a get-away ride out of this Hell! A lightning bolt that came from nowhere, a crazy woman made of water, and then… an elf-like creature with toxic waste all over him… is enough to scare the piss out of the van occupants and before the sniper can score his ride, the driver speeds up and tries to leave them all in the dust!

Only… to ram the van into an empty vehicle shell on the side of the road while looking back over their shoulder.
Nine grits her teeth as the crash happens, but now will not have to cast anymore lightning bolts, cause the van is pretty much… fucked. And the ferry is taking its sweet sweet time. Tra la la.
Selerik grunts a bit, pointing at the sniper as he approaches. "Alright you son of a bitch. You can't shoot straight, you can't climb down a fucking building properly, and you can't even pick your god damn jobs well. I'm giving you one last chance." He parts his arms to the side, approaching with a sinister grin. "You want to hug and make up?"
Nine watches the lolworthy scene unfolding with her green peepers pressed up to the eye holes of her old binoculars. Like the coat she wears, they too were once in the possession of her mother, Nahimana.
The sniper has a crazy woman of pristine water behind him… and an elven man of slimy reservoir goop in front of him, and he just finally gives up and crumples to the ground, curling up into the fetal position.
"I surrender, I surrender! Please, just don't touch me!!!" he whines. Of course, most people would ask to not be killed. But not this time!
The crashed van remains mushed against the vehicle into which it rammed, and there seems to be no movement exiting it for now. Maybe everyone there is KOed!
Selerik makes his slow approach, then gives the appearance of the water elemental a bit of a startled look. "Oh! Hi there." He jabs a thumb towards the van. "You want to grab him? Me and Susan here are going to have a chat. Aren’t we Susan?" He gets up close, bending down next to the man without touching him. Close enough to smell. "That’s what they call fresh meat in prison, you know. The cute ones, with nice skin. I could use some new skin, you better have really good things to tell me."

Donna pulls up short from about to embrace the man herself at Selerik's words. She tilts her head slightly, and then she reaches back to buff her long hairdo. She eyes the man on the ground and speaks more Sperethiel, "But, Miss Nine Lives said to engulf anyone who attacks you." Donna glances over toward Nine, as if to get confirmation about what she should do from this point onward.
Still, no one exits the van. Yet. Nine is still on her way, close but not close enough to jump off the ferry to the shore. Maybe very soon, though!
Susan, as Selerik has thus dubbed his name, is hugging his own knees and has since let go of his items, his gun and case lost in the building during the crazy chase. He had to get rid of things and lighten his load somehow! But, it won't take much to find them later, if the crew wants to. He trembles and says, "Just, don't touch me! I'll tell you anything you want to know!"
Selerik snaps his fingers impatiently. It causes a little muck to fall loose, getting onto the man's knee. Just a little. "I'm not known for patience. Stop talking about talking, talk."
Selerik speaks Sperethiel. Terribly. He glances over to the elemental, blinking at it before speaking a short phrase in Sperethiel. <"Can you speak English?"> The wonders of a language barrier. Maybe it'll sound scary and ominous to Susan.
Nine calls over toward Donna and tells her, "Feel free to do as he has bid you, but only until they are unconscious. No killing." So, the water elemental grins, briefly, almost in Cheshire fashion before sliding over smoothly and opening up the tattered van. She reaches inside to extracts the driver, who was just coming to… long enough to scream like a little girl before getting a hug from Donna.
Donna turns while hugging the driver against her watery cleavage and replies, "Yes." in English this time, but it seems awkward.
The sniper fellow, Susan, flinches at the nastiness on his knee, but glances up and over toward the direction from which the scream came and his eyes bug. And, yes, the Elven words are scary! Too! He cries, "I asked a gang to help fund my wish to take over the island!" He starts sobbing now!
Selerik leans in. "Yooooooou? Take over the island? And when the gang decided they wanted the island, what were you going to do? Shoot at them? What gang?"
Nine finally makes it across and leaps over to the shore with the rope and does like she did before when mooring it, pulling it in and securing its line. Then, she jogs over toward where Donna is hugging people. Nine ahems and points to the driver who has already stopped moving. Donna says, "Oh." as if she almost forgot that she was supposed to let him go, so drops him.
The sniper fellow sniffs a bit and cringes, trying to scoot away from Selerik, "Y, yes… uhm, the Cuban Raft Riders… they're pretty new. Some rich kids… from the metro, needed a guy like me to help em out…" Then, he ducks his head, cause well, a guy like him…? He failed!
Selerik takes off his hat, shaking it out to the side. Oh, that’s disgusting. "I've never heard of them, but you must be telling the truth. You wouldn't be that stupid, yeah? Seeing as I know your face, your aura, and I could take a nice big ol' taste of your DNA if I got close enough." He fits the hat back on his head. "What'd they give you to help you? A crappy van and a shitty driver?"

Donna is unaware as she projects her affection onto Nine with watery snuggling, but not quite the same kind that she did to the driver and was -about- to do to the sniper fellow. She is unaware that there is anymore to do here, and thus, after the hug, just pops away from this plane and goes home to the meta ones.
And, Nine turns slightly to look back at the van. Both she and Selerik can discern that something is moving inside there. Someone probably got beaned and is just now waking up to realize the state of their affairs!
Selerik glances over to the Van, but doesn't panic. A grunt. "Who was in the van, Susan?" Make the man talk, give all the juicy details rather than guesswork.
"The driver… and his bro." the sniper confesses. He sure is bleeding info!
Nine narrows her eyes and then approaches the van after that info, ready for martial arts or… for stun bolting. Either one works. The gel Alta is still over on the island, so she cannot really shoot people without lethality.
Selerik nods a bit. "Right, we'll talk more later. You've been a great help, so I'll keep my promise. No hugs." He points one finger at the man like its a gun, and fires off a cheerful little mind bullet.

Selerik perks up. Did someone just shoot at Nine, again? He thought he'd established that wasn't allowed. Trailing more grime, he charges the van. No attempting to shoot through the vehicle, no fancy tricks to punch around corners, he shakes the grime from his gloves as they buzz to life, taking a swing with his fist angled to knock back the roof of the vehicle like one big tin can.

The roof of the van isn't made for that sort of torment. The impact knocks it loose of the vehicle, spinning clear over the car the van crashed into before clattering to the ground. Selerik points a finger at the shooter, looking and sounding annoyed. "Behave." Not a very intimidating word, but it’s rather clear he could make the man do it if he had to. Compliance?
Nine wings Selerik, saying to the guy "Yeah! Behave!" and together, the two intimidate the man so badly that he drops the gun. "Please, don't hurt me!" he cries to them, huddling among a few duffle bags of gear in the back of the van.
Selerik tilts his head at the man. "Will get to you in a second, stay put." He glances to Nine. "Got a spell to get this drek off me? I don't want to imagine the laundry bill."
Nine glances to Selerik and then winces momentarily but says, "I will do what I can yes." Nine finishes up her work, leaving Selerik as a wet alley cat, but not one that will spread filth and disease. She reaches quickly to her stomach and the other hand goes to her forehead though, not used to drain, but a little hits.
Selerik looks at Nine appreciatively. "Major thanks, love." Back to the guy in the car. "Both your mates are unconscious. You're huddled in the bottom of a destroyed van. Tell me honestly, what were you expecting to get out of this which made it worth your while?"
Nine smiles proudly, "No problem!" and then looks back to the guy at the same time that Selerik does. The fellow in the van stays there, stays put. He ain't going anywhere! "Uhm, uhm…." the scared kid sighs and looks down, likely no more than 17 years old or something. A human fellow. "An island of our own…" He glances through a broken side window of the van at his unconscious bro, "And, to rule the gangs in the Rens… with the water trade." But he's not one of the established gangs. Heck, the Cuban Raft Riders… is this all they got?!
Dun dun dun?
Selerik purses his lips a few moments, then sighs. "Kid, you're making me feel old." Selerik lifts a hand to rub at his forehead. "Alright. You want to do smuggling by water, yeah? That’s what this whole Cuban Raft Riders thing is about?" He snorts. "Then someone has to have some master plan, yeah? Your leader, What’s his name?"
"Uhm… it is about having all the clean water in the Warrens, trading it off to the other gangs for alliances against other gangs, so we can… become big and get weapons of mass destruction." He whines a little. "It’s just me and my bros, and this guy who asked us to hire his help." He looks over at the downed sniper. "Uh, our young bro, he thought of all this. He spends his time in the Matrix." Though, he does not seem to be at all forthcoming with his bro’s name, “Please, we’ll just call the whole thing off! Promise!”
Nine frowns some, "You're all rich kids right? Why do you care about being out in the Warrens? And having guns? And doing gang things?!" Nine is going off what the sniper said earlier anyway.
Selerik gestures, shooing the kid out of the van as he climbs in. Then, a bit more urgently. "Go on, stand out there and answer the woman."
The 17-year old boy scrambles out of the van as Selerik told him, and he goes to stand before Nine. He trembles, knowing that he is facing a couple people who can do scary things. "Uhm, for fun?” He replies before admitting, “All we have ever done is stay at home. It's boring!"
Nine just blinks, "You're lucky you had someone Rens-wise and nothing ate you before you got this far."
In the van, Selerik can find a few duffle bags with quite a bit of treasure. Like, Blow-up Rafts. Pirate Hats. Hazmat-like Diving Suits. Even… Cred Sticks, along with other gear that was packed for their not-so-awesome adventure.
Oh, not to mention: Cigars.
Selerik opens up the duffel bags, sorting through them. He pulls out a pirate hat, looking it over before looking to Nine. Words escape him, for a change.
Nine sighs and then she says, "Your brother watches too many Trix movies, and you guys should stay home, grow up, get jobs, be real normal people… cause, generally the fun and games get aborted when someone shoots and nearly kills your ass!" She is quite passionate about her words, and if she had a cat tail, it would flick side to side while she preaches. "And, that ain't fun!" Nine has a hole in her pant leg that proves it, TOO! She even shows it off to him, "SEE?"
The kid realizes that they just about had someone killed. That they could have been killed if people other than Nine and Selerik with similar abilities had been the ones retaliating. "I, I'm sorry!" he starts crying. "How will we ever get home without the van? That was my Dad's van, too…"
Selerik shakes his head. He sorts through the duffel a little bit more, then drops it down into the ruined van. "I've seen more professional jobs and sounder equipment wielded by girl scouts." He scratches at the tip of his nose thoughtfully. "We're going to be taking the guns and selling them for scrap. Good luck getting a tow service for your van. I'm tempted to take everything and drop you off in the FTZ buck-ass naked."
Nine agrees. If the fellow had been wielding something more awesome, likely… she really would be dead. But, Colt Equalizers have their limits. Nine grins about the things that Selerik says, "Mmm. I think we should! Boogedy boogedy!" Nine gets out her pocket secretary, dials something, and then a car nearby that was colored to look like the surroundings starts up and heads this way. "and call their folks too!" Nine grins. She even imagines what she would be like if her own two children grew up to do such horrible things as this.
The boy looks between both adults and then just curls up, not saying anything!
Selerik looks back over to the knocked out shooter. "The kids are one thing, but that slot hole shot you. I'm going to be making a certain example out of him." PotLuck looks back into the bag. "What do you say to putting him on one of these rafts and pushing him off the shore wearing nothing but a pirate hat? A little paint on his back, 'A Pirate Life For Me'?
Nine finally loses some of the adrenaline that was pumping through her and realizes that her head and her leg and her stomach hurt her a bit and sighs, but then the giggles catch her. "Yes, mercy for the young, none for the old!" Ah, what a savage little girl is she! She pulls out her makeup from a pocket on her greatcoat and then waves it a bit to indicate she might have enough eyeliner!
Selerik gestures Nine over. "I'll leave looting to you, going to escort the youngsters." He goes over to the unconscious driver, lifting him and draping him over his shoulder with no real effort. He glances to the other one. "You can walk. I'll get you to the checkpoint, then call your parents for a ride. Which means I'm going to know who your parents are if you ever try this drek again. Word of advice, never trust a man with a plan that hides behind a computer. Even if he’s your brother."
Nine motions to the vehicle that draws near and stops without a driver in it! Nine can be heard sing-songing, "Ok. You guys don't have to walk, though… And, I will find stuff and keep the guy ready for his rafting adventure!"
The vehicle that stops is a brown sedan, having unchameleoned its paint job.
Selerik grins at Nine. "Making this kid see the Warrens on foot is going to be an adventure. That’s what he wanted, right? I'm all about wish fulfillment, here."
Nine ohs softly, nodding a little before she pokes a few buttons on the pocket secretary inside her coat. The vehicle shuts down. Then, she turns to the downed sniper fellow, "Would you like me to raft him or wait for you to get back so we can do it together?"
Selerik grins at Nine. "Just take a few pictures. We can send an anonymous tip to the authorities so they pick him up later."
Nine ohs softly, again! "Drunken sailing and indecent exposure!" She giggles and then nods before scurrying over to the downed once-rifle-owning man. "Ah… hmm. You know, I wonder what James would think if he found pictures of naked pirates in Cuban-style rafts on my cellular device?" She laughs, but she figures that she can explain it all when the time comes. She seems to be fairly strong for a mage, picking the guy up as if it ain’t no thang and then fireman carrying him. As she moves past the van, her free hand swipes a yellow raft and pops its cord. It starts inflating as she moves along. “This reminds me of Cassidy taking naked pictures of our enemies." Nine cannot believe she is the one doing this, now!
But, it is funny!!!
The young man just gets up, ashamed and tired, and not willing to double cross the older folks. At least not right now. The rebel is totally scared out of him.
The other young fellow held over Selerik’s shoulder is still soundly asleep.
Selerik gestures, giving the ashamed boy a light flick to the forehead with unseen force. "Pay attention. You're going to get a tour of the Warrens. I see you looking at your shoes and I might just let you find your own way back out of here, savvy?"

The conscious boy opens his eyes wide and looks up, nodding, not looking down, and he follows Selerik into the DARKNESS… well, metaphorically speaking.
But metaphorically in the Warrens… is pretty much literal. Things are BAD.
Nine stops at the shoreline, the boat half out of the toxic water and half on the slimy beach. Nine puts the fellow down in there gently, despite the fact that he pretty much shot her with intent to kill. This was going to be fun, and not lethal. She loves not feeling forced to hurt peopl! Then, a spell is cast on the downed man's clothing!

Nine makes the cut of the clothes… so that they do not stay attached to him, and thus are easily jerked off and out from under the unconscious sniper!
Nine is a medical professional, having seen it all, plus also having a man that is a lot more sexy than this grease ball, so she does not really ogle him, but she does cut away some of his hair and put it in a baggie labeled “Susan”.
The tour is rather descriptive, in the unsavory way. "That over there was a safehouse. That’s a place people put things and persons they don't want found. About three years ago, while Ares had it, something went wrong. Now anyone who sleeps there and isn't a dwarf gets their bones melted. Mind, a crazy human sam with bone-lacing has lived there for about a year. He doesn't get many visitors though, and his lazy eye keeps getting lazier. Over here you'll see, right beyond that burning barrel, the border to Orc Territory. If you wandered in there without an invitation, your anus stands a good chance of being ripped out and used to make sausages. That’s what they use to make Ripper Sausage, you know. Human entrails. No? Really? They sell that stuff in stuffer shacks, I figured people would have a clue. Well, you probably don't eat it anyway. Often."
Nine can be seen scurrying to the van to obtain a singular Pirate Hat and then scurrying back over to the raft, snatching onto the edge before the water was about to wash it off shore. She puts the hat on the man, takes quick pix, and then she pushes the raft off to sea… or at least into the Quincy Reservoir, where it goes floating around in the yucky waters. Nine gets plenty of giggles, watching for a few moments before scurrying around and picking up the loots from the van and transporting it from there onto the ferry. Then, she scurries from the ferry and over into the first level of the building through which Donna and the now-naked and-unsconscious sniper had their cat and mouse chase. Nine finds the gun and the case for it, and the money in there, too! Yes! "Tada!"
While Nine is up to all that, Selerik is being followed by the young man who dares not look down despite the fact that the tales Selerik tells him are scary, but not as scary as this guy who punched the lid off the van! He finally admits, "I bet our brother is being a jerk and got us all revved up and sent us out here because we broke his computer." He sighs, shaking his head some but does NOT look down! Right about now, he is feeling traumatized from all he has witnessed!
Selerik leads them right to the border, taking a moment to attempt to slap the sleeping wonder awake. "Come on junior, nap time is over. You've got to cry for yur papa." He sets him down, giving a friendly salute to one of the guards. "They got lost, wrecked their car. Brought them here to call their parents." Which is a damn sight better than he could've done.
Nine continues busying herself, gathering all the goodies from the building and the now derelict van, getting them onto the ferry and across the icky drink.
After being slapped awake, the dazed boy blinks and then looks around without comprehension at first. The other boy keeps looking up, not down, not daring. The border guards look at the two kids and then Selerik before nodding and asking if everyone has a proper SIN to prove this theory.
Selerik has his SIN. He steps in to show it to the guard. John Paul, CAS citizen, doesn't reveal any of the details to the boys. He just happens to be lingering and looming as they present their own credentials.

And indeed, the boys present their IDs, but they are real ones, thankfully. And, luckily for them. They would have been out here in the middle of the Warrens and not been able to cross. "Looks good." the guard says and then ushers the kids to the telecom, so they can call their parental units.
Nine gets everything on the ferry. Later, she will haul the bits of the van up into the 18-wheeler and take them to Carla and Leroy, but for now, she busies herself with starting to untie the ferry. She hums to herself, glancing about for any further snipers, though. She cannot help herself. Oh, and there is a naked guy wearing a pirate hat in one of those yellow life-boat style rafts.
You paged Selerik with 'Imagine the sound of music. You've seen the show right? The parentals look like that, suited guy dad and everything!'.

And so, Selerik did verify, sit and wait and check his wrist computer for games to play while he waited for the two kids to be turned over to their parents. Upset though they were, Selerik was a proper gentleman and never suggested anything save the misfortune of the two boys who were driving in a dangerous part of town. Bidding them well-wishing with all the kindness he can muster, he then walks away with daddy's credstick for the trouble.
Everyone is very oblivious to the pick-pocketing. It is pulled off in a way that no one will -ever- know that it was him, unless Selerik one day tells someone.
