Title: Easy Rider
DM: Indrakashi
Rewards: 20k Nuyen. 2 Karma. Indra is opting to take the 20k Nuyen over .5 Karma Bonus.
Contact: The Doctor.
*An Immigrant from Scotland, very gruff and short on temper. Fortunately he's a wiz at medicine, and has served in the UK's defense forces for some time, operating in a war zone, or pulling bullets out of patients doesn't bother him. Even if he universally thinks they are all idiots to begin with.
Players: Alyse. Lost. Vera. Lakshmi.

A call goes out through various means, filtering in from a more legal sector of life, The Red Cross, or at least, they claim they are, these days it's probably one of twenty private corporations claiming to be The Red Cross. They're looking for a team of 'Experts' to escort a team of doctors and some supplies into a hot zone near Boulder Colorado. Local Militia group has been struggling against local gangs and the less wealthy in the area are suffering badly. Given the situation, the Red Cross team doesn't feel their status as 'impartial' will mean much.

The meet is to be a local clinic off the FTZ where they've been loading up their vehicle. Today, 10 AM.

The good thing about having an expencive car, a genunine ID claiming to be a doctor and a need to carry very little in the way of firearms? It tends to make passing into the FTZ easy enough. Entering quite legitimately Alyse's little blue sports car hums its way up to the meeting point and the blonde elf climbs from inside. Dressed once again in her white leather jacket and slacks, Alyse makes her way forwards towards where the trucks are loading and pushes her glasses onto her face while waiting to see the contacts awaiting them.
Lost may not be a doctor, but she has little need to carry firearms either. In any case, she has to take a slightly less glamorous route to the FTZ in the back of a cab. Still, she manages to get to the indicated meeting spot, giving a slight nod of recognition to Alyse along with a reserved smile. She shifts her weight, no doubt wondering what this group who may or may not be The Red Cross have in store.
Finding the Red Cross team isn't to hard..there's an unarmed City Master with several nurses loading supplies, a Doctor smoking a Lucky Strike, and another ticking things off on a check list. Seems the team is arriving just in the nick of time! "Ah! Wonderful! Our protection services I do say Charles!" The smoking Doctor says, hurridly walking over to meet the runners..
Alyse doesn't screw up her face at the smoking, which is a plus in her book. Instead she moves forwards to extend a hand to the approaching doctor. "We understand you've been having some deliverery problems?" she says lightly. Lost's arrival earns a smile, but behind the glasses Alyse is all business.
The dark-haired elf surveys the doctor, extending her own hand as well. "And it would appear you're trying to ease the suffering of those in need. So it certainly wouldn't stand for your people to be in any undue danger, especially when they're trying to help." It would appear the use of The Red Cross name has inspired goodwill in her, or perhaps she's merely motivated by the thought of helping people.
The Doctor is quick to shake hands with people, they seem like a friendly bunch! "Expected troubles, driving into a war zone and all of that. Wonderful profession!" He is -way- to happpy about this…though any one who can perceive his emotions and state of mind can tell he's strained, and forcing this facade. "If you'd come with me, we have some paper work. Liability, all of that. We can't be sued for your injuries!"
A redheaded elf saunters up to the team, dressed certainly street enough, saunters up, unable to keep a laugh from her face, apparently, at something the femme troll next to her had said. She shakes her head. "I don't believe it. Simply don't believe it," she says, offering a friendly smile and a dip of her head to each of the others assembled. "Glad to be of service to a decent cause," she says. "Paper work? Perhaps you can send a copy to our lawyer," she then says, with a little smile. "I'm sure he'll indemnify you appropriately." She then pulls out her pocsec and hands it over, offering for Nigel Findrey, or more likely, a convenient paralegal at his office, can draft the needed responses giving the docs what they need without compromising identity. At least, if he bothers to take her call…
When someone calls you in for a run, the usual thing for a Shadowrunner to do is to look at your bank account. Do I really need this kind of trouble today? But in Lakshmi's case, that answer is 'oh god I hope it pays super well'. This is why she arrives. Arrives, wearinga nifty-looking set of clothes. Padded here and there, surely. Gloves on her hands, but she keeps those hands in her pockets, so only a bit of the gloves show. An earplug cellphone. Oh, and she's a Troll, so there's that. Not overbearingly broad, but tall and muscular. She puts in the work on her shape, obviously. But she had just gotten here when paperwork is mentioned. A long groan. "Just shoot me in th' leg," she murmurs, looking up. Then, to the redheaded Elf. "Or, better yet, you do it. Or th' lawyer does. He calls it clean, it's clean." Troll logic. "Won't even need to worry 'bout reading."
The man isn't phased by lawyers being involved..infact, for Runners, it's likely a first, but he's an upstanding Citizen and knows nothing of the Shadows. At all. Still, the paper work is bare bones, it's really an agreement to terms. Escort and protection in exchange for the sum of twenty thousand <Per> with pending bonuses if unforeseen problems arise.

"Wonderful! We'll be departing in several hours, at that time, if you could return with a signed contract, we would greatly appreciate it!" The doctor who was shaking hands says, checking his pocsec. Several hours indeed.

The Doctor gets a wary glance from Lost as paperwork is mentioned. But as the redheaded elf and the troll arrive, she gives each of them a nod in turn. The redhead's mention of a lawyer, leads to a somewhat relieved expression forming on her face, and she takes the opportunity to nod in agreement with the idea of getting a member of the legal tribe to intervene. "That doesn't leave us much time to prepare…" Lost muses aloud, fixing her eyes on the Doctor, "Do you have an sort of idea of what you expect to run into enroute. Any sort of info you might have will undoubtedly assist us in making sure we can transport your people and materials safely to your destination."
Alyse reads over the contract, curious enough about what might be contained in it even if she isn't going to sign a real name on such a thing. "And are you providing further security then us, or should we be considered the primary and only line of defense?"
The Doctor taps his Lucky Strike before taking another drag and responding. "Trouble? Well, we suspect the local Militia will try to either stop us to take supplies..or try to kill any one driving through." He says and looks at Alyse more closely. "Only line." He admits.

Vera nods. "Well, thank you," she says, as the simple legal matter is dealt with, and nods, and then turns to the others. "Any basic equipment that you think you might need, now's the time. I can get something for us pretty quickly," she says. "I can let you know pretty quickly if it's out of your paygrade, but we should have basic armor, comms, and a backup weapon." She smiles. "And maybe grenades."
«Plot» Indrakshi says, "The contract states pay, estimated time of contract, and that Red Cross can not be sued for injuries sustained when performing your duties."
Lakshmi grunts with dissatisfaction at the talk of militia. "Just get me close and we'll be fine." Nevermind the fact that shotguns are, indeed, a thing. "Maybe a long, sturdy stick… Like a broom." She's really planning on hitting people with a broom? "Or like. A stopsign." Oh. Troll with a stopsign. That's a little more intimidating. And now that she doesn't have to worry about the contract, as it's dealt with, she's glad to sign it away. "We need anything else?"
Lost nods in response to the Doctor, but says nothing in reply. Looking to Vera she smiles before shaking her head, "I don't think there's anything I really need in particular, but the offer is certainly appreciated." Looking to the rest of the group, she shrugs, "Though it would be nice if we had more information on what, exactly, we'll be driving into, I think our focus should be on scraping a plan together. Personally, I'd be in favor of trying to get our parcel where it needs to go as quietly as possible. But I suppose we could also just go along for the ride and react to whatever comes up." The dark-haired elf glances between the group, as if prompting them, "Any other ideas?" She asks.
The redhead nods to Lost. "The problem is that we'll be in vehicles, and I'm not sure how much we can expect our principals to be ready for some serious off-road driving," she says. "Do we have vehicles for us? I have a Land Rover, after all, but I'd recommend we do any engaging on foot, if possible."
A nod of the Witchdoctor's head and she reaches into her jacket. "Are we expected to have time to gather further equipment or are we to go with what we have?" Not that either option is particularly limiting, but a glance between the runners gathered has her aware she doesn't know most of them well enough to know their abilities.
The Doctor holds up three fingers. "Three Hours, then we want to leave. We'd rather hit Boulder before it's night time. Devil Rats, hot zone. I'm sure you understand."
"That's a valid point," Lost agrees, nodding to Vera, "Though I think they'd prefer a bumpy ride to bullets whizzing past their heads. At least, I know I would." Shrugging, she continues, "I don't have a vehicle myself, but it was my understanding that transportation would be provided, and we would be riding along. Still, it might make sense for us to escort them in a separate vehicle." She glances toward Alyse and the Doctor, "3 hours isn't much time to do any kind of recon. We may just have to grab a few things, hit the road, and react to whatever happens." She doesn't appear particularly confident in that plan, though.
Vera nods. "Well, I've gone one of my stashes in the CAS sector if you guys want to head there and back," she says, with a little shrug. "Or, I could order in something quick and dirty," she says, turning to agree with the doctors. "It's not the ride I'm worried about, it's the driver. Do we want to risk breaking an axle off road?" she asks. "Since we've got the armor," she says, indicating the Citymaster, "it seems like we should just dismount to neutralize anything we can't just drive past."
Lakshmi mumbles something along the lines of agreement, pulling an electronic cigarette from her pocket to puff on. No fire, no smoke. Just vapor. But as she does, it reveals she's wearing shock gloves. Not lethal, of course, but still a weapon. Kind of. "Knife-ears here makes a good point," she notes, thumbing over towards Vera, "axles and breakin'. If we could, just attach a snowplow to th' car, drive on through. But uh… I'm partial to beating faces in."

Vera nods. "Let me set up a quick meet with my fix, I'm sure he'll be able to scare up a troll-sized armored duster soon enough," Vera says with a grin. "Perhaps even SecureTech," she says. "What about comms? Everyone got at least a headset or something?" she asks.
Vera turns to Lakshmi. "Also, enter your /actual/ size here," she says, with a smile. "Trolls ain't one size fits all any more than elves, I guess."
«Plot» Indrakshi says, "Plot Notification: troll Sized Secure Tech Long coat was purchased for Lakshmi. Subtract appropriate fees from her plot payout."
Lakshmi grins to Vera, leaning - hunching, really - down to do as requested. "See, this is why I like you. Not afraid to ask if I'm a size eight… Or a size eighty. No matter how easily I could sit on you and kill you." Well isn't /she/ just a delight to behold.
Alyse pulls her medic bag out of her car…and that's about it. Whatever is contained within seems to be enough for her. Grinning a little at the antics in armor fetching the doctor moves off to kill time checking over the supplies and making small-talk. Securing her earpiece she's quick to check people's comms before awaiting departure.
Vera grins. "All right, we've got to stop by Jimmy's fast if I'm gonna work him and get this coat for folks," she says, nodding to Alyse with a quick smile. "If that's the only thing we're picking up in advance, I think we're ready to go. Though I'd love a chance to pick up my heat on the way out as well," she says.
When every one has done their shopping..acquiring..or in Alyse's case, likely checking what all they're loading, and returned, there's a simple option of transportation. Squeeze into and onto the Roadmaster..or split up to ride in another vehicle. Vera has a Land Rover, it's as good as a Roadmaster for traveling old roads and dirt roads. It's not like people don't have CBs to talk with the Doctor team.
Once every one has arrived, and loaded back up..into the now rather cramped city master, any space not taken up by people ..has supplies crammed into it, it's time for the drive out of Denver. Checkpoints roll by, the rather official <and charity> based group easily getting past the check points. No one is showing off a gun to border guards at any rate, which helps. Then it's time for the zigzagging course towards Boulder. ooh Ahh..boring dead urban areas, and empty plains of blasted earth and industrialiazation on the way!

Vera seems to be fiending after a while in the Citymaster, with the air a little too close to seriously consider lighting up a smoke. She does, however, pull a little flask from her jacekt pocket, and takes a swig, and then also checks t make sure that she has a small inhaler, which she stows back away. Last, she seems to go through a routine of carefully checking that appear to be a pair of hundred year old pistols.

Lost is seemingly the only one to catch some thing as 'not' right outside of the window. Some thing that might just be another diliplated squatter building seems to move, shuddering a bit towards the road way. Some thing the -size- of a building!
Lost glances at Vera briefly as the redhead sneaks a swig from her flask, but seems distracted by something she sees out the window. "I could have sworn I saw something move out there. Something /big/." Her eyes go wide in emphasis of the word big.

**Lost identified it as a Juggernaut*

Alyse was off, clearly distracted by something, but Lost's comment makes her blink back and look over her shoulder at the toehrs. "What's going on?" she questions, unbuckling and moving towards the viewport to examine things for herself.
Lakshmi looks to the window, and grunts. "What, like a tank?" Obviously not worried. She puffs her e-cig and continues, "If it's a tank we're screwed. Make your peace with whatever. Y'know. If it's a tank." The cigarette is put away. "I think I'd have heard a tank, though."
Lost shrugs, looking over to Alyse, before grinning at Lakshmi, shaking her head, "It's not a tank… I think it might be a Juggernaut. Whatever it is, it's big, and it seems to be moving toward the road." She says cautiously, likely not wanting to raise any sort of alarm amongst the passengers of the Citymaster.
"Indeed we are screwed - we'd have to try to take as infantry," mutters Vera. "Without explosives. However, I don't think we're fighting against anyone with tanks, unless it's the cream of the bush war crop and we're realy, really unlucky."

Alyse actually goes pale for a moment before standing up, stretching her shoulders out and then sighing. "A genuine Juggernaut. They're ment to only roam the desert, rarely seen near civilization…" she continues while looking at the others. "And they're resistant to almost everything. Manaspells, firearms, heat and cold…" They're also the size of a small building and easily dwarf the citymaster, but she doesn't need to say that

The man driving the Citymaster slows it to a halt, looking back. He looks worried, it's maybe best the doctors don't truly grasp what the hell the thing is. "If we go back..we'll just end up right back in Denver." He says..and going off road in an area with a Juggernaught seems like a -god- awful way to escape problems.
Lost glances out the window once more, shifting uncomfortably before she looks to the driver, "Drive past it if you can… around it would be preferable. There's not much else we can do." She admits, looking around to the others for ideas.
Vera glances out the little window. "Uh," she says, with a little gulp. "I haven't seen anything like that before. Well," she says. "There's a couple ways around this. We could see about…well, how soon we could purchase in something heavy, although hiring further protecion out of our funds might be a better idea. But yeah, trying to drive around this thing seems like a way to attract this thing's attention." She shrugs. "I mean, does it ever sleep?" she asks.
Stepping up towards the back Alyse nods at Lost. "Drive around it, I'll keep an eye out and try to stop it if it comes for us." Closing her eyes behind her glasses for a moment before she looks at the other mages. "You keep an eye out for militia types, help if you can but keep focus on other threats." Flexing her fingers in her gloved hands a smal crackle of energy goes about her fingers. "Keep moving."
The Doctors are starting to become nervous as the driver begins to speed up, shifting through gears until the Roadmaster is bouncing down around the road, spewing gravel and broken concrete behind it as it digs in for purchase. The problem? The Juggernaut -might- infact get a chance to smash into the truck. Now that it sees it, and is waddling towards the road proper like, to face an enemy head on!
Lakshmi looks to the Juggernaut and chews the inside of her cheek. "…Y'know, we should just leave it alone. Plenty of uh… Other stuff to eat, right? Moving target, harder to…" But then the thing is heading to the road. "Aw, dammit. Y'know I figured this would be easier. More fun, at least. Militia. S'great. Punch a few faces, dodge bullets, cool." Complaining Troll.
«Plot» Alyse would like to lean out a hatch or door and take aim at this thing.
"Ok," Says Lost, nodding to Alyse, seemingly content to trust the blonde elf's judgment. As the vehicle starts to charge down the road, she grips at the oh-shit handles, knuckles whitening especially as it appears the Juggernaut is considering /eating/ the vehicle and its contents. "Yeah, so driving around it isn't going to work…" She chuckles nervously, looking around at the other passengers.
Hanging out the side hatch, Alyse holds out a hand to hold onto a bar or a person to try not to be bumped out of the Citymaster. "This might tingle a bit…" Alyse says grimly before extending her left hand, energy crackling through the air around them as she tries to focus the mana in the air into elemental energy. Time for one big version of the textbook mage spell she calls out in the elf tongue: "<Lighting Bolt>!"

When Alyse calls upon the Power of Lightning, it works rather well, coursing through the thing's body in a large light show, causing smoke to vent from under plates..and darken the eye as they explode in heat and it drops into the road..well. Taking up the road..which means slowing down to edge around it. The Doctors are pressed to the windows to look at it. "Charles! Would you look at that!"
Vera shields her eyes for a moment as she sees the lightning arc into the thing, liquefying its insides. "Whew," she says. "That's some serious zap-zap," she says, providing a low whistle as additional commentary.
Alyse's hair is standing on end, her body is shaking and she has to slowly edge herself back inside and sit down. That was about as big a lightningbolt she could risk throwing without hurting herself, but the shaking could be as much about magic cast as it probably is shock that she was actually able to kill such a thing. Whatever happened to the healer without a combat spell to her name? "Lets….not do that again."
Lakshmi watches the light show and… Grunts with appreciation. "Nice. Now to just… Make note of where that died. Might be good eats." Or, as she is thinking, be useful in some kind of magical way. Never know. "We still get to bash militia faces, right?"
Lost is admittedly impressed with Alyse's display of magical force as well. As the blonde elf sits back down looking shaken, Lost tilts her head to the side slightly, a look of concern on her face, "You alright? That looked like a hell of a spell." She looks over to Lakshmi with a grin, nodding, "You know, I was actually thinking the same thing. I bet Juggernaut meat is a delicacy somewhere…"
The Driver swerves out and around the corpse..well, lets hope it's a corpse, it could not be. Then it's back to barreling down the road way, towards their destination as the skies darken…rain is coming.

Fortunately, every one this time can hear or see some thing over the rumble of the engine..the sound of screaming micro jets as they get closer to Boulder, inbound on the Citymaster..along with the first signs of the gang vs militia violence. A small road stop up ahead as they hear the noise..and several bodies strewn about it. Now one might THINK the Juggernaut was here..but there's also a cheap sedan with a massive hole through it from some sort of anti vehicle rocket.

Vera nods. "Time for the PBI," she says, trying to shimmy herself over towards the door of the Citymaster. "And I suppose to earn our pay. Who else is coming on this one?" she asks.
Lakshmi pushes herself out of the vehicle - and with her weight out, the Citymaster might rock a bit to get stabilized. "Yeah." The sedan is looked at, and snorted at after. "So uh. Is that why you follow traffic laws, er…" Her attempt at a joke. "Yeah. Sticking to th' day job." She knows she's not funny. "Let's get this over with."

Lost surveys the situation. Vehicles with holes blown through them generally aren't a good sign, but what other choices do the team have? "Can we… I dunno, is there another way into town? I think we'd all prefer to avoid driving directly into a firefight." Looking to Vera, she nods, "I doubt traffic will be free flowing in town, no matter what route we take. Might be a good idea to try and scout out ahead on the streets, maybe try and find a nice quiet path for us to take." Blinking, she grimaces slightly, "Though I suppose you could try and clear a path as well."
«Plot» Indrakshi says, "Note- you all know there is a UAV rapidly closing."
Climbing from the citymaster as they pull up she looks at Lakshmi and Vera while drawing out her gun, unfolding the SMG. "Well, this is a lot more then a gang resistance. Anyone have a firearm that can take down such a thing?" Looking at her still smouldering fingers she shrugs. "We still should keep an eye out for thugs."
Lakshmi shrugs a bit. "Nah. I mean if you could toss me, I could get it." Either she has a very good deadpan-comedy face, or she means it. Very likely the latter. "But we could also go on foot from here, I guess…" Not to mention the doctors. "Get shot at a lot, though. Not like that's any different."
The Doctors and nurses are decidly staying inside…even they know what -bad- news is..such as bullet cored bodies and a Sedan. Chances are, these were some of the gang bangers, and the Militia rolled them..likely with the UAV that is angling in right now, sweeping into view. Even at this range, the single mounted Rocket is visible, along with the long barrel of a Machine gun sweeping over the group. May be trying to identify them..or waiting for orders.
The approaching drone certainly changes the situation. Looking to Vera, Lost shakes her head, "I don't… but maybe another lightning bolt?" As she says the name of the spell out loud, she looks over to Alyse, "Figure electricity would be a good way to take care of a drone."
«Plot» Alyse will hold action.

"Not a guarentee," Alyse says, still holding her SMG. "Lets hope the big red cross marks us as neutral enough, otherwise we'll have to find out." With that she keeps close and her eyes on the drone.
«Plot» Lost will hold action as well.
Lost nods to Alyse, "I think we're going to find out either way…" She doesn't look at all pleased, shifting uncomfortably in her seat as she eyes the drone hovering nearby warily.
Lakshmi looks to the drone, then to the bodies and car, then to the drone. An eyebrow lifts, and the tall woman shrugs before she heads back to the vehicle to get in. "Move over a bit," she mutters, finding her big self in the vehicle now. "We gonna go, or not?"
It might be a few tense moments..but the Drone does move off, as no one engaged it, returning to Patrol..and the Driver gets back under way..now things begin to look like..well, more inhabitated, the Doctor announcing they are close to the Refugee Station..which is why there's a road block. A bus rolled across the narrow street, several men in rag tag armor there, cowering in the shadow of buildings, and an aging RPKH sticking out the bus window.

"Halt!" They shout as the Citymaster rolls forward, the RPK Swinging around. These men mean business… <Also Intelligence checks>

That fact becomes slightly more obvious when the two in front start to open up on the vehicle, Lost hitting the deck quickly before peeking up and out of one of the windows. The RPK swings into action, tearing into the window Lost is peeking out of..to say it's missing is an understatement..and despite the Troll Sized friend trying to clobber the other gangers, they don't seem -to- offput, given they still have an RPK in a bus, but now Lakshmi is in the open, a situation never good as the gun sweeps heavy caliber slugs about.

See what happens when you are in the open? The guy watching you sprint at his buddies puts a Shotgun blast into your thick Troll Face!
That, of course, is the cue for the Troll to bust open the door. She's not angry. Or fearful. She's full of /glee/ when her boots hit the ground. She picks a target, and dashes over, electronic cigarette in her mouth. The man she hits with an uppercut? Out cold. The problem is that then, she's shot at. That makes her angry. "Oh no you did not just-" She's hurt, sure, but now she's got a target. Which happens to the be moron who shot at her. Bad, bad choice, chummer.

It doesn't matter if the man with the machine gun sprays ineffectually at the vehicle, Lost doesn't enjoy being shot at. She hits the deck of the vehicle, grumbling briefly as she slowly starts to get back up to peek out the window. Looking to the doctors, she levels what she hopes is a calming smile at them, "Don't worry folks, everything is under control." Though her tone is bright, she doesn't appear particularly convinced as she carefully tries to get a bead on guy with the RPK again.

Lost doesn't seem to notice Lakshmi charging out of the vehicle and straight into glory. But she does spot Mr. RPK through the vehicle's windows again, and lobs another ball of magical energy in his direction. Both he and his friend nearby crumple to the ground, out cold. She looks rather satisfied with herself, a little smirk on her lips, but eventually remembers there's one more out there, and ducks down to the floor of the vehicle for the time being.
The sole survivor of the Gangers doesn't care Laks is down, the weapons team is down, and that means it is time to cut and run. I mean seriously, he's just a street kid with a gun trying to shanghai the local Militia and make a living. He's going to take off running, trying to drag his buddy back on the bus so they can escape. He's pretty sure staying is a -poor- plan at best.
Lost gets back up to her feet and looks out the window in time to see the last ganger running away. Grinning, she turns to the doctors and points, "See? Everything's fine." Then she notices the troll lying on the ground out there, eyes going wide. Fighting to regain her composure, she looks amongst the passengers, "I don't think I can get her back to the Citymaster myself… any of you willing to help?" Without bothering to wait for a reply, she dashes out of the vehicle toward Lakshmi, trying to rouse the Troll.
Fortunately..you know. Doctors, who can do Doctory things..first goal is to stabilize the Troll..then drag her back with every one helping, into the Citymaster. Then it's a fast and hard drive through town to the Refugee building…despite numerous wounded and sick, the Troll is the first to be helped. Bullets need to be pulled out!
