Death To Lawyers

GM: Diego
Players: Wanderer, Mr.Terrific
Synopsis: Creative killing of a Lawyer
Date: Feb 23rd, 2073

SR - Saturday, February 23, 2013, 8:56 PM

«Plot» Diego says, "I will need consent. I am something of a freeform GM, I don't really have a story in mind beyond the basics, and I let you go where you will with it. I simply react as I see the world would react to your choices."
Wanderer says, "I do solemnly swear that I am up to no good. (I consent)"
«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "I so therefore give consent."

Word has come out to you two that someone wants some wetwork done. Its not going to be difficult, but it will require a level of capibility to make sure your not in jail afterwards. If you are intersted, you are to meet the Jay in the basement of the Ragdoll in the CAS sector.

Wanderer arrives with his small arms tucked away in concealed holsters and wearing his long coat. He arrives at the bar a few hours ahead of time and keeps an eye on the comings and goings as well as drinking a beer slowly to pass the time. When the time for the meeting looms he makes his way down to the basement to seek out Jay.
Wanderer keeps the bottle cap from the beer bottle.

Mr.Terrific will have a daypack with him and be dressed a little cowboy-style, like he's just returned from the wilds. Most of the gear will be legal, even, save for a concealed pistol and maybe the mage-mask is illegal too but it's all folded up in the bag. He scopes the place out with all due regard and then makes his way in.

Diego is seated at a card table, the basement usually reserved for private games. He nods as you both arrive and settle down, "Thank you for coming senores. I have a little task, none too difficult for the combination of both of your skillsets." He lays a pocsec on the table, and a picture appears on it of a man. Text begins to scroll across the bottom «<This is Francis Nevarro, he is to be killed in public with as much excess as possible. The job is to use his death as a message. Address: 5289 E. 74th Street, Apartment 332, Falconcrest Apartments. CAS. He works for the Chivaldore Law Firm here in the CAS. His usual patterns keep him in higher security zones, but never as strong as the FTZ. Please direct all questions as typed into the pocsec.»

Mr.Terrific , when it is his turn, types in, "How excessive is excessive enough? Is shooting him adequate, or do we have to shoot him, stab him, crush him, and throw him off a building?"

Diego responds via mental commands, a wireless jack plugged into the pocsec. «If you do shoot him, it needs to be alot of bullets. It needs to be clear this is a message, not just a hit.»

Wanderer reads and looks over at Mr.Terrific for a moment before he looks back down, waiting for his time to type. "What is our timetable and what message is being sent with his death?"

«Timetable is 3 days. The reason for the message is not important, the less you know, the better for all involved»

Mr.Terrific takes out his own pocsec and does the barest instalookup of the Chivaldore Law Firm. Anyone he knows? Does good work? Getting Too Close To Things Man Was Not Meant To Know? Pissed someone off?
Wanderer types into the pocsec. "What's the delivery of this message going to pay the couriers?"

The Law firm is not a major player, but has been known to handle some high profile divorces. In fact right now thats the main news blurbs. Its also rumored they are not beyond playing dirty to win.

Diego reaches for his pack of cigarettes, lighting one up. «<Payment is 20k each of you.»

Mr.Terrific types in, "That seems light for wet work in general."

«The target is not related to anyone with any real power, nor is the target under high security. This is not a difficult task.»

Wanderer pulls from his pocket a small leather case with two cigars in it and removes one. He also removes his battered old zippo and flips it open to light it. He looks at the price tag and considers it. "He must die in public or his death must be public knowledge?"
Mr.Terrific sighs that sigh. That sigh that simultaneously says, "I went to six years of college for this?" and, "In another week, am I going to be killing dudes on a streetcorner for 500y for my next novacoke fix?" He types, "Very well," into the pocsec. After all, he has a spell he hasn't actually used yet and would like to try.

«A public death can be less extreme, if its a private death, then it definatly needs to make the newspapers»

Wanderer gives a grin that makes his cigar shift and he taps into the pocsec, "Now we're singing a song I know. Make it 25000 each and his death will make news in the Soviet confederation."

Diego chuckles faintly, taking a drag off his cigarette. «20, take it or leave it. There are others available for this, I am offering you this because I respect the mage's reputation. You have no reputation in Denver at the moment.»

Mr.Terrific types, "Looks like a chance to make a name to me."
Wanderer puts a hand to his chest in mock wounding and has to give that a begrudging shrug, then types, "Well I can't argue there, but what kind of businessman would I be if I didn't try for a better rate. I can't vouch for Mr.T but I'm on board.
Mr.Terrific has already typed his agreement, and reconfirms.

«I prefer to work long term, consider this a situation to work your way into further jobs. If all goes well, I will be in contact again. I appreciate your coming on board.» Diego pulls out two credsticks, laying them on the table. «These are linked to acounts, there is five grand in the account now, but upon news of the completion, it will recieve a deposit for the remaining amount. Empty the accounts however you wish, after a week they will be closed»

Mr.Terrific takes the credstick in gloved hand, and beckons. Away, away! "I have a car," he types.
Wanderer nods his assent and palms the credstick, following Mr.Terrific, Erol having taken mass transit this evening.

Diego nods and smiles. "Take care senores."

Wanderer smiles, "Adios, mi compadre."
Mr.Terrific leads Wanderer to his Land Rover, a pale lime green at the moment, and opens up for to hop in. Time to do a drive-by of his office, of his home. Looking for vantages, looking for options, that kind of thing. He gets on the horn to Randolph Carter, his decker pal. "Hey, got some downtime work for you. Francis Nevarro, lawyer." He gives the address and legal firm. "Amongst other things, I'd like to know how he gets to and from work, any security stuff, anything interesting. Make and model on his car if he has one, and when he drives to and from work if he does."
«Auto-Judge[]» Mr.Terrific (#7242) has the Contact Randolph Carter with the following information:
----> Contact for Mr.Terrific (#7242) <----
Contact Name: Randolph Carter
Level: 1
Type: decker
GM Note: He takes his name from the classical Lovecraftian texts, because he imagines that he's seen them. Maybe it was drugs, black ICE, or really bad SIM, but Rahne was able to talk him down and put him back together, and Randolph's always been exactly as grateful as he should be. Even if he's not all that balanced on the best of days.

«Auto-Judge[]» Wanderer (#10733) has the Contact Angel of SIN with the following information:
-----> Contact for Wanderer (#10733) <-----
Contact Name: Angel of SIN
Level: 1
Type: id manuf.
GM Note: An elusive and almost paranoid dwarf, Angel is an excellent if somewhat notorious decker. Her nom de guerre of Angel of SIN being her most common name. Her real identity, if it even exists anymore, is a closely guarded secret. She's never met Wanderer in person, always through blurry video feeds or couriers with data chips, she met Wanderer as he was trying to track down one of the many fake idents that the dwarf uses, and provided him information sufficient to fake that identity's death. The price for this deception of his sponsor was to help set him up with a few choice pieces of cyberware and alternate identities.

The deckers info: Transponder readings show he leaves his apartment at 7AM, and returns from 6 to 10 pm. Sometimes he leaves his office at 6 and goes elsewhere, other times he doesnt leave the office till 10. Car is an old honda 3220. You get the plate numbers. Nothing stands out on security, the Office is downtown CAS, fairly good area so panicbuttons will get a fairly fast LS response. His home is in an apartment in a B security sector.

Mr.Terrific says, "Keep a lookout for cameras et al. We want a place with lots of them." Then he takes the man's likely route to work.
Mr.Terrific mutters, "Man's working up a hell of a lot of billable hours."

The drive by: Nothing seems out of the ordinary. Occassional patrols by LS, cameras all over the place like any decient neighborhood. Apartment building is 4 stories high. Mostly cameras, downstairs lobby does have a security guard. On the astral though the apartment has no security beyond individually warded up rooms. The office is different, it is warded, its in a building with three other companies, and it does have at least 4 security guards on duty.

Wanderer is going to head to the offices and scout it in person from a safe distance. If the area has vagrants, dressed as one of them and without any weapons. Similar for the apartment that night, using the ruth jumpsuit for cover.
Mr.Terrific will exchange commlink and contact information with Wanderer for this action.

Francis leaves his office at 7pm, going to a resteraunt for dinner, and then heading home alone. He makes it back to his apartment by 8, parking in the lot and moving in past the lobby guard and going up the elevators.

«Auto-Judge[]» Wanderer (#10733) rolls Charisma:

Mr.Terrific will eventually, when he's driving with Wanderer perhaps, introduce him to his ally spirit, the little rattlesnake spirit. "This is Neglect. He'll be helping us on this mission, casting and holding spells and so forth. So here's my basic plan. We catch him on the road. I will disintegrate his car around him. You will start shooting him. I will laser him. You will shoot him some more. Do we want to set his body on fire? We can do that too. Do you think that's enough?"
Mr.Terrific says, "We can both be invisible, and you can be silenced for this."
Mr.Terrific says "Then we escape."

Wanderer nods and hmms, "You know I was thinking about something more along the lines of hanging him by his innards out his apartment window, stark naked. But your plan has quite a lot of merit too. We'd need to find somewhere to setup this ambush. I was also wondering if you had an earth elemental hanging around in your back pocket. Have it submerged in the road and just pop up to play with his car and hold him still.
Mr.Terrific says "Can't do that through asphalt, at least not quickly and easily. I do have one, though, which we can use to slow his car down to a crawl if by some miracle he gets away. So all right, let's scope out his route, a location where you can make a shot and I can cast a spell, and two escapes from there."

«Plot» Mr.Terrific stands there geezus

You find a spot your comfortable with. Its not perfect, but its the best in your judgement. Its a three way intersection, his route takes him from the side, which means he is almost always going to have to stop at the light. There are plenty of roads a block away, so a little quick movement and you can escape. As far as psychological factor, well, your in front four different drive through places that serve breakfast. If you hit him on the way to work, your guaranteed to have a large audience and a huge traffic jam.

Mr.Terrific asks, "Would you like to try a dry run, if he shows and there's no cops right there, we go for it?"

The best place to shoot from is a two story building, a hardware store. Its even got a ladder in the alley that goes right up to the roof. Its got a good vantage on the three roads converging, and will give you a clear shot at the target as he arrives.

Wanderer nods, "Yes. Definitely. I want to have one day to see him pass and make sure we have everything setup. But first I need to know what the weather forecast is going to be for the next day. Else we may only have one day."
Mr.Terrific 's car will be parked a good ways off. When unseen, Neglect will cast Invisibility on Wanderer, then on Mr. T. Then Stealth on Wanderer so his gun is silent. Gloves on, disposeable clothes (standard armored vest).

Wanderer rides with Mr.T to the dry run, weapon in the back of the vehicle, he's gone back to his hideaway to pick up his rifle and all of its accouterments.
Mr.Terrific has a concealed compartment with chemseal for this.

«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "There is a 2 success f6 Stealth on Wanderer - so electronic devices, at least, can't hear him though a person might get lucky. Neglect takes Moderate stun and holds three spells."
Mr.Terrific whispers, "Go time."
Mr.Terrific keeps his eyes open (and his snake in the car). He is as sneaky as possible - you never know who might be watching or floating by in the astral. Invisibility is nice, but never a hundred percent secure. Movement by movement, corner by corner, shadow by shadow and hood over his head, he makes his way into position. Climb that ladder, get into position.
Wanderer approaches with Mr.T two hours early, going first up the ladder and sliding into position. He takes time to creep into position with stealth, not being foolhardy just because there's magic aid, and settles down into a prone firing position. He sets up his rifle on the rooftop and loads it with regular ammunition. He sights in and gets his target area, the lane in which the mark will be driving, and makes sure to note the position of anything between him and the target, ie. lamp posts and such.
Wanderer has loaded on his ruth jumpsuit a pattern of the roof gravel he takes a picture of with his pocsec.

«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "Now I stand. I do know about special paint jobs."

Nothing seems out of the ordinary when the honda 3200 shows up, the plate showing it is your targets car. He is fourth in line at the stoplight.

Wanderer zooms in to make sure the person at the wheel is our mark.

The windows are tinted, as are almost every car on the street. Damned mages. No cops in sight, shot seems alright if you need it. But your guessing at where he would be behind the window.

Mr.Terrific murmurs, "Hold it…"
Wanderer waits for the window to go down.
«Plot» Mr.Terrific says, "I will cast when he is drifting through the intersection."
Wanderer holds his shot until he doesn't have to guess where the target is.
«Plot» Mr.Terrific , if he thinks the car is unarmored, casts Wreck Vehicle at Deadly to essentially disintegrate the car around him, clearing the shot as he drifts through the intersection. Force 1 if the car is unarmored, Force 4 if he sees armor.
«Plot» Diego says, "Base OR of 9, +3 Body. TN 13 with Bgcount"

1 1 2 3 3 4 4 4 4 5 5 5 9 11 13 = 1 Success
Mr.Terrific murmurs the spell, considering possibilities, then upping the power as far as it'll go. This was actually the first spell he researched out of college and it's kind of special to him. Also, it's a Toyota, so it deserves every bit of the crush crumble chomp it's getting as he mana flows right down into the link.

As the car pulls into the intersection the magic hits it. There is a hesitant moment while the mana struggles to affect the complex machine, but clearly magic wins today. The result is like if every single part of the machine was hit by an aluminum bat. The windows burst out from the inside, the body crumples slightly all over the vehicle, and the tires blow out. The engine sputters and coughs smoke from it, blasting a loud blast from the muffler, which actually gets blown from behind the car. Clearly the driver is stunned, his hands covering his ears from the blast and he is now clearly visible sitting in the drivers seat. It is Francis.

Wanderer feels the exhilaration of his cyberware kicking in as his reflex trigger ticks over, the whole world slowing down as he breathes out and steadies the gun's faint motions sympathetic to his heartbeat. He lets his mind unwind and only the sight of the target and the faint information, not read as much as simply comprehended. Windage, yardage, drop, distance, his eyes focus in and he squeezes the trigger gently, letting the first of many rounds slip.
Mr.Terrific gives a silent sigh of relief when he sees no one else in the car.

Wanderer chambers and fires repeatedly, the whisper of the silencer and the stealth spell keeping him quiet save for the sounds of bullets zipping through the air to slap into the meat that was once a lawyer, leaving it a mell of a hess. With each shot the brass catcher fills. He takes extra time to punch a smiley face worth of holes in the side of the car
«Plot» Mr.Terrific took no drain from the wreck vehicle spell.
Wanderer then, that finished, quickly packs up his rifle into a satchel, retrieves any stray brass, and slides down the ladder as quickly as he can, thinking it now past time to get the fuck out of dodge.
Wanderer mutters over his subvocal mic to Mr.Terrific, "Sterilize the rooftop."
Mr.Terrific merely lines up that laser shot, waiting for the moment when the man's lolling, bloodspattered head comes to rest. The view is clear, his binoculars allow him to focus in specifically on the right eye. The clarity of the retina. The words flow and the power rushes - the laser from his hand, fortunately no rain, no haze, nothing to point easily back to this location. His aim is good, boiling away the flesh of the eye, boring into the brain behind, searing it like fine steak. With your one remaining eye do not look back into the laser. This fellow won't be doing any looking for a long time.
Mr.Terrific does in fact cast a Sterilize on the rooftop as they fade back and away.

Well, the streets are definatly in chaos at the moment. Several folks drove off fast, some backed into each other, and some just ran from thier cars. Magic is probably more frightening than bullets, so the whole crushed car look and the burning laser had more of an impact on the witnesses. Sirens are heard, but relatively far off at this point. You are easily able to make it away while invisible, and return to your vehicle.

Mr.Terrific de-invisos and de-stealths when appropriately unseen, and from there it's just a stroll like any normal person might be doing. (He can mentally contact his ally spirit to do the dropping at the appropriate time.)
Mr.Terrific asks, "Paco Taco?"
Wanderer shifts the jumpsuit to a local sports team jersey and loose jeans, slides the rifle into the car and divests himself of all but one concealed firearm, leaves his hat and wraps a bandana around his head. He hmms, "Yeah, I could murder a taco." He strips off his gloves and slips them into a pocket.
Mr.Terrific tootles off with only the sirens in the distance, and the firearm safely in its concealed hiding hole.

Wanderer makes sure to transfer the 5000 =Y= off that credstick before it vanishes.

«Plot» Frostlog says, "Log End"
