Camp Idunwanna

GM: Posh
Players: Posh, Blackheart, Macro, Imaki.
Synopsis: Through Les, Posh gets a job to punish a recently extracted researcher. They are hired to hit them at the campground their former employer tracked them to, during negotiations for the new job, steal the data the researcher took with him, and perform an operation to render him useless with split-brain syndrome. After a harrowing combat against an unexpectedly Awakened security team, the runners managed to bring Imaki to hack the terminal the data was stored in, and accomplish all objectives, though they did not make it through unscathed!

Posh has worked, of course, with all of you in the past, but the only one she needs to send a message to is Imaki. The meet location is in the office of Posh's auto shop cover, Dangerous Curves. The ganger who occasionally stops by for Posh to check on things, Tazz, is hanging outside having a smoke on his bike, nodding to each of you as you enter. Posh usually dresses up in black as Miss J for meetings, but right now, she's just in Omens colors, with coffee and donuts waiting. And with the other two Omens, and that talented young decker, Posh is smiling, that smile that says, 'We're gonna make money today.'

The blonde asian shows up a bit early, nodding to the ganger. She's dressed in a form fitting black microweave bodysuit, a single leather glove on her right hand and a black satchel hanging off her left hip. She walks into the office, giving Posh a nod and then leaning up against the wall beside the door as she waits for whoever else might show up, "Making money is always good." She replies.

Macro looks around as he comes in wearing his Omen's greens. He gives Posh a grin. "Always love ta see that smile on yer face. What's up?"

Blackheart sips her coffee and indulges in a jelly filled powdered doughnut. "Blingbling," she grins, liking the sound of nuyen on the way. She nods her head to the others, "What's the plan, Posh?"

Posh favors Nubia with a wink, and brightens as she sees Macro. There's a trid display in here, and Posh connects a datajack into the little module nearby, the fiberoptic cable connected at the other end…to her shoulder.

The movements and imagines on the trid screen begin to arrange themselves. An aerial view of a campgrounds, 3d scanned images, image of a husband, wife, and a few annoyingly perfect children, all whitebread and human, as well as the sight of a few security toughs, elite of the elite, trying to stand unobtrusively in the campground.

An image of the husband is superimposed. They seem to be making S'mores at a mobile campground, outside a Bison.

"This is Dr. Hennings Roarke, and he's one of the newest acquisitions by Universal Omnitech. Apparently he was extracted along with his entire family just last week. What is not known is that he had a double redundancy nanite tracking system. That's how we're able to get eyes so good here," she says. "His former employers have decided that he has no use for them any longer," she says. "But they also want to make a statement that if they are stolen from, the prize will turn into ash in their hands," she says. "In short, there are two objectives: Make our way onto their recreational vehicle to destroy any computer equipment that might have analyses or personal contributions of Dr. Roarke. And, the second objective, is to…well." She winces a bit. "Is to perform a particular surgical procedure on Dr. Roarke, with a medical kit. I'll sever his corpus callosum and, while it will not kill him or render him useless, suffering from the 'split-brain' phenomenon means that he'll indeed never be quite the same," she explains. "So that means we'll need to secure the site. The site is one that's covered by a wide net by Sioux drone security; that means that if there's what sounds like a hunting party, it won't trigger any problems. However, unsuppressed autofire is going to sound like a gunbattle, and the drones are likely to come running," she says.

"We can't kill anyone on this operation: the client thinks that would make them look sloppy, and in any case, there are kids involved. I've got rebound rounds for everyone, which should be all you need, but the armored security guys are going to be tough to take down with those. I think me supporting Macro in close support, while Blackheart especially cleans up wounded and takes out the family members, would be the ideal strategic approach. Then, Imaki will hack the Bison's on-board systems to clean any possible data, while I perform the little…operation…on Dr. Roarke," she says.

"Anyway. We have on-site intel. The client's offering 35k each for this one, as well as with pictures taken of the operational site, showing everyone unconscious and the doc with a new head scar…I'll be honest, I'll be recording simsense during the surgery. But in any case, does this make sense, as…macabre as it is? Is anyone unwilling to gun down, nonlethally of course, a family, cripple the dad's ability to work, because he decided to screw his prior bosses? Because that would be ideal to know now."

Macro shrugs. "They spend their lives screwing over the rest of us. He defected, ought ta know the risk. Someone jumps off the Omens, we'd sort their ass too. " Gangs, corps, the only real difference is the amount of money they have.

Imaki nods along during the briefing, looking over the data with a critical eye, "I could potentially mess with the routines of the drones but it isn't my specialty if we wanted to go that route. If they're running off a slave program I could take it over and redirect them or something. THe data retrieval should be a walk in the park."

Posh looks impressed at Macro's display of wisdom. "Any questions about this one, or shall we load up some rebounds, get on our bikes, and ride," she says. "These security guys are dangerous. No joke. Rifles and shotguns - it's the forest after all. So fair warning. That means you might have to stay out of the fight, Nubia, or stay in cover until you look for an opportunity." She grins back at Blackheart. "We cannot allow anyone escaping and luring security. I think in particular the mom's going to try to defend the kids, of course," she says. "So that'll be a wild card to watch out for."

Posh nods to Imaki. "It shouldn't be that hard. The thing is, I don't know too many deckers, and I know even fewer who could be of use in a close-in fight. But remember this: Stay in cover, and see if you can find a chance to run out and hit someone engaged with someone else. You're likely to take them down, because they'll have their attention focused entirely elsewhere, and it's very easy to win a two-on-one decisively. It's what they'll be trying to do for us." She grins. "So that means, again, Macro and I are out front. Blackheart's flanking and playing cleanup and getting aerial recon. Nubia's looking also to flank and close in and take out targets. That's my expected combat protocol. If there are no objects, well, the rebound rounds are already in my bike, which is out front, you two have your bikes, and Nubia can ride bitch on mine. Or Macros, if she prefers hunky ork men. Many do."

Blackheart nods her head as she listens to the briefing, making note of the guards and terrain surrounding the area. "I think a sleep spell could handle the family fairly well," she thinks out loud, looking to Macro with a smile before glancing to Imaki. "Do we have a count for how many drones are buzzing about?"

"There are far too few drones for regular coverage, but there's, in general, listening posts every kilometer or something. So if they are picking up unsuppressed autofire, they figure there's some kind of drug meet or feud going on, so the heavies will come by helicopter actually pretty quickly. There's a Buffalo Security Solutions outfit about fifteen klicks away; fifteen klicks by helo doesn't take too long," she says. "In short, tree cover will protect us from the drone surveillance unless we are escalating things to a warzone."

Imaki chuckles a bit at Posh, nodding her assent to the ideas and looks over the tactical information one last time before she steps closer, "Mind if I download the topography?"

Blackheart laughs at mention of battle trikes, "I like it, thought I should work on my orange mohawk and find some shoulder pads, I think," she winks to Posh. "Sounds good, unless there's a shaman lurking around, it should be pretty clear."

Posh indeed shares it with Imaki. There's the main highway about fifty miles north, with the campign ground (for the Sioux Nation) turnoff one of many that lead into the park. There's one gated entrance that takes one past the rental office for the big campground, that has its sites, intended for large RVs like the Bison, not cheap ones, rather far apart from each other. There are a number of approaches through the old growth forest, as well as trails, though the Omens' choppers are a little ill-suited for off-roading. "Almost wish we had a set of Pintos, tricked out, for this one." She grins. "What do you think of that for the future, Blackheart? Battle trikes."

Posh shakes her head. "No, I just wante to be very clear. If your weapon is suppressed, you may use automatic fire shots. If you are using an unsuppressed weapon, then you can also use single shots, because it'll probably just sound like a hunting or camp defense gun," she explains, with a grin.

With the opposition detailed, rules of engagement set, topography analyzed, and general operating protocol defined, Posh looks happy as a clam. Are clams happy? In any cases, she grins, reaching up to tug on her lapels. "Well. I suppose it's time for the Omens to ride."

Posh distributes around the rebound round ammo. "Now, we still don't know exactly what's going to work against the security guys. Your sun spells will be effective, shock hands will likely do something. But it likely won't be the easiest of takedowns. And we have to make sure the family doesn't get away. We're equal against armed opposition, but if Blackheart is flying and chasing fleeing kids to gun them down with rebounds, she's not helping us against the four guys," she says.

The ride there is uneventful and crisp, with several accesses to the park and its' relatively easy for everyone to rendezvous at a sight a few kilometers away.

"They're likely to not be incredibly alert, but they're sure to have a sentry. We'll be at a big advantage if we can take out at least one security guy unseen," she says. "I've been getting pretty good at sneaking, and I have a ruthi cloak. I'm thinking Mac and I should stay close together, with Nubia following around 10 meters back. Nubia, make sure you are always staying behind some sort of cover, especially after we engage. I saw the shotguns the guys had. They look like they /hurt./"

«Plot» Posh says, "Give me around of prep poses, cast your spells for infiltration, etc. Then give me a Stealth and an Intelligence check. If you have ruthi or camo, please include appropriate mods to your roll with ~ for stealth, also please include any eye mods you might have in your int roll, also with ~. Thanks. :)"

Blackheart zips up her leathers over her armoured bodysuit. She makes sure she has her magical talismans ready, and her microbead transiever on the same channel as everyone else. «Check, check» she says quietly, checking her suppressed XSG over, making sure the rubber bullets are loaded and not her caseless dum-dums she uses on gangers in the warrens. Once all of that is taken care of, she begins scanning the area on the Astral plane, looking for guardian spirits that might be lurking around.

«Plot» Posh says, "Blackheart sees the usual set of nature spirits in the area. There are no guardian spirits, but there's a single watcher, but it doesn't see her yet, as she gets some cover from the shifting, living auras of all the trees. It seems like at least one of the security specialists defending the family must be Awakened, likely."

Blackheart slips out of the car and looks around. She spots the patrolling spirit and alerts the rest before taking cover behind some trees and earth. She casts her spells, slipping her mirror shades on, and using her silver belt buckle to anchor her levitate spell, should she need to fly anywhere. «Let's see if we can spot the guard positions.»

Macro dresses for the occasion — nondescript duster over his armor jacket, balaclava ready to roll down once they're in the area, rifle on his back and his trusty staff in its holster. "Gotta get me some of that ruth sometime…" he mutters to himself as he moves out.

«Plot» Posh says, "Posh and Macro set off through the forest in the direction of the Watcher Blackheart spotted from the astral. They can see, through the treeline, the outline of the Bison, but with all of the 'cover' it makes any people very hard to spot. Blackheart can see now that the watcher is just hanging out right by the entrance of the Bison, it's likely more to prevent the invisible assassin from sneaking in at night more than anything. There are no words or extra security; probably they thought that bringing even the Awakened shaman with the watcher would be pretty high-spec. The target must be quite valuable.

Eventually, Posh and Macro are able to see a bit better. There's one guy in security armor with a rifle posted at each end of the Bison, vaguely on each side close to the big open side door, which is near where the family and there campfire is set up. There's another security person with a shotgun, sort of looming nearby. The fourth is out of sight.

It seems that the treeline is approximately fifty meters away, but the attackers become much easier to notice. Breaking the treeline or any gunshot is likely to do it, as well as waiting too long right at the edge."

«Auto-Judge[]» Posh (#11342) rolls 8 for "Collective perception":
1 2 2 2 3 4 4 4

Commlink-Sticks> Macro sends, « Remember, once we go loud we've got maybe fifteen seconds before they get a call out, and if they do we're in deep shit. Take stock and mark yer targets…" »

«Plot» Posh says, "You're following back, though. They had penalties to see you because you're not at the treeline."

«Plot» Blackheart says, "phew!"

Behind the the two heavies, Blackheart invisibly stalks along, sadly, she's not as stealthy as the others in the group, and brushes by a couple more shrub branches than she'd want to, any keen observer might take notice of something fishy going on, but luckily, she's still deep in the woods, where such can be easily dismissed as rogue squirrel activity.

Commlink-Posh> Posh sends, « Got it, Macro. Looks like there's two with rifles, the principals and their children by the campfire, then I see another one with a shotgun. I don't see the fourth guy. Will their spirit be able to see you when you cross the treeline? The range is not terrible…my submachine weapons are likely to be distracting more than incapabiting on such heavily armored foes, but at least we don't have a distance to run under fire… »

Commlink-Jett> Blackheart sends, « Do we have any comm scramblers? »

Commlink-Posh> Posh sends, « I don't, unless Nubia can do something neat, but I think she's more about the Trix. »

Commlink-Posh> Posh sends, « In any case, I doubt the Sioux would be thrilled about their parks used as a safehouse. They might call for help from their corporate operation, but not from the drone surveillance guys, I'd wager. »

Commlink-Jett> Blackheart sends, « the mage is likely in the RV, probably napping to take the night shift. »

Commlink-Nubia> Imaki sends, « We're on an encrypted line, and I can decrypt theirs if they have any, but beyond that no. »

«Plot» Posh says, "You don't see a specific antenna. Calling for help, though, would probably take a while, unless you trigger those audio drones. But is anyone using an unsuppressed weapon?"

Posh shifts a bit, waiting at the treeline, holding no weapons, glancing over to Macro, as she sees the security personnel scanning the trees. She tries to hunker down as best she can.

«Plot» Posh says, "The Bison itself is a big big RV, about 6 meters long. About halfway down its length it has a big sliding door. This sliding door is open, showing a bit of the seating beyond, a couch facint towards the middle of the van."

«Plot» Posh says, "About 10 meters away from this doorway is a campfire."

«Plot» Posh says, "Around this campfire are the target, Dr. Roarke, an early middle aged human woman, and three identical blonde children. They are making S'mores."

«Plot» Posh says, "About 2 meters away from the nose and tail of the Bison stand a guard in light security armor, armed with a high-powered rifle."

«Plot» Posh says, "Looming near the campfire, about 4 meters away, is a third guard, this one armed with a shotgun."

With no objections to her plan, Blackheart begins to circle wide around the area, giving the campsite an easy 100m between her route and it. Perhaps five minutes later, she begins to close in on the camper, trying to be quiet as a mouse, even using her levitate spell to avoid snapping on twigs or stepping on whatever varments hang out in this neck of the woods. «Almost in position»

«Auto-Judge[]» Posh (#11342) rolls 5 vs TN 2 for "Resisting Blackheart's F2 invis":
1 4 5 10 11 = 4 Successes

«Plot» Posh says, "Neither clears the needed threshold of 6 successes"

As Blackheart makes her way around, she sees that the fourth guard is on the other side of the van, apparently using a pad. Perhaps he's on break or something, but he seems less alert than the others, while still providing some security, since he's leaning with his back to the van. Sometimes, the treeline shortens to as close as 40m from the site (there's also a road leading south from this clearing) but it forms a roughly circular clearing about 50 meters in. There's really not much cover over that 50 meters either. And the guards look alert. A tough nut to crack, but not impossible.

«Plot» Posh says, "The two rifle guards have 4. 5 is for the guy with the pad."

Because the two rifle guards are positioned sort of so that they have more view of the side with the family than the side with not, there are much bigger blind spots on this side of the van.

«Plot» Posh says, "Situation: The clearing has a radius of about 100 meters. At the center is the bison. 10 meters away from the bison is the campfire with the family and 1 guard. The bison is surrounded by 3 guards. Posh and Macro are just back from the treeline with the family between them and the Bison, Blackheart is about 100 meters away from them at the treeline on the other side."

«Plot» Posh says, "I mean, Imaki is about 5 meters behind Posh and Macro, with better cover than them."

«Plot» Posh says, "Imaki, Macro, Posh. Roll stealth."

«Plot» Posh says, "Situation:"

«Plot» Posh says, "The guards can see Macro but not Posh or Imaki yet. Blackheart remains invisible, but the badly wounded Shaman is able to call out aura information from the Watcher to the guards, which helped them to spot Macro. Because we have partial hiding, we are using hiding state instead of opposed reaction, which admittedly is disadvantageous to you guys, because as soon as Posh acts, it will mean she can be acted against, but it gives Imaki, who is new, a reasonable change to not be attacked quite yet. Everyone cool with that? It just means Blackheart, Macro, and I are able to be attacked pretty much right off, and can attack, while Imaki has a bit before she can choose when to enter. She had posed being back from the treeline a bit to make this easier."

As she sees the alert happening, Posh immediately breaks cover from the treeline, breaking out into a sprint. She runs forward, foolishly out into the open, her arm-mounted submachine guns bursting a flurry of suppressive fire at the nearest guard with the rifle, who she seems to consider the greatest threats.

«Plot» Posh says, "Posh moves 24 meters closer this Turn (3 passes)"

Imaki continues to hang back, keeping a careful watch on making sure she stays within the shadows with her black bodysuit, catiously watching the goings on and deciding that it isn't her place to make any actions just yet.

The pair of deadly rifle shots ring out at Macro - perhaps the deadliness of the rifles was the reason Posh has delected that as the first target, and one catches him directly, center mass. And the third one, the one with the shotgun, levels his weapon in the direction of the running Posh, two brutal blasts ringing out into her direction…and harder to dodge than the rifle bullets, thanks to the choke.

Posh manages to close the distance with the guy with the shotgun, getting into melee with him, and she zaps him a good one as her elbow catches him in the chin. It seems with two of the security pros, who aren't exaclty pushovers, knocked out, and two others injured, the ambush has gone…if not ideally, thanks to the wounds suffered by both Posh and Macro, is at least getting back into control.

«Plot» Posh says, "The shotgun guy is almost down, while the rifle guy has a light wound. Neither has any combat pool left.

Macro snarls as one of the rounds manages to punch through his armor, but he's flying too high on the flow of battle to let it slow him down. « Note ta self, need better armor. » he mutters over the comm as he takes a pair of snap shots at the guard who shot him.

With a letdown sign that the shaman had to knock himself out, Blackheart breaks out from the bushes and takes flight thanks to her magical belt buckle. Just in case anyone tries to make a break for it, she's got the back covered with two XSGs and a sleep spell or two!

«Plot» Blackheart can move 20m a turn, so whatever portion of that I can do in one pass :D

As Blackheart moves, though, she can see that the shaman might have called on something big before he escaped - she starts to see the shimmer of a clearly manifesting spirit!

Imaki's well timed approach manages to shock the shotgun-armed thug into submission, leaving Posh and Macro wounded moderately, the family scared out of their absolute wits, and the forest momentarily quiet for a second.

Weave, dart, dip slam! The asian dashes forward, turns to the side and slams her bared left hand into the guard's side, unleashing the charged capacitors within her palm. Once he slumps down, she nods a bit and then turns towards the van. Without saying a word she's hdead that way, circling it slowly to figure out which entrance would be the best, see if there is any boobytraps, stuff like that. Any otherworld magic crazyness that might be going on is not her business!

Macro advances out of the treeline, covering the family and the manifesting spirit with his rifle. Of course, the rifle may not wind up being much use against the latter, but…

«Plot» Posh says, "A tie means that you are locked in spirit combat with it."

Flying high in the sky, Blackheart grimaces as she sees the spirit on the astral plane. "Uhm, guys? There's a spirit doing something it's not supposed to! Try to get everyone in the RV, it might go berzerk!" She concentrates and begins her exorcism rites.

Posh knows there's nothing she can do about a flying spirit with her armguns, so she turns and starts to emotionlessly take down the parents and children with rebound rounds, leaving them groaning, sobbing, but unconscious.

Imaki pops open the back door and slips inside, looking over the terminal before she flips open her satchel. She unwinds a datacord and plugs it into her wrist, then another datacord is unwound and plugged into the terminal's access slot.

Commlink-Nubia> Imaki sends, « Going in, don't let me get deaded by.. what ever that thing is. »

A split second after the radio chatter, the Asian leans her back against the siding of the Bison and lets her conciousness drift into her deck, then through the datacord into the terminal. The coding holding her at bay is nothing to the young decker as she slips right into the Host's data center.

When Imaki dives into the system, it's comparatively simple. There are little crabs scuttling about a paradise desert island, with a little bridge that represents the cell access. The little crabs help to move around things and deliver the files as needed. There's some simple IC around, that could make things difficult if the tally is breached, but now, Imaki is in the system. All she really needs to do is index the data to find the needed file, and download it, and then get away.

The spirit is difficult to vanquish, usually Blackheart has backup helping her with the exorcisms. Twirling around, locking in the rites with the wind spirit, she does her best to push it back to its own metaplane, "You do not belong here, return from whence you came!"

The spirit twists and screams in eldritch agony as it tries to break the chains that entwine it, the spirit chains from Blackhearts' fingers, but it starts to lose focus, lose its integrity, breaking and weakening further.

The shadow being within this tropical island datacenter flicks her wrist and pulls up the Index of the Host. A small magnifying glass appears over the panels of files, and as the lists scroll, the magnifying glass is looking each one over, seeking out any files that are tagged with the keywords she was given.

Macro sees the spirit weakening and fires another experimental shot at it.

The spirit's essence is dispersed under the combined efforts of Macro's rifle and Blackheart's machinations, dispersing the spirit that the unconscious shaman had summoned. Posh grins over to them. "Great job guys," She says, removing the medkit. "Can one of you hold him?" she asks, pointing towards the unconscious, bruised Dr. Roarke. "We're going to be cutting his head open, after all," she says, retrieving a laser scalpel, a nanite injection, and the rest.

Blackheart grins as she spots tracers streaking through the wind spirit, "Ha, that knocked the wind out of it!" she grins at her own wit. With the spirit gone, Blackheart comes in for a landing by the RV to take a look at the area. "Ready for the surgery?" she asks.

Posh begins her grim work, severing the connection between the hemispheres of Dr. Roarke’s brain. It will create split-brain phenomenon, which will severely impair his ability to repair numbers, causing significant trauma and psychological pain. Even if he is ‘repaired’ there will still be the psychological damage of such a personal invasion: but this is what the client wanted.

«Plot» Posh says, "Tally is now 4."

There is little that the system can do to withstand Imaki's efforts, and she comes to consciousness in a situation that looks weirdly like a cult murder, the children and dad and mom and the security guys all stretched out, unconscious.

Posh grins at Imaki. «Wiz. Fab job. But…but this tableau is kind of giving me the creeps. Let's get back to the bikes and get the drek out of here»

The asian opens her eyes with a little smile on her face before she unplugs herself from the terminal and her deck, spooling the datacords back up and flipping her satchel closed. She steps out of the back of the Bison and glances around, nodding to herself. A wink is shot at Posh as she glances over the guards and family, tilting her head as she looks over their target, «Wonder what he did to make himself obsolete. Oh well, his loss. File is on my deck, lets roll.»

Commlink-Posh> Posh sends, « He was extracted. His old bosses wanted to make sure his new ones got nothing for their efforts. »

Commlink-Posh> Posh sends, « Heh. I think Macro had more the right of it than even me. Not just that…perhaps they want to /ensure/ that their people actively resist extraction. »

It's a short walk back to the bikes, and Posh gives a grin, sending the information and the data upload Imaki gives her to the client. «Well, Omens, Nubia. Great job. And great riding with you guys again»

Commlink-Jett> Blackheart sends, « That makes a lot of sense, Sticks.. They really are just gangs, aren't they? »
