GM: Lake
Players: Tycho, Copper
Synopsis:The runners get word of a strange occurrence causing headaches, memory loss, and computer malfunction on a street block primarily owned by the Johnson. They find out the cause is a strange creature an otaku tribe is using to power their super computer by draining its essence slowly.
Date: Jan 5, 2073

«Plot» Lake says, "Alright, First off I'm going to need the obligatory consent, for I'm not here to kill you or do things to harm your characters. I'm here to provide a story as the dice see fit."
«Plot» Tycho consesnts.
«Plot» Copper says, "Consent given."
«OOC» Tycho feels its important to note that poepel are consented to thier own stupidity regardless."you dont need to ask for it.":P
«OOC» Lake says, "Alright, I think to keep things rolling I'm going to give a short post about the meet describing where it is what the J looks like and so on. The Q&A will be considered on plot channel. This helps speed things up and get us to the actual run since I've had a lot of runs end up unfinished due to long meets XD"
«OOC» Tycho salutes.

As night fall comes to the mile high city, jobs to us shadowfolk start to increase in number. The street only begins to come to life after sundown for some and this is when most of the money is made. From a phone call, trixmail, or a contact dropping a line somehow the runners get a message passed to them about an odd disturbance located in the CAS sector and a guy would like to talk to them about it. They get note that he's the ork guy out on 6th stuffing his face with a REAL salami sandwich. The diner is his of course, why would a Johnson ever meet someone out of his own turf?

The diner is an old 1950's Retro diner with a chrome plated counter polished nicely, with shiny condiment stands and the typical red and gold mustard/ketchup bottles. Black and white checkered squares decorate the walls about halfway up, meeting a beige colored flat wall with black and white pictures hanging to show the opening of the diner, and other sorts of interesting headlines. The inside smells of chicken fried soycubes and soy gravy enough to make the common person's mouth water with delight. The jukebox in the corner blasts out some rare classical music that are probably only owned by this diner alone. Some of the patrons include a human male sitting over at the bar with an obvious cyberarm, a night one near him hovering over a plate of soy biscuits and gravy, and an ork sitting in one of the booths chomping down on a large stuffed salami and onion sandwich (with a small elf male nearby tapping away on a poc-sec). The lady taking orders is a dark skinned ork rather small for her race holding onto a clear touchpanel screen for placing orders and sending them back to the terminal where the troll chef can be seen peeking up at the orders that come across the screen.

«OOC» Lake says, "Feel free to pose an intro then we can get the meet on the road."

Tycho steps intot eh diner and stands up to his full height, bumping his head on the ceiling and recioling a bit as the ork looks around. It dosent take long to notices the ork and his sandwhich, its distinctive and there are not many poepel here. Givign a nod to teh waitress that eh dosent need to be seated he wanders over to the ork and elf pair and plops down across from them and picks up the menu.

Copper arrives by motorcycle and heads in, taking note of the elves. She seems rather at ease as she plops down in the booth with the others. She's rather quiet except for ordering a real roast beef and ham sandwich with extra mustard. Best J ever.

After offering the food the Ork smiles, "Don't worry about anyone here, they all work for me in someway or another. So first thing is first, I must say some places I own have been having… troubles I guess you could say. Recently computers have started to scramble on this city block. At first I thought it was just some faulty progamming, but a search revealed that wasn't the case. I tried to shift us over to our own private grid, and that helped for a while, but started to eventually slip back into it's faults. But that's not the only thing, people near the area have started to show headaches towards the 4th street side of the block, often forgetting what they were doing. Currently we don't have any awakened to help us find magic, and it would be good if we had someone that knew a thing or two about medicine to check up on these people. This," he points to the little elf guy next to him, who promptly waves, "Is Loi, he's a decker and he can try to help you out if you decide you need help for anything. You can have him listen in on the comms and if you need help he can help out. Though his services will cost you 5K each, which can be taken out of the 20K each for the job." He leans in sliding a datachip holding the information he mentioned just in case they forget anything "Any questions?"

«Plot» Tycho says, "can we hite Loi later if he is needed?"
«Plot» Lake says, "Yes he's available on comms/call and if you decide to use him the price will be deducted from your pay."
«Plot» Tycho says, "anyone died/gone mising?"
«Plot» Lake says, "So far there have been no deaths, someone went missing for two days but returned back with no memory of what happened while they were away."
«Plot» Tycho says, "are those the only symptoms, memory loss and headaches?"
«Plot» Copper says, "Has the J had any recent troubles with anyone that might know how to screw with computers?"
«Plot» Lake says, "So far, the memory loss is always short term, within a few hours or so, or a few days. It seems to hit randomly as well, but it all seems to only be in the buildings lining the 4th street side of the block."
«Plot» Tycho says, "what abotu the opposite side of the street? dont know/dont care?"
«Plot» Lake says, "And no he hasn't really had any trouble with anyone except his competitors, but he doubts they are capable of anything like this."
«Plot» Lake says, "The opposide side of the street are simple mom & pop style businesses, a lot of locally owned things, A laundromat, An antique mall, Coffee Shop, Hardware store, and a Pawn Shop."
«Plot» Tycho says, "but no reported memory loss from them."
«Plot» Lake says, "He doesn't have an answer for that"
«Plot» Lake says, "He only has answers governing his own businesses"
«Plot» Copper says, "Is he fine with us questioning the people on the business streets? Or should we keep the whole thing hush hush?"
«Plot» Lake says, "He's fine if you ask, just don't attract attention towards his business in doing so."
«Plot» Tycho says, "how long has this been going on?"
«Plot» Lake says, "The computers first acted up around a month ago, after the repair it only started acting up within the past Week and a half."
«Plot» Copper says, "Is there anything very important to him (he doesn't have to specify what it actually is) on fourth street?"
«Plot» Tycho says, "did they stop havign cases of memory loss when they switched systems?"
«Plot» Lake says, "Not really (to copper)"
«Plot» Lake says, "They started having cases of memory loss about a week after the signs of the data messing up on the new systems."
«Plot» Tycho says, "where are his servers located on the street?"
«Plot» Lake says, "The Ork gives the group a set of keys belonging to his different businesses, four of which involve electronics and computers, One is a Pawn shop, the other is a Title Loan place, and finally a key for the offices above the main computer store where the server is located that hosts all his businesses. "Each computer sends information to that one for accounting information and so on, We've been wary about accessing it since it may be compromised with the malicious programs or whatever may be messing with our servers.""

Tycho picks up the keys and tosses them once and catches them again. Turning to the newly aquired mage cofort he says in his smooth synthetic monotone,"Lets go have a look. This seems like a fine way to spend a afternoon, 20k is a bonus."

Copper obtains a to-go box for the leftover half of her sandwich before joining the other runner. "This sandwich is probably worth the payout." She replies as they head out of the building. Mounting her motorcycle, the oni gives the mecha-ork a once over. "You need a ride, omae? Or do you have your own car?"
«OOC» Lake says, "When ready let me know where you guys decide to go first and we can timeskip to there."

"I have a rac, but it dosent look like we'll be out of walking distance. And its a nice day out." Mecha ork responds heading for the door.

«OOC» Tycho wants to see the servers first.
«OOC» Lake says, "It's about 7 blocks away Two blocks from 6th street then 5 blocks back towards the main part of town."
«OOC» Tycho says, "ah, i thought all his buisnesses where next to eachother."
«OOC» Lake says, "It's about a 18-20 minute walk or so which still isn't bad. And it's just starting into the latter part of the evening, so between 7-8 pm. Most shops close around 8-9pm so you'd have time to ask the closing shift questions."
«OOC» Lake says, "I think right now the pawn shop and title loan place will be the only places closed."
«OOC» Copper says, "Okay. Tycho, what do you think? Question people real quick before they close, then hit the server?"
«OOC» Tycho says, "well, its ceal that the point of oragin of all of this is the server room. lets look at that first, they dont have a mage so it coudl be glaringly obvious to you."
«Plot» Lake says, "Also the layout of the places, The Pawn shop, A computer store, and an Electronics store are located on 4th street, The Title loan is on the avenue between 4th and 3rd, The computer hardware supply store is on 3rd and the computer repair store is on the opposite avenue from the title loan."
«OOC» Lake says, "And the comptuer hardware store is the location of the Server"
«OOC» Copper says, "Okay, server room first."

It doesn't take long to make it from the Diner to the block in question. The store is lit up still with the lighted sign out front reading "Bits 'n' Bytes" The upstairs to the store is lit up in sporadic locations showing that there are still a few workers in the offices probably cranking out the last of the night. The store below is rather packed with short aisles, all having signs to designate the location of items. From programs, to interfaces, to input and output devices the store had everything to make your terminal as custom as it could be. They even had a custom built terminal made from things in the store to show the raw power someone could put behind a terminal. Currently the workers seem to be a bit more stressed than average workers, and it's understood with the information the runners have so far. Occasionally the check out line clerks grumble things out about the chip reader not working for paying with credsticks, and apologize to the customers for the inconvienence. Along the lines are signs stating the issue with credstick readers at the moment, and if they can't make a purchase they should try back tomorrow until the issue is resolved.

Copper will ride her motorcycle there, letting Tycho have a ride if he wanted one, or just zipping along alone. She finds a convenient parking space nearby and heads inside. After a bit of fake perusing the oni approaches a wandering shopworker. "Hey omae. Can I talk to your manager?"
Tycho slides into the store and walks up and down the eilse trying not to disturbe to much with he metal juggernaught form. the borg is looking for somethign that might be causeing this, as well as any good discount trids.
[Magic] Ben says, "This char is mundane."
[Magic] Ben says, "I wondered, because Simon is retiring or has retired."

The shopkeeper nods and runs off to get a manager, after a few moments a large troll steps up to the Ork. He's dressed in a nice red long sleeved dress shirt with the store's logo printed on the pocket. "I heard you were on your way to try and find out what the problem is with our systems, and the health problems over on 4th street." He speaks quite smoothly despite his tusks and offers to lead them to the door leading upstairs. "I hope you can figure out what's going on, most of our employees are on edge with the problem and we've already had one quit." he stops at the door "He said you have the key, only people involved with the office work are allowed to go beyond the door, so I must head back to work now."

Before the troll moves to leav tycho puts a hand on his shoulder to stop him,"I heard that some employees were experianceing a headache, anyone like that right now i could look at?" He asks in his smooth mechanical voice.

Copper nods. "We will figure it out. Do not worry." Compared to the troll's rather smooth way of talking, the oni's own speech may sound a little slower-paced. While Tycho has the man stopped she'll squint a bit and assense his aura.

«Plot» Copper says, "Any background count that would make the TN higher?"

The troll shakes his head "The people affected by that all work over at "The Computer Chip", "4th Street Pawn", and "Wired" on 4th street. It doesn't seem to have any effect beyond that.

«Plot» Lake says, "No"

You paged Copper with 'He's in good health, he has a MathSPU built into his head, He's a bit afraid of what's going on, He's not magical.'.

Tycho releases he hold on the man's shoulder and gives him the slight nod saying he can go before turnign wordlessly to tthe other ork and pointing his thumb up the stars before begingin his assent towards teh server.

Copper blinks a few times to bring her vision back to the mundane world. She nods to the ork-borg and turns, heading to the upstairs room. Once they're there she'll hold her hand out for the keys.

The offices are a set of cubicles spread across the main floor and a few doors lining the back wall. It's not very high quality but it's what could fit in the small upstairs. There's a few people still in the cubicles upstairs starting to pack up to head home for the night. The back four offices lead to higher authority figures, and one door leads off to the main server block.

Tycho looks over at teh smaller ork,"Well, see if anything magical is goign on and then we'll head out to find a person with a headache." The ork then begins to wander aroudn the office, silently takign a mental invetory of the place.

Copper's eyes flicker back to the astral. "Shh. Checking." The oni scans the room and gives it a few minutes for impressions to settle. Soon after that, she will approach the door to the server block, checking it as well.

You paged Copper with 'You notice faint traces of magic towards the south side of the room (4th street side), though it's not typical magic from mage or shaman but spirit like. It's impossible to tell what it is due to how faint the signature is though.'.

Copper tells Tycho quietly, "Something weird on the south wall." She heads closer, trying to keep her movements casual to keep the workers from being alarmed.

Copper adds, "Some kind of aura related to spirits."

Tycho heads that way to0. When he gets there, reaching out and touching the wall feelign ot for irregularities.

«Plot» Copper says, "Moving closer to the south wall to get a better read on things!"

«OOC» Lake says, "The wall doesn't appear weird on the mundane."

You paged Copper with 'How close do you get?'.

"I got nuthin'." Tycho explains,"Think maybe ther eis somethign behind it?"

Copper pages: Five feet away.

You paged Copper with 'As you get closer nothing much changes about the aura, only that some sort of awakened critter is generating it.'

Copper shrugs, "Could be.. hm. Careful." She's five feet away from the wall when she says that. Her eyes sweep back across the room, checking to see if any employees are left.

«OOC» Copper says, "Headcount of the workers?"

«OOC» Lake says, "Four in cubicles, 2 in seperate offices."

Copper looks back to the wall, slowlly raising a hand to touch it. "Some kind of awakened critter is fragging with it, that is for sure."

«Plot» Tycho says, "wahts teh wall made out of? brick?"
«OOC» Lake says, "Yeah."

Tycho makes a quick motion with his hand and is suddenly holding a rather long, knive. the razor thin dimond coated implement is tapped on the wall and the Cyborg asks,"Here?"

Copper's eyes don't seem to register the knife for the first few moments. Just an extension of the black blob that is the cyborg's hand. Confused, she switches back to mundane vision, and instantly lets out a little gasp. "Frag!" She cusses quietly. "Put that drek away. Wait 'til da employees are gone, at least!" The oni urges, still quiet. Her precise, slow speech degenerates into the typical ork jargen when stressed.

Tycho shrugs a bit and then makes the knife disappear with another impossibly fast motion of his wrist."Its fine. Where on teh wall are we talkign though," he continues in his smooth mechancial vioce,"maybe makr it in ink?" the ork takes a step and finds a fat felt tip marker in a unattended desk.

You paged Copper with 'There's not a spot where it's any more intense than the other.'.

Copper lets out a relieved sigh. While Tycho finds a marker she examines the wall, trying to find a specific point where it's most intense. "It is all over the wall. Actually, I want to look at this from the outside in a minute." The oni turns, staring down at the marker before looking up at the mecha-ork's face. "Let us check the server room first, then we will look."

Tycho nods and opens the door to the server room for the female ork.

Copper steps in cautiously. Her eyes retune themselves to the astral.

You paged Copper with 'Nothing seems to be bothering the server room, but there's a few sparks occasionally from the machine, though it's possible that it's just electricity showing up on the astral.'.

"Sparks from the machine." The oni notes, stepping to the side to allow Tycho entrance. "Is it just electricity?"

Tycho follows in and looks over the machine referanced.

The server room is a rather warm room due to the heat from the computer going through processes. The machine is whirring loudly as it pushes on appearing like a normal machine so far. There is a jack point located on the machine probably for Loi to be able to connect directly to the machine to see it's problems.

«Plot» Tycho says, "but no visable sparks."

«Plot» Lake says, "No visible sparks!"

"I dont see what you talkin about." Tycho says movign intot eh room fully and looking aroudn double checking.

Copper hrms, shrugging. "Could just be electricity showing up on the astral." Her vision returns to normal and she begins searching the room carefully, paying special attention to the machine and even checking for possible wire shorts that would be plainly visible.

The pawn shop is a small broken down shop, definately not where the Johnson puts most of his time into. Inside around the floor are things such as lawnmowers and bikes that are brought in to help lower the chance of them being stolen. As they arrive the manager of the shop is just starting to leave, as he goes to lock the door he stops for a moment to lean against the door rubbing between his eyes. He returns to lock the door and starts to walk away before turning back to try and lock the door a second time.

Copper seems totally fine! Aw yeah. She approaches the pawn shop's owner, standing a few feet away so as not to seem threatening. "Sir? Can we get a word with you, please?"

«Plot-Page» (To: Tycho) Lake says, "The headache doesn't seem to fit within the qualities of a normal headache, It's similar to a migraine in pain, but it doesn't have the same symptoms of a migraine. Plus after a short while with the headache you start to get the feeling of walking into a room and forgetting why. Though it fades rather quickly."

Tycho pages: does the feeling of forgetfulness persist with the editor on?

You paged Tycho with 'Yeah it only negates the pain.'.

You paged Tycho with 'The feeling only lasts for about 3-10 seconds and it happens at a frequency of about 5-10 minutes or so'.

Tycho however isnt so fine, following after Copper the borg enters teh store and looks around, absently for a moment before walking over to the counter with copper. silently in the back of his mind he flips a switch and turns off his headache.

The ork locking up turns to Copper, "Oh who might you be?" he says lightly rubbing his head, "Sorry I think the pollution is causing headaches in this area or something, lots of people are getting them" he nods "Who might you be?"

Copper raises an eyebrow at the man. "I am Judy, and this is Frederick." She motions to her runner companion. "We are with health services and heard about your problem. Would you mind letting us check you out?"

«OOC» Copper says, "I want to assense him. Any TN penalties from the weirdness?"

«Plot-Page» (To: Copper) Lake says, "You notice that the guy is in good health, nothing seems to be wrong with him. He has no cyberware, and he's not awakened. He does seem to be having a magical force acting upon him possibly what is causing the headaches, but it doesn't seem directly related to health."

The guy shakes his head, "I don't mind," he turns to re-open the shop and looks over his shoulder "Who did you say you were again?" he says as the door clicks open to the shop.

Copper smiles, watching the lines of the man's aura while they converse. "We are your friends Judy and Frederick from the health department. Mister Frederick here is going to examine you so that we may hopefully pinpoint the cause of the headaches." She says it a little louder so Tycho can hear his assigned fake name again.

"Thats me, Dr. Fred. If you could just-" Tycho cuts off mid sentance and then he just stares at copper at a loss for words. "What was i doing?"

«OOC» Lake says, "I already told her the part about the headache/memory loss stuff."

The Ork nods and heads into the shop moving back to the office around all the equipment in the floor. He takes a seat and offers each of them a seat "I think it's about time someone came to examine us for this."

«OOC» Lake says, "Roll perceptions!"

Copper squints at the mecha-ork, sighing. Great. "You are examining this man to find the cause of the headaches." The oni ushers everyone into the pawn shop and closes the door behind them, flipping the little sign to say 'closed' if there is one.

All the sudden Copper asks, "What?"

You paged Tycho with 'Yeah that works better'.

Tycho stops suddenly."Whoa. freaky." the ork sits down and taps the side of his head a few times.

Copper looks at Tycho strangely. "Are you done with him?"

The ork rubs his head and looks to Tycho, "The headache is like nothing I've felt in my life, if it wasn't for working here, I wouldn't come back here if-" he gets cut off by Tycho abruptly stopping.

"No, my eye display just bugged out. ill tell you later, totally weird. What were you sayin'?" The ork stands back up ignoring the crypti messages floatign in the middle of his vision for the moment.

Copper nods, moving to sit in one of the chairs. "Right. Sir, please continue?" The oni glances back to the office door for a moment, then looks at the ork shop owner.

The ork shrugs, "The headache is just weird, it makes no sense, I've never had them before but suddenly it's every day I'm out here. They get progressively worse through the day, and they fade quickly after getting a few blocks away."

«OOC» Copper says, "Keeping watch on his aura in case it does weird things!"

«Plot-Page» (To: Tycho) Lake says, "So far it seems to be the same symptoms you were showing, just slightly worse."

«Plot-Page» (To: Tycho) Lake says, "So far the guy seems to be showing the same issues that your self-diagnosis shows. Nothing changes physically, and by what he says it appears to be unlike any normal causes for headaches."

Tycho spends a few moments more examing the ork before patting him on the back."Okay, thats jsut about all the info im going to get here, and about all i think im gunna get. Thansk for your help." The metal ork turns to his mystic counterpart adn says,"If you dont have any- wow… weird."

The guy nods and rubs his head a little "Thanks for stopping by.. Who did you say you were again?" he says as he starts to stand up and shake the ork's hand.

"i'm…" Tycho looks to copper while still shaking the orks hand. the pair seem to genuinly be at a loss for whats going on. Abruptly tycho lets go of the hand and taps the side of his head,"That's just wild."

Copper rolls her eyes and sounds a little frustrated as she repeats for the third time, "Judy and Frederick, sir." She stands and takes a few steps towards the door, waiting for the mechanical ork to follow. "It seems the confusion is indiscriminate. Sir, we must depart, but we thank you for your time. You will be hearing from us soon."

The guy nods and starts to head to the door, ushering them out to the streets. He turns to lock the door checking it a few times before nodding to the two "I hope you find out what the cause is to this whole thing."

Tycho folows doggedly after copper, not afraid to tag along after the person who seems to know whats going on. After he is sure the ork shopkeep is out of earshot he says,"I am really sure my name is not fredrick."

Copper assures the man, "No, it is definitely not. But it does not hurt to have a cover." Her eyes linger on the pawn shop before she turns around, heading back to the building with the server. "What was weird earlier?"

«Plot» Copper says, "I want to go check the outside portion of the wall that had a magic signature"

"I wrote help me on my eye display, i guess, or something did. dont remeber doing it." Tycho taps the side of his head."Very weird. But i think thats what i was talking about i guess? memory loss sucks."

«Plot-Page» (To: Copper) Lake says, "You notice that the wall is just on the boundry line of a signature aura. As if it's just on the edge of a bubble of magical power. The aura grows brighter as it reaches closer to 4th street, but standing within the aura and not having anything to compare it to made it hard to notice on 4th street. The effect is confusion and it seems to fade in and out, probably the cause of headaches and memory loss. The center of the effect distant somewhere on the block across the street from 4th street."

Copper gawks up at the wall and concentrates. The oni mutters, "Tricky bastard." Her eyes follow something in the air, going towards the block across from 4th street. They snap back to the mecha-ork's aura and squint. "Drek's coming from across the street. I am going to follow the aura, but it may be dangerous to be blind to the mundane. You keep watch. Got it, omae?"

"For what?" Tycho says looking up and down the street.

Copper explains quietly, "Cars, people with guns, drek like that." She motions for him to follow while she heads towards the aura. "I am going to be busy looking at this. If I am seeing it right, some creature is using its power to mess with the whole block."

«OOC» Copper says, "Oh yeah! I've got a Paranormal Animals knowskill, can I roll that to think of what critters use confusion?"

"Knew it was astral drek." Tycho says walking after the smaller ork pounding one fist in the other, and keeping a eye out like asked.

«OOC» Lake says, "Well the list is rather extensive if I recall correctly, so I'm not going to list every critter, but I'll say it helps lower paranormal animals tests later should you happen to encounter a creature with confusion."

«OOC» Lake says, "Since you'll have a catalog of what critters have that power it'll be easier to narrow down what a specific creature is if you run into it. (e.g. If only two canines can cause confusion and later you run into a canine you'll have a higher chance since you know only two canines are on that list.)"

«Auto-Judge[]» Copper (#10649) rolls Paranormal Animals:

«Plot-Page» (To: Copper) Lake says, "Alright good enough, I'll make a note for a +1 to future paranormal animals test regarding critters with confusion."

Copper keeps her eyes mainly focused on the astral signature, trying to follow it as best she could. "Fraggin' weird. I do not know what a magic critter would want out here."

"Maybe it eats trogs." Tycho says following close behind copper.

"Drek, I hope not." Copper scowls.

"Would be easy to find though." Tycho points out.

Following the aura leads to the Laundry across the street, while automated it's not a 24 hour store. The door leading inside is locked with a typical security keypad maglock. The windows show a wide open view of the floor, tons of automated industrial sized wash machines and dryers, and a few lower to the ground for dwarven users. The back is a rack set for rotating clothes around for dry cleaning.

«Plot» Tycho says, "do the keys we have work?"

The cheap lock is easy to pick the covering off to expose the inner wirings, and by the inside it's very simple. So simple that it only took a simple click of two wires together to patch the connection to release the lock. The door opens with ease.

Copper stops a couple feet in front of the door and peers inside. "Ten nuyen says the back is full of bones." She squints at the inside of the building.

«OOC» Copper says, "What does the place look like on the astral?"

«Plot-Page» (To: Copper) Lake says, "The astral signature doesn't belong to anything specifically in the shop, however it does seem to intensify towards the employees section in the back."

"Sucker bet, you are so on." Tycho says steping into the laundramat and moving carefully through the rows of machines."Stay nearby." He adds taking out a knife from his backpack before replacing it.

Copper moves very slowly through the shop, taking a careful look at everything. At one point she bumps her knee on one of the dwarf washing machines. "Fragging drek." She realizes something and looks back at the mecha-ork, "We should take out the cameras when we are done."

The employees door is a swinging door that leads to the back. The back is a huge store room for all the detergents and accessories for the washing. There's a large vat for a chemical solvent for the drycleaning process. They also notice a large wooden crate that seems out of place compared to the rest of the room.

«Plot» Lake says, "Both shake off the effects of memory loss and what not."

"No bones. payup." Tycho says holding out a big metal palm the instant they enter the room.

"We have not searched the whole room yet." Copper disputes. She sticks a hand in her coat pocket, making sure there's some scrip, just in case.

The inside of the box doesn't seem to show like a normal box, instead a black haze that doesn't seem to change no matter how much light hits it at a given time. Tycho has a strength of 17 in each arm and an overall average strength of 12.

«OOC» Tycho says, "cyber arms and hardliner gloves add 4. i punch it for 21Ds."

«OOC» Tycho is slow but gets teh job done :)

«Auto-Judge[]» Lake (#8403) rolls 4 vs TN 19 for "2 natural armor of the critter, Good luck little buddy!":
2 3 4 7 = 0 Successes

The Box's life was shortlived, splinters fly out from the critter as it takes a huge punch from the walking mech. It becomes nothing but a few planks of wood remaining on the ground.

«OOC» Copper says, "Combat over?"
«OOC» Lake says, "Yep"

Tycho's earthshatering blow, leaves the ork in a position with both arms up infornt of him. As he moves back to his normal standing position there is a decompressing sound, and a small bit of steam rolls off his form. Then Another mentalic winding niose as tycho reaches down to pick up his knife."so. no bones. payup." He says in his smooth synthetic monotone.

Copper is reaching back into her rucksack for something when the box completely explodes. Damn! "Well drek.." She rolls her shoulders a bit, forcing the bag around to her side. Her right hand dips down into her pocket and retrieves some CAS scrip to hold out to Tycho. Once he's taken it she rummages through her rucksack to retrieve her crossbow. She also gets a fist full of six bolts.

«OOC» Lake says, "Alright, to the stairs?"
«OOC» Copper says, "Yep!"
«OOC» Copper says, "Tycho, you still going first?"

Tycho pockets teh script and wordlessly moves to the stairs peering down without actualyl walkign down."So, any idea what that was?"

«OOC» Tycho wants to consult the oracle first.

«Auto-Judge[]» Copper (#10649) rolls Paranormal Animals for "What was that thing?":
2 3 5

The stairs lead down, quite a long ways. As they travel down the stairs it grows colder, quite a few degrees less than the surfaces temperature. At the bottom of the stairs is a set of elevator doors mounted into the polished stone walls. Windows on the doors show that the elevator isn't called to the current floor, and judging by the button it only leads further down.

«Plot-Page» (To: Copper) Lake says, "It's basically a materialized wood spirit. It's very low powered, and it's manifested as a physical entity to keep a watch over the stairwell."

«Plot» Tycho says, "any more boxes?"

«Plot» Lake says, "No more boxes."

"That was some sort of wood spirit. It was likely there to guard the stairwell, but I am not sure why someone would use something like that. It was pretty weak." The oni readjusts her rucksack and heads down the stairs first. She loads the first bolt into the crossbow, placing the other five so that they stick out of the very top of the rucksack. It's zipped in such a way that it holds them together in a bundle.

«Plot» Copper says, "The notes in my voucher say that the heavy crossbow does 8S, but it has been corrected to do 6S. Also noting that I have one loaded bolt and five ready for reload before I have to dig in my pack for more."

"so it was a gaurd then. fun."Tycho says heading cautiously down the stairs."Can you get some of that counter mojo going? or are you not that kinda witch?" the full borg says withotu looking behind him as he decsendes the stairs.

«Plot» Copper says, "Alocating four spell pool dice for spell defense."
«Plot» Lake says, "Alright."

Copper bows her head for a moment and mutters some gobbledeegook in German before flicking the wrist of her left hand out. There's a bit of ash that seems to come from nowhere, swirling in the air and then hovering above them, almost invisible in the dark lighting. "It is done. You should be safe." There's another little hand flourish from the orange ork. She heads towards the elevator and presses the call button.

It takes a few minutes for the elevator to reach the floor and the doors to open. The elevator is rather large with doors across the way as well. The lighting in the elevator is quite dim barely lighting the entire small room. There's only two buttons for floors on the panel, an arrow pointing up and an arrow pointing down.

"You want to stand back-to-back? Might be safer." Copper says after noticing the door on the other side.

"Ominous." Tycho says checkign the inside of the elevator before pressign any buttons."So. what kind of person would hav ea secret elevator under a laundramat and have a spirit out front thats too weak to defend it but just strong enough to kill random poeple?" tycho asks rehtoricly.

«Plot» Tycho says, " is there a ceiling panel?"

«OOC» Lake says, "Like to access the roof of the elevator?"

«OOC» Tycho says, "yep"

«OOC» Lake says, "Yeah there's an access panel to the left of the door you came in."

«OOC» Tycho says, "inside the elevator or inside the basement?"

«OOC» Lake says, "Inside the elevator."

Copper leans against one of the walls and looks at the door opposite of the one they stepped through. "Some crazy fragger. Maybe a wizkid?"

«OOC» Copper says, "I want to check out the up/down button panel to make sure it's still functional."
«OOC» Copper says, "Without pressing anything!"
«Plot» Lake says, "It's lit up like a normal elevator panel."

Tycho presses up on the access panel to see if he can get it to pop off."Maybe we dont have to stand in the line of fire. Yeah i would normally be betting on crazy, but and this is a big but." Tycho does a pullup to investigate the roof of the elevator. The fullborg finishes his sentance when he comes back down,"Elevators are expensive."

The elevator chute is rather narrow being that this is the only elevator providing access to this shaft.

«Plot» Tycho says, "any wild life up there? cobwebs? or is it used frequently?"

Copper peeks up into the open panel while Tycho is up there. She'll step back when he comes down. "Maybe a new brainwashing technique? One of the corporations could be trying to harness the power of a creature. Maybe everyone on fourth street is being used as test subjects?"

«Plot» Lake says, "It's used pretty frequently."

"Okay. thats gettign a little conspiacy theory for my taste. Certianly weird." The ork looks aroudn and then asks the importnat question,"So. is the box what was causing the auras you looked at or are we obligated to poke our noses firther into more dangerous territory?"

«Plot-Page» (To: Copper) Lake says, "The signature still exists."

Copper frowns, "Whatever. The box definitely was not the signature I was picking up earlier." She steps around the mecha-ork and motions for him to give her some room. When he's out of the way she'll jump and pull herself up into the access shaft, taking a look around on the astral for the aura they'd been following.

«Auto-Judge[]» Copper (#10649) rolls Intelligence vs TN 4:
1 2 3 3 4 7 = 2 Successes

«Auto-Judge[]» Copper (#10649) rolls Aura Reading vs TN 4:
1 2 4 5 7 = 3 Successes

«Plot-Page» (To: Copper) Lake says, "The aura signature is deep down, probably where the elevator leads to, It's still hard to tell what it is from this distance, and you get the feeling it might be impossible to know what it is for sure until you see it."

"It is waaaay down there." The oni had temporarily stuffed her crossbow in the pack. After crawling on top of the elevator she peeks down. "Press the button and get up here?"

Tycho does just that."Well. i've done stupider drek." He says as he climbs ontop of the decending elevator and replaces the panel.

Copper hunkers down so that she won't hit the moving cable or the walls. "Maybe leave it slightly askew? I can toss a cloud of smoke down there, should anything step in."

"Not a bad idea." Tycho says, leaving a fingers breadth on the edge of the panel open before sitting upa dn pulling his FFBA hood over his head and issueing the mental command to his ruthenium. Then the shirt and pants come off and are put in the coated backpak.

As the elevator descends creaks and pops come from the elevators mechanism, it's not the greatest of elevators but it holds steady. As it reaches towards the bottom of it's path the sound of machinery echoes a humming from beyond the wall opposite of the access panel. The elevator comes to a rest and the sound of the doors swinging open signal it's resting stop. After a few moments the doors swing back closed meaning that no one seems to have noticed the elevator if anyone is around.

«Plot» Copper says, "Peeking in on the astral for signs of life!"

«Auto-Judge[]» Copper (#10649) puts on her "Mortimer: Greatcoat Line"<=Carried Gear (#7836, Item 1).

«Plot-Page» (To: Copper) Lake says, "Through the walls you are able to notice a few life forms walking around a multiple layered room. They are mostly human with a few orks around. The center of the room is a large circular mass that glows brightly, definately the cause of the confusion aura happening above. And it's evident that it has quite a lot of magical energy, though now that you can get a closer look you notice that whatever it is, it's in terrible condition almost as if it's dying. Could it be that whatever it's doing is a call for help in some way or another?"

Copper buttons her mortimer coat and adjusts it so that it covers more of her body. She looks around, and all the sudden her features crumple a bit. She looks.. sad?

"ooh. thats bad." Tycho says watchign the ork's facial expression. Cautiously he mves the panel and looks at the small elevator room below, double checking that its empty before lowering himself in.

«OOC» Lake says, "Yep it's empty"
«OOC» Lake says, "And the door is closed"

"Multiple metahuman lifesigns and a big.. thing. It is the source, but there is something quite wrong with it. Like it is weakening." Copper's expression shifts back to neutral. "No one near-by though." She will climb down after the ork and pull out her loaded crossbow.

Tycho presses the button to open the door, boldly so if possible.

The door opens up to a narrow hallway, offset from the rest of the main part of a central room. At the path continues it opens to a large central chamber similar to a missile silo. A metal walkway circles around the entire room each floor with two sets of stairs that lead to the circle above it, for a total of 4 floors. Each floor has a series of rooms off from it, but that's not the main focus of the room. The main focus is the central tank within the center of the room leading from the floor to ceiling, tubes connecting from the ceiling down into the tank. The tank glows with light and sitting in the middle is a large squidlike figure each of it's 8 arms run through special ports in the tank out to machinery on each of the floors. Each arm has a set of microwires that run up towards it just barely seen under the skin. It's two longer tentacles hang low in the tank bound together by some sort of special band that almost seems like a set of hand cuffs to prevent the use of the two longer appendages.

Tycho presses the up button.

Pushing the up button seems to yield no sort of response from the elevator. The only response the elevator recieves is the light blacking out.

Copper's eyes widen. She's taking a step forwards as Tycho hits the button. "Holy frag, is that what I-" Her eyes raise to the light. "Aw frag."

"Welp." Tycho says trying the button once more. "Time to punch out cuthulu."

Copper gives Tycho a sidelong glance. "Punch it out? What if all of the metahumans are trying to use it, like I said earlier?"

"50 yen says its a mind control squid." tycho shoots back before leaning out the elevator to check that no one is coming thier way.

Suddenly a knife comes from nowhere and collides with the man's chest knocking him back just enough for the second knife to slice into his head, knocking him to the ground. Blood seeps through the holes in the metal walkway dripping to the floor below.

The air splits, revealing the ghostly white form of a horned man riding a horse. The blood soaking it slowly turns white before the figure completely fades.

By now the room is almost comepletely red, and a door from the top floor opens and 6 kids around 10-12 years of age step out looking over the rail. They are all bald and deeply pale, and the "leader" of them calls out to the one henchman that's still alive "Cease Fire, You fraggers you don't know how to hit drek and look what you've fraggin done." The guy starts to hold his fire just as a spell slices into him once more. "You there, I can't see you from where you are at, but what the frag are you doing here? You have no reason to just come down here and shoot up someones home computer what chummer sent you?"

"Privleged info!" Tycho yells back, taking this opertunity to recover some of his lost knives."What are you doing with a gian squid adn shoot at us?!"

Copper drops her concentration on the spell and rather suddenly re-appears, slouched against the wall and looking a bit fatigued. "Computer?" The oni looks from the children to the squid and back. "It is in pain! Whatever you have done, it is sapping away the creature's life force!"

The little kid calls back in a smartass tone "Privileged info! After all I guess it looks like we are in the same boat. Though you are getting paid for coming here and killing our super processor. Besides it's totally rightful for us to open fire on intruders to our home."

«Plot-Page» (To: Copper) Lake says, "You notice that the squid's container has been cracked and blood is seeping out of the squid into the emersion tank."

"Nope! not gettign paid. Just gettign shot at." Tycho yells back moving to get mroe knives."Tried to take the elevator back up but it turned off and someen started shooting."

Copper straightens herself and starts walking towards the tank with the crossbow slung over her shoulder. "He is bleeding.." She mutters before looking up at the children. Her eyes squint a bit as she tries to assense the leader.

"Shouldn't have taken the elevator in the first place?" he chuckles, "I guess if these idiots couldn't shoot you up there's no use in trying. You've already blown our computer up so I guess it doesn't matter any more, take your fragging leave. And dying? what do you think they are meant for, their essence sure works well powering computers and yes it's more efficient than some things out there now."

Copper scowls up at the children. "No sympathy for someone withering away just like you are, child? No empathy left in your bitter soul?" Her tone is calm yet sad. For a brief moment she looks back at the squid in the tank, taking note of his size, possibly planning something.

"Shatter the glass, posion it with seditives." Tycho says turnign around."Like putting a bige semi-sapient dog down."

Copper looks worried. "Will that really end him peacefully?"

Tycho shrugs and turns and shatters the glass, bracing himself for the oncoming onslaught of water.

At that moment Copper realises that she's pretty damn closs to the glass. Frag! Tycho may be able to resist the blast, but she's not so confident, turning to run for the stairs.
«OOC» Lake says, "Since it's closing in on the end of the run, and I know you'll be able to break the glass just fine I'll hand wave the roll for it."

«OOC» Lake says, "And the creature is unable to move so you won't have to roll for hitting it with the spear either"
«OOC» Tycho is just breaking the glass with eh spear.
«OOC» Tycho says, "after that im going to punch it with gamma scope."
«OOC» Lake says, "Ah"

«OOC» Tycho says, "its a stupid powerfull seditive. combined with my punch it should knock it out. then im hopeing it will soufficate before it recovers consusness."
«OOC» Tycho says, "it seems to be on its last legs anyway."

The otaku look to the group and sighs "Well go off and reactivate the elevator to this place before it completely dies off… Just leave us down here we won't make it out in the world up there" they say heading off into the room without allowing the time for a response. After a few minutes the light to the elevator clicks back on.

Its a up hill battel agaisnt the onrush of water after the prototype spear cracks the surface o fhte tank but tycho manages to land a mighty glow on the surface of the squid. A fraction of a second later medicine i are pumped into the tenerized skin at the impact. Still maintining a death grip on his weaposn tycho lets himself be washed back to the stairs and begins to climb up out of the water as the room drains.

«Auto-Judge[]» Tycho (#3968) uses 2 of item 6: Gamma-scopolamine from Backpack (#7267).

«Plot» Lake says, "Alright returning back to the surface is a long trip through all the stairs and elevator and so on. Back out to the diner where the Johnson hasn't left waiting on the return. Loi was surprised that it wasn't needed, but he asks if everything went well."
«Plot» Tycho will only explain that it worked out.
«Plot» Copper says, "Yeah, there shouldn't be any more headaches."
«Plot» Tycho will also treat copper's light wound so it dosent require healing or magic.
«Plot» Lake says, "He offers the payment through credsticks of 20K each, and gives a tip of the ha as well as a second offer of food as he is chomping away on another giant salami sandwich."
