It has been a while since Adam had a chance to talk with Selene. It so happens that he needs to trek into the Metaplanes and that just isnt something you go and do by yourself. It came across that he would like Selene to join him for the trip— and after setting a mutually acceptable time at night, the two slip into astral space and zip to the Threshold to meet the Dweller and head into the Metaplanes.

Standing there, in pitch darkness, the two of them float. They are the only things with form in this buffer zone between worlds. Adam's figure looks around a moment— waiting for something to talk to them so they can proceed forward. As expected, its just a matter of time before the Dweller makes himself known.

In the form of a small cat, the creature pads up to them— looking up and speaking with an unnatural voice, "Greetings travelers. You seek access, do you not? Well well then— lets see. Lets see." The creature starts pawing at the ground as it if was dirt. Cute, but a bit creepy.

Selene crosses her arms over her chest and watches the cat. This is always her least favorite part of getting to the astral plane, "Handsome feline, we have need of the wisdom that the plans can provide. Won't you please grant us access?" She tries flattery. It always works with cats.

The Dweller purrs after digging into the void of the ground. "Oh— very charming, very charming," replies the creature as it moves over to Selene and starts to rub against her shins. "I wonder, I wonder. Does that charm of yours have to do with your drug habits? I have something you need, so you try to charm me. You crafty little witch, you!" He seems to take a jovial stance on it. Adam says nothing as he knows that he is next. Sometimes that is worse.

When the cat is done with Selene it stares at Adam— who stares right back. The cat begins to lick his paws and rub behind his ears, "And you are no different." Yaaawn. Stretch. "Only your drug is simsense. Just as bad an addiction, no matter how you rationalize it. It's made you more isolated than she is— and shes been *gone* for months. Silly mage."

The cat then pads away, "Mmm. Very well. If spell plans are your plans— plan a spell plan." Before the two are ink and quill— and parchment.

<<Plot>> Adam is taking a Rating 5 AQ to learn Vehicle Mask.
<<Plot>> Selene says, "Selene is just along for the ride, maybe Adam will help her out one day."

Selene smiles and leans over to scratch the kitty behind the ears, "My dear Dweller, don't you know? I've conquered that little issue. It was nothing." Then she picks up the pen and paper, and starts to scrawl down a a quick sketch for a new spell.

Adam chuckles lightly and wishes he could say the same thing. He takes to his pen and begins to scrawl out in hermetic style algorithms for a spell design.

In a very unlike Selene move, her reflection steps out of the mirror and tries to physically attack her dopleganger. The 'real' woman quickly sidesteps, grabbing the reflection by her hair and shoving her bac through the mirror, with a kick to the rear of a spike heeled shoe for good measure.

Adam response back to Selene, "Daily." Then the mirror image jumps out of the wall and starts to charge Adam. "Whoa— I mean tomorrow. Right. Tomorrow. I will one up myself— tomorrow." No change. Worth a shot. The mirror-Adam pops out a hand blade and lunges at the real-Adam. Real-Adam parries the attack and thrusts the back of the fake's head into a wall. While down— he motions up to a stalagmite and breaks it from it's weak hold— crashing down on his double. "Phew," he says as he looks down to check in on Sel.

The mirror shatters as Selene's living reflection crashes into it, shattering the wall in a cascade of glittering multifaceted reflections of the two adventurers. "Sometimes, I hate myself. Good to be reminded, I guess." she comments as she dusts off her hands.

In the aftermath of crushing your duplicate, there is but a brief pause before someone else great them. Or something else rather. The Dweller is back! Ok, well a cat is back that looks just like the Dweller. It has a key attached to it's collar. Notably the wall where the other 'you' came from now has a door and a keyhole etched into it.

Selene crouches and taps her fingers on the ground to entice the cat forward, "here, kitty.. handsome kitty. kitty, kitty, kitty."

Adam chuckles as he hears Selene, "Oh don't be so 'hard' on yourself." He could do this all day. Looking down at the cat he walks over to take the key— to which the cat skampers away. "Huh. And usually I am good with animals." He tries something different— lowering himself and trying to coax the cat to him. No pussy magnet jokes today, he just wants the key.

After a small amount of coersion, the cats go to both Adam and Selene. Indeed they just want affection, food, and more affection. Easy to get the key now.

Adam slowly takes the key off of the cat— giving quite a gentle touch, "What, no pussy jokes?" humors the hermetic as he stands— looking at his key. He walks on over to the door to try it out.

Selene picks up the kitty, and as she scratches him gently under the chin, slips the key off of his collar at the same time. Gently holding the cat in her arms, she looses her grip enough to allow it to get away if it chooses, or stay and climb onto her shoulder, "thank you KittyCat. Would you like to come with me?"

Purr Purr. The cat would indeed like to come with Selene. It bats the air, and some of her hair.

Selene laughs and continues on, as soon as Adam looks ready. She reaches for the lock in the door with the key.

As the two Questors head through the door, there is another cavern. This one is made of Jade. Many statues adorn the hallway and it is more finely carved out, as if created unlike the previous room. The cats run away after the two enter— as the door slams shut behind them. Two of the statues turn towards the Questors as if thier base had a mechanism that allowed them to rotate. There is a high pitch in the room that gets more intense quickly.

Adam aws as the cat desides to go away— but turns his attention to the statues. "Great craftmanship," he says before his hands go over his ears. "Thats— a touch annoying," he says— looking for a source.

Selene quickly steps backwards from the statues, nearly tripping and falling on one of the cats in the process. "eek! kitty! Move!" She backs all the way to the closed door. Selene covers her ears with her hands. "what the heck is that?" referring to the noise, obviously.

The whining comes to fruition as the two statues harmonize a high beam of raw magical energy towards the respective Questors that they are pointing at. They are still on different mirror worlds— so they both get to see each other get blasted by the stream of energy.

Adam puts his hands from his ears across his body and throws up his Spell Defense— which works a little different in the Metaplanes. The beam ripples off of the shield— but not without tearing into it. When it is all said and done he is a little toasty— but still in good shape. The sound is gone. "You know, these places are not very friendly. Lower my guard with a kitten and then shoot me."

It would seem anything and everything is different in this plane. The blast of energy shoves Selene against the door, but remarkably bounces right back at the statue shattering it and blasting it to bits. The skinny young witch sags from the breath being knocked out of her, but is otherwise hale and whole.

As the two runners go to catch thier breath— there is a voice that speaks from within the room. It echos, making it hard to determine a source. "Provided that those statues follow the same rules in your realm— how was that vicious attack even possible?" she asks. An inquisition— a riddle— obviously a test that requires which answers, despite there being no immediately visible threat.

Adam looks towards the large golem and checks with Selene, "Uh— you brought something to fight with, right?" He pops out his cyber handblade and starts to maneuver around the slow creature.

Selene shakes her head at Adam, "have you EVER seen me hit someone? no? there's a reason for that!" she cries, and goes for.. hitting, yes, hitting the stone golum with her hands. Wacky, wacky girl.

Adam evades an incoming swing by the golem, "Well damn girl, dont get crushed," he says as he evades another blow. Then in a very epic fashion he leaps up— much like the Dragon Age: Origin scenes where you kill the big monsters— and stabs the creature right in the head. He goes down, riding the golem to the ground and stabbing him again for good measure.

This was just a bad plan, if the woman has a weakness it is her distaste for physical conflict. Blast it? yes. Manipulate it? yes. Suck information straight from it's brain with magic? yes. But hit it? ugh! Not her thing! Selene gives it a good go though, hitting the golumn in the head with a well placed fist, and then kicking it straight in the groin. "Take that!" she yells!

And the golem falls, ironically enough, writhing in stoney agony. Victory!

Adam looks past his dead golem to see what Selene did. It makes him cringe a lot, "I think its a good thing you don't resort to violence all of a sudden…"

Selene broke her hand, and shakes it out painfully, "uh. maybe I should have taken Pauly up on boxing lessons all those months."

Unfortuantely neither of the Questors have time to revel in thier victory. The door to the next room appears on the far end of the jade room. It opens— and in doing so, the entire room rumbles. It starts to fall apart, the floor behind them descending into an abyss. Time. To. RUN!

Selene clutches her hand to her chest and takes off running as fast as her little legs can carry her, and much more quickly than anyone should be running in heels!

Adam hauls ass. He runs for the other side of the room. Although he is not exactly a track star, be manages to keep from falling down into the abyss with a couple seconds to spare. The last step requires that leap of faith— heading into the unknown.

Selene just makes it to the other side as the last tile crumbles beneath her feet, she grabs with her good hand at the edge? the door? the darkness? and pulls herself through just in time.

When the door leap through the door— they are in front of a great library in some city. The windows are stained glass and there is a light on. It is the only place with a light on at all. This looks a lot like someplace a Citadel would be. Oh, and they are both together now, side by side.

Adam looks over towards Selene and asks, "How's your hand?"

Selene spreads the fingers and winces, "Its fine, I think.. probably." she shrugs and looks around, "Oh, this is much nicer than the palace of the seductress, quieter really." What a strange thing to say.

The happy ending is shattered when there is a splitting 'CAW' from above them. A large gargoyle crashes right in front of the entrance— spreading its large wingspan and screams at them, "CAWWWW!" Ok, looks like they are not quite over yet.

Selene frowns.

The gargoyle jumps down from atop of the stairs that lead to the great library and comes down fiercly towards Selene— sharp claws intimidatingly aiming to swipe something mean into the woman.
Selene licks her lips in anticipation, spirits are one of her forte's. She raises both hands and murmers a quiet ode to bat. Here in the planes, she doesn't just take on the ghostly mask of the totem, she becomes the totem and rises on black wings to meet the gargoyle with a loud batlike chitter. Electricity crackels in the room and flashes from the bat into the gargoyle as they crash in a tumble of wings and limbs.

The bat bowls over the gargole, sending it rolling backwards with her in a ball of furious wings. The image of the bat fades and Selenes form returns plunging her sharp nails straight into the chest of the stone beast and crushing it's heart in her hands.

With the gargoyle spasming a painful death— Adam notes, "Yes. Remind me not to get on your bad side." His eyes then turn towards the Library— half expecting it to morph into Cthulu and smack them with tentacles.

Selene sits on the stone beasts chest and wipes the slime from her hands on it's wings. She laughs, "You have no idea. So, have we found what you were seeking?"

Adam motions to the Library, "Only way way to know for sure." With that he makes his way up the stairs and towards the door to make sure this is the Citadel and not another test.

Selene hauls herself off the body of the gargoyle and follows, tiredly.

And it is, indeed, the Citadel. Once inside there is a vast library of books and spirits to help with researching up information. "Jackpot," Adam says— going through the aisles and pulling out a few tomes here and there to get some reference material for his spell, "Now I can make an Americar look like a Sabb." Good times.

Selene laughs, "all of this to turn your Ford into a chick magnent?"

Adam chuckles a bit and shakes his head. With three books he notes, "No its for the safety of a team during insertion and extraction segments. The spell can also reduce the lockable signature— or mimic a specific vehicle. The whole 'chick magnet' thing is a nice side effect of creative application of illusions." He finds a table to take a seat at and says, "Sides— don't really have time for that. But there are plenty of guys at bars that would pay me for a 'quick impress' service and I'm going to need to pool a lot of money soon before we lose the Fist." Oh yeah— maybe Adam hasn't mentioned that the Fist Full of Silver is going up for sale.

Selene tilts her head, "I need to move???"

Selene says "damnit. I don't want to move back into Orhpens place."

"No no. Its not for certain," Adam admits in a low voice, "but things dont look good. The Doc— Tanasen— he is moving on. He is putting the Fist up for sale, and all it's 'problems' in a short period of time. Sorry— I thought Nine told you already."

Selene sighs, "I haven't been paying much attention lately… just, had other things on my mind. So, what sort of problems has it had?"

Adam motions his metallic hand, "He wont tell us. He has his enemies— and from what I understand, they have it out for him in force right now. Doc is retiring to draw the fire away from the Fist— but there is no way of knowing if it will be safe even if he does that. And we have no intel on who 'they' are. The one person that knows refuses to inform us." He takes a deep breath, "We are doing what we can, but I already moved my important things into safe storage until things calm down."

Selene frowns, "I see. I suppose I'll do the same. Do you know if Joey is still around? Maybe he's got somewhere I can hole up for a bit."

"Joey?" Adam asks as he tries to think about how he know that, "Paulie's brother? Yeah, he is still around."

Selene nods, "I'll check with him, I guess. I haven't seen Pauly in months.. seems like years. But Joey used to like me. Maybe he'll trade me a room for magic things."

"I don't think anyone can 'not' like you for any stretch of time," Adam says as he reads through the book, "and I ran into Pauly recently. He came back a champ in a new division." He looks over towards her, "I thought you two were an item."

Selene shrugs, "There was a time we were… this last time he left and didn't even bother to say so .. again. I'm done."

Adam chuckles a bit and says, "Oh? Well I'm sure the male population of Denver will be pleased to hear that." Looking up from his book he looks towards Sel, "All the same, I'm sure you two have a lot to catch up on— and that isn't an exclusive list. Wasn't there one girl you were usually with— vaguely reminded me of a prostitute?"

Selene laughs, "May? yes. And Janie. Though, Janie never thought much of Pauly I don't think. You seen May around?"

"Ah yes— no I wouldn't mistake May for Janie. Janie is more refined," Adam says with a chuckle, "No I have not seen her. The ASPA has no recent reports on her either so thats a mixed bag of good news Janie is still around though, or so I hear, I havent ran into her myself but…" he waves his book a little, "I'm always doing drek like this so thats no big surprise."

Selene shrugs, "she always ran in a little different circles anyway. For a while, I think she decided I was actually dangerous." the woman laughs, "Can you believe that? crazy."

"Indeed. Bat crap crazy," Adam humors with a bit of a smile. He is in a good mood, "Sorry— I bet you get that one a lot."

Selene grins, "yeah. Lots and lots. You really think I'm crazy? I dunno…. maybe I was for a while."

Adam shakes his head, "No. For the record I do not think you are more crazy than the next person. But to me— just about everyone acts crazy. Except maybe Breeze."

Selene tilts her head, "I don't think I know Breeze. Is he or she new to Denver? Or am I just forgetting another alias?"

"Just an alias," Adam says as he goes off and lists some of her other aliases— Breeze being Annie.

Selene chuckles, "ever get tired of remembering 3 different names for everyone you know?"

Adam takes a breath, "Sister, I have a mnemonic enhancer and I still manage to forget people's street aliases. Its like trying to nail down the name of fourteen year old girl's current boyfriend. But I guess that is the point."

Selene laughs! Selene says "maybe I should get a new street name, just to confuse people a little more. Too bad Vixen is already taken."

"But you could be Vyxen, with a y, and really confuse people," Adam humors.

Selene snickers. "I suppose I could be. But she's got issues and enemies of her own that I'm sure I don't want to attract."

"Well you could go off of what your Spirit Animal wants you to be called," Adam offers— flipping a page, "I think its a bit funny though. Bat, right? Did you know in Ancient Egypt that Bat was the name of the Ancient Cow Goddess?"

Selene giggles, "I doubt Bat would like much to do with Cow. But languages are funny, I think the spirts don't have much to do with words, I think they transcend human language if they want to. Bat doesn't mind my other name: Raven. Both night birds."
