A Brief Mountain Trip
GM: Adam
Players: Adam, Critter
Synopsis: Adam and Critter go on an Astral Quest to learn a spell. It is extremely short (good rolls!)
Date: 05/29/2070

At some point last evening it is send out to the Shadowlands that a number of initiated mages are going to make an expedition to the metaplanes for study. They encourage going in groups— as the planes themselves are very dangerous to even the most experienced of mages. The meeting point is within the Warrens— not too from the Bare Knuckle, which is where Critter briefly meets Aquis. He motions that he is going for study— and has a place they can safely project.

A few minutes later they are within the Haven Building— which is a small building set on the island within the Quincy Reservoir. Making sure that everything is comfy— he nods his head and projects to meet Critter on the Threshold.

Once she gets settled in, Critter rests her head on a small white pillow. She folds her hands together on her tummy and she closes her eyes. Her breathing begins to slow as she paces the breaths in and out, finding her center. She then flows free of her body and enters the higher planes of the astral. After a few moments she arrives at the threshold, looking around carefully. Her astral form is a younger version of herself, showing she's still young at heart. Her features are a blend of hers and Raccoon's mask, the ringtail drifts along behind her.

Aquis is curiously enough very similar to his natural form. The only difference is that his 'spirit' is blue-white and seems to radiate this pale bluish light that does not illuminate anything.

The two safely reach the Threshold— which is naught but a black void without any gravity. In the distance there is a speck of light— akin to a distant star. And finally, there is a voice that greets them. "You two— who would reach to my domain— let us make your shame come plain…"

The voice continues, "One of you is filled with grief over a life you'll find as a petty thief. One of you finds no place with naught to shield your fragile pride." There is a pause. "Before you is a riddle," it continues, "Solve it to prove your worth." What, no rhyme? Before both of them is a tablet and a pen. It looks like an incomplete spell design.

Picking up the pen, Critter touches it to her tongue thoughtfully. Her skillful four jointed fingers twirl it a little before she settles down to begin scribbling out the picture that would complete the Shamanic formula.

After some scrawling in a place that is not bound by time the same way the physical world is— the designs are complete. Gently they float from both of the mage's hands and fly into the horizon. Into the speck of light they go— which grows as it supernovas. Brighter… brighter… too bright. The world is white.

When the light finally begins to fade— it is the wind that is felt first. The wind is cold and chilly. Then it is the sound of a strained bridge. A… bridge?

Adam looks down and around. Both Critter and himself have materialized on a bridge that is not meant to hold them. Focusing he stands still— attempting to levitate. No good. The magic isnt working. "Looks like we have to do this the hard way." He would say 'dont look down' but EVERYONE looks down when you do that. Looking down wouldn't help too much— the bridge stretches between a ravine so high that you can't see the ground. What makes matters worse is that the wooden boards are dryrotted and give way— as does the rope.

"I can do this, I can do this, I can do this," Critter says as she takes a deep breath. She steps lightly over the boards, moving as quick as she can trying to get across the bridge. She does look down, but only so far as the board ahead of her, moving as fast as her legs will take her.

Adam moves aside as Critter wizzes past him. He takes deep breaths and speaks in some lost, ancient language that sounds somewhat like Latin. His steps are small and calculated— until the bridge starts to fall apart. Then he hauls as and gets to the other side. "Always a good start," he says over towards Critter with a simple, muted smile, "so it looks like 'Levitation' is out of thier rulebook for these trials. Given that…" and he looks around— there is a mountain path they are on now, "its high up, I can see how that might be 'cheating'."

It takes a little bit of time. There is a lot of walking down the winding mountain path. It is very anticlimactic— but the path leads up the mountain to a temple. And the temple is the Citadel. Yeah, no crap. Sometimes the spirits just like to mess with people. "Well," Adam says as he looks at the temple, "it was one of 'those' quests…"

Keeping up with Adam is a little more easy on the Astral than it would be physically. Critter nods her head and she says, "Usually they're a -lot- more complex." She looks over her shoulder and she says, "I guess the watcher pulled some strings to get us out of here."

Adam nods over to Critter, "It seems so— and I am very grateful for that." He smiles politely and makes his way up into the temple. Study time!

Picking up a wooden and hide shield, Critter moves to follow Adam, the knowledge of her spell alreadying to begin to transfer from the item of power into her very spirit.

«Plot» Adam says, "And thats the AQ. Win. o.o"
