The hood is often transparent, at least in the face area, and fitted with an air filter. Designer versions are popular in the UCAS and other industrialized areas for the miserable, “hard rain” days. Gas Mask (with Airtank) A character wearing a gas mask and air tank is immune to inhalation vectors. Gas masks and air tanks are not concealable, and they weigh 10 kg. Hazmat Suit A character wearing a hazmat suit is safe from contact or inhalation vectors, unless the suit is breached. The gloves on hazmat suits are bulky; apply a + 1 to the target number of any action involving finger or hand use, including handling weapons. If a character suffers damage from projectiles or sharp melee weapons, his suit gets a hole in it. A Complex Action is required to apply a patch, and in the meantime the character may be exposed to outside toxins. Hazmat suits provide 1 point of both Ballistic and Impact protection. Respirator This small oxygen cylinder (20 x 10 cm) connected by a plastic hose to a full or partial face mask provides enough air for several hours of moderate exertion. Against damaging gasses, respirators reduce the Power of the attack by 2, and reduce the Damage Level by one. Pressure Regulator A pressure regulator allows the wearer to use the respirator underwater. X-E Suit A character wearing an X-E suit is safe from contact or inhalation vectors, unless the suit is breached. The gloves on X-E suits are bulky; apply a + 1 to the target number of any action involving finger or hand use, including handling weapons. If a character suffers damage from projectiles or sharp melee weapons, his suit gets a hole in it. A Complex Action is required to apply a patch, and in the meantime the character may be exposed to outside toxins. X-E suits have an Armor Rating of 3/2. Grapple Gun This gun can shoot a grappling hook more than 50 meters. It comes equipped with an internal spool. If used as a weapon, it fires at Heavy Crossbow ranges and does 5M Stun damage. The grapple line can easily hold 1,000kg. Stealth Grapple Line Unlike normal grapple line, stealth grapple line is easily dealt with after use. Touching a catalyst stick to the line creates a chemical reaction that causes it to crumble to dust within seconds. The catalyst stick is re-usable. When deployed, the character will be jerked sharply upwards and must make a Strength (8) Test to avoid dropping anything in their hands. After this, the character may use pull-lines to have some degree of mobility and directional control in the air. A quick release system, requiring a Complex Action, will allow the user to remove the pack in case of failure to deploy or on landing. A smaller back-up chute comes standard with the parachute in case of accident or failure on the part of the primary chute. Each parachute set comes with a wrist-worn altimeter that displays a digital readout of speed, height, and current distance from the ground. Low-Altitude Parachutes These parachutes are designed to break the user's downward acceleration more quickly. Used for low-altitude jumps, they have all the features of a standard parachute except they expand to a wider size and are heavier. HALO Parachutes Used for High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) drops, these parachutes are strong enough to slow down a person dropping at terminal velocity when opened at an extremely low altitude. They are also designed to provide better gliding capability, both for increased accuracy in hitting the landing zone and for safer handling. This chute comes equipped with a face mask and small air tank that allows the user to breath and see at high altitude. They otherwise have all the features and accessories of a standard parachute. The flare will illuminate an area equal to one city block, and negates the standard +2 modifier for poor or low lighting. If used as a weapon, apply SMG ranges and a +2 target number modifier. The flare does 4M damage and ignites flammable material. Nav-Dat GPS This Global Positioning System can instantly cross-reference a user’s position against all known satellites and give the user’s coordinates to within 2 meters. The device also comes with accurate internal digital maps accessible by datajack as well as numerous useful navigational functions. Survival Kit This rugged bag contains a useful assortment of stuff: flares, small utility knife, lighter, matches, compass, light-weight thermal blanket, several days’ worth of ration bars, a water-purification unit, a filter mask and any other gear the gamemaster and players think appropriate.
